Creative Troubleshooting | Crashing when on lap | Panic report included

It sounds crazy / amateurish, however, over the course of the past two months I've been having RAM / Freezing / Crashing / Three-Beeps-of-Death issues. Over the past two weeks, I've been paying close attention to just when this is happening. It never happens while the MBP is set on a table or other solid, level surface. When I take the laptop onto my lap, boom, freezing, crashing, three beeps.
I've taken the MBP to the Genius bar twice. First visit, the hard drive was wiped, OS 10.6 was reinstalled and all was well. Until I took it off the table again. I've run diagnostics myself (Rember, Tech Tool Pro, Disk Utility, etc...) and everything comes up happy. I've removed and reinstalled the RAM (1 stick of 4GB Crucial Memory, 1 stick of 4GB original apple memory) with no change.
My thoughts are that there is a loose connection someplace between the RAM module and whatever it connects to (the logic board?). This is where my understanding of the innards of my Mac end and where your knowledge and creative troubleshooting begin. Crash report from last crash (about an hour ago) is included. Any thoughts?

Three beeps is a RAM issue, I think your RAM socket on the logicboard is ever so loose, thus causing this to occur.
I've removed and reinstalled the RAM (1 stick of 4GB Crucial Memory, 1 stick of 4GB original apple memory) with no change.
Perhaps the two RAM types are slightly out of spec from one another.
Usually Apple RAM is in two sticks to fill both slots on the machine, so you should have had 2 -2GB sticks which you needed to buy 2- 4GB matching spec modules from Crucial.
However I could be wrong, the Early 2011's did come with 2 -2GB modules, at least my machine did which I swapped for 2 -8GB modules from Crucial.
From my understanding with 64 bit machines two banks have to be filled with matching modules, you only have one Apple 4GB module, so it didn't come from the machine originally? Or did you swap one 4GB Apple for a 4GB Crucial when your machine came with 8GB total?

  • Creative Cloud Crashes When I Plug In a USB Drive

My problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud application crashes every time I plug in a USB drive.  My computer is Windows 7 64-bit.  A brief history:
    1.  I signed up for Creative Cloud and started to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop application (an upgrade to the Application Manager).  The installation failed.  I tried it again and the installation failed again.
    2.  Contacted Adobe Tech Support via live chat where the tech took over my computer and did so many things I couldn’t follow what he was doing.  He finally got the Creative Cloud desktop application to install successfully.  At least we thought so at the time.
    3.  I was then able to download Photoshop CC and Bridge CC and begin using the applications.
    4.  A day or two later I discovered the Creative Cloud application (not Photoshop or Bridge) crashes every time I plug in a USB drive.
    5.  Since then I’ve had two more chat sessions with Adobe tech support where they had me rename some folders to OOBEold and uninstall and reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop application.  The last time they had me download and try to run a Creative Cloud Cleaner, but it couldn’t find the Creative Cloud application so we couldn’t run the cleaner.  These reinstallations were unproductive as Creative Cloud still crashes when I plug in a USB drive.  It doesn’t matter if I use the USB ports on the front or the back of the computer.
Has anyone else experienced this particular issue with Creative Cloud and, if so, were you able to solve the problem?
Is there a graceful way to close the Creative Cloud application instead of using the Task Manager to end the process before I plug in a USB drive?  There is a drop-down menu by a gear icon in the upper right of the application window that has Preferences and Quit Creative Cloud as two of the options.  What does the option “Quit Creative Cloud” actually mean?  Are you just closing the application or are you doing something more serious?  Under preferences there is an option that is selected by default to Launch at login.  What does “Launch at login” mean?  Does it mean when the computer starts up or when you actually go to Adobe and login to your account or something else?
Thank you very much for any suggestions.

    Dave,
Thanks for your reply.  After four very lengthy tech support chat sessions, the last tech support person (30 July, 2013) suggested that it was probably some sort of conflict with the drivers for the USB ports on my Dell computer.  The case number you requested is still open and is:  0184509373.
I spent a lot of time during the last tech chat trying to determine a graceful way to quit the application before using any USB devices.  Just clicking on the X to close the window does not close the application as it still shows up as an active process in Windows Task Manager.  Our conversation kept getting confused between the Creative Cloud application and the more global Creative Cloud and which you were quitting or logging out of.  Adobe should have kept the name “Application Manager” for the application.
After experimenting, I’ve devised the following work around.  It’s a nuisance, but it seems to work a little better than just crashing the application.  I open the Creative Cloud desktop application and choose “Quit Creative Cloud.”  I can then use a USB device without a crash.  After disconnecting the USB device, I restart the Creative Cloud application by double clicking on the icon on my desktop.  Finally, I can use Photoshop CC and Bridge.  If I don’t restart the Creative Cloud application first, Photoshop asks me to register the software again.  This puzzles me as I didn’t think the Creative Cloud application had to be running in order to use Photoshop.
Thanks for your attention and assistance.

