From what I can make out, it\'s basic function is to help prevent your machine from interfering with other electronic devices (such as TVs, Radios etc.)
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link.
It does say in there that it does tend to mess up the clock. Also why doesn't the VIA boards have this option?

  • Creative MuVo V100 2GB - USB 1.1 only!

I recently purchased a 2GB MuVo V00 player in the US. Although both Creative's website and the retail box claim it had USB 2.0 connectivity, when connected to my laptop (which is USB 2.0 enabled) it showed the speed of USB ., which is times slower! It take over hour to fill it up with songs or files. How can it be that a reputable company has false specifications claims everywhere on this product!

Hello everyoneHere's the message I just sent to Catherina about this lie on the V00 (usb 2.0)in red i put a new comment that is not in the original mail?Hello CatherinaI'm a happy user of the Creative Muvo N200 and I decided to buy a Muvo V00 2go to my girl friend ... but .... what a sad surprise when I saw the speed of the V00.
Don't lie to me, I saw all the posts on the Internet about this issue with NO answer of Creative [color="#ff0000"](except saying : "it's probably a computer problem, look at?your driver" and else?... I'm not a beginner on computers and I've got a? TX 52, Muvo N200 go, Muvo V200 256mo and I HAD NO PROBLEM AT ALL WITH THEM on HP and Toshiba laptops except this V00!!!)
I think, as a represtentati've of Creative, you have to answer to everyone clearly about this factIf V00 is USB2 as Creative says, transfer must be quicker. For the same folder size (00mb for ex) it takes about 4.5x much more time to copy on a V00 than a V200 or N200.
That is really UNACCEPTABLELast thing, I don't see on the support the V00 product choice (only the v200). Why ?Thanx for your time and your answer to me and all the customersSincerely,M. PireddaMessage Edited by spiredda on 2-0-200708:49 AM

  • Macbook Pro and Thunderbolt USB problem

I have read a few threads regarding problems with the Thunderbolt displays and Macbook Airs. None of the suggestions in there work for me including doing an SMC Reset.
Here is my problem. I have a brand new Macbook Pro 17", 2.5Ghz Core i7,  8gb ram, 750Gb HD etc., new Thunderbolt display. Running OS X Lion 10.7.3.
In the back of my display I have plugged in a USB mouse from Logitech, an Apple full size keyboard and my wired ethernet connection. The monitor and peripherals stay at work and I take the Macbook Pro home every night. If I do not follow a certain sequence every morning, my computer freezes. I put the power connector in first, open the lid, wait for the screen on the laptop to show the login prompt, login and then and only then can I plug in my Thunderbolt connector. Once I do this, my second screen lights up and my mouse, keyboard and ethernet connection works. But if I plug in the Thunderbolt first before power up or if I plug it in before logging in, then I have a high probabilty that the USB hub on the back of the monitor will stop working altogether. Then I have to move my mouse and keyboard over to the laptop and everything works great (my ethernet keeps working fine though). My mouse scroll for whatever reason goes into high gear and starts scrolling much faster and I have to slow it down.
Now, this works 90% of the time. But there are days, like today, where this process does not work. And when it doesn't, either I have to move the USB devices over or like today, the machine freezes and no longer responds to any input. It appears to still be working as the screen updates but I can never regain control of it via any keyboard or mouse.
My co-worker has the exact same setup and exact same problem. We also have 10 Thunderbolt displays here (all new) and same problem with ANY I choose. So this is not a hardware issue. Something is wrong with the driver code for some device. And my co-worker has an Apple mouse so that's not the issue either. If this can help Apple with debugging, here is another interesting tid bit. 3 weeks ago, I had a non Thunderbolt display. And for 6 months with an older laptop, I had issues with it's USB hub. Same kind of problem. Some days, the USB hub in the monitor would work and others it would go dead until a reboot was performed.
I think a driver needs some fixing somewhere.
    Thanks,
    EJK

For the past 3 days I have had no issues after trying something different. After reading btully's post, what I decided to do is power off the Thunderbolt display every morning before I plug my laptop in and so far this seems to work. 3 days is not a data point but perhaps if others try too for a bit, we can see if this solves the issue for some of us. I will keep you all posted and see if this continues to work.
One thing to note as well, is that if I power off the Thunderbolt display while logged in and do not retract the plug first, the system hangs often. I am not sure if I am imagining this as I think once you power off the display it must be just like pulling the cable out no??
Anyways, one thing is clear, there is a problem somewhere with either Thunderbolt display firmware or Mac OS X drivers.

