Creative ways to use Remote

Is there some software that allows one to use the MacBook Pro remote in more creative ways other than with Front Row? For instance, how about using it to snap pictures?

Thanks! These are great ways of using the Remote! I wanted to mark all responses as "helpful" but apparently the system is created in such a way that I can only mark two responses as helpful and the other one as solved. And that's it.
Anyhow....any more responses? I'm getting my MBP in about 2 weeks (or less) and am curious as to how else I can use my remote.

  • How can I use remote app in a dorm?

I have the most recent version of the remote app for my iPhone 4S, and I'd like to control the iTunes on my 2010 MacBook Pro, but I am in a dorm, so I only have access to the communal "ResHall" wifi. Both my computer and my phone are on this network, but they will not recognize one another. I have turned Home Sharing on and off on both (in different orders as well, i.e. turn both off, turn homesharing on MacBook on first vs. on iPhone first), as well as verified that they are using the same Apple ID. My MacBook's firewall is already set to allow incoming data to iTunes. The router IP address is the same for both machines. Is there any quick (or not so quick, I'm open to anything at this point) way to use remote in a dorm like this?

    Hey Ajthebassist,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having difficulty pairing the Remote app with iTunes. This article may be able to help in this situation.

Sorry, maybe I don't understand, but why do you feel compelled to subscribe to CC if you already have a permanent Lightroom 5 licence?
For the SmugMug plugin, a simple Google search ("smugmug lightroom plugin") gives this link to download the plugin:  http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/121321
Another way is to click the button "Find more services online..." in the the Publish Service section of Lightroom, and to search for SmugMug in the Adobe Add-ons portal; you will find a link to the latest plugin: https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/1755

Is there any way to increase the font size in the Creative Cloud. Using a Lenovo Yoga 2 with 14" screen and care barely see the menus.

In short, no. There is no fix yet. They only barely acknowledge there is a problem. The "fix" is to enable 200% UI scaling which makes everything comically huge and unusable. This is pretty much of a joke. A really, really EXPENSIVE joke.

You cannot remotely undo a remote lock nor remotely unlock it.

  • Creative Cloud - restricting use of older versions and forcing use of latest versions - NO THANKS!

I am a long-time customer of Adobe Products.  I have a unique roll as a Graphics management position, while also functioning as our company's IT administrator.  At home, for messing around, sure, creative cloud could be usable,  however, in my fairly demanding work environment, we encounter issues like OSX compatibility, occasionally needing to work from a PC, opening files from 2005, and relying on a specific workflows our business has built on foundations like Distiller PDF workflows etc.  When you force upgrades to newer versions, you dissuade us from being interested in the Creative Cloud platform.  It's really a shame, because small businesses like ours would benefit a lot from a neccesary "subscription"  so the newest adobe products are always available, where otherwise, convincing our company owner that a fairly pricey upgrade is neccesary because of a given set of features.  If the features aren't something the owner sees as a neccesity, there is really no reason for us to upgrade, so we drag things out.  For example, we are still on CS3 right now, and we will be making the jump to CS6 out of neccesity (CS3 will not allow us to edit old pagemaker files that have suddenly become our responsibility without crashing, where the CS6 trial handled it wonderfully).
The creative cloud is a nice thought that would overcome a lot of 'upgrade' obsticles in the long-term for those of us in the small-business venture, but the version restrictions are too harsh.  In the accounting world there is a general rule that you can expunge data older than 7 years old, but if you get rid of that data before those 7 years are up you often find yourself in trouble.  Software is often the same way when you work with such a wide-array of tools as the adobe creative suite provides.  We essentially end up with what equates to a giant database of images, videos, and other files of misc origin and formats that we need a way to manage.  If we encounter problems (Much like I did recently where CS3 would not open the pagemaker files) and know we can count on another version of that same software (CS6, in this case) to open those same files, then why would you ever want to take those options away from a customer?  We will be paying the same fee regardless of what old versions we use, and while in the scenerio I give, the newer version of the software is the resolution to the problem, there is an equal liklihood of encountering a scenerio where the newer software wont allow me to open a file, but the older version will.
I just don't understand, what's the harm?  You don't need to "support" those old versions, but they should ALWAYS be available for download and use on systems that can use them, ESPECIALLY in the style of environment you are offering where the old versions won't appeal to everyone, so it won't waste bandwidth or require a tremendous ammount of storage & serving on your part.
What gives adobe?  I want Creative Cloud to succeed as much as you!  But I need it to work for me!

