Creative Media Source + Windows XP Media Cen

I have always used the Creative Media Source as an audio player and as a method of creating playlists etc.
I just recieved a New Dell XPS400 with a Dell installed Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music card. This machine has WinXP Media Center Edition installed as an operating system, for which I did a clean re-install. In reistalling the software from the Creative disk that was supplied with the computer I noticed that Creative Media Source was not included as part of the package. I further noticed that the in the download section of the website that this isn't an available download for the Win XP Media Center OS, even though it is available for Win XP Home edition.
Is there a compatibility problem in using the Creative Media Source with this OS ? Is there a conflict with the other Creative software that is typically installed with this card? In case it makes a difference; in playing back wav and mp3 audio files I am not interested in opening up the Win Media Center interface in order to play those files or create playlists, I simply want to associate those audio files to open and play with the Creative Media Source as I have always done with previous versions of Windows XP.
Thanks for any advice and clearification !

Hi m8. Just install the Windows XP version (Professional), and it will work, as I use Creative Media Source with Windows Media Center 2005, no problems. After, try the "product update" under support on the creative site, to see if there are any new things to update, just incase.

  • Creative Media Source record volume level slider doesn't w

I had an older version of Creative Media Source and a installed the latest version off the website to try to fix the problem, but the same thing occurs in the current version. I want to record, but the slider is grayed out and when I try to use it, the whole media source window moves, not the slider. It's stuck on zero. My sound card drivers are installed and working correctly. I can play music and adjust the playback volume. The record volume used to work. I don't know why it stopped.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Russ

Recording level is not used when ripping CDs.

  • Install Media Source 5

Can't install Media Source 5 on Vista!
My Zen Touch with PlayForSure-Firmware is connected via USB to my PC and recognized by Vista (explorer and WMP ).
If I try to install Media Source 5 using CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_0_38.exe I got "can't find product".
if I try to install the plugin for PlayForSure-Players for Media Source 5 I got "can't find Media Source 5"
-> no Media Source 5 without plugin - but also no plugin without Media Source 5.
    What to do?

Have you installed the software below in order, if it's already recognized by Vista you should not have any problems. This worked for mine. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. . Creative ZENcast Organizer .04.06 Suite 2. Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 3. Creative CD Burner Plugin 5.0.3 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 4. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38

  • What is better creative media source or Windows media player?

Hey I just bought a new Zen player, and I noticed while ripping and uploading songs that the album art does not come along with it if I'm using the creative media source software. Now if I use my windows media player that came with my vista computer I do get the album art. So now my question is if Creative media source can't even do this simple task what is the benefit of using creative's media source? Are there things that it can do that windows media player can't do? Which is a better product to use? :smileyindifferent:angry:

    tapdiggity wrote:
And I guess another benefit to creative mediasource is converting video files for playback on the zen. Windows media player I don't think has a converter for video files for the zen.
That is part of the Creative Media Explorer not MediaSource. The Video Converter is slooow & not that great. I do use the Media Explorer it is better for making & editing playlists.

  • How do you Interface Zen Vision M with Creative Media Source 5 in WIndows XP?

I am having problems getting the Zen Vision M player to interface with Creative Media Source5 in Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
It does show up in the Device Manager System as a Portable Device and shows it working correctly.
When I try to download one of the updates for Media Source 5 it will not install "player not found message"
So now how do I get it to work with the Creative Media Source? It does not show this player at all.
Just a note: I did get this player to work in Vista 64 and interface with Creative Media Source 5 but could not download Creative Explorer with Vista 64.

Well thanks again!!! I must have downloaded the wrong file think it was the 38 version. I downloaded the 36 version and it works great!!!
I think everything is working on both computers. Im glad because I bought another Vision M from someone on HardForum.
One of the two might work for a Christmas present for my wife. Now we can get rid of our old Rio Players.

  • Creative Media Source won't display tracks on Zen Mi

When I hook up my Zen Micro, Media Source displays the music on the?Zen Micro in folders named by artist. Sub folders contain albums by that artist. The next sub foolders display track names. Can I change the settings so all of my tracks are shown as one list when I first choose the Zen Micro.

I have been chatting to some others and it appears that it isn't a WMP problem. Having seen a thread re: Zen synch, I tried to play the music through the Creative player but the Zen is not detected on that either.
In Windows XP I can see the Zen when I dock it, and I can see it in WMP, but it is not visible in the Creative Player?
Any ideas, is it a case of uninstalling the Creative software?