    Hi Damon,

  • Ubisoft Games with nForce1/nForce2 Sound Problems, Solved...

You play a Ubisoft game like Prince od Persia: Sands of Time or Far Cry (this one is a Must ) and suddenly you loose gun fire and half of the sounds of the game?.... this is a problem with all ubisoft games and the nForce based boards which is up the scene a long long time now   Many people believed that this was a problem of the board's Southbridge overheating...but it is NOT!!!... It appeared strangely only in Ubisoft Games when nForce1/2 hardware Sound Acceleration was used....
ALL THIS IS OVER NOW ...
DOWNLOAD THE NEW v4.31 FORCEWARE AUDIO DRIVER AND PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!...
    Patience Pays off,
nforce Soundstorm is the best integrated sound solution there is todays and one of the best in general, featuring unique capabilities like Dolby Digital On The Fly Media Encoder (dolby digital 5.1 channel transition from any stereo 2-channel media source) and unique quality (considered best choice when listening 3D Audio with headphones) and over the years it has become today an almost bugfree and stable product supported now by almost all game developers.
The feature for Soundstorm nForce Audio appears very bright. It competes equally with big names in PC Audio like Creative and is a much cheaper sound solution
    Long Live Soundstorm!!\

  • B85M-P33 USB problem SOLVED

Solved this problem by updating bios from v 4.1 to 4.3
Brand new rig that I built and installed with Win 7.
Everything seemed fine until I installed chipset drivers and left for a cup of coffee.
When I got back the computer didnt wake up when I clicked the mouse or pressed any key on the keyboard.
So I pressed the power button and it came to life, still not responding to mouse or keyboard input.
No light coming from keyboard or optics on mouse.
I rebooted the system a couple of times and moved the mouse and keyboard around trying all USB-ports without
the computer ever finding them again. I got the same result with a USB-stick so the mobo is simply not listening to any USB-ports.
Even tried the PS2 ports and the optic on mouse lights up but wont respond.
I have never had this happen to me before and Im thinking I should fiddle around in bios trying to find some answers before I
reinstall the OS. Both mouse and keyboard work in bios.
In the meantime maybe someone here has any idea of what might be happening?

Is this what you meant, Penguin?
    Yes that's what he meant.
Don't think it can be a problem with groups, others than that you can perhaps have a mistype in the fstab line (e.g. wrote 'users' instead of 'user')
    You actually mount using
    mount /mnt/stick
    because when you use
    mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/stick
/etc/fstab will not be used, and so you'll not be able to mount as user

  • Mounting and Unmounting USB drives [Solved]

    HI there:
I want a program like in KDE that will automaticly mount and allow me to click to unmount my usb drives. I am building machines and I need them to be user friendly and fast. I am running openbox 3.5 with a lxpanel right now. Also how do you allow users to access the usb drives. Here is an example of an error. I am logged in as usera. I fire up shotwell plug in my camera. It detects it I click on the camera and it says
    "Shotwell
Unable to fetch previews from the camera:
    I/O problem (-7)"
I log in as root it works perfectly. I hope this all makes sense.

    How do you start openbox?
I am using startx with this ~/.xinitrc
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox-session
    and it works well.
    Have a look here.
Nice!  I just installed Xfce on my new netbook (I use awesome WM and a different automounting solution for my other Arch box) and adding "dbus-launch" right before "startxfce4" on the line that reads:
    "exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch startxfce4"
    fixed my problem.
I'm a little confused though, in the wiki it says that, "In case you are wondering, dbus-launch will be launched by the xinitrc.d code at the beginning of the file...."  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xfce
My .xinitrc is functionally the same as the example in the wiki, so I had thought that somehow dbus-launch wouldn't be necessary.  Oh well, it's working now and that's all that matters, thanks for your suggestion AliWam!

  • K7n2g-lisr and front usb problem

Got a strange one here, I have a multi slot card reader plugged into front usb header and the problem is after
each and every reboot i have to unplug and replug the connection to the header so that my card reader works? Now that may not sound like a huge problem but i would like to be able to keep the case on! and not a big fan of plugging things in and out of a running motherboard! Also yes the one pin wire was cut, that is how i got it work in the first place. Any ideas?
    Thanks Ron

I think Rede2go is aware of that, osnavi. I assume it´s unplugging and replugging the usb cable from and to the JUSB2 header on the mobo that is the cause of frustration here. I have found USB2 equipment to cause a majority of all the problems with socket A motherboards. It should be pointed out, though, that NF2 based mobos are relatively trouble free in this aspect, compared to VIA based mobos. Never the less all kind of strange things happen with USB2 equipment on these mobos to. On my ABIT based system I lose the multi card reader every now and then. It happens rarely, but when it happens, nothing else helps than rebooting the system. I think we have to accept that this is not a USB2 fault, it´s a feature

  • New Infinity and BT Vision problem solved - thanks...

