Creative Smart Recorder WON'T REC

I've just installed Audigy SE on Windows Vista, ran Creative Smart Recorder and instead got this message:
"There is no audio device available on the system. The application will no close."
Matter of fact, none of the third party recording programs will record anything even when I select SoundBlaster Audigy as the input source. How does one even begin to troubleshoot something like that ?

I had the same problem and found a solution after hours and hours. Clicking on the smart media icon in the start menu (right mouse button), choosing "attributes" and than "compatibility", choosing windows xp (which is not installed an my computer). after that it worked right away. my system is in German, so I hope my translation of the menu is okay.

  • Creative Smart Recorder Customizations

    Hi,
Recently i started using the Creative Smart Recorder for recording our church services.
The application is really good and it solves our purpose. We are using it with Creative sound card and we purchaged Creative MP3 audio pack to record in mp3 format.
Is there any settings for the following in "Record Now" screen.
After the recording is finished(pressing STOP button) -> "Edit New Recording Information" dialogue comes up -> if "escape" key or "cancel" button is accidentally pressed, the recording is lost. Is there any setting to make the smart recorder ask the user like "really want to calcel the recording" (Yes/No) option? so that the user will not loose the recording accidentally?
    2. After the recording is finished(pressing STOP button) -> "Edit New Recording Information" dialogue comes up ->? Is there any option to add some predefined entries for ***le" "Artist" "Album" so that we can select them from the respective drop down boxes? (similar to Genre - currently gives option to select from a list)?
    3. After the recording is finished(pressing STOP button) -> "Edit New Recording Information" dialogue comes up ->?
For "Fileneme" currently names the file name as <input_date_time> by default. Can we configure to our own way?
Can someone please respond? I like the feature of "Pause" in the software.
    Thanks In Advance.

    Hi,
    1. There is not setting to change this.
    2. These options are not available on the Smart Recorder software. However you can use external software (like a Mp3 tagger) to tag the files.
    3. The filename is saved in that format, it is not configurable. However you can rename the file.
I don't think there are any future plans for this software at this point.

  • Audigy 2 value. Creative smart recorder has encountered a problem and needs to clo

At last I installed the audigy 2v software but I get this error when I try to open creative smart recorder."Creative smart recorder has encountered a problem and needs to close." My mic functions but my speakers don't. So I have switched to my on board card now. I am using Windows Xp, service pack 2. Everything functioned perfectly until I got the last updates using autoupdate. Any suggestions?

Thanks PeeBee! For some reason WMP burned those songs as write-protected (although at some point in the past I had turned it off). I reburned those songs and they uploaded just fine. Now if only I can figure out this video thing. Thnaks again. - Chris

  • Creative Smart Recorder with new driver

'Creative Smart Recorder with new driver< I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2v purchased and installed in Oct, 2005. I use the Smart Recorder a lot and all was fine until two weeks ago when I downloaded and installed new driver software from Creative. All of the rest of the software works fine (no change or improvement in the operation in the card, which is why I went for the new driver), but?now when I try to start the ?Smart Recorder I get a Windows message "Creative Smart Recofder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."? It asks if I want to Send Error Report. As far as I can tell Smart Recorder never opened. Other than putting my computer back into the what it was two weeks ago is there anything that I can do? I'm not sure that the previous driver, etc. is still there. Thank you.

+ Need to add something. I thought that if a program loaded I was okay. But, no. The media studio will load but is no longer connected, I mean nothing will record, not from the internet or the CD player. No connection. Whatever Creative gave me, it is not friendly with older versions of the software.

  • SMART RECORDER WON'T RECORD - NO INPUT - IS IT SMARTER THAN ME OR JUST STUP

I'm desperately trying to record a streaming audio file. I've opened Smart Recorder but i'm getting no input levels on any of the input sources.
Nothing is muted so what's up?
    Any ideas?
I'm using Creative SB Audigy 4 with Windows XP Pro SP2.

