Creative Labs Digital MP3 Playe

Hi, guys am planning to buy this MP3 player the main reason is its extended MMC. Is there an upgrade that could make this piece of equipment read as far as GB capacity of MMC?
Thanks...

Erm... It really depends on the sizes. Creative HDD variants come in 4,5,6, 20 GB etc. Flash-based mp3 on the other hand comes in 64mb (the old ones),28mb, 256mb,52mb,GB most of which are fixed memory. Prior to that, are you intending to bring your mp3 player for vigorous activities like working out in the gym or jogging? If so, it would be better if you get the flash version instead.
However, in comparing the size difference, a larger capacity i.e. 20GB is more worth than a 4 or 5GB player which costs ard S$329. The 20GB one would cost S$399. (This is the price in singapore during a sale a month ago.) So, as you can see, it would be more worthwhile getting the 20GB one, which may be bigger in size and is slightly heavier than the 4GB or 5GB ones. What's more? You can use the 20GB one to back up or transfer your files from one computer to another. The 4GB ones also can, just that the space is much smaller.
ultimately, the choice is yours.

I am using WMP, latest firmware .2.03.
I have downloaded audio books from Netlibrary (protected wav files).
I can open the files in WMP and real player but once I tried to copy the files (sync) to Zen player using WMP and realplayer or just right click copy to Zen, I get an unsupported file type. Same when using the Creative Suite.
I tried looking for others who may have the problem but it seems like noone has the same problem.
    MP3 Audio books sync/copied OK.
Any more ideas? (I have a Cowon D2 - synced OK - but it isn't mine)
Please help...or I might just have to return this.
I don't think I have ever seen a DRM WAV file on NetLibrary. I have only seen WMA or MP3 files. Contact them & ask if the file is supposed to be WAV or WMA. Also check that the clock on your player has the correct time & date.

  • Possible new Creative Zen 40GB MP3 play

Hi there, does anybody know if there would be a new Creative Zen 40GB MP3 player due out soon? Here in Malaysia, the new Creative Zen 20GB MP3 player has replaced the Zen Touch 20GB player, and only the Zen Touch 40GB player is still available. Been wondering if I should wait for a new Creative Zen 40GB player instead of getting the Zen Touch 40GB player now. The Creative Zen has better specs then the Zen Touch except for the battery life which is only rated for hours. A big let down from the previous 24 hours battery life of the Zen Touch. Now, it would be just perfect if the new possible Zen 40GB player had the improved specs together with the 24 hours battery.

Most probably, you know how Creative is making a Zen Photo or something, does that reminds you of the iPod Photo You'll just have to wait though, currently I'm just happy with my 5 Gig, it has more than enough space

  • Date of "Battery Birth" of Creative Zen Flash MP3 playe

Date of Battery Birth of Creative Zen Flash MP3 players.
Your Zen Lithium_Ion Polymer Battery lifespan is ~ 2-3 years OR the number of discharges/charges cycles -
approximately ~ 300-500 cycles max. Whichever comes first will degrade the charging capacity of the
Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery. Keep in mind, the Lithium-Ion life span begins "aging" from the time of
    manufacturing of the battery!
Translation: If you bought a Creative Zen from Walmart,Target, Circuit City or Radio Shack, your battery
lifespan begins when the battery was manufactured by SK Mobile Energy (You don't know the manufacturing
date). If it was on the Walmart shelf for 2 years (You don't know this) Then, by the time you bought the Zen MP3
player your battery "shelf life" and battery charging capacity is gone!?
It would be very "consumer friendly" if Creative would show on the LCD display under the system/information
screen the EXACT birth/manufacture date of the Lithium-Ion battery and the number of discharges/charges
(300-500 max?) the battery has been through. After all, Creative manufactures the Zen and solders
in the "non-user replaceable battery" and they know the exact date of when the battery was manufactured. By
doing this, this would prevent "shady vendors" or third parties from "pulling the wool" over unsuspecting
consumers eyes. A firmware change would be in order.
Also, they should put a 0-00% battery capacity in numerical numbers near the battery symbol.
Keep in mind, the battery discharge rate and battery symbol is non-linear.
If Creative doesn't want to do this firmware change maybe they should do the following:
Have just only a Lithium-Ion Polymer battery warranty (not just the player warranty)? to protect the end users from too long shelf life of a battery.
    Ref. Links
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery
    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_th...ithium_battery
A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of
manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of
charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike
other batteries. This drawback is not widely published.[3]
    DRM? DVD Copy? Music Copying.

