Creative response to battery life prob

i'm just wondering if Creative is aware of the battery life running out because the player isn't fully shutdown. I was hoping this new firmware update would address that, but I guess not. It's just that I can't be always carrying a paper clip around just to reset it so that it turns off.

Creative need to fix this, and quickly. Last week I tried to switch on my player on the way home from work and it wouldn't switch on .... I thought it was broken. The battery life is appalling. I estimate that I am getting about 6 hours max out of a charge. It would be nice to have to option to ether switch off or to put into standby (though I would never use the standby option). I am off to find and load the old firmware.

  • New Zen Micro..Battery life prob

I bought a new Zen Micro yesterday...followed all the instructions..even bought the CCPP..while i was using the USB to charge it..i ripped 5 albums to the device...When it was fully charged.. I unplugged it.. This morning I played it for about an hour and then lost one bar on the battery icon..an hour later, i lost a 2nd bar. What's this all about?..what happened to the 2 hour life of a charged battery? When i phoned tech support they told me "sometimes when you rip an album, it corrupts the battery icon and you may not be fully charged'>..Sounds like a lot of techno doubletalk....HELP!

A new Lithium Ion battery takes 2 or 3 charges to reach peak performance.
You should also make sure you have the ..0 firmware which reduces the standby time, and standby drain.
Also make sure you read the FAQ post about how to maximise battery life.

  • BATTERY LIFE PROB

i purshased the creative zen 5g mp3 player [ the one with ppl complain about navigating the interphas] everything went well out of the box software was installed no problem. but after charging the mp3 player i use it and within 2 hours it runs out of battery! so i charged it again and it still dies out about 2 hours using it! and i play music with volume avg 4-6 can anyone help me with this problem! thanks

If it was me I'd return the player and change it for another brand or model , after reading these boards this seems to be a problem with all the micro's .. I was just about to buy one for my daughter but this problem has really put me off purchasing this thing ,exchange your model while its still new !!!!!

  • 3g iPod battery life and hard drive head...

    Hi all!
I have a 3G 20GB iPod, and sometimes the battery drains itself out even with a brand new battery and the iPod being shut off.
I can barely get 4-5 hours of playing time, no backlight, equaliser, and no songs skipping.
I found out that you can hear the head of the hard disk moving even when the iPod is turned off. One of my relative has a 3G 15GB iPod and she's experiencing the exact same problem of battery life, and her iPod's hard drive make's the exact same noise. And she also has a brand new battery.
So can you listen to your iPod, (even between times when the iPod has stored the data to it's RAM the head of the hard drive is still making some kind of movement) and tell me what you think.
I've tried to install all previous versions of iPod software to no avail.
For now I have completely erased the drive with "zero all" along with a surface test by Tech Tool Pro, and it seems to have made a difference.
Time will tell, post your observations and I will keep you posted.

The largest detractors for battery life are the obvious ones like backlight usage, anything that makes the HDD seek (FFW, skip track, etc...) using EQ, and volume. There are many other areas but most are pretty minor. Alot of it actually depends on the chip that regulates energy to the player. Supposedly we will be seeing new chips that double or triple battery life on these mp3 players in the near future but we shall see.
Hard disk is by far the biggest user, backlight uses some (but you wouldn't have the backlight on, and it's not good for the life of the EL panel either). EQ seems to have issues on some players where it uses far too much power in my opinion, specifically the Smart Volume function. I hope Creative can address the power demands of this if possible. Creative managed to double the base battery life of the Touch with the changes they made in some of the hardware, so greater li'ves are definitely achievable.
Rich_T: I've used your excellent test data as the start of a battery curve graph I'm putting together. I'm taking Creative's benchmark data and anything else I see to try and create curves for the players under different circumstances. I think once we have a base curve for one circumstance we can probably extrapolate it to all the other players, at least as a guess.
If anyone at Creative has any battery life figures for different scenarios (which I would be amazed if they didn't) it would be very useful

  • Creative Zen X-Fi Battery Life

I just got a new Creative Zen X-Fi 32GB player a couple of weeks ago. One of the selling points for me was the stated 36 hours of audio playback time. However, on my first two charges, I have only gotten about 2 hours of battery life, with usage as follows: no X-FI, no Wi-Fi, player locked about 90% of the time so that screen is turned off, a litle bit of usage with the headphones on and volume set at or 2, and the rest of the usage with volume set at 0 to 2 and using either the external speaker or with the player hooked up to an FM transmitter in my car.
What are others experiencing? Any tips on getting the claimed 36 hours? Is that possible only with all usage with the headphones and the volume set very low?

player locked about 90% of the time so that screen is turned off, This will get you the longest runtime. External speaker & playing video will really use up the battery.

