Creative MediaSource/Search for Freew

Didn't see a software section, but figure a lot of us would have this beaut of an app included with their player, and wondered if anyone acually used it. I assume most of you ignored this app as all of its features come stock with a new PC, and you made a good choice; as it is indeed put to shame by programs available fi've years ago. However, I was intrigued by its "file conversion" software, which as the 'quick-start guide' for my player claimed, could "encode [music] into the supported formats."
Little did I know, you can only convert into the supported formats if the music file originally is...wait for it...in a supported format. Awesome. Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.
So, I began my search of the interweb looking for a free m4a -> mp3/whatever it supports converter.
I learned two things:
) Freeware is a myth - unlike a few years ago, you can no longer find that little piece of software to make your day that much easier. 3 MB program to convert some files? 30 bucks please.
2)Shareware is a misnomer; Teaseware would be more applicable.
So I vent my frustration here, and with a few choice letters to those I deem responsible for my problems.
Anyone know where I can get a (free) music file converter? Hell, I don't care if it it's in German or plays Britney Spears at my speakers loudest setting while it converts.Message Edited by JWBooth on 2-26-2005 0:22 AM

Hi
I found a music blog site recently with lots of links to downloadable music but some of it was in m4a format so I had to seek out a converter like you. I downloaded a couple only to find that the freeware version was too restricted.
I ended up with Xilisoft Audio Converter - the freeware version only allows you to convert 5 files at a time but that wasn't a problem for me. You don't have to shut the program down in between just convert them in batches of 5.
When installed there is a ReadMe file with a FAQ that gives pointers on where to go to find other software such as conversion of iTunes songs.

  • Creative Mediasource update for

Currently have Mediasource 2.0 at work and also have SP on it. The update to 3.0 only works for SP2. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get an update for this situation?
PCs here at work must remain on SP.
    Cheers

Yes, for Windows XP SP. I had Mediasource 2.0 on and tried to upgrade via the download site here to 3.0. But after it extracted al the files, it started to install but then froze, and nothing! I deleted 2.0 and tried again, same thing. Keeps on freezing at initial installation.

  • Creative Mediasource for Creative Zen (2-38

    Hey everyone,
I am well aware that the current version of Creative Mediasource is not available for the Creative Zen. Now I figured that eventually they would make a version compatible with the Zen. I'm currently up to my 3rd Generation of Creative Mp3 players (from Zen Touch to Zen Vision: M to Zen 32 gb ), and I constantly used Creative Mediasource to edit the track information, usually the genres which awere so totally confused (Hip Hop should never be associated with Country :S). However, now that the Zen operates through Windows Media Explorer, instead of being able to select whole cds and right clicking them to 'edit genre', I now have to individually select each song and rewrite the details.. this could be a problem in the near future; I just got my mp3 player last tuesday, and though right now i'll manage, my media database is a little off in terms of assortment, and editing 600 tracks manually seems to be a rather tedious task >.< So, my question is(are):
When (if they ever decide to do so) will a Creative mediasource version for the Creative Zen be released?
Is there a faster method that I'm unaware of to edit the tracks?
I did take the time to look through the forums before I wrote this, taking the precautions by searching for Creative Mediasource, Creative Mediasource Zen flash, etc. Thanks in advance!

Well, I usually avoid Windows Media Player because the computer I use is also used by the rest of the family, and every once in a while it chooses to autosync music onto my Zen.. but if you say it's useful to edit multiple ID3 Tags (so that's the official name for them, oh..), i'll give it another try. And I'll try MediaMonkey too, because it sounds like the program was made specifically to make ID3 tag updating easier.
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Should I install "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSourc

I have the Play For Sure firmware on my Zen Touch, now I'm going to first install the driver on my computer, then install the creative media source, then the play for sure software suite, and then the media source CD plugin. Should I also install the Zen & Nomad Jukebox plugin afterward or that's only for ppl who haven't upgraded the firmware?
    Thanks!

The "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource" is for those who have the non-PlaysForSure firmware. So, you do not need to install it.

  • Creative mediasource and Burning Di

I got Creative Mediasource with my Creative Nomad MuVo2 Player. I have "auto upgraded" the software and the plugins through the site.
There doesn't seem to be any burn option, although the help file tells how to do it.
I know that there are better burning programs out there, I have Nero, but thought that it might be convenient to burn from Mediasource.
Anyone know why I can't burn with my version (latest upgrade as well)?