  • Creative Media Source Player not fo

Hi... I am lost & confused!!!! I purchased a new hard dri've & motherboard. I reinstalled my audigy 2zs card & loaded the install disk. To my suprise media player did not load...in fact I can't even find it on the original install disk!! I used the media player all the time and even plugged in my old hard dri've and behold..media player was on that hard dri've!! Can anybody tell me why it is not appearing on the original install disk whenin fact it was there when I loaded it the first time I purchased the card? It appears everything else will load off the install disk EXCEPT media source player.

There are differences in the details of how the various Creative soundcards work, and it would help me if I knew which one you have. I get the impression it came in the computer, and you don't actually know the answer. Where exactly are you trying to select what u hear? The Creative Media Source Player program (I've not used it, but it seems odd for a "player" program to do recording)? The mixer program? Which mixer, Windows or Creative's?

  • Windows Me media source lock

I have recently installed Creative media source on Windows ME
I am experiencing a problem in Ripping from CD to the HD.
The MoVo N200 is not connected to the USB as i am only trying to Rip to the Hrad dri've
when I hit the RIP button the transfer window appaers with 0% complete, It stays at 0% ( probably for ever ). if I delete at this point the transfer window locks up and just responds with a Bing noise.
I can paly CDs from Media source but the Ripping action does not work.
    Any thougts would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Andy T

It's either a problem with MediaSource, or a more general problem with Windows. Try installing some other ripping software (some favourites are listed here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net) and see if these work. This will identify at least where the problem lies.

  • Creative Media Source 5 Install Problems

(Creative Media Source 5 Install ProblemsM I've looked through some of the other install issues and can't seem to find my problem, but apologize if this is somewhere I did not find... I had installed and have been running CMS5 on my desktop for a while. Recently I had to reformat my hard dri've and reinstall Windows from scratch. Upon trying to install CMS5 on my Windows XP SP3 system, I got a bunch of errors basically saying something to the effect of "Installation is unable to continue because of one or more unresolved issues....."? Then it lists a file TagMgru.mft. After cancelling that error, they continue to come up for Id3Tagu.mft, WmaTagu.mft, OggTagu.mft, Mp4Tagu.mft. The error message comes up twice for each of the listed files, and then the installation does not complete. Any ideas? I was using an install file downloaded from Creative's [email protected]

Yes I realize that--I'm thinking more specifically that CMS5 doesn't play well with SP3? The problem with your solution is that I don't like WMP. At least, I don't like the fact that you can't play your music straight from your device. You have to sync your device and copy all of your music onto your hard dri've to play from the device connected to the computer. That was mainly what I used CMS5 for--playing music directly from my device through the computer?without having to copy all of its contents onto my hard dri've. I keep my music stored on my Zen Microphoto so it doesn't take up space on my computer...
I would Google the errors & see what comes up.. I'm fairly certain that Sp3 probably included WMP with it so that may be the source of the conflict if you installed it. Since it was a reinstall I don't know if you'll be able to install WMP0 instead. You could try that & see if that hel
    ps.
If you don't have backup copies of your music(cd or external dri've)you should do so. If the player's hardri've ever fails for whatever reason at least you will have an archi've & not lose all your files.

  • Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corrupt

0Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corrupt? After doing some backup utilities on my music archi've, and relocating them to a new larger dri've, I am now receiving messages that my PC Music Library is corrupt, and is unusable. All of my playlists are gone, and I can't make new ones. it attempts to access a backup copy of the PC Music Library, fails at that as well, then reports it will make a new one. This fails as well, and the message recommends to repair the Microsoft jet Databse Engine and the MDAC, etc.
So naturally, I go to the Microsoft website, as instructed by Creative, and that's about as useful as you'd expect...none.
I have attempted to delete what remains of the old one, both via Media Source and Windows (XP),? and have even reinstalled media source. The problem persists. I'm less concerned about recovery of the old playlists than I am simply starting over with new ones (it was time for a redo anyways).
Media Source itself works fine in all other apsects. It can read files, play music, and interact with my Creative Zen Xtra device. But it's all useless if I can't make playlists for use on the PC and transfer to the Zen.
Anyone have any ideas? I just want to be able to use my stuff again.