I don't know the internal workings of the Zen Lithium-ion charging circuit but you should be able to use your
Zen player just like a laptop plugged into the wall.
Once the charging circuit sees a certain charge voltage on the battery it should shut down or go to a float mode.
    (added this)?
Allow the battery to completely discharge from time-to-time then recharge it fully.
    From the link:
    http://www.omnica.com/omniview_electronics2.htm
Regarding lithium-ion shelf life, one of our engineers recently met with a battery-house representati've. It has come to their attention that repeated charging and re-charging of a less than fully discharged Li-ion cell affects the battery "gas gauge" included with many devices. Over a number of cycles there is a resultant loss in accuracy. Frequently, the indicated remaining charge has little relationship to the actual amount of life left in the cell! Fortunately, according to the battery expert, the gauge will reset itself if the battery is allowed to completely discharge from time-to-time.

  • Need Help With My 40G Creative Zen Touch Mp3 Play

Got this beautiful mp3 player for a steal at only $95 dlvd!
Works great, only problem is I just installed the software and when I run the Organizer thing, it doesnt detect any mp3s. So when I go into my folders containing mp3's they dont show up. I tried to associate formats using the File Options in the settings menu but there are no file types listed to associate! Im confused at what to do.
Also when the program software was installing I kept getting error messages relating to the registration of certain parts of the program, it still installed complete but gave me a error message to report to Creative. Everything works fine so far though?
Can anyone help me out here or recognize the problem?

    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.
    - (Depending on your product and firmware)
For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    or:
For PlaysForSure Zen Touch: Download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players.
    - If it is listed for your product: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.
Hi thanks for the help, Im not sure if my ins the Plays for sure model or not? Its the Creative Zen Touch 40 GB. I bought it without a manual so im not positi've how to check the details. It came with a software installation CD, that is what I used for the software. So does this mean I just need to download the plugins you listed? Is that what is affecting the Organizer in the fact that it doesnt display mp3s?

  • Transfering Audible files to Creative Labs Muvo

How do I use iTunes (or my iMac in general) to transfer Audible files to my device. I have a Creative Labs Muvo MP3 player that plays Audible. Using Windows the Audible files transfer and play fine but I cannot get iTunes to recognize the device -- the iMac only mounts it as a mass storage device. When I manually copy the Audible file from the iMac to the Muvo, it transfers it as an .aa file and apparently the device needs it converted to a .asf file. MP3 files copy and play fine.

Well, the folks at Apple beg to differ....
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93548.
It specifically lists a whole set of Creative products, including the MuVo, that are compatible with iTunes.
Though I am having the exact same problem, where I can't get it to recognize the device.
I had the one I got from Audible, but never used, and wanted to set it up for my kid.
Not sure if perhaps the Audible player was set up by default for PC use...not sure.
Will look through the threads more.

