Creative PlayDock Z500 loud audible speaker hiss.

I ordered a Creative PlayDock Z500 Portable speaker system from Amazon and the unit has come from Avides Media AG in Germany.
Unfortunately there seems to be a fault with the Z500, because there is a loud audible hiss coming from the speakers.
The hiss is the same despite the Vision M player in the docking station playing music or if there is no player docked.
If you play music and turn up the volume, then the hiss is drowned out by the music which is fine for rocking tunes. But for the more chilled songs with quiet parts the hiss is very noticeable.
The other strange feature about the hiss, is when the you turn the volume up with no music playing (or no player docked) the hissing gets quieter. As you wind the volume down the hissing gets louder, until you reach the minimum volume point then the speakers just go silent. Then just one rotation click clockwise then brings the speaker hiss back again.
I have read plenty of rave reviews about the sound quality of Z500, and I can't believe that this hiss is present on all units.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and better still successfully had their unit replaced?
I have started the ball rolling by sending an email to Avides to see if they will replace my unit.
Cheers
Si

I am from New Zealand, our output is pretty much a stable constant 230V. Dad is an electronics expert, he disagrees with a lower voltage - lowering the input voltage will only lower the output volume. So in effect this will make the hiss appear to go away, but in reality it's simply lowered to a point where it's nominal or below hearing. The total output volume is also lowered, so you need to turn the speakers up more to hear anything.
It fits with what others have said about repaired systems, that don't go as loud any more. This isn't the fix.
We tried putting some heavy capcitors accross the speakers to act as a sort of high pass filter but that didn't appear to have any effect, which surprised him (if it had worked it would have killed some of the treble range also as a side effect, so again not a perfect solution). So it needs to be something a little more involved - like a decent filter of somesort.
It's probably just a cheap chip on the amplifier. I'm trying to get the company to find a NEW pair from the suppliers that doesn't hiss, then doing an RMA. Otherwise I"m tempted to get a refund, since IMO they're just **bleep** sounding. I've never heard hiss like this before, no matter how cheap the system. My DDTS-100 decoder seems to have a hiss problem also.....

• Creative Playdock Z500 Despair!

Hi everyone, please help a newbie to the forum but a long standing Creative fan! I've had my Zen Vision M and Playdock for many years and both have been great until recently during a move my Playdock has been damaged - the docking part has been pushed forward so no longer functions and the wires on the power adapter have started to come loose so it no longer works. After searching in vain for a replacement Playdock I have come to the conclusion that I am going to have to live with connecting my Zen using the cable but I cannot live with using batteries to power the speaker! So does anyone know if I can get a replacement power adapter from Creative or if there are alternatives by a different manufacturer? Many thanks in advance.

unless your skin is super thin if not I don't think you can fit it in easily. may have to use some force to slip it into the slot.

• US Playdock Z500 with UK Zen Visio

I really want a Creative Playdock Z500 to use with my Zen Vision M 30GB. However, it seems I missed the boat on the Europe supply, and everywhere I've looked is out of stock. I noticed it's in stock at Amazon.com so am thinking about importing one. Before I do, can anyone confirm that a US Playdock will be compatible with a UK bought Zen?Thanks!Sarah

Hi,

• Windows 7 and Speaker Hiss

Ever since I installed Windows 7 months ago on my T400, I've noticed (when docked, with external speakers) it makes a speaker hiss that is correlated to mouse movement (external wireless mouse), and particularly, scrolling with the mouse wheel. I've heard these sounds on other computers, but I never had the issue on mine until I upgraded to Win 7. I've muted and disabled the microphone, and I've tried rearranging the USB plugs (wireless receiver), but all to no avail. Anyone have a cure for the hiss?

I have the exact same issue on my T400s that came preloaded with Win7.
All I can think of is some sort of grounding issue in the laptop or dock. I'm going to try putting a ground loop isolator between the dock jack and the amp/speakers, see if that helps...

• Playdock z500 and 30gb ZVM with silicone skin

I'm looking at purchasing the Playdock z500 for my 30gb ZVM. I always keep the ZVM in a silicone skin. Does anyone know if the ZVM will successfully dock with the Playdock with the skin still on? The dongle works, BTW.

• CReative Playdock - powercable worn- replacement?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/s44..._/IMG_0844.jpg
picture above shows the cable tucked under the adaptor to highlight the crack in the insulation layer on the cable.
The power cable for my month old creative playdock (zen) has split exposing the conductors.
is it possible to get a replacement ( its under 2 months old)? and how? (from the UK)
the main unit still works and it would be a wastepackaging and postage? of time sending the whole thing back when its only the small power 'brick' thats developed the fault.

