Creative MediaSource 5 stuck on "follow Mixer Settings" --????

I'm trying to record from my auxilliary source and I can't get the "source" setting off of "follow mixer settings."? That is the only source choice given--no mic choice, blue, green, etc. I can't change it. I was able to make this choice before but not now since I reopened MediaSource. What can I do about this?

I had the same trouble. Here's how I managed to do it:
There are multiple places in Windows and in the Soundblaster software to change the speaker settings. I don't know how they interact. I suppose that these settings track each other, at least they should. A few places where I found speaker settings:
Windows control panel - Sounds and audio devices. Can be accessed via Media player also.
Through the Soundblaster Surround mixer - speaker settings
Through the THX console.
I went through the THX console, since it allows a halfway detailed setup. Go to the speaker setings first, select whatever speaker setup you have. Should be something with a . in there, since you have a subwoofer. Then go the calibration tab. The speakers you have chosen should now be "acti've", not greyed out. There is a checkbox to enable a test sound. When you put your cursor in one of the speaker setting fields on the right pane, the test sound should go to that speaker and alternate between that speaker and the "reference" speaker. The subwoofer level should also be adjustable from there. It is actually a lot louder test sound to the sub in the THX console, compared to the surround mixer test sound. I have to crank my volume way up to hear the sub in the surround mixer.
Good luck!

  • Creative MediaSource question

    I have Creative MediaSource 5 (5.0.25) on my new laptop that runs Vista. My old XP-based laptop has version 3.30.35 My options in the older version of "Select Recording Source" include 3 choices in addition to Mixer. Version 5.0.25 only lists "Follow Mixer Settings." How can I get the other options on here? I used my old laptop to edit recordings I made to pull out the necessary parts as highlights. When I try that on my new laptop, I'm only recording what the laptop's microphone picks up in real time. I'm looking for the "S/PDIF In" option because that's what I used before.
    Manythanks for any help you can offer.

    There are two places.
    - View your PC Music Library content in MediaSource Organizer. At the top of the content panel, you should be able to see the Import button to allow you to import tracks to your PC Msuic Library.
    - View your MP3 player content in MediaSource Organizer. At the top of the content panel, you should be able to see the Import button to allow you to import tracks to your MP3 player.

  • Convert Problem using Creative MediaSource of Audig

    I have been following the instructions for coverting old tapes to mp3 files, but I have not had quite the success I wanted. Here's my problem: Everything records fine except instead of just the "Line In " transfer, I also get what the recorder picks up, such as my talking. Moreover, there is no "line in" only recording source as indicated in the instructions. You get choices, such as "what U hear," "microphone," "mp3/wav," and "analog mix" (line in, CD, etc). I have tried all these. No matter what I try to do, I still hear the outside sounds in my recording. I even took out the microphone from the jack, and I made sure I had the tape player connected to the "line-in" jack (not the microphone jack). Does anyone have suggestions?
    emprof

    I think I figured out the problem. I also have a Logitech camera attached to of my computer's usb2 ports. My guess is that it was the culprit responsible for recording the other sounds. I disconnected the camera. Now Creative MediaSource seems to be working when I use the analog mix option.

  • Creative Mediasource Pla

    When I click on the icon I get an error message that says <B>
    Creative MediaSource Player has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    </B>
    I deleted files and folders under "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\ Mediasource but it didn't fix the problem. The problem started this morning. I have been having a lot of problems with static in the sound on my MS Flight Simulator (FS2004) program so I updated my creative drivers online and this problem began. I tried uninstalling the new drivers and loading the old ones from my installation CD but that did not help. I ran the creative diagnostics and it says the SoundFont fails. Running the fix does not help. It still fails the test. I tried restoring defaults from the start menu and got an error message there also. Audio HQ, Surround Mixer, EAX console etc. nothing will execute.

    Yes, I know. Your wondering why I even ask then. But I just can't help wondering what the heck it is. I also asked tech support and requested screen shots of it--they sounded very interested. So now I am curious as to what they might say.

