Creative vision M - duplicate songs and s

I got the Vision M 30 gig for Christmas and so far its been pretty awesome..it works, transfers well, the media source program works, ripping was easy and went well. My problem is i have some songs that have the same name..but are from different bands. When i tried to transfer from my PC library to my Vision M...it wouldnt transfer both songs because they have the same name.. it would leave me with the screen
O Skip this file
O skip All duplicate files
O Replace this file
O Replace all duplicate files
I would just like it to transfer all my songs regardless if they are "duplicates"
Oh..i've also tried renaming the songs..such as "Elegy" and "Elegy2" still wont work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

i went into my docs, my music and clicked "rename file"...i renamed the files that were named the same. The names didnt change on media source, which i thought was good, because i was changing the file name not the name. I went and selected all tracks..pushed the button --> from my library to the vision M and when it came to the same named tracks it brought up that same option "replace, skip" yadda yadda...so that didnt work. I right clicked the song and went to properties and it says the name is "forever.mp3" which is the same as another song...but i changed the name in my documents but it must not have in the media source. There is no way to in the media source either..or at least not that i found. Ugh...pain in the butt. Thanks for the help...any other suggestions?

  • Duplicate songs and sync fail

I tried syncing my iPod Classic and accidentally created duplicates of ALL my songs. I have hundreds of songs in my iTunes library. None of the new music I purchased successfully syncing and now my iPod Classic only has a small number of songs to listen to. How can I organize my iTunes library so it only displays a song once and most importantly, how can I sync my new purchased music successfully?

    Hello Shanette,
You may want to set up your iPod classic to manually manage the music.  That way, you can just drag the new songs to the iPod and also search for and delete duplicates.
This box would need to be checked if you are manually managing content over to your iPod:
You can find the full article here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
Once you have that enabled and your iPod selected, you can use iTunes' feature of showing duplicate items so that you can see them all at once and delete the duplicates that you want to remove:
Choose File > Display Duplicates to show duplicate items (matches are based on the song name and artist). If you have multiple versions of the same song (for example, live and studio versions, or versions from different albums) you can hold the Alt or Option key (for Mac OS X) or the Shift key (for Windows) and choose File > Display Exact Duplicates. This will show only duplicate songs having the same name, artist, and album.
If you are using iTunes 11 (the latest version of iTunes at this time), you will need to go to View>Show Duplicate Items (you can hold Alt or Option here as well to get the Show Exact Duplicate Items option).  You can find the full article here:
How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2905
This should help you identify the duplicates all at one time so that you can delete the extra versions of songs.  I hope this helps get you back on track!
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Duplicate Songs and Links to Playlists

Hi. I have many instances of this problem: I've imported a song from an original album as well as a greatest hits collection, and I have them in different playlists. Does anyone know how to delete one of the songs from the Library and automatically have both playlists point to and use the same song? Deleting one of them now also deletes it from its corresponding playlist. It sure would be helpful if, in my Library, I could see a directory of all songs and the playlists that use them. Thanks.

Go to Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes (web search will turn it up quick) and there you will find at least one, if not others, scripts to help find and group duplicates to ease quick deletion.

  • Will Match remove duplicate songs and duplicate albums and make them into one?

I have a ton of songs and albums that are like that. Some albums have differnet artwork too. Will match compare these to itunes and make them all unified?

The only exception is that If it finds an *exact* duplicate (tags and all), it will not upload it; however, it will still leave both copies in your original library (one will have a little cloud with a line through it next to it).

  • HT2905 Deleting songs, duplicate songs, and renaming songs

On my iTunes I am unable to delete any songs from my iPhone, nor am I able to select the 'Display Duplicates' or Delete them either. I can't even rename a song!
Things I have tried for deleting songs:
    Shift+CTRL+Delete
    Delete button
Looking under settings on both my iPhone and iTunes for an option to enable the above problems in the opening
I have deleted the songs in both the downloads folder that my songs go to, and from the iTunes music (This deleted the songs from that but not my actual iPhone music).
Right Clicking the song and looking for delete option (no such option exists under the 'Devices' portion of iTunes)
Things I have tried for duplicate songs:
Right clicking the song and looking for delete option (again no such option exists)
Tried clicking the 'Display Duplicate' option but iTunes has it blocked and I am unable to click it (faded grey colour)
Things I have tried for renaming songs:
Right clicking the song>Get Info>Info and I can't click on anything it's all blocked
Double clicking song title still unable to edit the song like I used to be able to do in previous iTunes
    Triple clicking song title
Hoping someone can help me with these issues as this is very frustrating,
    KelseyP91.

If your iPhone syncs with iTunes you need to tidy up in iTunes, then sync, not try to edit the content of the iPhone manually within iTunes.
I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this thread for background.
If the device has duplicates, but iTunes doesn't, then you can swipe and delete all duplicated items directly on the iPhone, then sync with iTunes to put the songs back onto the device. One of the iTunes build seem to have the potential to leave orphaned tracks on the device which are then not cleared up by further syncing.