    Hi Ickeman,
Let me firstly assure you that Smart Recorder is neither more 'smarter' or 'stupider' than your good self, it is simply a piece of software code, quite a handy little app when it works, but when it doesn't...it causes extreme frustration. This latter emotion is what I too am feeling right now, as I too, have the self-same problem.
Something else that is definitely not encouraging is the amount of support you have received. However, it could be that along with John-CL's stabs of aid, you might have received help from Creative's 'techies'? It does not show on the thread, but simply peters out as a case of something problematic to sweep under the carpet. Did you actually resolve the problem, or did you move on to a more expeditious application?
I for one cannot accept that Creative are unaware of the issue, nor that they are unable to fix it. As usual, it is looking like 'support' means to acknowledge a problem and then to ignore it.
Four hours ago the application was working fine, but in that four hours I have reformatted my hard dri've, and done a full clean install. When I installed all the drivers and software for my X-FI Fatalty Champions card, I made the error of allowing updates to be installed, and now the recorder will not function. The analyzer does not pick up any signals nor shows that it does, but states that it is analyzing. The facility to record instantly and manually has disappeared, in that it remains at 00.00. This is without doubt a software issue, and one that occurs in the update...so yeah! I'm currently frustrated to the nth degree.
The reason for reformatting, was because I intend to buy the Zen X-FI MP3 player, and I wanted to have my machine clean and ready for all the music I intended to put on it, but if I do not get this issue sorted, I may go for a Granny Smith player instead, buy a Yamaha soundcard, and ditch the Creative bundle into the trash where my frustration believes it belongs.
So, support means exactly that! It means communication, not silence. It means focussing on the customer's issue (even if the customer is as thick as a plank o'wood), as if the issue was one's own problem, which by customer relation is Creative's problem, thus focus should be maintained until it is sorted. Creative should 'WANT' to sort the issue, and considering the amount of time that has elapsed since the inital 'op' post, a 'fix' should be advertised on these forums through the mods. I expect support, I expect focus, and I expect a fix...and I expect it yesterday. Just point me in the right direction and I'll do the rest. Fix it, and you'll get more money from me, but Creative ignore it at their customer peril.
    Ta!

  • Creative Smart Recorder Will Not L

I've successfully used USB Sound Blaster Li've! Model SB 0490 since January 2006. Today is different. Inexplicably Smart Recorder will not load. All other Creative programs (such as Surround Mixer, Graphic Equalizer) load without a snicker. I've run the diagnostics and everything checks okay. I used the CD to "repair" the software. Instead of loading I instantly get the cursed stop-everything Microsoft message "...Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft..."? This is XPHome fer ya.
The forum on this product while dated contains nothing I can see about this. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Want to let you all know that I think I solved the problem, or actually, two problems.
Problem - I installed the 64-bit driver, which included the Audio Console. Then, when I installed the applications on the CD that came with the card, I unknowingly installed the Audio Console again, which was a 32-bit version. I took out the card, uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled only the 64-bit Driver/Audio Console which came from Creative's website.
Bottom line - I installed the 32-bit Audio Console on top of the 64-bit Audio Console. Creative should write drivers or give better explanations so regular consumers can avoid this pitfall. I'm a computer tech and figured this out, but most folks wouldn't.
Problem 2 - I can't blame Creative for this one. I turned off my onboard 394 (Firewire) port. I don't use it anyway.
When I did those two things, my issue went away. The X-Fi Fatalty now works perfectly.
Thanks to the two people who responded here. Hope this helps someone else.

  • Creative Smart Recorder 2 - Where can I download it for my Audigy 2 ZS Platin

The program I am specifically talking about is linked below:
    http://www.soundblaster.com/resources/read.asp?articleid=53829&cat=2
If it works in the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook there is no reason why it shouldn't work on my Audigy 2 ZS Platinu. I was wondering where I can download version 2 of this piece of software?

There is no such plugin for any Android browser. I doubt Microsoft will ever make one. The best chance you have is if the site provides a direct link to the file and you download it. You then might be able to play the file with one of the media players on the phone.

  • Can't run Creative Smart Recor

When I try to run the Creative Smart Recorder application, its window shows up for a split second, then disappears from the screen (and doesn't appear in the Task Manager like its hidden or something). It just does the same thing again and again every time I try and run it, and no dialog box comes up to explain the problem. I tried reinstalling the program but that didn't work either...any ideas on the problem?