Not a problem or a complaint this time, but a pat on the back for BT.
I received my new BT Infinity service today, the engineers were on time, professional and quick.  After my Infinity service was active however I noticed I was getting a lot of V04 errors on BT Vision On Demand stuff.  I checked the line speed, and all seemed to be great, I am getting over 42meg!! So why the V04??  I called BT support and spoke to a lovely lady who seemed to know exactly what I was talking about, and she had the problem sussed out and fixed in about two minutes.
It turns out the problem was due to a QoS setting on my profile.  Over the last 18 months or so I had several times that my old ADSL broadband line speed would just dissappear to almost nothing, each time the BT support staff would push up the QoS in order to try and provide a good enough line speed for the BT vision to work.  This setting was never fixed when my new Infinity connection was setup and it was causing problems, hence the V04.  Problem appears to be fixed now, thanks for the quick resultion BT.

One thing on powerline adaptors (picked up from a comment by another poster on the forum at some point).
Powerline adaptors should never be used on power surge controlled extensions.
Where possible, they should not be used on extensions.
They should not be plugged into the one half of a twin socket with a surge controlled extension in the other half.
Most people know the first two, but maybe not the third ~ I didn't till I saw that other post.  It is quite natural to have all your computer equipment plugged into a surge controlled extension with the powerline plugged in conveniently next to it.  When I read the other post I changed mine around; because of the layout I had to break rule 2 to do it and temporarily use a long mains extension for the powerline, but it still very considerably imporoved the powerline performance.
That said, the performance I was seeing even with the problem wasn't bad enough to stop streaming working.
They say that because it can hinder the performance, as some surge protectors destroy signal but some are fine.

  • 10.4.8 and Cisco/VPN problem solved

    Hi,
This and related issues have arisen in threads on the past month, regarding the Cisco VPN v 4.9005 (and perhaps other VPN software) not working the same after the 10.4.8 upgrade. The problems relate to either not making a VPN connection, or data transfer after the successful connection is made, once the upgrade happened.
The workaround was to run the Network Setup Assistant every time to do the connection properly before launching the VPN. But this is a pain.
The eventual solution was simple, although effecting it was not straightforward. It was necessary to do a clean install of the VPN client. This is something that I could not accomplish manually, despite suggestions from the discussion group as to which files to remove, because it was difficult to find all the files that the install put it. But, at least on my machines, it could be done by command line in Terminal - cd to /usr/local/bin, ls vpn_uninstall to see if it is there, and if so, sudo ./vpn_uninstall.
I don't know if other machines can do this or if this was part of our local IT install, but IT WORKED. I AM FREE!
    Wayne

    that's odd....
I'm running cisco client 4.6.04 on OS X 10.4.8 and VNC without any problems...
the only difference is my radius server is an NT box, but I can AFP and VNC to my Mac on that network.

  • Soft subtitles in movies and Front Row problem solved

    Hi,
Sorry for this long post but I hope this will help other users of Front Row.
This is how I create a testmovie.mov file from an DVD, TS_FOLDER or other source and the subtitles (soft) will work in Front Row, Quicktime, iTunes, without Perian or other special plugin. In my case the subtitle is NOT burn into the video. It is a track in the testmovie.mov file.
Also I use Elgato turbo h.264 HD to speed up coding. Not necessary.
    1. Create a .m4v movie file (h.264 codec)
In my case I start the application that comes with Elgato turbo h.264 HD device, called Turbo.264.HD
    2. Drop the DVD, TS_FOLDER or other video to convert, onto Turbo.264.HD application or other video converting application.
    3. Click on the little "i" info symbol and the select Audio. The source maybe contains different languages. Click OK.
    4. Select Format. In my case "Apple TV" format (I will use this video on my Mac Mini). Click Start. After a while the video is finished. In this example I call it testmovie.m4v
    5. Download subtitles from Internet. Google: subtitles download
    6. Open the testmovie.m4v in RoadMovie application. This application works for me, but there may be others. http://www.bitfield.se/roadmovie
    7. In RoadMovie, click on Subtitles button and then open the downloaded subtitle file. In this example called testmovie.srt Also, click on the "little eye" Preview. In this view you can adjust the time offset for the subtitle to sync with the video.
    8. In RoadMovie select "Export for: Flattened". This will create a testmovie.mov file with a new subtitle track in it, without ecoding the video.
    9. Open testmovie.mov in, in my case, Quicktime Pro and the select Show Movie Properties.
    10. Select the video track and set the Transparency to Composition. Layer 0
    11. Select the subtitle track and set Transparency to Straight Alpha. Layer 0
    12. Save changes and close Quicktime Pro
    13. Move the testmovie.mov to Movies folder
    14. Start Front Row and select Movies->Movies Folder->testmovie.mov
    Voila!
    /rob