  • All video applications crash when loading a video. Including web browsers, vlc and quick time

Last night chrome started crashing when trying to load a youtube video. I tried on safari and then downloaded firefox but they crashed too blaming flash player. Then when i tried to play a video using vlc that crashed too and so did quick time. Nothing will play in any application.
I've tried reinstalling the browsers, uninstalling and reinstalling flash player, repairing disk permissions, starting in safe mode and installing avast to scan for malware but none of these have made any difference. I haven't installed any updates since the last time it was working
When verifying the disk permissions i get the following and no matter how many times i repair them it says the same thing

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 crashes when mousepointer comes into report area

    Hello,
Since last week I have a problem with the Crystal Report application for Visual Studio 2010. When I create a new Crystal report project, and move my mouse into the report design area Visual Studio crashes. If I stay out of this area I can launch my report and see the loaded data in the report, everything else in VS works, but as soon as I move my mouse into the report design area it crashes VS.
When I debug I get the following exception:

The strange thing is that just before my holiday everything worked fine, I have made a report without any problems, the week after my holiday (last week) suddenly I get this exception and can't design any report anymore.
At the forum I found similiar posts, I have followed some advice in these posts but nothing helped. I have done the following:
    - Reinstalled Crystal Reports;
    - Repaired the Visual Studio installation, by running the installer and installed Crystal Reports again;
    - Downloaded and repaired the C++ Redistributable package;
    - Set folder permission of the project folder to Everyone;
    - Download DebugDiag 1.1 and inspect the crash dump for any problems. I am not very familiar with this, thus I can't tell if there's a problem here.
This software comes with the error:

Please let me know how I can resolve this problem.

    mmmm Very interesting....
We know GDIPlus has bugs in it, I've logged a few bugs now for font rendering issues and each time the Developers come back and say it's a bug in Microsoft's GDIPlus and we can't work around it.
I've never heard of this happening by simply moving the mouse over the viewer. Sorry I assumed it was as we have noted in the Kbase articles. It was one of those strange tasks when quickly moving the mouse over the report objects....
Looking over our code we hook into the mouse events and  which is also part of the Video drivers in a low level so it's likely a combination of your video card drivers and hardware.
What Video card are you using and have you tried updating them?
A great tool is called BelArc Advisor, and it's free, to scan your hardware and get all of the info.
If it's that bad and you are still having problems after updating your video card drivers I suggest you log a case with Microsoft to look into the issue. We can get the PDB's for you if they need them to help debug the problem.
    Thanks
    Don
PS - Unfortunately the 2 guys who have done most of the work with the mouse movement problem are off on holidays for a few weeks but likely this is the same problem, just more severe in your case.

  • Illustrator CS6 creative cloud crashes when saving

I downloaded Illustrator as part of my creative cloud subscription.
Today when I opened a file I worked on for hours last night, an error message with a lot of unreadable characters showed up.  I relaunched it and redid the work.  Then I went to save, and it crashed with the same error message.
Then it asked me to sign in, saying I was using a trial version, even though I was signed in and had been using it.  So I sign in again, make the changes again, save, and it crashes again.  When I open the file, the layers have been altered so that everything is now on one layer.
This is crazy and is costing me a lot of valuable work.
    Please help.

    Hey Everyone.
Mylenium and Designer - Im using Mac OSX Lion, CS6 downloaded from Creative Cloud.  I can send a snapshot of the error message when I get back into the office.  In terms of workflow, I had worked all night on a project, saved it and had no issue.  The next day when I went to open the file it gave an error message which I'll send and then prompted me to login and now said I was using a trial version.  I logged in again, recreated the work I had done, and when I went to save it, the same error message came up, and it again said I was in a trial version and wasnt logged in.  I logged in again, it worked, and when I opened the file the layers had all been rearraged so that essentially all my assets were on a single layer.  Thats when I started reaching out to support.
Wade - not sure your question is necessarily the obvious question, nor where your assumptions about what I did and didnt do are coming from, but since you asked, I contacted support 3 times before coming on here, and they were a dead end.  First I called phone support, had them call me back, and the overseas call center was a series of unrelated questions followed by a disconnection.  Chat support started to help me, but after asking two questions, also seemingly unrelated, told me I would have to call phone support for this issue.  I called them a second time, explained the issue in detail, was told they needed 3-4 minutes to research the issue.  I waited 40 minutes on hold before hanging up.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Dreamweaver CS5.5 crashes when saving link checker report in Results Window