  • Problem with Creative MediaSource and Zen Ex

    Earlier today my Creative MediaSource software (the Organizer) stopped detecting my Zen Extra (60GB). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times.
    Everytime I try to open the MediaSource Organizer, I get the following:?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Creative MediaSource Player has encountered a problem and needs to close.[size="3" color="#0033ff">?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Error Signature: [size="3" color="#0033ff">AppName: ctcms.exe AppVer: 2.2.5.0 ModName: ctcms.exe
    [size="3" color="#0033ff">ModVer: 2.2.5.0 Offset: 00098c[size="">
    ?Can anyone help me? How can I get the Organizer working again and how can I get it to detect my player. I have installed the firmware and drivers on this site, but nothing is helping.

    Try deleting the .dat file(s) under "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\MediaSource". It may solve the MediaSource crashing problem. To detect your Zen Xtra, you need to install its plugin for MediaSource. You may install it from your product CD or get the latest from the Web download. Here is what you should do:?- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.- (Depending on your product and firmware)
    For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    or:
    For PlaysForSure Zen Xtra: Download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players.
    - If it is listed for your product: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • Creative Mediasource opens a strange win

    http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l2...angeWindow.jpg?When I open Creative Mediasource it does a strange thing and opens the window shown in the clipped screenshot of my desktop. Stranger still, the window has no handles, and will not respond to normal windows keyboard shortcut?(Alt + SpaceBar)?that would normally allow you to access the restore/minimise/maximise menu option. I am stuck with this window. I know for a fact that it is a window, because it behaves as a window in every other way. I can drag it around my desktop, in other words. Also, it reacts to the transparency settings given by my Graphics Card. Does anyone else share this problem, and would anyone be able to help troubleshoot this problem? I have used Creative Mediasource for?almost a year now, and I have finally decided to whip this little puppy into shape.

    If your MediaSource is older than v3.30.2, then?download and install MediaSource v3.30.2 from your product download site.

  • Creative Mediasource - Now Playing List on star

    I have been using Mediasource for quite a while though and loving it. However, I have one question about the Now Playing List on startup on the program. Originally when i installed the program (i have done this a few times so i know this to be true), the Now Playing list from when i last closed down the player was saved and used by the player the next time i opened it up.
    Now, mediasource is stuck on a Now Playing list i created about six months ago every time i open it, no matter what is in the now playing list when i close it. This is not a huge disadvantage as i can save playlists and open them up straight after mediasource opens but it is an issue on convenience.
    I was hoping someone knew a way to set it up so the now playing list i have open is kept intact for startup on closure of mediasource. I have fiddled a bit with closing the player with different skins, with the music stopped, playing, paused and with different options enabled but to no avail.
    I do however remember having this problem and then randomly one day the now playing list i had had been stored and still continues to remain at start up till this day. Though i cannot remember anything different i was doing that day. I think mediasource is toying with me :P
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try deleting the.dat file in "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\MediaSource".

  • Creative Mediasource Organizer Losing Year T

    I use Windows XP, Creative Mediasource Organizer version 3.30.35 and my player is a Zen MicroPhoto 8G. I have over 4000 MP3 files organized with id tags in Creative Mediasource Organizer. These are almost exclusivly?MP3 files that I recorded myself. Of the 4000 files?there are only a handful, just?one album that could possibly find tag information?to pull from the internet. Yesterday,?more than?200 of my mp3 files?had blank?year tags. I entered the correct year in several dozen of these so that only about 65 had blank year tags. Then I closed the software and turned of my computer. Today I opened Creative Mediasource Organizer to work on filling in those blank year tags. There were over 400 blank year tags today. What is happening? I have PC Music Library open. I select a single file, right click, click properties, click tag information, enter the year in the year field, click OK. Then I right click and select "update tag" click "yes" to confirm that I want the changes to apply to the file itself and not just to the PC Media Library. Please, someone help me understand why?the number of blank year tags is growing instead of shrinking? What can I do to retain the information I enter in these tags?

