Creative Soundblaster on iMac Dual Core

Is there any way I can install Creative sound Blaster Audigy family sound card on iMac. I can get a PCMCIA version and use PCMCIA-USB adaptor to connect it to IMac's USB port. But Creative doesn't have drivers for Mac
What are the available sound cards (which you've used/ or at least know about)?
Thank you,
Mukul

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

  • 24" imac dual core and uk broadband providers

I currently have a 17" flat screen imac connected to the internet via the internal modem. I use AOL's dial-up service. I'm intending to purchase a new 24" dual core imac and want to connect to the internet via broadband. As AOL's current broadband sevice doesn't support Macs, can anyone recommend a Mac friendly ISP? I'm a broadband novice, so any other connection advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Keithsahammer
All broadband service's are Mac friendly it's most service provider's dont support Mac's.
Have a look at ADSLguide http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/threads.php?Cat= scroll down for all provider's
    Mac forum http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=mac ask away.
When you get Broadband make sure you dont get a USB modem as they dont work to well with Mac's as they need driver's.
Get yourself a ethernet router/modem like http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834 or if you need wireless http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834G

  • Imac dual core what os can it run

I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro and have an old IMAC Intel Dual Core
What OS could be loaded on it that would still get security patches.
It still runs great and I would hate to throw it in the trash

Is it a Core 2 Duo? There is no Intel 2 Duo.
You are extremely limited with the amount of RAM that is presently installed. To properly run Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks you should have at least 4GBs of RAM. Apple states a minimum of 2GBs but that is the bare minium and any system with only 2GBs will run SLOW.
In any event before you can upgrade to any of the newest OS X versions you'll need to instal Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and update that to 10.6.8.

  • 1st gen imac, dual core no power?  Some  helpful advice requested please....

Please pardon my grammar, sentence syntax and perhaps spelling!
Yes I have read all the gloom and doom posts regarding logic boards etc, what are the chances it might be a power supply issue?
Cord in and out, pram reset, no power light, no response to keyboard, no connected accessories, nothing on screen, no response to attempted insertion of disks, so sound (start up or otherwise), no sound of disk trying to boot etc, etc. Tried alternative cord as well...rarely shut down except for moving unit, days away etc
Please could you helpful guys and girls throw some ideas about what my issue with this rather old (first intel imac early 2006, 2o" screen) but beloved piece of tech might be?
My Imac simply went to sleep one fine spring morning and never woke up. Thanks in advance!!

I am on the phone right now with a product specialist about my iMac G5 power supply issues. Kind of ***** because he has, in so many words, said that the Genius is the Alpha and Omega and can extend the 3 year coverage. For me that is great except that the Apple store is over an hour away. I don't understand why the dude on the phone can't pull the switch and make it happen as well.
    Factor in:
Unplugging iMac G5 and all peripherals
    Loading it in the car
    Driving an hour
Carrying it into the Mall (apple store)
    Waiting for my Genius appointment
More than likely getting it fixed for free (from the sounds of things)
Driving back after it is fixed
    Doing everything listed in reverse.
Would it just be easier to pay the $108 for a new power supply, wait a few days, undo some screws, and BAM! it works again?
Update. Off the phone now. The product specialist flexed his muscles, back handed the Genius to gain authority, and basically stated that they WILL DEFINITELY repair either the power supply or the logic board or both if needed. I have already had them replace the logic board once. BUT, I still have to load it up and take it to the Apple Store. Boo.

  • Trouble moving  keychain to new system (iMac G5 -- iMac Dual Core (Intel)

Hi. I'm having trouble getting my old keychains on the new intel iMac. I renamed the old ones and put them in my new Dan/Library/Keychains folder. Then I opened the Keychain Access program, clicked edit -> keychain list, clicked the "+" and while I can see the old keychains, they are "greyed out", and cannot be selected. Any tips?
    Thanks,

  • Blank CD copy problem iMac dual core

I have a brand new iMac Intel. When I insert a blank cd it doesn't show up on the desk top and I can't copy to it, either, obviously.
Are there particular cd-r brands i should use?

Check out Apple's page for burning, you should find an answer in there.

  • IMac Dual Core - Airport conflict issue.

    Hi folks,
I am having a problem with my neighbor. Not that he's even aware of it. I have a secured wireless network entirely locked down by MAC addy, and all that good stuff. When he powers up his LinkSys wide-freeking open "access point", my Airport goes bonkers, looses my strongest connection to my Netgear Extended-Range Router. I look at my airport status now greyed out, which now shows no network selected, and none available. Check it again in 10 minutes, shows mine and the Linksys one, OR shows just the weak linksys one and my mac asks me if I'd like to join that "access point".. Is there any way I can lock my airport into my Router Signal ONLY and not let this weak "access point" knock me offline? This is beginning to suck! Thanks in advance for any help/advise - and no, I would rather not go hard-wire.. 8^)

Thank you so much! I am still getting used to being "wireless" and seems my neighbors all use our systems at about the same times... I have made these changes and now, my wife and I shall enjoy our Macs when we want!
I hadn't realized I had set these options to be "automatically join".. Which probably really ***** unless one is "on the road".. I shan't be hoisting my 20" iMac out of the house .. unless we move! Thanks again for you quick and concise help!
    In System Preferences->Network->Airport, select "by
default join preferred networks, and make sure your
neighbor isn't in the list. Under options, select
"ask before joining open network" and uncheck
"automatically add new networks to preferred networks
    list".