  • Anyone experiencing diminished battery life and delayed response times with iOS 5 on iPad 1?

Since installing iOS 5 on my iTouch and iPad, the battery life of both devices has been terrible! Before I could get 1-1/2 or more days use, now I'm down to hours without using the device. . .and I've turned off all of the locations services except, find my phone. Next, I'm going to try turning off the auto time zone setting.
I've also noticed diminished response on my iPad when opening Settings, Notes, etc. --like 10+ second delay before anything happens. I'm really considering restoring my devices back to the older OS.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported. My iPad is a bit slower that it used to be, but I havn't noticed any change in battery life.
In terms of response times you could try closing all your apps completely and then do a reset and if that improves things. To close all apps : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
For battery life have you done a charge cycle since you updated :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Since upgrading my 4s to ios7 i cannot turn on my wifi and my battery life is halved how can i fix these probe?

my tech nephew told me to reinstall io7 as it has been updated to resolve these problems (cannot access wifi and battery life is halved) Is this true and what's the best way to reinstall ios7?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • N8 frustration - WLAN/FM radio/battery life

Boy, were my hopes ever dashed?
Great to look at, great to hold in one's hand, nice to swoosh between homescreens, photo-taking a treat.......I could go on; not much, but I could go on.
    How frustrating is this phone?
Anytime I plug in the supplied headphones to listen to the FM radio, the app freezes and won't close down. It finds all the stations, but won't let me pick one or assign an ID to any of them.
Battery life seems much less reliable than that of my previous 5800, but I'm willing to make an exception with regard to the fact I'm regularly on the screen trying to work out how to use the thing! IF I ever manage to get to grips with it, or if it ever gets the fix that it needs, this issue may well be forgotten.
The 'messaging' icon was lost during an organisation of the menu screen, and cannot be found or replaced, even after a reset.
The most annoying thing, however, is the internet connectivity - or lack of! So far I've had trouble with downloading updates to allow facebook and twitter to work - what's with apps for 'social networks' AND 'communities'? - accessing OVI stores requires regularly re-signing in, mailbox settings are proving problematic amongst other things, and connecting to my WLAN at home....? Nae chance.
I have a BT HomeHub (one of the black numbers) which allowed a laptop and a Wii, no problem. This phone? Found it, took the key, will connect, but any attempt at web browsing is met with a window stating 'Invalid server name'. After a long call with BT this morning, the HomeHub was reset, and this seemed to clear everything and allow access. Come teatime, however, and we're back to the 'invalid server name' response. What is THAT all about? How can we overcome this?
As a point to note, I tried connecting to my sister's Virgin Media hub at her house a couple of days before - easy! No problem whatsoever. A chap in the Vodafone shop recognised this from the anecdotal evidence of other customers and said perhaps a WPA/WEP diecrepancy may be the cause. It is at this stage that I become disconnected from any sense of understanding.
Can anyone enlighten me, please? All I want is to get this working and get on with my life. A quick scan of other discussion topic headings suggests to me that this may be a winter of discontent for many N8 owners. Are there any knowledgable folk out there with some practical suggestions/solutions?
It's late. I'm tired. Good night.
    Best regards
    MT

    @2late2avoidN8
I also have had problems with the wlan connection on my N8. The phone would connect to my wlan no probs. But when trying to connect to the internet it would say "failed. Access denied".
Then tried to connect to the internet using my network providers access point and got the message "Invalid server". Out of frustration I rang the Nokia Australia call centre (located in the Phillipines) and the woman I spoke to there told me to perform the following steps.
1 Switch the phone off for about 30 seconds.
2 Switch it back on and wait untilthe home screen appears.
3 On the dialler type *#7780#
4 Wait for the phone to restart.
Did all that and guess what. It solved my connection problems.

