Creative inspire t6300 5.1 surround on mac pro 1.1, optical out to 5.1 audio gear (digital sound decoder).

Hi there,
Been searching and trying a lot but no luck so far. I have a surroundset Creative Inspire t6300
to be able to add some more fun to movies and a few games on my mac.
I own an upgraded Mac Pro 1.1 under Snow leopard, 2.33 gHz, dual processor, 8 core, 8 gb memory.
Even though it`s a piece for the museum, it works very well for designwork I do for work. No real need
to update for me, so....
As I understand, the optical out is standard 5.1. (By the way, the only other ports are the basic sound ports out
and in on the Mac). So after some research I found and got the 5.1 audio gear decoder. I connected this with
an opticle cable and used the 3,5 jackets from the surroundset  to connect to (from left to right) cen/sw, (yellow
jacket) fl/fr (green jacket), sl/sr (black jacket) on the decoder. All perfectly understandable and it seemed to work well.
But when I tested with some of the testfile you find when googling on that, I think there is something wrong,
the typical surround effect is not there, it rather sounds more like stereo or even 5 mono`s.
I`ve tried Soundflower and JackPilot, but couldn`t get it right. With Soundflower I was able to choose 5.1 setting
(was not possible before) but testing it didn`t work.
There is an extensive test of the decoder on the net by someone who really is deep into the technics of it all but
no luck there either.
Back to basics: is it right that the optical out is truely 5.1 on the mac? With several tests the unit SFE does not react.
But when I play some music with iTunes, it works (loud and clearly :-)).  Maybe I need a visit to the audiologist ;-) ?
Anyone?

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?
Carl

Okay, I did my best searching and I couldn't find anything that matched all your descriptors. I did do a search on both decoder numbers. SB0256 returned very little results, but with SB0466, I was able to find this ebay listing:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6_fvi%3D&_rdc=
This card isn't a Champion like you suggested. And with my complete lack of knowledge, I don't know what I/O dri've bay means. But since it is PCI and the decoder matches the number you gave me, this card should be adequete, right?
Whether it works or not, my search indicated it might be very hard for me to find that card (or any PCI card for that matter). Everything I saw was out of stock. I know this is a forum for Creative, but are there any other manufacturers that will allow me to accomplish my goal, either with current cards, or discontinued cards? Thanks again
Oh, and I will vote on that thread. I probably won't wait for them to release the decoder since I need it now, but I still believe Creative should be giving the customer what they want

  • Creative Inspire 4.1 4400 - surround sound

Creative Inspire 4.1 4400, Can I enjoy surround sound? If yes, please tell me the way to test the surround sound from the speakers. Is there any tool or softwares to test the surround sound from the speakers?
Note: I don't have any sound card in my computer.
    Thanks

Does this problem only occur in certain programs? Because I have a similar problem with my sound suddenly dropping without warning. But it only happens when I'm playing music in Windows Media Player. If it does have something to do with the media player then I suspect it could be the "WOW effects plugin." I hope this helps, or at least narrows down your problem.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App crashes on new Mac Pro 2013

After using Migration Assistant to move apps from my 2010 MBP to a new Mac Pro 6,1 (OSX 10.9.1), I find that the Creative Cloud Desktop App consistently crashes right after entering my ID and password (whether started as a menu bar item or separate window).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result.  Below is a partial crashdump (I have the complete listing available):

Thanks for this.  In the Cleaner App, I only saw Application Manager for OS 10.6 (other than my installed CC apps).  I cleaned this one only.  However after restarting, athough the cleaner said the uninstall was successful, I could not find any log file for the Cleaner App.  I still reinstalled the CC Desktop App, but with the same results.
Do I need to uninstall ALL the CC apps?
    Thanks again.

  • How do I move my Creative Suite from my iMac to my Mac Pro laptop?

I bought a Mac Pro laptop because I need to work away from my iMac. How can I get my Creative Suite on my laptop without having to buy a new Creative Suite?@

you're allowed two concurrent installations/activations.  if your laptop install will be your 2nd, just download the cc app to your laptop and start installing your apps, https://creative.adobe.com/

  • Mac Pro 2.66 Line Out not functioning.

One of our Mac Pros on display here has a set of Altec Lansing speakers attached to it, but the line out on the back of the Mac no longer works (it did at one time). I've double-checked the settings and there is no audio coming out of the ports. However, I switch the cable to the headphone jack on the front, and boom, instant sound. Dunno why.

