Creative Cloud - Future costs

I'm in the middle of writing a proposal to get my software updated from CS5.5 to CC and just wanted to clarify a few things as I'm having to rush this through.
1) is there a known shelf life for CC yet?
My understanding is that with the continual license system, it should cover major future updates. However knowing Adobes history I'm a little worried that in the very near future there maybe something like CC2 which includes an extra major cost.
2) Is the software stable?
I'm reading a lot of things about people having to keep uninstalling. Updates and anything that requires admin rights has to be done through our IT team here as they do not give us the rights, so if there is any particular cause of this, I probably need to let them know.
Cheers.

Creative Cloud is Creative Cloud. As long as you are subscribed you get each and every version. That's the whole point. Whether or not this may entail extra costs to get access to specific new "bonus" features like more storage space on the cloud or specific services is written in the stars, but of course you can expect that prices will be corrected for inflation and other factors over time, so the second year may cost a tad more than the first year. The rest is irrelevant. All software on this planet has bugs and compatibility issues. Yes, the installers are a pain in the rear parts, but from roaming these forums every day in my experience a majority install issues come down to people generally keeping their computers in bad shape, not reading the necessary paperwork like system requirements and not having the slightest clue how computers actually work and running into all sorts of security, permissions, user privileges and network issues. Beyond that people also never stop for a minute to think. Do they actually need an update that adds a feature that they'll never use? Does updating break existing workflows? Is my system compatible? It's that sort of thing that causes mayhem. Nobody is forced to make each and every upgrade and half of the problems could be avoided if users actually used their brain instead of peeing their pants every time someone demos a half-baked new Photoshop feature... C'est la vie, chéri!

Correct, if you've got the Photography Plan or the Cloud Complete Plan.

  • Creative Cloud pricing - cost of adding additional applications

Our company has a few individual licenses to the cloud that have Photoshop, Indesign and Adobe Pro - I need to find out how much the total cost would be to add Illustrator and Dreamweaver to this as well. I was thinking this would be the 'complete' package but the pricing page does not have the list of applications this includes.  Thanks

The individual licenses can not be combined. You can go for CC team in which you can assign seats to users. The users can be changed by revoking the invite & re assigning seats.
CC for Teams are of two types.
1.Complete CC for Team (can be purchased online or by reseller)(49.99$ per month for an year)
    2. Single app CC for Team (can be purchased from reseller/sales)(19.99$ per month for an year)

  • Creative Cloud international cost comparison

Can someone at Adobe please explain how a purely downloadable product - the new creative cloud - can be 60% more expensive as a regular subscription in one country (the UK) than another (the US)?

Wanna hear funny thing? Its more than twice that is in US here in Czech Republic. Exactly 99$ per month! In US pricing, the cloud hits the midrange nonCloud version price cap in 3 years, here in 1 and half of the year => thats even before the warranty of the product expires here Thankfully we have laws here for such behaviour, so i will ask our authorities, what can customer do against such beastial prices. Before, we payed about 1/3 more than in US, even 50% more would be somehow acceptable. But this?! On such small and overfilled with graphic designers market?!

  • Why does a Creative Cloud subscription cost more in Australia?

A Creative Cloud annual subscription in the US is $29 (for qualified customers). In Australia the same deal is $37. Anyone know why?

    No-one but Adobe knows.
Everyone but Adobe thinks it's unjustifiable but that hasn't stopped them charging what they like, wherever they like since they're a monopoly.
Geographical pricing differences is one of the most discussed subjects on this forum.

  • Creative Cloud: Nothing But Daylight Robbery?