I cannot run the Smart Recorder either. I have the same problem. Anyone able to fix it or have any info?

  • Smart Recorder Prob

I've been using the What You Hear feature on Creative Smart Recorder for about 2 years but all of a sudden there is no input. I've tried selecting Wave, Line-In, etc but nothing from any input.
No updates or software have been added to my pc (XP), it just suddenly stopped working.
Is this a common problem? How can I fix it!?

i can relate to your problem as i have nearly exactly the same . I am trying to record my old lp's to my hd ,i can hear the music not a problem but can't get smart recorder to work . I have tried different imputs including winamp through wave ,no worries about hearing the tracks but again no go with the recorder .Here are a few things that are happening , i to cannot get the peak meter register and when i click the box to remove hiss and clicks i lose the sound . The recorder used to work just fine ,i have updated drivers and programs frome the web site , the onboard sound has been disabled the x-fi card is the coms default . I had problems early on with conflicts between mb and sound card but a bios update fixed that (asus mb amd 64 x2 chip and X-fi platinum sound card.}Really want to find out what is happening as i like the pro for its one step does everything .

  • Smart Recorder does not record. Time is not increment

    Hi
I have just purchased a new X-Fi Extreme Music sound card.
I cannot record anything in Smart Recorder. The time display just stays at 00:00:00 when I press the record button. It is not because I enable the wait for sound feature. It just won't start.
What is wrong? Software bug in Smart Recorder? Any other with the same problem?

    Nothing yet I think.
I tried to mail Creative support, but it seems like they have no clue about what is going on.
They keep telling me to try all sort of things, such as new drivers, install in safe mode, anti virus might have messed up the installation, etc...
I have followed their advice, but it does not help.
    I'm stuck
I am just hoping that a newer version at some point will fix the problem.

  • Smart Recorder Audigy 4 not work

I've had an Audigy 4 pro for a couple of years now and had full use of the smart recorder. When I updated to windows Vista I lost the use of this. Last week I decided to buy the Xfi and I had full use of smart recorder again but I didn't like the new software that came with xfi. On the audigy model I was able to select auditorium etc in the EAX but with the xfi it gives me 22 dials of reverb to mess around with - yeah right
!!! Owing to this I decided to go back to my Audigy 4. What I don't understand is why Smart Recorder will work in Vista with Xfi but it won't with Audigy?
Am I doing something wrong? I've disabled my onboard sound and I've tried to run smart recorder in windows xp compatibiltiy. When that didn't work I uninstalled and reinstalled using XP compatibility to be told I didn't have a supported device.
Why can't Creative just update the hardware and leave the software nice and simple lol - the whole sound of Xfi recording just wasn't in the same league as the Audigy 4 so that was a waste of ?220
If noone has an answer to this then can you let me know if there is a good recording software out there that has recording settings of mono or stereo and bitrate settings. I don't want to edit my stuff I just want it to sound good with the initial recording and Xfi just didn't!
    Thanks for your help

i still have a audigy 4 non pro and this stupid digi in/out racket. I still try to get my xbox work together with my SB at the digi in coax port. I only hear stereo sound in the menu but i just get a "crack"w hen digi output "Reciever supports AC3" is turn on and the dvd has a AC3 stream. DTS though. Can somebody help me?

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty - Smart Recorder will not work in

I think the 64-bit drivers for this puppy are still buggy. When I try to record my vinyl albums through Smart Record, Wave Studio or even the basic Windows Sound Recorder, I get screeching noise on playback.
Everything appears to record normally, but when you play it back - screeching.
My previous sound card, an Audigy 4, worked perfectly under Windows X64. I'll be returning my X-Fi and getting an Audigy 4 tomorrow.
I really hate to waste time - I wish Creative would have provided better drivers for the X-Fi. I'm very disappointed.
My system has 4 Gig of Ram in Abit Fatalty SLI Mobo, Nforce 4 SLI. I have the very latest bios from Abit, too.