Select Top level of site. Right click. Select:Check Links > Entire Local Site.
Report completes and displays in Results Window.
Can scroll through the onscreen report and view Broken Links, External Links, and Orphan Files.
However, when try to save, Dreamweaver crashes.
Multiple users on my team with their own instances of Dreamweaver have experienced the same result.
Have tried recreating preferences folder, rebooting, etc. etc.
Any other ideas as how to proceed?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Exactly the same problem here. Started using Find and Replace on a html file which loads 2 css and  2 js files. Find and replace slows the program and finally it hangs. Restarting (and loosing all your prev work) worked a couple of times and then DW hangs when starting up. I couldn't do anything anymore.
The solution, for me, was starting DW and immediately pressing the shift key. In that way DW opens clean, without the prev files.
    Up and running again.

  • Oracle crashes when trying to pull reports into Excel

We are using Oracle 806 with Designer 2000 to pull reports into excel (office 2003).
Here is the issue, when we try to pull the report into Excel the report pulls and it puts it in the tmapps/files folder, but excel does not open and oracle crashes.
We also tested it with office 07 with the same results.
    What could be causing this?
Let me know if there is any other information I can provide to help you help me.
    thank you!

If by "oracle crashes" you mean the DB, then there are trace/dump files that the DBA can find that will help to identify the cause of the crash. If you mean Designer, I have no experience there.
Regardless, consider newer versions/alternatives to both since they are both very dated (10 years at least) by this point.

Thanks for the very good link. I also posted this on the OS 10.4 discussion and many of same things on this link looked appropriate. Certainly disabling extensions seemed to make the box behave but that limited my ability to do lots of things and it was not obvious how to turn on each extension one at a time. There were no other oddball peripherals attached. Various hardware tests using memtest and Hardware Test looked very good. Finally, I disabled the silly iDisk thing (it was giving me a variety of snarky messages) and all of a sudden switching users (which was the standard mechanism to crash the box) changed from a two minute proposition to about 4 seconds. So for now, I'm gonna blame this iDisk thing which I never use anymore anyway and which I understand seems to have been "deprecated". Beware the iDisk!!

  • VM crash when calling crystal report in java

    =======
    REPOST

We experience a serious problem when try to develop a crystal report application that run at Sun Solaris 10. Our program is to export pdf from crystal report. The program will always got VM crash when open the crystal report or export the crystal report (but it's not 100% happened, it will always happen when we second time open the same report). I got no problem when run my program in the windows XP. May anyone help on it?
Below see the coding and the VM crash message:

This is a problem of the VM itself. You will need to address the issue at SUN forums.

  • VM crash when calling crystal report in java (Unix)

We experience a serious problem when try to develop a crystal report application that run at Sun Solaris 9. Our program is to export pdf from crystal report. The program will always got VM crash when open the crystal report (but it's not 100% happened, it will always happen when we second time open the same report). I got no problem when run my program in the windows XP or another unix machine of Solaris 8. The report path is correct, but don't know why it will crash when open the report. May anyone help on it?

According to the documentation for interpreting hotspot logs, the following can be determined from yours:
"An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
    Internal Error (53484152454432554E54494D450E43505001A8 01), pid=28689, tid=1
Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.5.0_13-b05 mixed mode)"
When the HotSpot VM generates an internal error it is referring to a line of code in your application.  The hexidecimal string is encoding the source module and line number where the error occurs.
    "Current thread (0x000386f0): JavaThread "main" threadin_Java, id=1"
Essentially means that the JavaThread is running interpreted or compiled code when the error occurs.
The rest of the hotspot identifies what the thread has done up to this point.... even though to you it appears that it fails on the open method, it looks like it is actually failing after the setDataSource method call.
I would suggest that you look at other logs, ie: application server logs, Solaris message logs, database logs to see if you can identify where things actually fall apart.  The first place to start would be the database connectivity because it appears that is the last thing that gets generated in the log file.

Just to make sure, are all the faces of the Verdana and Tahoma fonts installed and enabled/activated through the OS (not font mangement) as TTF (not OTF)?

However, the panic reports are gibberish to me, so I was hoping that someone could interpret this latest report for me and perhaps confirm my very unofficial diagnoses? Thanks in advance!