  • External drives and the iMAC Dual Core

I have a Maxtor III external drive. It is a Firewire 400/USB model. I installed it on the PC side of the iMAC with no problem. The PC recognized the drive and I backed up that side of the computer. When I tried to backup the MAC side, the drive wasn't recognized (the Maxter III icon is on MAC desktop). I have the Maxtor connected to the computer through the USB port. Has anyone had this experience? The Maxtor is formatted in NTFS--should I reformat in FAT32? If so, I tried that, but the program wouldn't let me reformat--there was only the NTFS format option.

Use the instructions in this document to create NTFS and Mac OS Extended partitions on the disk.
Windows XP will not give you the option to format a disk larger than 32GB as FAT32 with the built-in software, and you may run into problems if you try using a FAT32 disk to back up a Mac unless you use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create a disk image in HFS+ format.

  • My finder quits when accessing my Drobo External Hard Drive iMac Dual Core 24"

My Finder Quits Every time I access my External Drobo 8TB Firewire Drive. I have several other FireWire Drives online with it and have no problem with them. This happened soon after the 10.7.2 update. I have a lot of files on this drive. Could it be the number of files that is causing the problem? Is there a Limit onnumber of folders on the surface of a drive? Please help if you can, I am desperate to preserve my software. But I need to do something soon, Or else I will have to just reformat the drive so I can use it again. I don't really want to do that.
Thanks in advance for any comments or cures.

I had the same problem but only after I upgraded to Lion. I could see the files on my external drive on other Macs using older software. It seems that Lion wasn't seeing old files on the external drive. So we accessed the files on a Mac using Snow Leopard, copied all the files into one new folder on the same external hard drive and now they're there on Lion. Problem solved! I hope this helps

    IS THE SITUATION HOPELESS
I used Target mode to transfer files to a new i7  iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from an older Dual core Intel machine (EMC 2105) also on 10.6.8. but originally Tiger 10.4. The operation was successful and I ejected the disk icon from the new machine and powered down the old machine. When this was restarted the next day there was a grey screen with flashing Mac symbol alternating with a 'no entry' sign and occasionally a question mark.Keyboard and mouse were unusable so k inserted the original instal disc (No.1 for 10.4. with installer 1.0.4) which came with the machine in 2006 in an attempt to boot from this. The ensuing window said this was not possible and now it cannot be ejected.I have tried everything ! It offers Disk Utility and other options like Terminal but that doesn't work either.I 'repaired disk' and that was pronounced o.k. None of the various keystrokes at start up will work, and the computer will only offer the installer disc continually. The only option would seem to be is to erase the hard drive completely from the disc in the machine.I don't want to do this as there is still material which I need to recover. I think the drive has in some way been corrupted by using it in target mode, and I don't know if there are any other options to try.
Please tell me how to get this disc to eject !

Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

  • Can older dual core iMac be external monitor to new (lion) imac

If yes, how do they need to be connected and configured?

Thanks, classic II for the reply.  You are right--I should consider configuring my old Mac to be a wireless device if/when I get a new iMac, however I still would need my flash drive to have embroidery designs on it in order to get the designs into xp under bootcamp.
It was painful for me to get my dual core iMac upgraded to 1 meg for snow leopard.  I could drive 50 miles to an authorized apple person, leave my iMac and he would order and install the 2 gig memory and in addition charge me $300 to fix the cd drive that was barely off warranty or do what I did.  Local apple store would install a half Meg of memory but couldn't do the ordering.  So I ordered 500 meg memory from on line apple store, had it shipped to my house, and then had apple store install it--to get me to 1 Gig, so I could install snow leopard--I think the apple store installed it for no charge since I ordered the memory from on line apple store, and didn't have to drive 50 miles, one way--twice.
What I have is working for me, so I guess I'll just watch what happens with lion and icloudI and apple tv (and bernina v6 software which only runs under windows7 on macs) and move on to new iMac when things are settled.

  • LE 9.0 performance on Mac Mini (dual core) Vs. iMac (quad core)

I am in the process of evaluating options to replace my 2007 MBP with a faster DAW. I am on a budget so while I am looking for performance improvements over what I have, I don't need overkill either. I am considering the 2011 Mac Mini (2.5 GHz, dual core) and the 2011 iMac (2.5 GHz quad - core). Whichever configuration I choose, I will bump up RAM to 8 GB.
I use LE 9.0 and a Presonus Firestudio Project and would like to know whether what kind of performance improvements I will see between the two options I am considering. I use a lot of plugins, and an external Firewire 800 drive for recording. Obviously with the Mini, I will have to buy an optical drive as well. I already have two monitors, keyboard and mouse.
The only thing that worries me about the Mac Mini is the slower 5400 rpm hard drive. While I plan on using an external drive for recording, I am concerned because of the number of plugins and sample files that need to load during recording / playback.

  • Dual core iMac- audio

I'd like to hear from some Garageband users who are happy with their new dual core iMac. I am about to buy one, but I would love to hear from some satisfied customers!
(I'm specifially getting the iMac to use Garageband.)
    Thanks-
    Remulak

I just bought an iMac 17inch, no upgrades, just for garage band. This my first Mac, and I have been looking at them for years, but never bought becuase in the end the PC offered more value and the Mac did not have it all together IMHO.
I really feel like they do have it all now. (congrats Mr. Jobs) The system, programs, and price are near perfect. I am Mac forever!
I am a guitarist, and the program is easy to use and can do a lot. I wanted to use it to quickly record ideas, (not spend all day, setting up, and my inspiration had long passed). It is also great for practice.
I am just plugging a guitar directly in, using a old chord with, the small head phone jack (like for a old walkman) on one end, and a guitar jack on the other end (mine is actually an RCA on that end, but put a guitar jack on that).
I am using the built in speakers
Drum tracks: the loops are easy to edit, once you spend one day reading and playing around with it. Forum is great for this.
Can't be easier, and does not zap my enthusasm to record, like all other methods I have tried over the years.
    Hope that helps