  • HT1430 I have the Iphone 5 and just recently updated to IOS 6.1.3 and my battery life is just not what it was with the 6.1.2.  I can start a day at 100% and in 6 to 7 hours be at 18%, (this actually occurred this past Monday) for no reason.

Hello, has anyone had problems with increase rate of battery life depletion?  When I say increased rate I mean loosing maybe 80% in a 7 hour time frame while using the Iphone for nothing more than checking weather or stocks?  This started after I went to the IOS 6.1.3.  Before I could easily get 3 days out of the phone. Now I am wondering if it will hold the charge before I get home from work.

    Hi imobl,
Thanks for your response, I forgot to add that the five 3uk sims we have in use, I have tried all of them none of them are recongnised non of them have pin codes, I even purchased four more sims Tmobile (original carrier) Vodaphone, 3 and giffgaff.

  • Mid-2013 Macbook Air Battery Life has become awful-Not Mavericks related

I have a Mid-2013 Macbook Air that I bought in July. i5, 1.3 GHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB SSD.  I honestly thought that my horrible battery life was due to the recent upgrade to Mavericks (many MBAir users are having problems with 10.9), so I downgraded to 10.8.5 this AM.  With my backlit keyboard off and the screen at a mid-level of brightness, I am barely getting 2hrs of battery life.  Before I go make an appointment with the Apple Genius, I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions.  I saw other threads on this issue, but none of them seem to really help.  Below is the EtreCheck file (there seems to be a lot of Symantec traffic, but I am not sure that is the cause).  Also, I am also running  "hidden" so I wonder if the constant location services are draining the battery.  Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.

    Yes,
After Mavericks install, your "time remaining" WILL BE INACCURATE until you do a SMC reset in many case
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
There is a HUGE distinction here about someone getting less batt. life in actuality .......or are they just reading the "time remaining" and using that as a true indicator which is certainly is not.
Ive seen 3 notebooks after SMC reset jump 4+ hours in "time remaining" and slowly climb after 3+ full charge cycles.
Until things settle down, nobody should trust what the 'time remaining' says.

  • Centro Battery Life

After 3 Palm PDAs, I was excited to get a Palm Centro.  In the first 30 days it became obvious battery life was horrible.  Best Buy swapped first the battery, then the entire device.  After that they referred me to AT&T who swapped the phone and at least 4 batteries until the 1 year warranty ran out.  AT&T was very helpful during the first year warranty period, but I've still got 8 months on my contract, and my battery does good to last 6-8 hours.  Charging it for use first thing the next day isn't possible.  I make very few phone calls, literally 2-3 a week, so it's totally standby time I'm fighting with.  I don't use any data connections (no e-mail, no gps, no web).  I don't use texting or any third party software.  I turn bluetooth off except for once a month to sync with my Vista 64 computer.  AT&T has checked the settings and found nothing wrong.  I'm reluctant to spend $50 for a battery that will only last a month or two, I might as well buy an I-Phone for that price (except I don't want the required data connection).  I've even tried turning the radio transmitter off, charging it at 11 PM, and the next morning, it's still dead!  Just totally unacceptable, and before now, unlike Palm quality.  An e-mail from Palm today advertising the new palm pre plus just set me off.  Why would I upgrade with my experience with Palm's quality and response to a major issue.  I thought I was alone, I wish I'd read all the reviews before I bought my Centro, I would have continued using my old phone, and will probably have to go back to it if I every want to make an actual phone call.
I would expect Palm to replace the battery for at least the first 2 years when it's obviously not a user issue!

I'm in a great coverage area and battery life isn't any better if my radio transmitter is turned on or off.  Also brand new batteries seem to work fine for several weeks to a month or so, then start degrading.  I followed the manuals and AT&Ts recommendation to the letter on charging & recharging.  My wife's Centro is in the same location and has almost identical usage and works fine.  I've had lots of suggestions and "it might be's" and tried and eliminated them all, and still have a battery that won't hold a charge.