    This should fix your problem.
1.1. Trash file com.apple.BezelServices.plist in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    1.2. Empty the Trash.
1.3. Either Log out then log in, or restrt your Mac.
1.4. Check the volume keys' functions a few times in the hours after performing the steps above.
    2. More than likely, an errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. Perhaps some third-party utility you may have
    installed to control iTunes?
My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    3. If none of the above sorts it out, after the problem occurs, immediately check these Console logs for additional clues.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Pro RAID block size recommendations for working with audio in Logic Pro

I have recently ordered a Mac Pro and plan to do a RAID configuration across 3 HDD's
The RAID type i am going to do is a RAID 0 striped.
The computer is going to be used primarily for audio post production and working with 20+ 24-Bit audio files at any one time within a Logic project.
I want to know what is the best block size i should use when configuring the RAID.
I understand that using a higher block size is best for working with large files but do i need to do this in my case or will the default 32k block size be enough?
    Thanks in advance

Use 64k. Things like databases like having 32k blocks because of all the small files. Audio files are pretty small even at 24-bit 192KHz. Go to 128k if all you are doing is streaming and no samples. But 20+ 24-bit is really not too large anyway considering most modern HDD's can stream 100MB/s off one spindle. You'll probably be fine regardless of the block size you choose. But most audio pro's choose 64k.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 Optical Drives not recognized.

My Mac Pro (2008 2 x 2.8 Quad Core) 3.1 running OS X 10.10.1 has always had 2 optical drives. The first an Apple Superdrive as shipped and a second optical dvd/cd drive. Both have worked for years, although in recent tears, the 2nd drive experienced problems where it would not open. Finally it died all together and I removed it. I have added a replacement IDE optical drive and now neither optical drive works or is even recognised by the OS X. My system info shows "No Drives", yet both are installed and connected. I have rebooted many times, I have reinstalled OS X Yosemite, yet both drives are still missing as far as the computer is concerned.
Does anyone know how I may diagnose this problem further, or better still, how can I fix this issue.
    Regards
    Nermie

After checking connections, I would try a NVRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If it still doesn't show, I'd pull it and connect it to a different machine.
If it does't show there, I'd call it dead.
Oh, and as for the jumper, I wouldn't change it without changing the second drive as well.

  • Mac pro cinema display cuts out and can't access Mac with screen sharing

    Hi
A weird thing has started happening to my Mac Pro today. After using it for a few minutes the cinema display it is attached to on the Mac Pro just goes black. The Mac Pro is clearly still on - the light is on and i can hear the fans. The Mac Pro shows up on my local network and i can connect to it and access files from my Macbook, but screen sharing doesn't work (i just get the message 'contacting mac pro' and nothing else) and i can't connect to shared iTunes library either, which makes me think it is not just a display issue. I cannot wake the computer with the mouse or keyboard, which makes me think it isn't just a sleep issue. All i can do is physically turn the Mac Pro off, start it up and it will start up successfully and then work for a few more minutes before i get the same problem. I have reset the PRAM and SMC and still have the same problems. Can anyone suggest anything else i can try?
I should mention that i have another problem with the Mac Pro in that it has been spontaneously waking up from sleep and starting up from shutdown, and i still haven't resolved this. I don't know if it is connected to the above issue.
    thanks
    nick

I have experienced almost the exact same thing with my new 2008 Mac Pro and my 30" Apple display. It has happened to me twice in the last few weeks. The first time I chalked it up to a fluke, but now that it's happened again I searched the forums. In both cases I've had music playing in iTunes which continues playing, goes on to the next track, and so on. So the machine has not crashed in full. I too can connect to the files via another computer on the network, but cannot share the screen.
I have not had the sleep issues you have had.
I'll look at the link you provided in your next post to see where that gets me, but I wanted to let you know you were not alone on this one.

  • Does the new Mac Pro Server have lights out management?

I would like to know if the Mac Pro Server has the LOM. Such as the ability to turn off, on, and reboot by simply using the server admin tools. I use this feture very often with my current xserve and would rather buy a new server then try and find a used 2009 xserve.

    No.

  • Will my mac pro support 10 Optical drives?

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro that currently has two Optical drives installed. I believe its the Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5620 “Westmere” processors. I installed a Samaung 840 Evo for the operating system and I have a 6 TB raid installed with 16gb of ram. I am going to be using it to burn dvds on location for my events. I have a high volume of customers and I really like to get orders out before the weekend is over.
My question is can I daisy chain 10 optical drives to my mac pro? How do I gauge how much it can handle?
And if you can give me a comparrison between that and the new mac pro that would be great. I know that the new model is going to be a lot faster and if my 2010 model can't support 10 drives but the new one can then it will be time to make a change!
    Thanks for your time

So there are duplicators that have multiple targets? I have a 10 set duplicator already so when I have clients purchase as groups I can duplicate but most of our orders are specific to just one customer. So I have the duplication.
My previous setup was 4-5 macbook pros all networked to a shared drive and I burned that way but our system is changing and we are putting the Mac Pro into play and so it would be easier just to have a set of drives all stacked in my road case instead of pulling the macbooks from other stations and then having to pack them up and etc. So if each drive could burn a differenct disc that would be great.
I use toast and I read somewhere that you can just duplicate it and then from there I would label all of the drives to match the toast duplicate it was running from.