    YESTERDAY:?Monday March 2, 2007:?I edited my media library from within Creative MediaSource so that there are no files without a valid year in the year tag. For?each MP3 file the other standard tags also contain meaningful data. These are?title, artist, album and?genre,?but not track. I don't see any practical way to use the track field for some of these files, so not all of them have a track number. The files I want in my media library are all the MP3 and WMA files within C:/MP3 and it's subfolders. The properties of C:/MP3 as viewed from "My Computer" are 3922 files and 249 folders. About a dozen are WMA files and one is a text file. All the others are MP3 files. The problem is that?there are quite a number of duplicate entries. And the Media Library is reporting several hundred more files within C:/MP3?than "My Computer" is reporting there.
    I used "Tools/Settings/PC Media Library/ Delete invalid entries" but it did NOT remove the duplicate entries. Exiting the program and opening it again did not correct the count either. So I selected ALL the files, right clicked, and selected "update tags." I clicked YES to update the tag data from the media library to the files. When that operation was completed, I deleted all the files from the library but not from the computer. And?now I am?importing all the files within C:/MP3?back into the library. It says "now transferring 859 of 3920 files." This is good! 3920 is very close to 3922 minus the one text file. I want to see if, when this transfer is finished, I will have the correct number of MP3 files in my media library, and I want to see if the tag data, including the year data, remains?intact after this transfer. The transfer is complete. I do have 3920 files in my media library now and the data in the id tags appears to be intact. Hopefully, this will still be the case when I open the software tomorrow. THE NEXT DAY:?Tuesday, March 3, 2007: Grrr! I now have 3950 files in my media library where it should be only 3920. I did not add anything ?or make any edits. Exactly 30 of these entries?have blank year fields. I'm thinking that Creative MediaSource is NOT?loosing the data in year tags as I first thought, rather it's ADDING entries that are identical to existing entries except that the year fields in the added entries are empty. I think that if I enter the correct year data, I will end up with 30 entries that are truly exact duplicates. I don't see a pattern or clue to tell me why these 30 and not the others ... they have different artists, different albums, genres and the data in the missing year fields was not all the same. In the track fields, a few are blank, but most of them have data. "Tools/Settings/PC Music Library/Clean up now" did not elimiinate these 30 extra entries. Looking at the properties of C:/MP3 from "My Computer" still shows 3922 files (one is a text file) ... From my experiments yesterday, I am pretty sure that I can delete these 30 extra entries and be left with valid entries for all my files. This is frustrating. I'm hoping that these observations will be helpful to a programmer working on the next version of Creative MediaSource. I would send these comments directly to them, but they don't seem to provide a way for me to do that.

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

    When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
    Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
    In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
    . Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
    (they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
    called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
    NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
    Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
    Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
    the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
    Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
    Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
    Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
    this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
    will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
    Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
    help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
    firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
    these steps, as soon as possible.
    For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    "Get Creative"
    I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
    I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
    Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
    I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
    Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • Creative MediaSource Organizer Alternati

    Ok, so I have a Zen Vision M, and I can't figure out a way to listen to the songs that are on my mp3 player through my computer. The only way I've seen that even offers me the ability to do this is through MediaSource Organizer, and that quite frankly is terrible. Everytime I want to find a song I have to find the artist folder, then find the album folder, then find the song. I can't stand it. I'm the type of guy that is looking for a song, not an artist. I can't figure out a way for it to have all the songs on my mp3 player to come up in like an "All Tracks" list or anything - I'm stuck having to go through 3 different folders everytime I want to hear a single song. Now, is there any way that I can listen to my songs on my computer without using this player? I'd prefer to use Windows Media Player since I'm most familiar with that, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how the hell to play the songs, only sync them. I definitely don't want to have to upload everything from my player back onto my computer in order to listen to it. If by some chance the ONLY thing that allows me to play the songs on my mp3 player through my computer is Creative MediaSource...then can someone please tell me how I can set it so that it just pops up with "All Tracks" in alphabetical order or something? This is killing me. Thanks guys.

    I've also been looking for an alternati've to MediaSource. It used to be a good program, but the whole MTP Playforsure crap ruined everything.. I really wish I had not upgraded my Zen Xtra.
    Its makes the performance really slow and brings in way too many limitations.
    I mean it takes nearly 4 mins to get MediaSource to display all the files on my Zen Xtra, and Vision M, that's just unacceptable. Before I upgraded the firmware it only took a couple seconds. And I was able to sort the music by artist, Genre, album, and the using the search feature brought back results instantly.
    I know that Playforsure support was a major request for some users, but I wonder if they knew that things would wind up like this! Becuase this decrease of performance and loss of functionlity, was not advertised in there description of the new firmware!
    And its not fair that I wasn't even given a choice with the Zen Vision M!
    I used to have an MPIO HD300 and a iAudio X5. Both of the players were both MTP I think, but they showed up as a dri've letter in Windows and any music program could access the files. I wish Creative would take a hint from that.

