Creative Media Source problem with removable hardd

Hi,
I have my mp3 files stored on a external harddisk, using the following folder structure:
f:\mein musik\artist\ album\*.mp3. The problem I have is that the Creative Media Source program keeps forgetting that my "mein musik" folder contains the mp3 files that I'd imported before in my "PC Music Library". Just for info: I "told" Media Source to keep the PC Library in folder f:\mein musik.
Every time I restart my PC, the PC Music Library shows no mp3 tracks at all, even though my external harddisk is connected. This is of course extremely annoying because it takes many minutes before my +/- 3000 mp3 tracks are imported again.
What could be he cause of this problem and how could I overcome this? Would I need to use for my PC Library a folder that is located on my "normal" internal harddisk?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
Tom

I believe the Media Sniffer feature of your MediaSource is enabled to sniff your external hard disk folders. Try disabling the sniffing of your external hard disk.

I am also having the same problem and I thought about reinstalling Media Source (I have thet latest version), my only fear is that I have almost 3000, which are backed on an external dri've, but these songs are all?TAGGED, rated and?all have album art, am I going to lose all this info if I reinstall Media Source? Also, do I have to uninstall first and then reinstall and just install over the previous version?

  • Creative Media Source - Problem adding a song to playl

I created playlists for my Zen Vision M using Creative Media Source. I did not use the PC Library but rather used the player as the source and created play lists. I have successfully added songs to the playlists over the past several months. Yesterday when I added a song, it replaced the entire playlist with the one song that I was adding. I tested several more times by creating new playlists and the same thing happened.
I can accomplish the same thing using the explorer but prefer Creative Media Source. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice? Thanks. Jay

Try download and install the latest MediaSource 5.0.38 and the MediaSource plugin of your ZEN Vision:M. Creative MediaSource 5 and its various plugins are now officially available for download at your respecti've product download sites. The main Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer:

  • Creative Media Source 5 Install Problems

(Creative Media Source 5 Install ProblemsM I've looked through some of the other install issues and can't seem to find my problem, but apologize if this is somewhere I did not find... I had installed and have been running CMS5 on my desktop for a while. Recently I had to reformat my hard dri've and reinstall Windows from scratch. Upon trying to install CMS5 on my Windows XP SP3 system, I got a bunch of errors basically saying something to the effect of "Installation is unable to continue because of one or more unresolved issues....."? Then it lists a file TagMgru.mft. After cancelling that error, they continue to come up for Id3Tagu.mft, WmaTagu.mft, OggTagu.mft, Mp4Tagu.mft. The error message comes up twice for each of the listed files, and then the installation does not complete. Any ideas? I was using an install file downloaded from Creative's [email protected]

Yes I realize that--I'm thinking more specifically that CMS5 doesn't play well with SP3? The problem with your solution is that I don't like WMP. At least, I don't like the fact that you can't play your music straight from your device. You have to sync your device and copy all of your music onto your hard dri've to play from the device connected to the computer. That was mainly what I used CMS5 for--playing music directly from my device through the computer?without having to copy all of its contents onto my hard dri've. I keep my music stored on my Zen Microphoto so it doesn't take up space on my computer...
I would Google the errors & see what comes up.. I'm fairly certain that Sp3 probably included WMP with it so that may be the source of the conflict if you installed it. Since it was a reinstall I don't know if you'll be able to install WMP0 instead. You could try that & see if that hel
    ps.
If you don't have backup copies of your music(cd or external dri've)you should do so. If the player's hardri've ever fails for whatever reason at least you will have an archi've & not lose all your files.

  • How do you Interface Zen Vision M with Creative Media Source 5 in WIndows XP?

I am having problems getting the Zen Vision M player to interface with Creative Media Source5 in Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
It does show up in the Device Manager System as a Portable Device and shows it working correctly.
When I try to download one of the updates for Media Source 5 it will not install "player not found message"
So now how do I get it to work with the Creative Media Source? It does not show this player at all.
Just a note: I did get this player to work in Vista 64 and interface with Creative Media Source 5 but could not download Creative Explorer with Vista 64.

Well thanks again!!! I must have downloaded the wrong file think it was the 38 version. I downloaded the 36 version and it works great!!!
I think everything is working on both computers. Im glad because I bought another Vision M from someone on HardForum.
One of the two might work for a Christmas present for my wife. Now we can get rid of our old Rio Players.

  • Audigy LS software problem: Creative media Source doesn't function correc

  • Creative media source and Live!