  • X1 Carbon 2015 (Gen3) Battery life

    Hello all,
Looking for some advice on properly setting up power managment on my new X1Carbon 3rd Gen, touch screen, i7, 8GB ram.  Running Windows 8.1.  I have used the default Lenovo powerplan but reduced brightness to 50%.
I noticed today and yesterday while traveling that I was not getting the 5-8 hours I have heard people mention.  Yesterday though I was watching some video in the VLC app and found I was down to 30% after approximately 2 hours.  In total may have gotten 3 hours battery.
Today I worked on my laptop on two train rides back to back total 2.5 hours and was down to 28% battery.  I suspect that I might have some settings not optimized so any feedback would be appreciated.  This is a fresh install so no bloatware and all Lenovo drivers are up to date.
Any feedback would be appreciated or areas I should look at to fix this.

I am probably in the 'real world' 5-6 hour range with my Gen. 3 X1 (sometimes I can stretch to 6.5-7 hours if I watch power usage very carefully and run Task Manager to shut down battery hogging processes).  Big dissapointment in the battery life department, for sure.  I think part of this is Windows 8.1 which tends to run processes that chew up battery (unlike Apple laptops which are way more optimized to sip power).
I originally ran on "Balanced"  mode but I'm getting really bad browser (mostly Chrome) lag on battery so I switched to "Lenovo Power Optimized" which really hasn't helped the lag that much but the machine seems a bit more responsive.
I have Battery Bar Pro to monitor my instant power usage and found that the X1 uses far less power on battery when browsing using Internet Explorer touch (on the Metro side) but that requires you to choose IE11 as your default browser which is not optimal since the touch version of IE11 is so limited (no extensions) that it makes browsing difficult (at least for me).  I am praying that Spartan solves these problems.
So, bottom line is that the X1 is definitley not getting anywhere near its advertised battery life of 10.4 hours.  I'm sure you could get that if you had the screen all the way down and used the X1 in a very limited fashion but nobody works like that.  Lenovo should be more like Apple and give real world battery life estimates (yes, the MacBook Air really gets 10+ hours plus in real world usage).
There's a lot to like about the X1 (great keyboard, trackpoint, good touchpad, etc.) but battery life is not one of them.

  • Poor battery life and high temperatures on MacBook Pro Retina 15"

I'm having never-ending problems with poor battery life and high temperatures on a MacBook Pro Retina 15"
I took it in for service and they told me it needed a new logic board and replaced it.  When I asked why they were vague about the reasons, they said "it just needed one, it failed some test".  I now have the computer back and it runs the same way it always did.  I bought this laptop because it was supposedly capable of high end video editing in 1080P (or so Apple's website claims) and also photo editing.
"The processor, graphics, all-flash architecture, memory, and display in the 15-inch MacBook Pro give you unprecedented mobile video editing capabilities. Super-responsive flash storage delivers up to nine streams of 1080p ProRes (HQ) content for multicam editing in Final Cut Pro X,3 while the latest quad-core processors on the 15-inch MacBook Pro decode multiple streams of video, and a powerful GPU renders millions of pixels onto the screen. With flash storage that offers up to four times the performance of a traditional hard drive,1 you can even edit four streams of uncompressed 8-bit 1080p HD video, right from the internal storage on your 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.4"
However, when I'm just browsing the web and emailing it runs quite warm and battery life is quite poor.  Sometimes doing those same activities I would say it gets so warm it's almost uncomfortable to have on your lap and the fans are running fast enough to become noticably noisy.  I'm also driving only one screen at and a time and I heard that the MacBook Pro can supposedly do three screens.
If actually try to do something like video editing with final cut pro the laptop gets really hot, the fans are on full blast and battery life drops to only an hour or two.  I think when I rendered just a 3 or 4 minute clip once I got less than hour of battery life.  I will have to time again.
Anyway most people (including the sales guys) are telling me no way this is not normal.  When I play with demos in the store browsing the web they are not getting warm or hot to the touch.  My friend's 2013 MacBook Air is also NOT getting warm to the touch doing the same activities.
I installed iStat Pro so I could check the temperature and fan speeds.  I'm seeing temperatures of 70+ on the GPU, 85+ on the GPU diode and 65+ on the CPU heatsink along with elvated fan speeds above 5K which becomes noticeably noisy.  I understand that might be normal for the most processor intensive tasks but it really doesn't seem right for just light web browsing and e-mailing.  (I also may have viber and skype open but that shouldn't matter).  CPU usage is usually running between 2-10% as this is all happening to.
    Furthermore, straight from the specs:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and  automatic graphics switching
I am assume "GPU" and "GPU diode" are temp measurements on the discrenete NVIDIA video card, especially since MacBook Airs from the same and newer generatio do not have this reading.  Since Apple Claims the graphics "automatically switches" it seems all the harder to believe the GPU is reaching 85+ when in theory it shouldn't even be activated.  I mean, shouldn't the INtel HD Graphics 4000 be capable of simple web browsing and e-mailing?  Especially with only one screen activated (be it it the internal or an external)?
What should I do here?  When I asked the repair guys "OK well what is the normal operating temp range for the various sensors" they said "Sorry Apple doesn't provide that info".

