Creative Media Explorer & Windows 7

I have a Sleek Photo and recently purchased a laptop with Windows 7. When I went to load Creative software, everything went fine except Media Explorer no longer works. It seems to be looking for Windows Explorer as a shell and can't find it's Windows Media Player/Center works with the Sleek but Creative's program worked smoother as a shell (with XP) and for ripping. Is this a Window's 7 issue? Am I relegated to WMP from now on? As a side bar, the Zencast program works fine. Thx, TL

I found this out the hard way too...the Zen Media Explorer does not work with Windows 7 in either 32 bit or 64 bit versions. You have to uninstall the Zen Media Explorer and use their new (and worse in my opinion) Windows 7 Creative Starter pack...it will work but it's not pretty. I believe the program once installed is called Centrale. You'll find it on the page for your specific media player. For example, mine is a Zen 8 GB and my software is available from the Zen homepage: http://support.creative.com/Products...=CategoryID:23
Don't rely on the battery indicator in the software either. It's not accurate.

  • Creative Media Explorer for ZEN 16GB on Win7 Acting Weird

E-mailed Creative support earlier this evening only to have them get back to me that you only get a year of e-mail support This is what I originally wrote to them:
"Hello, Creative Media Explorer now acts strangely whenever I try to add music purchased from iTunes. If I drag-and- drop the iTunes music using Windows Explorer, a window will pop up saying "Preparing" and then a conversion will proceed where the iTunes music is converted from the .m4a format to a .wma file. When I try to use the "Add iTunes Media" wizard from the main Creative Media Explorer window, it says "The following files are not transferred" and says "Unknown error" under the "Reason" tab. This has never happened before. I have looked up the specs for the Creative ZEN player, and it says it can play purchased iTunes music, so I should not be seeing a conversion box or an error. I have previously added iTunes music with no problems and they playback fine. The only way I can add purchased iTunes music is to directly add to the player without using the Creative Media Explorer through "Portable Devices". When I add purchased iTunes music this way, it asks me "Do you want to convert (filename) before it s copied to your device?" and I see the options "Yes, convert and copy" and "No, just copy" with a warning on the bottom that says "Your file will be copied, but might not play on your device." I add the music, and it works fine.
I have tried the "Repair" utility under "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows; I have un-installed and re-installed the program from the original CD-ROM; and I have un-installed the program from CD-ROM and re-installed the program by downloading the .exe file for 64-bit systems from the ZEN webpage.
The only thing I can think of is that an update for Windows may have messed something up with Creative Media Explorer."

  • Bad Software Update: Creative Media Explorer 6.21.08 Software Pack for

I've just tried installing the 9 April update for the Zen Vision:M 30GB - the Creative Media Explorer 6.2.08 Software Pack for the Zen Vision:M30 and 60 GB. This is supposed to run under Vista. Well, it launches fine, but someone forgot to put the install dialogue as the top-level window in the installshield. The dialogue is hopelessly trapped behind the snazzy Creative background screen - it's not a separate application, so there's no way to switch it to the front. If you kill off the upgrade in task manager, you can see the dialogue for a few seconds, then it dies as well. Creative - can you please pull this back and repackage it so that it actually works? Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with my 8gb?zen. On installation of the sen media explorer I get the error message "Microsoft(C) Register Server has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Installation completes but media explorer is not installed. As mentioned it doesnt mean the end of the player but it's nice to have full functionality from your new product. The price paid for these players, I think the least we can expect is a working suite of software. Actually, customer service gave up on me and said it is a Vista issue and they have not heard of such a problem before. Hmmmm, unlikely, unless my Vista 32bit (recently installed) configuration is unique.... and you don't exist.?I think they only way to get a solution is if others who have a similar issue post here. Hopefully some genius will figure it out, or Creative will address the issue. Mat

  • Zen Plus not compatible with Creative Media Explore

I have had my Zen Plus for almost a year. Use it primarily to listen to audio books and I love it, but there is one thing that drove me crazy when I first got it, and it still does it, but I have gotten used to it. (I have Windows XP)
When I connect my device via the USB plug, I get a Windows?pop up that says "Portable Device" in the title bar. It then tells me that Windows can perform the same action each time I connect this device. There are several actions to select from:?
. Open device to view files (using Windows Explorer)
. Sync digital media files to this device (using Windows Media Player)
. Manage the device (using Real Player)
. Organize Media files in this device (using Creative Media Explorer)
. Add music to the device (using Yahoo Music Jukebox)
. Manage the device (using Rhapsody)
    . TAKE NO ACTION
Then there is a checkbox below that says "Always take the selected action."
Then you can click "OK" or "Cancel"
If I perform the obvious action (the Creative Media Explorer), I get an error message that says:
"This device is not compatible with Creative Media Explorer. This application will now end".
If I then go to my Start>Programs menu, and open up the Creative Media Source 5 Organizer, my device shows up in the program and I can use it with no problem. It also works if I have the Creative Media Source 5 organizer open before I?connect
    In my Zen.
Don't know why it does this, or how to stop it but, as I stated previously - it is not a problem for me now that I know how to get around it, but it has probably caused a few new users to return their device because they? thought they could not get it to work.

