Creative Cloud --showwindow arguement causing crash

I'm a developer for a game company that supports older managed DirectX games. Our customers have been complaining of our games crashing on their computers recently. After some research, it appears to be an issue with the Adobe Creative Cloud. If the Creative Cloud is running in the background after system boot, our games will crash with a DirectX device lost exception. Closing the Creative Cloud will then allow our programs to function normally. After some additional testing, it appears the issue is tied directly to the -showwindow=false command line argument that is attached to the Creative Cloud startup by default. Running the Creative Cloud from its icon in Windows and then minimizing it does not cause the crash. Only when the showwindow command line is attached does it ever cause a problem. For now, we're just telling customers to close and re-open the Creative Cloud to solve the problem, but I wanted to let your development team know about this in case anyone else is having this issue. I realize there aren't many companies still supporting managed DirectX, but we are obligated to continue support on these products for a while. If there's any way you could pass along some documentation on what the showwindow arguement does under the hood, maybe we could try to develop a work-around for this issue? Thanks.

Just for fun, try a reboot. It's possible you deleted the wrong .idlk file, too, I suppose. The one causing ID to think the file is open would be in the same folder as the file.
What's odd is the OS also seems to think the file is in use, or you could copy it.

  • Why does Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app keep crashing?

After loggin in to my account via the adobe Creative cloud desktop app the timer spins for a few seconds and then crashes without generating a report. I am on Mac OS10.7.5. I have done an uninstall of Creative cloud and reinstall of latest version. No joy. I have done a complete clean of Cloud using the app from the Adobe web site. After reinstall of Cloud problem still exists. I have renamed the OOEB file in Application Support so a new one is generated. Same problem. My loggin details work when I go into my account online. When I try to install apps from there it opens the desktop app and crashes. Any ideas?

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App installer crash (Mac OSX)

I wanted to update my existing CC Desktop App, but that didn't work out, so I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall. But that brought me into a whole other world of pain and tears.
Basically, when I finally worked out where I could download the .dmg (hint: if you try to download the desktop app installer through chrome on mac, you'll get the .exe), and I ran the installer, and just says this: "Downloading Creative Cloud Desktop App" and then promptly crashes, leaving no trails behind. I cleaned my mac from old logs and whatnot, did not work. I ran Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, that just deleted all my existing CC programs so I can't even work with those anymore, but the cleaner provided nothing to let the Desktop app installer actually work.
I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro "13, Mac OSX 10.9.5, 2.5 GHz i5, 8GB RAM. I've had virtually no problems with Creative Cloud, except After Effects 2014, which could never complete an update.
I suspect I need some kind of "offline" installer for the Desktop app.

SkyOtic if you are being offered an exe by Chrome then I would recommend reviewing your web browser settings and add-ons.  It appears that Chrome is currently identifying your computer as utilizing a Windows operating system.
Please download and install the Creative Cloud Desktop application from Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud for desktop.  I would strongly you recommend the use of a different web browser unless you have corrected the behavior occurring within Chrome.
If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend reviewing Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html.

  • My Creative Cloud Desktop app keeps crashing.

It starts up, but then crashes out after a few seconds. I've tried re-installing. I've used Cleaner Tool. Nothing seems to work.
I'm running CC on MacOS Mavericks although from what I can see in the forums, windows users have similar issues.
Does anyone know of a fix?

Have you tried the steps in :
CC Applications crash immediately after launch
Crash at launch | Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9)
    Can't launch | Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
Prior to performing these steps, it always good to check the internet firewalls & security, administrative right of the user.

  • Re-Installing Creative Cloud after hard drive crash

I recently had a hard drive crash and had to install a new hard drive.  My old data was backed up on a slave disk but I can't get it to run again.  I can't even uninstall the previous suite because the Control Panel - Add / Remove program window will not show the slave disk  with the applications.  If I install it again I don't want to use up the "second" download that comes with the purchase of the license.  Where do I go from here?

    Hi allegrophoto,
If you did not deactivate your software before the crash, you can contact Adobe customer support (http://helpx.adobe.com/contact/) to enable your activation count. You can then install it again. I am not sure what you mean by "second download".
    Thanks,

  • Creative Cloud Reinstall - SpeedGrade CS6 crashes

Just recently my SpeedGrade CS6 crashes on launch on my iMac (this is a recent development). How do I go about reinstalling it?