Do the update manually. Here is what you should do:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.
    - For NOMAD MuVo series: Download and install the latest Creative MuVo series plugin .0.05 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • Please assist with Creative MediaSource installat

I'm installing the Creative MediaSource software for my new NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB and I've been given the option of installing any or all of the following components:
    - Creative MediaSource Nomad 2/3/Zen Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Jukebox Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource MuVo Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource II / MG Plugin
    - Creative MediaSource Player Skin Pack
It seems to me that some of these are unnecessary in my case. Can anyone suggest which of those options are necessary for proper use with my player?
    Thanks for the guidance!

Those plugins are there only if you have any of the other players listed so that Creative Mediasource will recognize them when they are being plugged into your computer. But you still probably need to install their drivers. As long as you have the drivers to recognize your Xtra in Windows, then Creative Mediasource should have no problem syncing with your Xtra.

    Hi Gilad,
If you switched from a .x firmware to a 2.x firmware, you will need some software updates aswell so your applications can communite with the new firmware.
You can find them in the Download section aswell. For MediaSource for instance, the file you need is:

  • Problem with Creative MediaSource and Zen Ex

Earlier today my Creative MediaSource software (the Organizer) stopped detecting my Zen Extra (60GB). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times.
Everytime I try to open the MediaSource Organizer, I get the following:?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Creative MediaSource Player has encountered a problem and needs to close.[size="3" color="#0033ff">?[size="3" color="#0033ff">Error Signature: [size="3" color="#0033ff">AppName: ctcms.exe AppVer: 2.2.5.0 ModName: ctcms.exe

?Can anyone help me? How can I get the Organizer working again and how can I get it to detect my player. I have installed the firmware and drivers on this site, but nothing is helping.

Try deleting the .dat file(s) under "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\MediaSource". It may solve the MediaSource crashing problem. To detect your Zen Xtra, you need to install its plugin for MediaSource. You may install it from your product CD or get the latest from the Web download. Here is what you should do:?- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.- (Depending on your product and firmware)
For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    or:
For PlaysForSure Zen Xtra: Download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players.
    - If it is listed for your product: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • Creative MediaSource doesn't have the Burn opt

I recently bought a new Dell desktop. And with it came Creative MeadiaSource. I went to burn a CD and there wasn't that option. So I looked under the Help to make sure you could, well it shows a picture of a CD with a little flame and it says Burn. Is there a way to get my MediaSource to have the burn option?
    <IMG src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/f392/xdarkxcloudx/CMSToolbar.jpg">

I don't know what player you have but you can get the CD Burner plugin from the downloads page for most of the Creative players such as Muvo Micro or Zen Micro.
Go to Support->Downloads and choose your player or one of the ones I've listed.
When you get to the downloads page look for Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8
If you haven't got a new enough version of MediaSource you can get that there as well.

  • Creative MediaSource 5 Player does not recognize my Zen

    Hello,
I have the Creative MediaSource 5 player and never had this problem before, but now it does not recognize or connect with my Zen V player. I do not know what is going on. Everytime I connect my Zen now I get a window giving me choices of players to use with my Zen and the Creative player is not longer in this list... I have not made any changes.
    Help.... Anyone :robotsad:
    Thanks,
    kanela.

    Jezuz,
If you have update the player firmware to the PlayForSure firmware version, you will need to also update your copy of the Media Explorer to the version that can support it. Go back to the download page where you download the firmware and look for "Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update" and "Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)".

  • Creative MediaSource and Zen file l

When I attach my Zen Micro to the PC and open Creative MediaSoure the album list for the Zen is not complete. It displays only about 70% of the albums that are on the Zen. The Zen plays perfectly. Do I need to do something to make sure I get the complete list displayed?

  • Zen Micro is detected by Creative MediaSource Organizer or Windows Media Pla

<SPAN>Well, I have read through a good part of the message forum and have found nothing to help my case and I believe, truly believe that I have tried everything!

    <SPAN>Can someone please offer suggestions?
    <SPAN>Thanks

Strange that WMP doesn't detect it, presumably you have v0? Worth checking the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post and installing the hot fixes.
Also make sure you have the latest software with MTP updates, by downloading and installing the following:
    . Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    2. Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices
    3. Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update
Before installing connect the player to the PC. Then install 2 and 3 (the player must be connected for to verify you have a Creative product).