Customer Care the Creative Labs way.The key phrases here are:we appreciate the opportunity to assist you. If you still require assistance, please reply to this email? To cut a long story short..I have a Creative Labs portable MP3 player (a Zen Sleek 20 Gb) which requires a new battery. The machine was bought new, has been well looked after and is otherwise in perfect working order. Although the machine is just 5 years old Creative say they no longer provide any after sales support for it and, although not in so many words, advise me that my only option is to replace it. Dear Marc,
For this issue, I do apologize but please understand that we no longer have any spare parts for the player like the battery to be able to offer repair serivces.
We have discontinued manufacturing parts for the player for more than 2
years now and without parts, we cannot offer any type of repairs.
If it were available, we would have offered you the repair service in
the first place. What good would it be for us to decline you of repair
    options.
Do what you think is right abd proper but like I said and as what my
colleagues informed you previously, we no longer have any repair options
    for the Zen Sleek player.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly xxxxxxx.
Creative designed (and sold) the machine with a built-in battery.
Creative's engineer's and product designer's know that rechargeable
batteries have a finite and rather short life-span. Much shorter than
the life span of the Zen Sleek 20 Gb as a whole.
I am not prepared to throw this machine away and buy a replacement when
all it needs is a new battery.
Unless Creative would like this entire correspondence to be posted on
relevant consumer web sites, such as anythingbutipod.com I suggest you
get back to me with an appropriate solution.

    Thanks xxxxxxx,
In the case of the player in question, I still believe the battery
needs to be changed. THis is normal given the age of the player and the
amount of use it has had.
What are my solutions for achieving this?
I have always believed that Creative is not the sort of company which
lets its customers down when it comes to afer sales support.
As I have said previously, the machine is in perfect condition and is
only around 5 or 6 years old. It was a very high spec machine when I
bought it and I have neither the money nor the inclination to change
    it.
Could you please advise as to how I can replace the battery, and not
refer me to any other parts of your web site.

This player is still functioning perfectly. It never skips, rarely freezes and is generally in excellent condition.
All the interfaces, charge leads work perfectly. It deli'vers excellent sound quality.
As a result of being charged a great number of times, the battery no longer holds as much charge as it did when new. The player's autonomy has decreased sharply as a result and, unless I am able to charge it every 2-3 hours or so, I cannot use it.
The player is not that old, no more than 5 or 6 years.
Surely there must be some solution for prolonging its useful life.
I will leave it with you to make inquiries within the Creative Labs structures.
    Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to respond Mike,
This is an interesting take on the situation.
I do not consider 5 years as an acceptable life span for a machine which cost close to 200 GBP, was made by a highly reputable manufacturer and has been well looked after. 0 perha
    ps.
If this is the case, then at the moment of sale the customer should be advised of the limited life span.
I have not the skills, the material, the time nor the inclanation to take the machine apart myself, even if a suitable new battery could be found.
I agree with you that the cost of repair is likely to exceed the cost of replacement.
I shall continue to use the machine for as long as I am able (despite its short autonomy) and will look to Creative's competitors when I eventually replace it.

  • 2 times negative experience with Creative Labs mp3 play

Hey,?I wanted to share my negati've experiences with you on two different Creative Labs mp3 players that I happened to own and suffer from. Before you jump to any fast conclusions or start drawing any parallels note that I loved the sound quality of both 5Gb Zen Micro and 30Gb Zen Vision:M and that I purchased both of them in Ukraine. 5Gb Zen Micro, my first player, was fine until I accidentally dropped it'sfrom about m above the floor. The player was fine and still able to play the music but... the screen was gone. The screen would only light up a few seconds after booting and then go dark and leave you in dark to guess your way through the menu. The sensitivity of the touch pad was way too high even at the lowest level and I often made mistakes with it. But sadly enough there is no support whatsoever in Ukraine. Email support was useless as you can't really have any software solution to the corrupted screen. I had to forget it :-(. Next, I got excited about the 30Gb Zen Vision:M. I was happy to buy a good alternati've to an Ipod but my joy was premature. After very little use of my Zen Vision I once left it unused for about a month. The next thing I noticed was that my battery is dead. The battery would not charge no matter how long I tried to do it! Not even several months passed since I purchased it when the Li-Ion battery went dead. Once again there was no customer support center to go to to fix it and there was no way to return it to the shop either. I had to replace the battery somehow. I am sure many of you saw detailed step-by-step instructions on how to disassemble the Zen Vision and get access to the battery. I bought a replacement battery on Ebay and had the original one replaced only to find out the replacement battery was dead at opening!!! I next ordered another battery on Ebay with a one-year warranty but yet again the battery would not charge. At first it would not charge and then after about 5 hours of charging it would show 00% charge but the player would shut off immediately once I disconnected the AC adapter. I gave up trying to do it myself and there is no local customer service center here. I would send it to the US for repairs but Creative has hidden all service center addresses and puts you through a very long and tedious way of reporting problems with your Zen player. I am very frustrated indeed! I don't wanna buy another Creative player and face the same problems and terrible customer service. I hope someone from Creative Labs will read this and advise the company on how to improve. Creative is losing the battle to Apple believe it or not. Apple is making tons of money on its players with poorer audio quality and fewer features because their customer service is superior. Creative is losing money quarter after quarter because their battery suppliers are not producing consistent-quality batteries, customer service support is non-existent in many countries outside the US and because many popular Creative players come with a user-unfriendly built-in battery!!!