  • Bootcamp to Mac Pro Sata in Optical Bay

I received my Mac Pro the other day. After reading some of the discussions regarding different setups, I began setting up my Mac Pro as follows:
I took the 250gb Seagate that came in the Mac Pro out of Bay 1 and installed it under the optical drive. I connected a SATA cable to the mother board and powered the drive using a 4 to 15 pin sata power converter cable. My plan was to use 195gb for MAC OSX and my Mac Applications and to have XP and Doze applications running on the other 55gb.
I loaded the latest updates in preparation for my Bootcamp install. The partition through Bootcamp installer seemed to work fine - then the Bootcamp installer asked me to put XP in the DVD/CD ROM drive and it loaded files. Then the XP installer reported that it couldn't find a hard drive.
It seems like the Bootcamp installer and XP is not able to see the partition created by Bootcamp on my SATA drive located under the optical bay and connected via SATA cable to the MB - even though the Bootcamp installer created the partition in the first place.
At this point, I went ahead and plugged in one of my Bay drives into Bay1. XP was able to see this drive and so I am going to install Bootcamp XP onto that drive. I would really prefer to get Bootcamp XP going on the 250gb under the optical bay.
I had planned on installing 4x500 gb drives in Bays 1-4 and running a couple of RAID-0 pairs. Now XP is hogging one of those drives.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Mike

So I installed bootcamp XP-Pro on it's own Bay1 drive. It's all working beautifully and the setup is as follows:
    Mac Pro
    2x3ghz
    XT1900 w 2xDell 24"W
5 gb RAM (4 of it from Other World Computing)
250gb System Drive OSX (under optical bay)
    Bay1 (500gb WD re2) Bootcamp XP-Pro
Bays 2-4 (3x500 gb WD re2 in Raid 0 configuration)
2x 2port Addonics eSATA to Addonics 4 bay eSATA tower with 4x500gb Hitachi
So far - so good. The ability to run XP greatly increases the value of my Mac investment because I can run some of the programs only available on XP.
The Apple discussion boards have been very helpful.

  • Mac pro 5,1 optical drive connection

Hi, it's me, John B again (sigh)
I am getting my new Mac Pro 5,1 ready for use and it's almost there....
I would liike to swap optical drives. I already bought a blu-ray drive fitted with a sata to ATAPI board for my older 2008 Mac pro, and it works fine. I am led to understand that the optical drive in the newer mac pro is SATA. I'm concerned that the Optical drive cable harness is a bit on the short side. It works, sure, but there isn't much slack at all. My fingers aren't that delicate and graceful , so is there such a thing as an optical drive connector extender cable? and I'd be needing two of them. Basically what I"m trying to ask is what kind of connector is it? I'm guessing SATA but I don't know for sure.  So, I presume if I wanted to swap drives, I'd take the board off of the blu ray drive and fit it in my newer Mac Pro, and the stock superdrive would have the board fitted to it and go in my 2008 Mac pro and everything would be peachy ( I hope-fingers crossed)
    thanks
    John B

what kind of connector is it?
A single SATA power + data cable with a large, stiff connector on a cable oriented perfectly and exactly the right length. The cable for each drive seems to "hover" over the connector end of the drives until pressed into place on the drive. To install, slide the drive sub-enclosure halfway into place, press the cable(s) onto the end of the drive(s), then slide the drive sub-enclosure the rest of the way into its space.
[extension cable?] I'd be needing two of them.
An extension cable is not needed and would not be helpful. Also, there is no room in the 2009 and later model for a paddle-board of any description.

  • MAC Mini and SPDIF Optical Out

I am new to the MAC after 30 years on a PC, so there is a bit on humility involved here! LOL!
I am trying to configure the the sound for SPDIF audio optical out. I see no settings in the Sound Preferences? I only have speakers and HDMI.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are two places you need to visit:
    1. System Preferences > Sound
Pick "Built-in Audio" for audio out. This corresponds to the optical toslink output. It is the same option as "internal speakers" if your toslink is not plugged in.
    2. Open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.app and in it configure the build-in audio for the bit depth and sampling frequencies you require. If you are listending to CDs and iTunes music, 16-bit, 44.1 kHz is what you need. If you have higher-resolution music, adjust accordingly.
You can circumvent step 1 by hoding down the option key while clicking the little speaker sound icon in the menu bar (assuming you have it in the menu bar).