( dont know how to get rid of that boxy thing)
in the terms and conditions it states that...
"Creative Technology Ltd. (Creative) warrants that the retail hardware product herein (Product) is free of material defects in materials and workmanship that result in Product failure during normal usage, according to the following terms and conditions:""
" 8. The limited warranty does not apply to:
a) Damage caused by normal wear and tear, abnormal use or conditions, misuse, neglect, abuse, accident, improper handling or storage, exposure to moisture, unauthorized modifications, alterations, or repairs, improper installation, improper use of any electrical source, undue physical or electrical stress, operator error, non-compliance with instructions or other acts which are not the fault of Creative, including damage or loss during shipment. "
looks like i've been fobbed off, as normal wear and tear should not result in a failiure of the insulation layer on a flexible cable.

• Speaker Hissing

Hello,
My Powerbooks 1.67 HighRes speakers are making a pretty loud hissing type sound. If I put my ear near the left, or right speaker it sounds like mini fans... I can even hear them a bit now as I type.
Just last week I sent my Pbook in for a speaker repair. Because my left speaker sounded pretty lousy compared to the right one. Apple replaced some sound part, but they still sound pretty much the same.
Does anyone have any idea what the noise is?

i have a similar problem.. my powerbook has had its logic board, and supposidly speakers replaced...yet sometimes when i open the lid from standby, the speakers hiss crazily.. and only one speaker now puts out sound,.,, the left one.. even with headphones in, only the left speaker is working.....

• IPad2 external speaker hissing

Just pulled a refurbished iPad2 out of the box and the external speaker has a hissing noise. The noise is clearly audible when using sound effects via keyboard or playing video/audio. The hissing is NOT audible when using headphones.

Take it back to Apple straight away.

• Creative doesnt sell 7.1 Speaker Systems anymore?

Not that my current speaker system was even intended for 7.1 Setup; I sitll use it for 5.1
I cannot find any 7.1 speaker systems, Creative is only selling one 5.1: Inspire T6160; I am using currently the Inspire: 7800
I think my volume control is becoming defective so I thought of finding something equivelant if not better but I'm not having any luck.
And I dont think it might be a big deal but my 7800 gives me 8 watts per channel I think; T6160 gives me 6watts per. And the subwoofer gives 24 watts vs 20 watts with 6160
But does anyone own this 6160? Think its worth it? Like I said the 7800 is a 7.1 Speaker Setup; and the 6160 is only a 5.1; again it doesnt matter to me except the watts I listed above.
Is creative gonna come out with a new set of speakers soon?
Thanks

I have bought today the Creative Inspire T7800 - T7900 use the subwoofer with my Creative Gigaworks S750 - 7 sat speakers. It is working well.

• Creative GigaWorks Pro Gamer G500 Speaker wire question

Hi,
I have the creative gigaworks pro gamer speaker system but need to obtain some extra wire for the speakers to I can set them up around my room correctly. Would anyone have any suggestions of the type of wire to get hold of, room dimension is 98 inch by 24 inch. the main thing I am concerned about is the connectors for the wire going into the back of the amp, and the connectors going into the back of the speakers. I can twist the bare copper wires and insert them that way, but would prefer to have some sort of connector pin that can be used instead such as a gold plated connector. I think the gauge I am looking at is 6. Any help appreciated. Cheers

Have you checked your wiring? When going into THX Console and running the test, you should be able to hear the sound coming from the corresponding speaker. Otherwise your wiring must be wrong.
Also I do not understand what exactly you are doing in the CMSS Options: put the cmss3d on surround
Do you mean Stereo Surround?
put cmss 3d in the center : You mean you drag the slider into the center, or do you mean the CMSS2 option?Message Edited by alexs3d2 on 06-24-2006 07:34 PM

• Why Creative site doesn't have Speaker setup console installer?

I mean they ship with install disc with Vista version and they expect it to work perfect with Windows 7 or upcoming Windows 8? I want Creative to post there thx console setup or speaker console setup standalone installer on there website. So it would be easy for everyone to download the latest version(if they have updated).

Well, nobody seems to have this problem?

• Creative Labs SBS 560 Stereo Speaker Set

Hi, I'm planning on buying the , saw it here:
http://www.hcw.be/hcwcs/p.asp?mscssid=&p=F793&d=L#ld
My question is, does this speaker system uses the headphone jack to connect?
example:
http://www.cewindows.net/reviews/032005.JPG
Because I have a 2.1 speaker system, and I can connect this to my xga-box (little machine to connect my gamecube or xbox to my monitor)
http://www.futuremax.nl/images/xb/bg/650.jpg
(I put the cable from my 2.1 system in the side)
And I need to know if I a) Can connect this 5.1 system to my xga-box
b) Will have sound through all the speakers, including the
subwoofer?
Any advice would be appreciated

Bruuss,
Any of the Creative soundcard that's advertised as supporting 5.1 speaker system or higher is compatible with the SBS 560 and yes, the Audigy 2 ZS is compatible with the SBS 560.
As for connecting two output device, you can get a stereo splitter adaptor so both the speaker and headphone can share the audio output jack.