Re: Creative Media Source - PC Music Library Corruptn Wasn't aware that it was possible, and haven't seen anything that tells how it could be done. Typically I make my playlists in Creative Media Center, in Organizer mode. As I'm pawing through the archi've and want to add a specific track to a playlist, I? right-click>add to playlist, select the playlist from the drop-down, and move on.
After deleting the old corrupted playlist files, and starting over from scratch, here is what happens:? I attempt to add a track to a playlist...no playlists exist, so I create one on the spot. Upon submitting the info, CMS crashes. ? I reopen CMS, now the PC Music Library is corrupted again, the backup is corrupted, and no playlists exist, etc. At that point, I can delete the playlist files again, and start the process over again (resulting in the same: CMS crashes and I have corrupted playlists.)

  • Creative Media Source takeover attem

I have a Zen V Plus, use Windows XP, and have Creative Media Source and Windows Media Player on my desktop. I use Winpatrol to monitor my startup activities, and lately it has been popping up a msg that says Creative is trying to become the default .MP3 file association. I use Media Player for managing my music and audiobooks. I keep telling Winpatrol to not allow the change, but I would like to know how to get the attempts to stop. The wonderful folks at Creative customer support? have told me that my free period has ended, but they would be happy to take my money and attempt to give me an answer. They are not going to get any.

  • Creative media source organizer H

I have a Zen extra. I view the music I have on my harddri've using the creative media source organizer.
It shows the title, file size, type and date. I am trying to edit the properties to show more items, such as artist and album. Nothing works, I cant add these items. When I view this same music using windows explorer, the artist and album appear. Why wouldnt they show up in the Creative Media Organizer?

Azhat is referring to his PC hard disk. So, he is actually talking about MediaSource's My Computer. I cannot remember whether MediaSource v2 allows viewing of additional columns in My Computer; MediaSource v3 allows that.
Azhat, you can actually add the tracks from MediaSource's My Computer to MediaSource PC Music Library. You can then view additional track information by right-click to view more columns (as suggested by SSR).

  • Creative Media Source s

    Hello,
I am using the Creative MediaSource to play my music, but it is annoying because i have over 0,000 songs and it takes forever for MediaSource to load all the songs onto a playlist. Everytime I close MediaSource, I have to reload an entire playlist which sometimes can take a while and it is not my computer as I am running AMD 3400+ gig ram and everything new possible. Plus it is so difficult for me to find a song sometimes because there is no search option. I have to spend what feels like eternity to scroll up and down looking for a song I want to listen to. I prefer using Winamp, but the sound quality is better on media source so I'd rather use mediasource. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

sounds like something else is wrong, either a hinky install of the driver/apps or conflict with another app like winamp but not heard of it before now. You do have all the latest sw/drivers right? I know several have been released since X-Fi hit the market. I can definitly select all songs in a folder, thru say explorer, and drag from that window drop on mediasource and viola their added to my current p[laylist.
Actually just tried something diff, I draged a folder containing files and dropped it on the lil blue playback window (the thing that shows whats playing) and low and behold dropping a folder there added all songs that were in the folder. I did it 3 times in a row and it just kept adding them to playlist. Now how you add the Play with MS option to folders is but it does work here which is why I suggested other possibilities.

  • Creative Media Source Volume and System Vol

Whenever I change the volume in my Creative Media Source volume my system volume also goes down. Is there any way that I can lower the volume of Creative Media source without lowering my system volume?

    Hi !
I just tried the volume thing with Creative Media Source and In fact it does change the System Volume/ I looked in the options and there's no way to fix it. But on the advanced volume window, there's a category called "Wave Sound". You can adjust this one without interfering with Creative MediaSource volume.
    Hope it'll help...

  • Monitor point of Creative Media Sourc

I had Creative Media Source 2 before and when I transfer vinyl record using the cleanup feature, I was monitoring the sound after the cleanup process.
Therefore, I was able to compare the change in quality by listening to my Hi-Fi and my computer. Now, After upgrading to Media Source 5, my monitor point is now at the input line before the cleanup process. Anyone know how to change the software setting so I can monitor the audio after the cleanup before the actual recording is done?vinylrecord

Ok.... I tried many times to put the PlaysForSure "firmware" on my actual player (I have version .0.03). The problem is I can not figure out how to actually put the firmware onto my MP3 player. Can someone please help me with this as I am leaving for Iraq VERY soon and I need to get the MP3 player to be recognized by Creative 5 and Windows Vista (32-bit). Thanks in advance.
    BrianY wrote:
If you're new laptop is a Vista system, you won't have to load any software drivers for the Touch, but you'll have to update your Touch to PlaysForSure firmware since Creative doesn't do Vista drivers for the MP3 players. If your laptop is an XP system, and you're on V.x firmware, you'll need to load the drivers so that MediaSource can recognize the Touch.