There should be an uninstaller listed in:
Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers
After uninstalling it there you should be able to reinstall it through the Adobe Application Manager.
    Hope that helps,
    -Dave

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App crashes on new Mac Pro 2013

After using Migration Assistant to move apps from my 2010 MBP to a new Mac Pro 6,1 (OSX 10.9.1), I find that the Creative Cloud Desktop App consistently crashes right after entering my ID and password (whether started as a menu bar item or separate window).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result.  Below is a partial crashdump (I have the complete listing available):

Thanks for this.  In the Cleaner App, I only saw Application Manager for OS 10.6 (other than my installed CC apps).  I cleaned this one only.  However after restarting, athough the cleaner said the uninstall was successful, I could not find any log file for the Cleaner App.  I still reinstalled the CC Desktop App, but with the same results.
Do I need to uninstall ALL the CC apps?
    Thanks again.

I am trying to INSTALL the free trials of AI and PS when I click on the link to install it goes to another page says installing but nothing is happening. I have the FREE TRIAL Creative Cloud Membership.
I am getting very frustrated with this. When I try to install the Creative Cloud thing it asks me to pay even though it says try for free.

    Hi Mirrormonolith,
Please try the following steps assuming its a MAC:
    1) Open Activity monitor and Force quit Adobe CEF Helper, Creative cloud, Adobe IPC Broker & Crash Deamon if available.
    2) Try to open, if doesn't work then go to Applications>> Adobe Creative cloud>> Right click>> Get Info>> Click on the Add sign>> Select the user you are logged in>> Give Read and write access.
    3) If that doesn't work then enable the root user and launch to update there, check this link on how to enable/sign in to root user Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
Please let me know of that worked.

  • Creative Cloud desktop installation fails (OS X)

    Hi,
    I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 French.
I subscribed to Creative Clouds for photographers and downloaded the CreativeCloudInstaller.dmg.
When I run the installer, it downloads things for a little while and as soon as I see the "Installing Creative Cloud" message the application crashes (it closes and nothing happen).
The progress bar stops at around 50% of the process.
    I tried many things :
    - reboot
    - disable antivirus (Avast)
    - close every running application
    - repair OSX permissions
    - clean the Mac (running OnyX)
    - run the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool
    - add Admin and user read/write permissions to both Library folders
Nothing works and the installer still crashes at the same point.
I've looked at the -/Library/Logs/AdobeDownload/LBS.log file and I see some file access errors:

According to the log it seems it can't open the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Desktop Common/Core/AdobePIM.dylib file.
Thing is, after the installer crashes there is no "Core" folder into my /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Desktop Common/ path, only the file "pim.db" there (see attached capture below).

Ok I made it. I had to delete some Adobe folders inside the Applications/Utilities folder and it worked.
    Resolved.

  • I can't install the Creative Cloud Setup exe

    Hi
I can't install the Creative Cloud Setup exe - it crashes my windows 8.1 machine. What to do?

  • Creative Cloud stops after 10 sec

    Hi,
I like to update Lightroom and Photoshop, so I start Creative Cloud and after ± 10 seconds Creative Cloud stops without any message whatsoever.
So I tried to uninstall Creative Cloud, but the uninstaller progress bar is standing still even after 30 minutes. The process manager showed the uninstaller was hanging
So I repaired the filesystem permissions, an still the uninstaller was hanging
So I ran the CC Cleaner Tool only for Creative Cloud removal
After that I reinstalled a fresh Application Manager, which downloaded and installed the new Creative Cloud
But the problem is still not solved and Creative Cloud still shuts down (crashes) after ± 10 seconds.
Please what can I do? during my trial perod I had no problem whatsoever, but sinds I start paying this is happening.
    Specs:
    Creative Cloud subsription
    MAC OSX 10.9.4

The install of prem. Pro,,,it did install but no desktop icon and none of the icons in cloud work..I was able to go into C drive then into the prem.pro folder, found the icon for the application and that opened the program..It ran ok..I have found no way to reinstall anything from cloud without first removing said program.Thats what I am doing now, uninstalling prem.pro and cloud in hopes of a clean install will fix the issues. Not going to hold my breath tho as I really don't think they have fixed the bug yet.
On the plus side LightRoom did install with a working icon.
PS cc 2014 did not put out a startup icon but as with prem.pro was able to open by going into the file folder.
    I am running Win8 64 bit with a 6 core cpu
Modern Tech.....Isn't great when it works...But when it doesn't...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr      LOL
Will post the results of reinstall.
Note....CLOUD STILL claims Pre Pro is there..Guess will have to remove cloud also and reload it before I can get anywhere.  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Why is Adobe Creative Cloud causing Cocktail.app to crash?

