This is part of the message since you cannot post such a long message in posting.
This should show how lost you might be with your warranty. If you install the Firmware Upgrade .8.02 your player might be useless. There is no way to make it work again. Not really. If you understand what Creative seems not to do. So dear user - buy a new player. If you want to know what the solution is to make your player work again post here. If there are enough postings I will explain it here. Too sad that Creative does not do it. It is their job not mine... But again - I am not talking about a problem what is nice to have it solved. I am talking about a player that does not work anymore. If you do not want to wait for my solution just send your player for repair - it was not your fault that it does not work anymore...
This story with the great support was a test of Creative and will be used in a review. So be not surprised to find it somewhere else.
Here the Creative support story. The first mail is at the bottom. I had to make part and part 2 since you cannot post such a long message here.
To: Creative Labs Asia Customer Support <[email protected]][email protected]>Subject: Re: CLA (CTL) - Technical Support Request - (MuVo TX FM) (KMM7755874I6636L0KM)Dear,I know the solution long time already. I just wanted to test the support at Creative. The problem is real and forces owners of your players to buy a new one since their playes get useless after the upgrade. Not only that Creative puts a faulty upgrade on their homepage - their support is good for nothing. But this was a test of the Creative support. I hardly can believe that Creative is not in the position to solve a very simple problem caused by Creative - what has severe consequences for their customers. But this mail story confirms exactly this. So my advice to any customers - stay away from this company and their products - what is the final result of my test. If you want to know the solution for the problem please contact me again - I am glad to help such a poor company :-)))) For free? I am not so sure...since my player was not for free too...Best Regards,PeterPS: The product is still within the "police period" of my dealer. And I did not just buy the product. I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

• Windows 7 upgrade: discs will include the option for a 32 to 64-bit upgrade via a clean install?

I would like to know whether the Lenovo Windows 7 upgrade discs will include the option for a 32 to 64-bit upgrade via a clean install?  I called Mentor today and was told the answer is no, but I was hoping someone here could tell me differently.
If "no" is truly the answer, I would like to voice my complaint: The upgrade discs from Microsoft (i.e. the retail upgrade discs) include both the 32 and 64-bit versions, so I don't completely understand why Lenovo's upgrade program doesn't offer the same thing.  I purchased my T500 in August, and back then Vista Ultimate 64 was not offered, so I chose Vista Ultimate 32 thinking that I could later upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 64.  This assumption was based off of the info. on Microsoft's website indicating that all upgrades would contain the 32 and 64-bit versions.  I even customized my computer with 4 gigs of RAM thinking that I could take advantage of the extra gig once I installed Windows 7 64.
I don't understand what Lenovo or Mentor Media have to gain by restricting a 32 to 64-bit install.  I voiced this opinion to Mentor Media over the phone, who responded by saying that I should be happy since I am receiving a "free" upgrade.  I don't think this is an accurate assessment for two reasons: (1) I had to pay $17.03 for shipping, and I still haven't received the upgrade and (2) The total cost of my computer was almost $3,000, and the purchase was made a mere few weeks before Windows 7 was released.  $3,000 is a lot of money.  I waited for the details of the Windows 7 Upgrade Program to be announced BEFORE purchasing my machine.  When I finally bought my computer I accounted Windows 7 into the price I was paying.  In addition, when I bought this computer I did so expecting good customer service as a given.  Not providing a 64-bit upgrade without a rational explanation as to why does not qualify as appropriate customer service.
As most of you know, 4 gigs of RAM is useless with a 32-bit OS.  Also, NOW Lenovo is building new T500s with the option of having Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (why wasn't Vista Ultimate 64 offered when I bought my computer???).  And the price for choosing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 is EQUAL to the price for choosing Windows 7 Ultimate 64, which proves that there is no cost difference.  I just want to know what Lenovo has to gain by denying customers a 64-bit upgrade?  There would really be no additional cost since as I mentioned before, Microsoft's retail upgrade includes the 32 and 64-bit OS on one disc.  If anything I would think that it's costing Lenovo money to strip the 64-bit install from the upgrade discs.
Can anyone please address my problems?  Do you think there is anyone at Lenovo I could contact to voice my opinions?  I have been a loyal Thinkpad customer for over 5 years now, and I expect better from Lenovo.  Thank you for reading!
moderator note: core question add to title, as stated in the forum rules and it will help others too answer your questions.