I work for an academic institution in Surrey that has been using Adobe CS3 Suite since 2009. Many of the Adobe tools are used around the school between students and staff, and it has become a required resource for many.
With the last few PCs around the school being moved to Windows 7, and our Media department's request to move to Premiere Pro and After Effects, it became clear that we would need to upgrade. We looked at the CS6 Master Suite and the possibility of beginning a volume license agreement that could help keep us up to date in the future.
Then Adobe announced that there would be no CS7 and that the Creative Cloud subscription service would be the only way to access the CS suite in the future.
Last month we received a quote for CS6 that would cover our whole school. We would own all of the Adobe CS suite applications, we could put them on all of our PCs (where relevant) and it would cost us approx. £9.5k
Hearing that CC was replacing CS7 we received a revised quote to see what the equivalent would be on the new CC system. The quote for CC was £19.5k (!?!)
I have since contacted Adobe support to question this, as it seemed implausible that Adobe would just start charging academic institutions double what they were being charged a month ago. After speaking with several people on Adobe's "support" line I have received no explanation. No clarification. I have no idea where we stand with these products now. The only thing that has been explained to me is that with CC "you get to always have the most recent version of the application". How is this a benefit worth paying double for? Under the old license scheme I could have purchased a completely new version of the CS Master Suite every year on site license, and it still would only be costing half what the Creative Cloud now costs..
One support lady even quoted me £15k per month to use CC based on our staff numbers. Have Adobe gone literally insane? The world is under a global recession and you are quoted academic institutions with 150 FTEs £15k a month to use your software?!?
From everything I have seen so far, the Creative Cloud is an enormous scam. It is a way for Adobe to halve its costs, yet charge double. There is no benefit to what is now offered for us. There is also no choice.
Unfortunately as Adobe owns thus entire sector, there are no other competitors to look at. I will have to purchase (the now end-of-life) CS6 suite. Hopefully this will last us a few years, and by that time Adobe's "visionary" management will be gone and there will actually be an academic licensing system of use.
    From Adobe’s website:
”The Adobe Education Enterprise Agreement (EEA) offers substantial savings to primary and secondary schools and higher education institutions on volume software purchases of creative and Adobe® Acrobat® software. EEA provides your institution access to feature releases and updates for the products licensed over the EEA term”
So our costs going from £9.5k to £19.5k is Adobe’s idea of “substantial savings”. Is this incompetence or just a flagrant lie? To keep this price in perspective, £19.5k is more than we pay for Windows, Office, VMWare, Veeam, Symantec Backup, SEP & Altiris combined.
Are there any other schools in the same boat? Have we been horribly mis-quoted? Have Adobe lost the plot? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ghsadmin, welcome to the forums,
You are certainly not alone, here is one such article on the topic:
Inside Higher Education -- Confusion in the Cloud
    http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/05/22/adobe-pricing-plan-raises-concerns
Here are a few quotes from the article:
College officials are concerned and confused by new licensing terms from Adobe they fear will dramatically raise costs.
"There is no question about it, there are some customers that will see a price increase," said Johann Zimmern, a director in Adobe’s education unit.
Allan Chen, the chief information officer at Menlo College, has taken a look at the licensing terms and is ready to stop using some Adobe products altogether because he thinks the university could face a roughly 700 percent increase in costs. Even though its user base is small – only about 20 people – that is an unaffordable increase, Chen said.
But one procurement official at a large university system said college officials across the country have been slogging through terms and conditions and are now appalled at Adobe’s plans, which the official estimated would cost five times more than the official’s system could afford.
So no, you are not alone concerning the education sector, as well as your counter parts in other areas such as non-profit organizations, small businesses, freelancers, corporate users, are all voicing concerns over this new "subscription only" idea, it's pricing and overall concerns, etc.
A few others whom are concerned in general:

  • Licensing and costs for Creative Cloud for teams on small company

    Hello,
I have a few questions regarding the teams solution.  They  are:
1- Is the license by user or by computer?
2- What is the actual cost of Creative Cloud for Teams ( small companies with less than 100 employees).  In some sections it states monthly cost of 69,99€ while others state 49,99€.
3- Assuming the monthly cost of 69,99€ does this cost covers all products listed ( ilustrator, photoshop, dreamweaver, premiere,...) for a single user or  is that the cost per user and per product?
4- How long do I have to keep the contract? Only 1 year?  If I want to cancel when should I communicate? or I just need to set on the console 0 users?
5 - Assuming I have only one creative user can the admin console be installed in a different machine (e.g. network admin) without the need of an extra license?
6 - If I acquire 1 license and decide to drop it 1 year and 1 month after will I pay 1 year plus that month or do I need to pay the 2 years?
    Thanks for your feedback,
    Regards,

  • Creative Cloud for Teams (Any Hidden Cost?)