Chasing error messages, I found that while ACC was active, the Scheduler in Cocktail 7.1 fails. When I quit ACC, it works. When I restart ACC, Scheduler fails. It's first log message when failing is: "Could not get path to main bundle."
This collision has been occuring since I updated my OS to Mavericks, 10.9.1. That required an update to the Mavericks' version of Cocktail. By way of background, I'm on an "Early 2008" Mac Pro with 2 x 3 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon processor, 8 GB RAM and oodles of storage, four internal drives with over 3 GB total internal storage.
I have reported this behavior to Tech Support at Maintain which makes Cocktail. I will also report to Apple.
However, since going to Mavericks, I have also been intermittently encountering issues with ACC's interaction with Retrospect, an industrial-strength back up utility I've used for years. Because ACC is writing to a log virtually continuously (i.e. nearly every minute), Retrospect finds mismatches in the ACC.log when it validates its backup. This has been happening in about 80% of the nightly backups since Mavericks was installed in mid-December.
I will begin manually disabling ACC whenever I'm not using one of the Creative Cloud applications. As I consider myself a heavy user of LR 5 CC, PS CC, and Bridge CC, this is an extra chore I believe I should not be required to perform. ACC should run when it is needed and only then. It should not be causing mischief at other times.
ACC is the new kid on the block. I've been using scripts in both Cocktail and Retrospect for over five years with solid success.
I would have reported this as a bug if I could locate a place accepting such a report.

Are you getting any error message?
Are you using Windows computer or Mac?

  • Creative Cloud Desktop install crashes Windows Explorer and hangs

This all started with my inability to activate Adobe Acrobat on my computer after wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS.
I had no trouble initially downloading or installing anything from the Adobe Creative Cloud. I ran several apps and they worked (albeit in trial mode for a day or two)
And then the Initial Problem: Trying to Activate Adobe Acrobat failed to get pass the sign-in screen.
It would hang for about 30 minutes and then come back to the error that the computer's clock must be incorrect or an error with the Internet connection. (It's a standard error documented on Adobe's site that says you need to make sure your computer can really get to all of Adobe's activation servers/sites/etc. I double-checked everything in the troubleshooting list to be sure but found nothing wrong with the computer or the ability to get to Adobe's sites.
Exasperated. I went online for tech support. It was definately Level 1 support (had me checking all the stuff I had already spent an hour checking - and had already told him I tested it all).
Anyway, I spent an hour on the chat with Adobe Tech Support going through the usual stuff.
He had me check virus programs, computer clock, conenctions to Adobe sites (like the licensing servers). But nothing ever helped or worked. Then he told me to try going directly to the Adobe Creative Cloud site and trying to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop manager. I did that but it hangs when it launches the manager on the initial window with a black/grey Creative Cloud bar at the top (with the tool drop-down on the right side) but the rest of the window never loads.
After an hour of going in circles I decided it would be better to try again later with someone in second-level support.
In the meantime, I uninstalled ALL Adobe applications. There is no Flash-Player, no Acrobat Reader - nothing from Adobe in my programs list.
I then tried to download and install the Adobe Application Manager. It works up to the point where it launches the Creative Cloud Desktop tools and then hangs at the same place.
There is a Creative Cloud window with the normal black/grey bar at the top - but the rest of the window (where you would normally see and load the apps from) stays empty.
I have rebooted the computer several times to be sure it is a fresh start. That has not helped at all. One additional thing I have noticed in these multiple attempts is that when the Creative Cloud Desktop Manager installer gets about 95% done, it causes Windows Explorer to crash (not Internet Explorer but Windows Explorer). Once Windows Explorer resets, Creative Cloud continues the installation but then opens the window (above) that has nothing but the black/grey header.
I'm struggling for what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I am paying $50 a month for something I can't even install or use.
For what it's worth, the system is an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. 8GB of RAM and plenty of HDD space. All security updates applied and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1. I doubt that any of that last line is relevant since I could run all of this with no problem before wiping the hard drive AND it was all running with no problem - other than Activating Acrobat at the start of this whole issue.

    Jim,
You are a lifesaver! I can't think of how many additional hours of frustration you just saved me - but Thank You!!
After posting, I had determined (like you said), that Explorer must be doing that for a reason. I created a new user profile on the system (added a user temporarily) and observed the same behavior of Windows Explorer (stopping/starting) but then continuing to work as it should. At that point I knew the answer was somewhere in the user's profile but I would have had no idea where to look. The opm.db file was indeed the culprit.
I sure do appreciate the excellent help.
    Jay