  • Creative Mediasource

    Hey
    How Come original users--Audigy 2 Platinum etc users, are stuck using Creative MediaSource .0, when Audigy 2 ZS users have Access to Mediasource 2, this is so unfair from Creative, I like that program, but I guess Creative doesn't feel us original Audigy 2 USers need updated software at all.

    Anyone have some input on this question? but if no replies I guess not
    Overall I'm happy with my Audigy 2 Platinum..just wish updated software was provided,and then I'd be perfectly happy. My last soundcard was SB Li've value--and used for over 5 years, and I was so glad that one that the li'veupdate pack or whatever it was called, when I got this Audigy 2 Platinum, I was so happy, but for a while there I was having driver/software issues, those are all resolved now.

  • Creative MediaSource 3.30 on SB Audigy 1 possib

    I noticed in the downloads section for SB Audigy that the Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer v3.30.2 program is now available for download for SB Audigy () users.
    I own an SB Audigy (Digital Entertainment edition).
    I've installed the latest drivers for it in Windows XP (except the newest beta driver which I haven't tried).
    I downloaded the 52Mb Creative Mediasource 3.30 program and tried installing it.
    However, upon finishing extracting files, the application will tell me "not able to find audio device" or something, it suggests me to retry or cancel. Clicking "retry" will show "searching for installed components" and then pop up the same error message. Clicking "cancel"... well, cancels the installation.
    So it seems that I'm unable to try out this MediaSource program for my SB Audigy .
    Is there some way to make MediaSource install on my SB Audigy ? I'd like to see what this MediaSource is really all about (like playing music files with EAX Advanced HD, etc).
    (maybe it's possible to edit some configuration settings file prior to running the installation setup.exe so that the app will install?)
    Thanks to anyone who has successfully done that.

    R.U. lazy? Why can't you try it by yourself.
    Well, I tried it. But it pops out a message saying my system doesn't have the proper components (some such thing -- I'll try to get the exact message next time)...
    I have an SB Audigy card properly installed with the latest drivers (and functioning without problems).
    As for nvidiot's suggestion to run the setup.exe program. I believe I also tried that method and it showed up the same error message (sorry, will jot down the message next time).
    However, I'm interested in this "ctcomp" utility you mentioned that can patch the setup files. How is the ctcomp used? (I recall having an experience with a pre-patched Audigy2 drivers quite some time back. It already had a prepatched ctcomp.dat or some similar thing which allowed the Audigy2 sound driver to install on Audigy sound card.)
    So I surmise this method might work (assuming the Creative MediaSource relies on the same identification mechanism).
    ~~~~~~~~
    (edited/added)
    Ok, I've finally gotten this thing to install. I probably wasn't running the correct setup.exe program as mentioned above. I went to the SETUP\SETUP directory and run the SETUP.EXE there. The CMS program started to install and after a few minutes of hard disk activity, the setup program told me to restart the system, after which the Creative MediaSource program is installed. (no need for the ctcomp thing)
    Thanks to all that helped me here.Message Edited by dta on 0-08-2006 03:3 AM
  • Please assist with Creative MediaSource installat
    I'm installing the Creative MediaSource software for my new NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB and I've been given the option of installing any or all of the following components:
    - Creative MediaSource Nomad 2/3/Zen Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Jukebox Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource MuVo Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource II / MG Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Player Skin Pack
    It seems to me that some of these are unnecessary in my case. Can anyone suggest which of those options are necessary for proper use with my player?
    Thanks for the guidance!
    Those plugins are there only if you have any of the other players listed so that Creative Mediasource will recognize them when they are being plugged into your computer. But you still probably need to install their drivers. As long as you have the drivers to recognize your Xtra in Windows, then Creative Mediasource should have no problem syncing with your Xtra.
    Hi Gilad,
    If you switched from a .x firmware to a 2.x firmware, you will need some software updates aswell so your applications can communite with the new firmware.
    You can find them in the Download section aswell. For MediaSource for instance, the file you need is:
    Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) (<FONT color=#222222 size=><B>23.98 MB</B>)
    Filename: CMS_PCMTP_LB__00_8.exe