    Yes I have.
Just web browsing and basically doing nothing I'm hear a lot of aduible fans, I'm getting 85C+ on GPU diode, 65+ on cpu heatsink.  I since installed anohter program that shows me not just the CPU heatsink but the cores and the cores are at 90C+.
Seems like a lot of heat for doing nothing.  Not only that but I have these problems with no external monitor while on battery power too.
I don't know what to do.  They already replaced the logic board.  Others seem to get advertised battery life out of Apple products and not have products that get **** near hot enough to burn you while just web browsing or watching a movie let alone advertised tasks like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

  • OSX 10.8.2 made battery life on macbook pro early 2010 even worse

After upgrading to mountain lion, like everyone else I noticed that my battery took a hit but from what I could tell I lost about an hour's worth of time at the most when I used to almost 6 - 7 hours. Now that I have upgraded to 10.8.2 my battery life is much, much worse. I just charged my macbook to 99% and then unplugged it. I have the screen at half brightness and the batter monitor is telling me that I have 2 hours 30 min of life and I can see the % dripping away even in the short time that I am looking at the monitor.
I can't even put the lid down on my macbook at night and leave it that way till the following morning as the battery drains completely. In the past it would stay in this dormant state for days even.
I thought 10.8.2 was meant to resolve the situation, not make it worse. Is there anything at all that I can do apart from shutting down all my apps all the time?

Have you all tried some of the trouble shooting basics?  Reset SMC?

I'm ashamed to say "No" I hadn't tried any such basics!  I have now, and with some sucess.  After a SMC reset I have new figures...
    Battery Health:         90%
    Battery Charge:        99%
    Time Remaining:      4:07
Now that looks much better.  I can't say with 100% certanty that it was the SMC reset that resolved the issue as I did discover process that was running and chewing up huge amounts of CPU.  The KiesViaWiFiAgent application was responsable.  I of course killed this off and the CPU also resumed normal operation.  I have also deleted the app as I never want to see it running again.

  • Upgrade results in diminished battery life

you recently upgraded software on my phone and my wife's phone. Since that time the phone gets very hot and the battery life has been cut in half. I read your response to another unhappy user in which he was told to go to the Verizon store. I did that and was told that I could either upgrade my phone or try a hard reset which would wipe out my data and my apps. This is obviously a problem with the upgrade, since I am not the only one having this problem. I would expect a patch to be sent out immediately to fix the problem.

Been suffering long enough after the KitKat upgrade.  Figured it was time to post.
1).  Phone runs hot - my theory is that it's struggling to find/keep LTE and cycling too much on the network
2).  Battery life is horrible now.  Used to end the day after normal use at 45% remaining, now recharging by mid-day
3).  Text messages sometimes take up to 10 minutes to send
4).  Random slowdowns - too many to really list, one app or another will freeze, not connect.  I realize this can be an app issue, but still - a real drag.
Will not do a hard reset - I would rather pay out my contract and go to another carrier, seriously.  Battery usage shows that Android System is taking up most of the juice - 24% usually.  The phone worked great at one point, now it's junk.
For real, do I have to go to a Windows phone?  Is that the life lesson here?