here try this, works for melink

  • Problem with a patch for Creative Media Explorer for Ze

Has anyone had any problems with their PC (rebooting itself after install and getting a blue screen) when downloading and installing the update for Creative Media Explorer for Zen M to fix the album art problem for WMP?I downloaded this update per a response I got to thread here:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=79299?I downloaded the patch to update Creative Media Explorer. I was going to upgrade WMP to after that?but my PC got stuck at the startup screen during boot up. The hard dri've light indicator was on solid also. I thought maybe the dri've had died since I have had it for quite some time now. I took the dri've out and put it in an external enclosure I have that connects via USB. I was able to get into BIOS and set the boot order to boot from a USB dri've. When it started to boot up, it looked as if it was going to come up but it didn't. I seen a flash of a blue screen and the PC rebooted itself. I'm wondering if the update is causing the OS to hose up on start up. That's why I'm just wondering if anyone has downloaded this update with any problems. The update can be found here: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=3&x=40&y=7. It is number 5. I'm currently defraging my dri've and I am somehow going to try and repair the OS if I can and uninstall Media Explorer and reinstall. Oh one other thing, it will not boot into safe mode either.

I downloaded the patch and installed it on my PC and everything worked like a charm, and right after that my music started showing Album Art.However, I still didn't replace the new firmware on my Zen Vision M (.6) and I wonder if I should, since everything seems to work wonderfully well at this point?

  • Creative Zen 16GB playlist using anything but Creative Media Explore

I need some suggestions for creating a playlist using anything but Creative Media Explorer. I hate drilling down throught the artist/album folders! I hate that I can't view my playlist in Media Explorer (Manage or Create Playlist) as anything but filenames. With a long playlist, it's hard to see if you've already added the song.
I can see my playlist on?WMP and Rhapsody but can't edit. Any other third party software that would help me? I guess Creative Media Source won't?work with the Zen 6GB. Thanks!

@ It could be incorrect ID3 tags on your .mp3s, if the source for your music had the wrong ID3 information, your Zen won't show the correct information unless you use an? ID3 Tag Editor to correct the source.

  • Not sure what Lame is??? does Creative media explorer & Creative mediaSource Oganizer use mp3 LA

I'm thinkin' about movin' over to Lame mp3 encoding, (right now i'm using wma 92) I'm not sure what lame is.
everyone is using mp3 format, so i said to my self "eeeh just forget about wma and join the croud".
so i wanna move over to mp3 format (Lame encoding what ever that is.)
What i wanted to know is, does creative media explorer have mp3 lame encoding?
does creative mediaSource Oganizer have lame encoding also?
what bit rate should i use for mp3 format? (I like it to be good sound quality)
    thanks in advance

Collegeboy, you have several threads going on this same subject all of which together give a pretty good picture of lame vs other mp3 encoders vs wma. I know your posts in the past promote wma and that is your choice, but if you want to research this topic, visit HydrogenAudio or head-fi forums and enjoy the postings of the socalled audiophiles and true audio geeks :-)
I know that versions of lame are not all equal and that the latest version 3.96. with the right switches, is about 40% faster than previous versions and is as accurate in keeping as much of the original as it can in its encode.
Fraunhofer (Fraunhofer Institute in Erlangen Germany where they invented mp3 and hold patents) has a couple of major versions. The standard version that packages like Creative and MusicMatch use, is the FHIIs version. There is I think, a Professional Version too but that costs big bucks to license (as opposed I guess to little bucks for IIs) and note lame is free! FHIIS uses a noise reduction scheme to brickwall above 6kHz or something like that number. If you look at Lame encoded music in a frequency analysed mode, using the preset standard or preset extreme switches you can see the Lame encoding follows the original right up to 9kHz and higher and the FHIIs encoding drops off at 6KHz. That much difference is noticeable if you have the right playback equipment.
There was a comment in one of the threads you started on this, that this whole topic could be contentious. Well it is and is so subjecti've too as some folks could never tell the differences, some would never listen to their music so they could tell the difference, some would never listne to compressed music if their life depended on it and the story goes on.
    OK with all this?

  • Creative Media Explore dissappeared with Windows 7 32 Bit Home Premium

I have a Creative Zen Vision M and was using it with Vista 32 Bit and I had the media explorer where I could add music albums, manipulate play lists etc which was an add in into Windows Explorer. Of course i upgraded and expected to have some functionality change or go away and according to my Windows 7 Upgrade report i didnt see anything that would affect Creative Software. Now it appears to be gone and I am trying to use Windows Media PLayer and I am struggling to manipulate play lists etc. Is there any way to get it back?

Doesnt someone know why this is happening?