Daventry wrote:
Is there any way to request a 64-bit OEM?  Why should Lenovo care whether I want a 32-bit or 64-bit as long as it's the same edition (Ultimate edition)?
if your system shipped with a 32-bit version of vista then you will be sent 32-bit windows 7 upgrade media.   the reason for this is two-fold.
first, because this is upgrade media, it's impossible to install a 64-bit version of windows over a 32-bit version.   doing so would require a clean installation and upgrade media simply won't allow this.   this is the case with retail media, too.   if you had 32-bit vista installed and wanted to upgrade it to 64-bit using retail media, you'd have to wipe your system or set up a dual-boot.
second, the COA (certificate of authenticity) on the bottom of your system is for vista.   because of this, your new license is of an upgrade from vista to 7.   this is how microsoft licenses it and it is their policy, not lenovo's.   microsoft's policy with OEMs is that you must install vista first, then upgrade to 7 (unless, of course, you purchased your system native with 7 on or after the 22nd).   since your original lenovo preload is of a 32-bit OS, the issue becomes circular and you'll have to refer again to the first reason.
i understand your frustration and wish this stuff were made easier for everyone.   it's repetative reading post after post of people with 4GB installed who don't understand the limitations of a 32-bit environment.   i wish both manufacturers and users switched to 64-bit OSes sooner.   the same thing happened when the industry went from 16-bit windows 3.11 to 32-bit windows NT4/95 and limitations went from 16KB all the way up to 4GB (which, in 1995, no one thought we'd ever exceed).   the difference is that people were complaining on BBSes over 14.4k modems instead of on GUI-based forums using broadband connections.   times sure have changed.

• E71 Firmware Upgrade - Does it lock the phone back...

I got my E71 that is on 3 Network unlocked (by a mobile shop) earlier. Nokia released the new firmware however update wasn't available for all the phones depending on the network operator that are on. I wonder the reason for that whether operators put a protection to the firmware code that locks the phones back to themselves.
Has anyone out there upgraded their firmware if they had previously got their handsets unlocked? What is the result?
Cheers,
Ugur

After an update, your Nokia device may restart in its native language. To change the language go to Settings > Phone > General > Phone language.
If your Nokia device was originally manufactured for use in another country or region, using Nokia Software Updater may revert the set of available device languages to the original language set.
If your preferred language is no longer available after using Nokia Software Updater, you may need to return your Nokia device to a Nokia Care point to have this language reinstated.

After recntly sending my 1Dc in for the 1.3.4 upgrade, only to find out the line in audio feature was broken, I am reluctant to go thru the process again for the 1.3.5 upgrade.
Right now I simply use manual audio setting and a -25 dB attenuator cable for the mic input.

ThanksYou cannot upgrade 10.1.3.x ORACLE_HOME after you lay down R12 software and before the actual upgrade since your instance should be on R12 to apply the patches in (Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 [ID 454811.1]). Can anyone please help? This is my first mac.

Hey DJ,
I'm thinking that, for those specific needs, dollars are better thrown at a newer model than upgrades for your existing one. Here's why:
1) You do not have native support for large hard drives, something that's nice for video work. You'd have to spend money on a PCI adaptor card to add that support. Figure US$40-100.
2) Your video card is likely not up to the task unless it's already been upgraded. Another $70-250 depending on how good a scrounger you are.
3) You need a minimum 1.25Ghz G4 processor and, if you get the upgrade, who's to say if the next version of FC will still support a G4? 1.2G processor upgrades start at over $200 and faster ones are up to $700 (OWC pricing for new gear).
4) You can't stick more than 2G RAM in your computer.
And, after all the upgrades, you still have the basic bus speed limitation inherent in all G4s.
Bottom line is that you can quickly invest enough to buy a faster used Mac. Examples of used G5 prices (usually at the top of the price scale) are here. Even an entry level G5 should be much faster than a fully upgraded G4.
Don't get me wrong--I'm an upgrader and love to do it regardless of cost. In this case, I see the potential for ending up with an upgraded computer that struggles at its intended task and could be obsoleted by the next upgrade of the software.

• Should apple have an upgrade tool that checks the computer for issues and fixes them prior to installing ML

I had a nightmare upgrade to Mountain Lion after downloading it from the APP Store I went to install and it got to the hard drive and it was greyed out and said it could not install on the startup drive I tried all the solution mentioned already, checking the disk the permissions, time machineetc and then started removing third party apps/software and it still wouldn't install in the end I saved everything I could to disk that I required and erased the disk, re-installed snow leopard and then re-downloaded Mountain Lion and then it installed perfectly and is running fine. I wish to ask if Apple can't make the upgrade process less stressful with some kind of tool that checks for issues prior to upgrading to ML and fixes or advices of any issues. Microsoft have had these kind of tools so surely Apple can do something similar that can advice of incompatibilty issues and fixes so that us MAC users aren't left scratching our heads trying to work out what is wrong, it's poor support when you can't help users get the software you make and sell onto our hardware Apple.