  • Will iTunes select all exact duplicate songs and delete each duplicate?

I have about 20K exact duplicates and would like to have iTunes select and remove one dulicalte of each song to avoid manually selecting ever other song and removing.  Possible?

Itunes will not do that.  You can check third party utilties such as Dupin (Duplin?).  I would not trust any utilty to automatically delete duplicates. There's a few tracks I have on albums where they are given the identical name but are not identical. A tool would not tell that.
iTunes will find duplicates, but then it's up to you to decide if they truly are.  Be careful. Occasionally an item somehow gets listed twice and if you delete the "duplicate" plus file it deletes the orginal too.  I always hand sort duplicates.

  • HT2905 Duplicate songs and syncing.

    Two questions:
    1)  I have the latest version of itunes and it has duplicated all my songs - 3500.  The only advice I can find is how to delete them one at a time, not feasible with 3500.  Does anyone know a solution to this?
    2)  Is there any chance that Apple will show any respect to its customers anytime soon?  I don't want to sync my iTunes, I want to choose which songs that I have paid for that I put on the iPhone that I have paid for from the Macbook that I have paid for.  Is there an alternative to iTunes, because the recent change to syncing is utterly terrible. My iPhone is so full of music that I can't take a single photo, because iTunes synced it.  I am unable to rectify this, I think because I have seleceted albums (I am not allowed to select songs because apparently that is forbidden in this new age) but those albums have been duplicated by iTunes, which means it simply says the new sync can't happen because there isn't enough space on the iPhone.  This despite the fact that the little bar at the bottom of the screen that shows the memory used is only about at half of the 16G memory.  Very bored with this now.

If your iPhone syncs with iTunes you need to tidy up in iTunes, then sync, not try to edit the content of the iPhone manually within iTunes.

  • Duplicate songs and movies purchase??

Hello everyone, I have a huge problem paying APPLE more than whay I should.
I keep buying the same songs via iTunes!!!
iTunes is stupid enough to only tell me I have that specific song if it's exactly the same album, but for every single song there is a DUPLICATE OR MORE in different albums !!!
I don't understand why don't I have the option to be notified!!!
They should notify me even if the second song is a few seconds longer/shorter, I would still not buy it considering I have one version in the first place !
This is also valid for MOVIES ...
I have about 200 movies in my Apple TV library (and iTunes) and so many times Apple won't notify me that I wanna buy the same movie (with just slighly different name, like). This feels like a rip off .. 20$ for one click. I know it's my mistake, but I feel Apple should help me out with that.
    Thank you for any help

  • Duplicate songs on import

I have seen other posts on this whereby the advice was to highlight the duplicate song and then clear. When you are bringing in a thousand songs or more and they are duplicating this is a huge deal. I had Creative Sound Labs equipment before. It was a lot more versatile. They had an automatic search and update fuction which would search selected files for new songs and automatically bring them into the library. You could also search and delete duplicates with the touch of one button. Assuming that I-tunes doesn't have this type of functionality, is there any chance we can actually send I-tunes an e-mail suggesting they give Creative Sound Labs a call for some tips? ha ha
Seriously...I am finding this very frustrating.

A new library doesn't automatically see music that you'd like in it, even if you set the iTunes Music folder location to an existing music folder. (That just tells the library where to put new music that you rip or download.) You have to Add your music to the library, just like you did with the first library.
Yes, you could keep a special library for the iPhone using the same music folder as the first library, but PT is right. It's much simpler to maintain a special playlist within your current library for syncing to the iPhone.

  • Automatically deduping duplicate songs - is it possible?

I copied my libary from a laptop to my PC, using an external hard drive to transfer the files. Somehow almost all, but not every song, was duplicated once or even twice on the hard drive, but i did not know this until i'd impoted the contents onto my PC.
When I go into "show duplicate songs" i get the list of dupes, but have to delete the dupes manually (time consuming). Is there a way of automatically deleteing anything that itunes suspects may be a dupe?
I can't simply start again because I no longer have the laptop, the only place with my libary is my hard drive (dupes and all).

I know my friend has had duplicate songs on his computer and found a program that will scan your hard drive for duplicate songs and allow you to verify and delete. (http://noclone.net/Duplicate_Mp3.asp) The problem in the library is probably solved the way you already are doing it. Allow iTunes to find the copies and select them all and delete them. If you do scan your drive and delete dupes, then you can delete your entire library and re-import all the non-duplicate songs.

  • How do I get rid of the duplicate songs without getting rid of the mp3 version of the song?

I have a library of CDs in several years back I downloaded them into my hard drive on another computer into Windows media player. For whatever reason Windows media player continued to duplicate songs and there's a great deal of space being taken up on my hard drive by songs that I want to identify as duplicated and remove while at the same time keeping at least one copy in MP3 format. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First see this thread on getting Windows Media Player to play nicely with iTunes.
Next use iTunes Folder Watch to add in any disconnected media files that are still in your media folders.
Now use my script DeDuper to remove all but one copy of each duplicated file.