  • Zen V Plus recognized by device manager, but not by Media Explorer/Windows Media Pla

    Hi,
I just got back from Best Buy after buying a Creative Zen V Plus. I installed everything from the CD and plugged in the player, but the Media Explorer doesn't recognize it (even after restarting PC). The Device Manager recognizes it but there's an exclamation mark next to it. The Windows Wizard came up numerous times asking me for permission to connect to the internet and install the driver for me, and after a while I tried doing so but it said it couldn't find anything (I would like to shave that wizard's beard off).
I went through all the stickies in the forum and about 3 different troubleshooting sessions with no luck. I googled it and asked this question on Ask Yahoo!, but no luck yet.
    Here's my PC info:
    Windows XP SP2
    768MB Ram
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
USB 2.0 (I tried different ports, the player does seem to be charging as there's a little lightning bolt flashing on top of the battery icon)
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
    Thanks!

Ok. I checked my version of XP. It is XP Pro, Version 2002, SP2. I checked and already had the 2 hotfixes that were listed as being needed before proceeding. I followed all the steps and changed the registry key on "everyone" as the instructions stated to do. My ZVM is still not recognized by any of the software for transferring or organizing MP3's. My computer still recognizes that it is attached. It still gives me the device icon in the task bar. It still says it's A-ok in the Device Manager. It does everything, except it is not detected by ANY of my music software. <sigh>? Frustration is at its peak for me right now. I really appreciate all of the efforts. I'm at my wits end now. I have done everything you have indicated I should, but am getting the same results. I did purchase an extended warranty from Circuit City where I purchased this last summer. Is that the next step? Do I need to get this replaced?I love this player and really don't want to go through this again. We had to exchange it twice in the first month because it froze up and wouldn't do a thing. This last one has been perfect. I keep it in a leather padded case at all times. It never has the battery drained. It never gets jostled or bumped or dropped or anything that might damage it. When not being played, it stays on my desk in the case.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

  • How do you 'show what im listening to' on MSN, by playing the song in Creative Media Explor

I wish to play songs in my Creative Zen Media Explorer, and have them show on MSN. Via the 'Show what Im listening to' feature. Does anyone know if there is a way. or if there is an actual possibility of this happening? ThanksMessage Edited by Chater on 07-09-200709:42 AM

I believe that feature only supports certain players, of which mediasource is probably not one.

  • Creative Media Explorer cras

    Hi all,
My Zen Media Explorer was working just fine since I got my player (about months ago) until a week or so ago. Now when I try to open it, I get an error message from Windows that it has experience a problem and asking if I want to send an error report. It'd be fabulous to be able to use this program again because I'd love to start rebuilding a few of my playlists. The only program I've installed since the change was ZenCast, but I didn't think that would be an issue. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks a million!Jessica

No, it's not that. Like I said, I have some 800 folders in that music folder (the folder which the software grabs the tracks). Each folder is a band or an artist. Inside each one, there's the albums inside an individual folder. So, Bob is one among 800. I have 20 Dylan's albums (just checked)but, for example, I have 0 Black Sabbath albums. Not a single time did the software included a track by this band. Right now, I have 2 tracks from ELO on the Muvo. I just have 2 albums by that band. I also have 2 tracks from Belle and Sebastian on the player, just one album in the pc hard dri've. I have 5 Neal Young albums also, not a single time did he included a track from them. Really, it must be something else... Btw, when I say albums, is a complete CD. I've tried another thing, setting the software to fill the player with tracks from my Jazz folder (about 500 folders/artists). No obsession here and I do have a lot of albums from Miles and Bill Evans compared to other artists. I didn't said before, but I have this player for about an year or so and it's been always like this.

  • Creative Media Source + Windows XP Media Cen

I have always used the Creative Media Source as an audio player and as a method of creating playlists etc.
I just recieved a New Dell XPS400 with a Dell installed Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. This machine has WinXP Media Center Edition installed as an operating system, for which I did a clean re-install. In reistalling the software from the Creative disk that was supplied with the computer I noticed that Creative Media Source was not included as part of the package. I further noticed that the in the download section of the website that this isn't an available download for the Win XP Media Center OS, even though it is available for Win XP Home edition.
Is there a compatibility problem in using the Creative Media Source with this OS ? Is there a conflict with the other Creative software that is typically installed with this card? In case it makes a difference; in playing back wav and mp3 audio files I am not interested in opening up the Win Media Center interface in order to play those files or create playlists, I simply want to associate those audio files to open and play with the Creative Media Source as I have always done with previous versions of Windows XP.
Thanks for any advice and clearification !

Hi m8. Just install the Windows XP version (Professional), and it will work, as I use Creative Media Source with Windows Media Center 2005, no problems. After, try the "product update" under support on the creative site, to see if there are any new things to update, just incase.

I've been looking for the driver for my MuVo V00 and I can't find the basic driver, only the supplementary software and the firmware. I'm looking for what came on the CD. I've been looking on the site for several hours now. Help!!!

It says specifically in the manual, which I just downloaded, not to plug in the player without first installing the driver on the CD. I am traveling and forgot to bring the CD with me.