    Hey, everyone!
Thanks for your comments. I am in no way shying away from my responsibility in the case of dropping my first Zen. Such things do happen as you know. The point I was trying to make was that there is NO Creative service center over here, neither in Russia or any neighboring country I could go to.
Yes, Apple does have many service centers in Ukraine. So what do you do with the product that you can't repair? It wasn't completely shattered and a replacement of the screen or maybe some chip would fix it.
As for the battery I have to disagree. For a Li-Ion battery one month shouldn't be a problem. Someone asked who makes the batteries for Creative Labs. It's the company called SKC. http://www.skc.co.kr/skhp/en/prod/bat/03.jsp
Once again, maybe changing the battery yourself isn't the best idea but I simply have no other option and you simply don't want to throw away $360.
I still think that Creative should have done a better job selecting the battery supplier and especially setting up service centers locally. A lot of people over here buy Creative Zens and face similar problems. We have nowhere to go for service. I would rather send it in for repairs but Creative does superb job of hiding its technical support email forcing you to go through a web form.
And unfortunately Creative financial performance is only worsening:
    http://www.creative.com/corporate/in...gs_Release.pdf
I don't know how much longer they are going to stay in business. I don't like Ipods and all that hype about them but I'd prefer to have better choices and responsi'veness from Creative.

  • What speakers work with the Creative Labs DDTS-100 Digital Decoder-Upto 7.1

what speakers do the Creative Labs DDTS-100 Digital Decoder-Upto 7.1 work with thanks

Unless the Digital 5500 speaker set has analog inputs it can't be used with the DDTS-100. You must connect the DDTS-100 to a speaker system through the analog outputs either from the main unit or the switchbox. I have not heard of any cables to convert analog audio into digital form so digital speakers can understand and play it.
The best speaker system? I have absolutely no idea dude. You must be the judge of that, if it is you who are going to listen to it. I like my S750 system but that is me. You have to read loads of info and reviews and preferably listen to them in a store if you can.