Does anybody knows what is list of selected cards that can use crossfading in Creative media source?
Why Li've! 5. cannot? Not even EAX?
    Thanks in advance

If you have the newer 24-bit versions of the Li've cards then disregard the following.
Perhaps you've installed some of that updated modded stuff? (I've tried it at times too, but always returned to the official 252 driver/software Uni-Pack stuff.)
The software you've got is not designed for the Li've series of cards. If you used the official cd's for the Audigy 2 series (not ZS), it all works as long as you choose not to install EAX Console and Speaker Calibrator. You should also not install MediaSource Player, choosing instead the PlayCenter 3.02.52 and , on XP, updating it to 3.02.70.
You'll probably need to use the ctcomp.exe (search) on the Audio\language\Setup\Setup.exe file. So you'd need the cd copied to a folder on your harddri've so you can let ctcomp adjust the files.
Then you run AudioHQ and choose to run on startup and load in systray in the options dropdown and use the EAX Control applet to control your effects. The AdvancedEQ effects work as long as you choose the effect, click the ParametricEQ in the center, then tick the volume slider tab with your mouse, exit and save. You need to do this everytime you apply an effect.
Or, you can install the U-UPAX stuff which has been modded (driverheaven forum for links). I believe MediaSource works with their setup.
I'm telling you though, your card will not give you any extra stuff it is not hardware designed to provide. So, you still only get EAX and 2, no Advanced HD EAX 3 or 4.
And, the sound quality for music is superior with the official 252 Li've Uni-Pack setup. Unless you like overwhelming, booming bass and the midrange missing sounds. Those updated Audigy 2 and up drivers may have settings and files for the Li've, but they are tuned for the Audigy 2 and up.
The 3 best optimizations made for the Li've were the old Li'veware 3.0 vxd drivers, the APS mod for the Li've (both for 9x), and the kXProject drivers (for XP). By far the most problem free software package was the Li've Uni-Pack. And it sounds okay.
So there you go. Now, if after you uninstall whatever you've got, the setup file of the package you select doesn't say "No SoundBlaster hardware installed" you'll be lucky. Modern Creative drivers oftentimes remove something when uninstalled that messes up the hardware detection and if installing with CTZAPP doesn't magically let the software setup recognize the card again then only a format will fix it.

  • Creative Media Source 5 and Zen

I own the Zen VW and use the Creative Media Source 5. The problem I find is when I try to transfer songs to the Zen. I am trying to copy my smart playlist of fi've star tracks over. On the pc it has over 000 tracks, but only 550 or so end up on my Zen, what can I do to make sure all the tracks transfer over?

What I have to do to make sure that every song gets transfered over, is to copy them in sets of 50 at a time. But with each set of 50, I dont get every song on the Zen, I have to delete how ever man of the 50 came over, and transfer the set of 50 again, the second time, every of the 50 songs transfers over. This is a pain when I have a play list of 000 songs. I have tried the whole list of 000 songs in one transfer, and I only get about half, and with a second transfer, I dont get much more.
    What can fix this problem?

Am I missing something or am I doing something wrong? I hilight that section in the menue bar but nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this issue?

  • Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corrupt

0Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corrupt? After doing some backup utilities on my music archi've, and relocating them to a new larger dri've, I am now receiving messages that my PC Music Library is corrupt, and is unusable. All of my playlists are gone, and I can't make new ones. it attempts to access a backup copy of the PC Music Library, fails at that as well, then reports it will make a new one. This fails as well, and the message recommends to repair the Microsoft jet Databse Engine and the MDAC, etc.
So naturally, I go to the Microsoft website, as instructed by Creative, and that's about as useful as you'd expect...none.
I have attempted to delete what remains of the old one, both via Media Source and Windows (XP),? and have even reinstalled media source. The problem persists. I'm less concerned about recovery of the old playlists than I am simply starting over with new ones (it was time for a redo anyways).
Media Source itself works fine in all other apsects. It can read files, play music, and interact with my Creative Zen Xtra device. But it's all useless if I can't make playlists for use on the PC and transfer to the Zen.
Anyone have any ideas? I just want to be able to use my stuff again.

Re: Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corruptn Wasn't aware that it was possible, and haven't seen anything that tells how it could be done. Typically I make my playlists in Creative Media Center, in Organizer mode. As I'm pawing through the archi've and want to add a specific track to a playlist, I? right-click>add to playlist, select the playlist from the drop-down, and move on.
After deleting the old corrupted playlist files, and starting over from scratch, here is what happens:? I attempt to add a track to a playlist...no playlists exist, so I create one on the spot. Upon submitting the info, CMS crashes. ? I reopen CMS, now the PC Music Library is corrupted again, the backup is corrupted, and no playlists exist, etc. At that point, I can delete the playlist files again, and start the process over again (resulting in the same: CMS crashes and I have corrupted playlists.)