So, as far as I can tell, it's a one-or-the-other situation. Either Front Row doesn't display subtitles (actually, no video at all), or it does (with this workaround). Can't seem to toggle them. If anyone knows of a better way...
So, good job in finding a (multi-step, multi-application, convoluted) way to get this to work, but I'd hardly call this "solved." Don't get me wrong, I'd have never figured this out in a million years. Just...not quite ideal, is it?
I gave Plex a spin, and while it does offer the ability, in theory, to toggle subtitles, I haven't been able to get it to work, either with with this trick or without. I can't believe this is so hard to get right...Apple, if you're listening, there are people who use Front Row. Keep working on it! How about using that middle button of the remote for bringing up an options menu for the currently playing track, rather than duplicating the play/pause button?
Sorry, just frustrated; I finally got a Mac Mini for hooking up to the TV, and now I'm discovering how hard this is.

  • Gaming and window compositing problems [SOLVED]

    Greetings,
I suffer from frame rate problems when compositing is enabled while playing games.
On this computer, they worked side by side without too many problems when I used KDE (the desktop effects were not automatically disabled by KDE either).
Now I use Xfce and have enjoyed it so far except for the problem mentioned earlier.
I have a NVIDIA graphics card and tried some ideas out at this article but with no luck so far.
I remember changing KDE's texture filter to "nearest" and I think that helped but I am not completely sure.
Are there some settings in Xfce or NVIDIA I should change? Or should I do something else all together?

I have an idea that I will be researching around for more information on.
In KDE, I remember that Opengl was used in a setting instead of NVIDIA's X Rendering (or was it direct rendering...).
With my minor knowledge of graphics cards and rendering, I came up with this:
Opengl's memory management was used in KDE, so it explains how my computer was able to handle both compositing and graphic intensive games. And that X Rendering is not good  at(or has any ability)  managing memory. So I must find a way for NVIDIA to only use Opengl.
Please correct me if I am making the wrong conclusion!
EDIT: Looking at the NVIDIA server settings again, it looks like it already uses Opengl.
Reading more from many forums, it looks like Xfce's compositing uses EXA for rendering confusing the situation just a little more.

    Symptons:
    Screen Tearing
    Desktop Effects not completely working
    What changed:
Suddenly, seems all of the Desktop Effects started working proplerly.
    What I did:
    hwd -xa
    nvidia-xconfig
    Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Changed Depth from 16 to 24
Added my "1680x1050" to Mode lines

    Systems Settings, Desktop:
         Enable Desktop Effects checked
         Advanced Options Button:

              OpenGL mode: Texture From Pixmap
              Texture filter: Bilinear
              Direct rendering checked
              Use VSync unchecked
         All Effects Tab:
              Items checked are as follows:
              Track Mouse
              Zoom
              Dialog Parent
              Login
              Logout
              Minimize Animation
              Present Windows
              Scale In
              Shadow
              Desktop Grid
              Flip Switch
Note: these are different from the defaults
My only guess is that turning off the Fade effect allowed other effects to start working properly.  Weird thing is I didn't manually select Track Mouse or Zoom.
It might be possible that I clicked things in just the right order this time.
Items that work now that used not to:
    Explosion
    Fall Apart
    Snow
    Wobbly Windows
    Flip Switch
    NVidia drivers installed:
    dave@dellazoid ~  $  yaourt -Ss nvidia | grep installed

    extra/nvidia-utils 173.14.12-1 [installed]
    extra/nvclock 0.8b3-2 [installed]
    See the results here:
    http://webpages.charter.net/leutzdave/M … Switch.jpg
    IMPORTANT Additional Note:
Noticed that running a diff on current xorg.conf against old backup copies shows that the change
    From:     Depth 16
    To:         Depth 24
is the more likely cause of things working now.
At some time long ago, evidently, I redid the xorg configuration and missed that one item.