    Regarding the CC Team Subscription please clarify the following;
    (1) Are there a certain number of seats allotted to the team subscription and if so how many?
    (2) For a company with 6 to 8 employees who need to use various products from the Master Suite, is their an extra cost for each employee or seat?
Please clarify as soon as possible as our company is very interested in subscribing but we need further clarity on this particular matter.
    Regards
    S. Phillips

    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/creativecloud/faq.html#ccm-teams
    (1) Are there a certain number of seats allotted to the team subscription and if so how many?
No, you pay per seat. Minimum one seat, maximum is however many you want to pay for.
"How much does Creative Cloud for teams cost?
Creative Cloud for teams is US$69.99 per user per month (with an annual commitment). Existing CS3 and later customers who have previously purchased Creative Suite software through a volume licensing program are eligible to buy at the special price of US$49.99 per user per month."
    (2) For a company with 6 to 8 employees who need to use various products from the Master Suite, is their an extra cost for each employee or seat?
Same cost per user per month regardless of whether they use 1 app, some apps or all apps.
You pay $69.99 for each seat per month. You can add, delete or reassign seats from the Admin console as required.
    6 seats x $69.99 per month = $419.94 per month
    8 seats x $69.99 per month = $559.92 per month

  • Why does Creative cloud cost 33% more in the UK than in USA?

Creative cloud cost $49.99 per month in the US - which is the equivalent of £31
In the UK Creative cloud cost £46.88 which is the equivalent of $73
Sorry why are we charged so much more?
    It's the same service?
    Why?
Looks like a rip off to me.

Why does the starting price of a MacBook Air differ between the US and the UK. In the US, the price starts at $999, while in the UK it starts at £849 (or $1329.11) That is a 30%+ price difference.
This is standard for most products and services that originate in the US. First, you have the added UK VAT which is not applicable in the US. Secondly, companies build in a larger margin for their products and services when currency exchange rates need to be factored in. Finally, they also add additional margins to cover the US corporate tax for repatriated income from sales overseas, a tax which is the highest in the industrialised world at over 45% on the net profit.
So, all these factors make the price in the UK EQUAL to the price in the US in accounting and administrative terms.
Three things need to change to balance the equation from an end user perspective.
    1. VAT must be eliminated. (This is an EU and UK HMR change...thus highly unlikely).
    2. You will need to be able to choose the currency. (This is something that Adobe can configure to allow the end user to elect what currency they wish to use to make the payment. If you have a UK credit card and elect to pay in US dollars, you will carry the burden of the exchange rate, not Adobe. Having said that, it all depends on how the cost centres of Adobe are set up for accepting multiple currency payments on a per-country basis. I am assuming they do not accept multiple currencies in different jurisdictions and as such, this would require a complete reorganisation of their accounting practices, which may impact their tax obligations, but certainly will impact their financial operations in general, so I believe this will be highly unlikely to change).
    3. The US corporate tax code needs to be simplified and modernised so as it is not a penalty on corporations for earning money abroad. With the current state of stagnation and a Democrat in the White house and a Democrat majority in the Senate, a snowflake in hell has a better chance than any movement on tax reform. The Democrat principles state that corporations are bad, evil and must be subjugated to draconian controls and taxes.

  • Hi I hold a full creative cloud membership, Are there any extra costs for DPS enterprise edition? Thanks!

I'm wanting to produce a monthly magazine using the DPS, and was wondering if there are any extra costs or if everything is included with creative cloud full membership.
Ive seen that single editions for ipad are free, but i need to build for multiple platforms and think enterprise edition would be best.
    Can anyone advise.
    Thanks

    Thanks Bob
Ive found the costs, more than i expected...I noticed that you only get 250 free downloads a month, then you have to pay for any extra. Our downloads would be 155,000+ a month, Any idea how much this is? or can you direct me to where i can find out. Our downloads would be 155,000 a month.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

  • Why does photoshop cc cost more than creative cloud photography plan?

I see that Photoshop cc costs $10 per month more than the photography plan, even though the plan includes photoshop cc.  Are the applications different in the two plans?

    Hi Howard,
The main difference in price between them is because Photoshop CC plan comes with 20GB of online storage space and inclusion Behance ProSite.
For other difference between Photoshop CC and Photography plan you can follow the article: Photoshop Help | Differences between Photoshop and Creative Cloud Photography Programs where the difference is clearly mentioned.
Let us know for any more confusion around this.

  • Will story's cost be looped into the Creative Cloud?

    Hi,
I like Story - and see the release is set for a month away or so.  Is it going to be looped into the pricing for the Adobe Creative Cloud?  The Creative CLoud thing is pricey - starting at $50 a month... Whoa geez!   I only use Premiere and Story - and don't need the cloud services for the other gagillion products?
Can story be separate from the Creative Cloud thing, there is no way I can afford 50 a/mo.

There will be a separate price for Story. You do not have to buy the creative cloud just to access Story. That said, it might be cheaper to subscribe to the CCM if you use multiple adobe products.