  • Creative media source-How to apply audio cleanup permanant

I have some older blues in mp3 format that I have downloaded and some that I have ripped from cd. They have alot of hissing and "noise" in the background, when in creative media source organizer, I use audio clean-up button to get rid of hissing and noise, but if I want to burn those songs to cd, how do I apply the audio clean up to the file.
Also It mentioned in all of the advertising that you can "super rip" your audio cd's, which I have done, but it also says you can permanantly change your whole music "library" into better quality (I am assuming using crystalizer), but how do I permanantly apply these settings to the music files on my hard dri've. Does any one know how to do this, or if there are any good "links" or tutorials I should look at, thanks in advance for replys.

No, you cannot apply audio clean up permanently to the files. Audio clean up is a unique feature of MediaSource's playback. The noise will be removed by MediaSource before MediaSource plays the audio. However, the physical file is not changed at all. One trick you can use is to record What U Hear while playing the files with clean up enabled. This way, you can record the clean audio.
SuperRip's audio enhancement cannot be applied permanently to your existing files. You can use the same trick of recording What U Hear.

  • Creative Media Source takeover attem

I have a Zen V Plus, use Windows XP, and have Creative Media Source and Windows Media Player on my desktop. I use Winpatrol to monitor my startup activities, and lately it has been popping up a msg that says Creative is trying to become the default .MP3 file association. I use Media Player for managing my music and audiobooks. I keep telling Winpatrol to not allow the change, but I would like to know how to get the attempts to stop. The wonderful folks at Creative customer support? have told me that my free period has ended, but they would be happy to take my money and attempt to give me an answer. They are not going to get any.

  • Creative Media Source Probl

Hi, i figured this should go in here.
Everytime i try to run creative media source i get the "Creative MediaSource Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error message and it just wont open. The error i get says it has something to do with the file "C:\DOCUME~\BARRYT~\LOCALS~\Temp\WER687.tmp.dir00\ appcompat.txt" but i am sceptical as to how much this file actually has to do with anything. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas as how to fix this.
Also if it is unfixable, is there anyway to back up my music library so i can reinstall creative media course without having to re-add all my MP3's (i keep them on various locations on my PC you see, i also fear if i reinstall, ill have to tag all my files via mediasource again)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Delete every files and folders under "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\MediaSource" and try launching MediaSource again.

  • Creative Media Source + Windows XP Media Cen

I have always used the Creative Media Source as an audio player and as a method of creating playlists etc.
I just recieved a New Dell XPS400 with a Dell installed Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. This machine has WinXP Media Center Edition installed as an operating system, for which I did a clean re-install. In reistalling the software from the Creative disk that was supplied with the computer I noticed that Creative Media Source was not included as part of the package. I further noticed that the in the download section of the website that this isn't an available download for the Win XP Media Center OS, even though it is available for Win XP Home edition.
Is there a compatibility problem in using the Creative Media Source with this OS ? Is there a conflict with the other Creative software that is typically installed with this card? In case it makes a difference; in playing back wav and mp3 audio files I am not interested in opening up the Win Media Center interface in order to play those files or create playlists, I simply want to associate those audio files to open and play with the Creative Media Source as I have always done with previous versions of Windows XP.
Thanks for any advice and clearification !

Hi m8. Just install the Windows XP version (Professional), and it will work, as I use Creative Media Source with Windows Media Center 2005, no problems. After, try the "product update" under support on the creative site, to see if there are any new things to update, just incase.

  • Creative Media Source won't install

I just bought a Zen Microphoto and I was anxious to upload my songs on the forementioned player. However as I tried to install Creative MediaSource which I downloaded from this very site, I encountered a strange problem.
I clicked on the setup and my PC proceeded to extract the files, and when the setup screen loads up, there's a message saying "Looking for previously installed components" and there are two setup screens minimized to my taskbar (CMS web installer and Creative Media Source - Install Shield Wizard) Whenever I click either of them nothing will happen. I'm pretty confused about this.
I'm sure it's not my hardware because my PC is up to date and I never had problems of the likes. I browsed the forums for an answer and I've heard of a software conflict with quicktime, I followed the advices with no results. I'm pretty desperate right now and I can't wait to use my Zen MicroPhoto. Did anyone encounter a problem similar to this?

    Hi MusicoftheNight-
I had a similar issue when downloading the PlayForSure software for my Zen Touch. What I ended up doing was something I found in another thread. Download the installer, then use Winzip or Winrar and make an archi've of it. Unzip or Unrar it to another folder and then go into each folder and run the setup icons individually.
This is the only thing that worked for me.
When I needed to update just Mediasource I installed it in safe mode.
My computer is up to date and everything as well but this is the only thing that worked. Good luck!