You should let Apple know of your concerns at:

• SUCCESS !!! Muvo TX 512MB Firmware Upgrade

My Muvo was toast. Same issues as others here. "No Music" message when Windows Explorer clearly showed mp3 files plus data files. I was even able to copy (backup) files to my laptop. I highly recommend this before you start anything!
After that, though, deleting files caused all sorts of problems. Most notably was the hanging or freezing every time windows explorer/windows format/(even)IE creative.com site autoupgrade tried to access the player. I formatted the dri've. After the first format (FAT not FAT32) I wasn't able to format the dri've again.
I finally decided to manually download the newest firmware (MuVoTX_PCFW_LF__22_03.exe). I've read that others have had problems with it. I removed the player from the usb port then (read somewhere here to do this) held the power button down while I reconnected it. I then ran the file above. It appeared to hang again. I also got the standard windows "new hardware detected" window and went ahead and clicked "let windows install new software (recommended)" (or something like that).
It took awhile but it finally completed. I noticed the player display was completely dead now though. Never happens when connected to the usb. I clicked on the "Safely Remove Hardware" (recommended in the manual before disconnecting). Sure enough, the player was completely dead. No power up or anything. I chuckled to myself cuz I had read this same problem over and over.
I connected it to the usb port again. Windows Explorer did not see it. I RERAN "MuVoTX_PCFW_LF__22_03.exe". The player was immediately detected! Second time around a dialog box appeared showing old firmware (0.00.0), new firmware (.22.03) and an option to format data area, which I took. Viola!!! SUCCESS !!! Upgrade completed!!!
I'm happy to report that I am now able to load mp3's on my Muvo TX. It's working fine so far. I'll report back if anything changes.
ps.
Tip - Keep in mind the "number of files" limitations on the player. Use folders! A folder with multiple mp3's is still considered one file in itself.

Is there anything I can do with my player, exept for throwing it away?

• Why does firmware upgrade erase everything on the ...

I have an E71, and yesterday I got an email saying that new firmware was available for my phone.
So I was trying to find out what was new in the new firmware, to see if it was worth upgrading, but so far, I've not been able to find that information anywhere. Why is that?
But what's much worse is that, according to the FAQ, all installed programs and all data will be erased when upgrading!!!
Hello Nokia - this is 2009, it should be possible to upgrade the firmware without losing all data!!! I know about other phone manufacturers that manage to do this without losing data. It's not even necessary to install additional "Software updater" software (that only runs on Win 2000 and XP).
I'm not interested in spending half a day configuring the phone, reinstalling programs and syncing back contacts etc! Especially since I don't know what benefits the new firmware has. So I'll stick with the firmware I've got.
Wake up Nokia!

Hi kin66
Newer devices have UDP = User Data Preservation which goes someway towards addressing these issues and backing up phone settings to memory card also helps as you are obviously aware.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

• If I upgrade to CS4, is the license for Elements still valid?

I'm hoping someone here has been there.  I've purchased an upgrade to CS4 and was wondering if anyone here could answer a couple questions.
a) Is Elements a more home-oriented, unique product in its own right, or does CS4 render Elements completely pointless?
b) Does the Elements license become invalid if you upgrade to CS4?
I'm not really an Elements user, I purchased E6 because I came across a CS4 upsell deal that made me pull the trigger. (been using GIMP) and can't find the E4 box that I never did get around to opening to install.  It's be nice to get into Elements though, to see just how much value is there with the app and the plugins all at work.

The painful part is I HAD the original CS 8.0 on the Mac.  LOL.  I had just forgotten it due to having an Intel Mac and kind of overlooking it.
(Turns out it runs pretty decent via Rosetta).  So yeah, I got CS4 Extended for $320.  Nice to finally own it.
I think I'll have fun using it now and then or maybe a lot if I use my camera enough.  So I guess now the question is, can I give away or sell 8.0.  LOL.
Since CS4 isn't tied to CS 8.0...you didn't use it for an upgrade...yes but you have to transfer ownership to give it away or sell it. (If you ever use CS4 to upgrade, CS4 and it's subsequent upgrades are all tied together as in you can't sell or give away any one portion...they are considered one item.)