  • Creative MediaSource will not play certain MP3

I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX with a remote that I really want to be able to use. Programs such as GIRDER, WinLIRC, and uICE do not support the RM-500 remote control.
I can't figure out how to control the remote beyond editing and creating key files that send ASCII commands, but the problem with that is I cannot control programs that are not currently acti've. In other words, I cannot control winamp if I'm playing a game with my remote, which is what I want to do. The KEY files are structured as this:[KeyEvent690 etc]KeyName=whateveryouwantdisplayedNotification=- or 2 or 4KeyEventRemap=this is the important partHandleByApp=i don't know what this doesAnyway, if I set notification to -, I can send ASCII commands-- BUT these will not send to programs not currently on top. If I set notification to 2, as Creative did in their Winamp .x key file, I could control the program even if it is not on top-- BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE KeyEventRemaps NUMBERS SHOULD BE. I cannot find this information, and I have tested as far as I am capable of doing manually (tested numbers through 500 MANUALLY).So what I want to be able to do is use my remote to control winamp, but that is impossible. And Creative MediaSource will not play streaming audio (for God knows why...). So what I decided to do was record to an MP3 player with a third party program and play that MP3 in the Creative MediaSource software (the built-in recorder will NOT work, as I cannot structure that into a playlist nor can I play the recording media nor can I minimize the program and mute the feedback-- I can only record if I'm playing, and this doesn't work). The first problem I encountered was several programs would not output MP3s that were playable as they were being recorded, however I finally did find one. This program, 3aLab iRadio, allows the MP3 to be played back WHILE simultaneously being recorded. The only problem is that this the Creative MediaSource software will NOT play the mp3. Out of the 5 different MP3 players I tested, ONLY the Creative MediaSource software would not playback the MP3 as being written. I cannot figure this out, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. I realize that Creative won't support streaming audio with their player, MediaSource, but what I like to do is listen to streaming internet radio as an item on my mp3 playlist in winamp. I wish to be able to control this with my remote, but as I cannot find ANY WAY out there to control my remote as I wish without further information, this is a dead end. My alternati've is to use the Creative software for which the remote was designed to work, but unfortunately this does not support streaming internet radio nor does it support MP3s that are being written to. This is driving me insane.
What I want to be able to do is have a playlist that I control with my remote, with the first item on the list being internet radio, the 2nd and such on down being MP3s. In winamp, this is doable, as well as in Windows Media Player, and most MP3 players out there. Since I cannot do this in Creative's software, I need a workaround alternati've. PLEASE.
So, in conclusion, is there anyone out there who can either tell me how to control my remote directly by identifying what the notification=2 keyeventremap=configuarions are, give me a program like girder however which supports the RM-500 remote, or tell me how to get MP3s that are being written to (aka incomplete) to play in the Creative MediaSource software?
Thank you very much for your time.

  • Do your MP3s play back with digital clicks and distortion on new iPad?

I have thousands of MP3s encoded to 192 in my iTunes library that have played flawlessly on my iPods, iPhone, first-gen iPad and Macs with no problems. All the MP3s played back on my third-gen iPad (ATT 4G) randomly have clicks and digital distortion through them. These clicks and distortions don't always happen in the same place and not always with the same file. This points to a problem with the iPad. Anyone else having this problem?

    Thought I may as well post some additional photos consisting of my iPad compared to my sisters iPad 4;
Mine is the top iPad, sisters is the bottom iPad.

  • Creative Labs MP3 product reliability

Since September of 2007 I have purchased three Creative Labs MP3 players. I bought a Zen V Plus, a Zen Micro, and a Zen Mozaic.
The Zen V Plus and the Zen Micro have both stopped working.
The customer support line tells me that repair of these products will be as expensi've as buying a new MP3 player.
With this level of reliabilty, why would I want to buy another Creative Labs MP3 player? It would seem much less expensi've to simply buy another brand of MP3 player, and save my money for buying music downloads.

I do still have the Micro. I even know how to fix it. All I'd have to do is reformat the unit. Unfortunately, to reformat the unit you need to be able to see more that just random lines on the screen; you actually need to be able to read the screen so that you can scroll down to where you can reformat the unit.
So, while I realize that all electronics can have issues, I'm certainly not satisfied with having 2 out of 3 units go belly up, and know that my option is to buy another unit from the same company.
That is simply too expensi've a path to continue.
On the bright side, my daughter is willing to give me her fi've year old IPod, which still works just as advertised.

  • Creative MP3 Play

Dont buy one. The 2 I had just broke and I got the run around from Creative Labs cost more to fix than buying another one. Save yourself the headaches. There all over priced junk. To Creative Labs dont forget to take down my message so no one else can read it. You do want to suck somemore money from other people dont you.

I think these do actually work, but the problem is having enough people who are un-sceptical enough to do it. Otherwise it's too much hassle.
There was an article about these kind of sites on the BBC as well, so don't try and shout at me saying they're scams. Basically they're new ways of companies to advertise products as there's a reward for the person.