    Hi Fujilives,
I copied this from the Creative Cloud FAQ
Q:I am a Creative Cloud member using the CS6 applications included in my membership. Will I lose access to CS6 when CS7 becomes available in Creative Cloud? A: No, if you have downloaded and installed the CS6 versions of the applications, you will continue to have access to them without interruption as long as your membership remains active. When the CS7 versions become available, you will have up to a year to download and install them and they will run on your machine along with CS6 versions.
So we are planning to give users access to and the ability to use the versions they started with even after new versions come out (you don't have to upgrade) but it wasn't possible to include access to older versions with the launch of this product (that I'm aware of). But I understand the need for some users to have access to older verisons based on your explanation. I'll pass along your feedback.

  • How to set up my elderly parent with Mac so that I can use remote access to help her?

I want to set my elderly mother up with a new Mac mini so that I can use remote access to show her how use email, browse the internet, share photos.  (She lives in KY, I live in OR)
She has had an iPhone and an iPad for about 6 months and she can barely use them without becoming frustrated.   I want to be able to see her screen with her and show her how to do things.
My plan is to set her up with a Mac mini and I'll use my MacBookAir to remote into her system.  I'm buying the mini to configure and then I'll mail it to her.
My question is whether to try to use Back to My Mac or Teamviewer for remote access
I have broadband with comcast and she has broadband with Access Cable.  Each have their company modem/routers--neither of us have Airport Express.
I have my own iCloud account and she has her own.   If I use Back to My Mac, it seems that I would need to set up a separate account on my Mac that would sync to her iCloud account.
Teamviewer seems easier because I don't have to use a separate account.   Any advice?   Anything that I'm not thinking about?

As Linc says, you can establish a Screen Sharing session via iMessage and Facetime.  The advantage of these 2 approaches is that once your Mom gets used to using them, she will be more comfortable using them to communicate with you.  I've talked to my Mom via iChat (aka iMessage) more since she learned to use them, then in all the years before that (including when I was a child ).  And just being able to see your Mom via Facetime can be useful when you want to gage how she is doing.
However, if you are any distance from your Mom, they you want backup methods incase something goes wrong.
So beside iMessage/Facetime, the next best would be Back-to-My-Mac via iCloud, however, you will want to establish her Mac as using your account so that you have the right to take control remotely.
An alternative that does not mix up your iCloud acounts would be to use TeamViewer.com (which has an unattended mode so you can do off-hour maintenance when your Mom is not around; or check up on her to find out if she is dating - Turns out if I had been paying attention, I would not have been blind-sided by my Mom getting Married again last Summer - she is in her 80's! ).
LogMeIn.com, as dwb says, can be used the same was as TeamViewer.com
Both LogMeIn.com and TeamViewer.com are very good at making it easy to get through the home router and if you are having any problems connecting using other Methods, TeamViewer.com or LogMeIn.com will most likely not have any issues.
Back-to-My-Mac allows screen sharing and file sharing so you can transfer files as well as control the screen.
Screen Sharing via Messages allows cooperative file transfer. That is to say, you can try pushing a file to your Mom, but she has to accept each transfer.
TeamViewer.com has an unattended file transfer mode.
LogMeIn.com requires the paid version to transfer files.  However, there are other ways to transfer files, such as downloading them from the original source on your Mom's system while using screen sharing, using Dropbox (or similar), emailing them, etc...
Of course if you are really network savvy, you can roll your own via ssh tunnels, port forwarding routers, getting dynamic DNS names, transferring files via scp, or tunneling AFP file sharing, tunneling your screen sharing sessions.  Lots of fun and excitement playing with terminal commands

  • Report hangs when using Remote Desktop

I am having trouble with Crystal Reports 11. I was wondering if there is a known issue when using it in conjuction with Remote Desktop.
    Here is the scenario.
I am using Remote Desktop to connect to a server.
I am running a report using Crystal Reports 11.
The records have already been retrieved (approx. 800,000 records) and is printing - slowly.
It takes around 75 minutes for the report to print 12 pages.
If the Remote Desktop connection is closed, then re-established, the Crystal Reports pops up a message box stating "Not Supported". The pages of data the were previously printed are now blank. (For example: if it was on page 1 of 9+ it will go back to 1 of 1+ and the page will be blank.)
If I use a VPN to connect to the network, then use the Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the server, the connection will periodically disconnect and the re-establish. This does not occur when not using Crystal Reports.
Is there a problem with using Crystal Reports with Remote Desktop? Is there a better way to run my reports remotely?
    Thanks for any input.

  • How can I display more info using remote app?

    Hi there,
I use remote app a lot, but I find it quite basic in the display features.
I mean: remote is great to browse my music library and play songs with on my living room hi-fi while I'm sitting comfortable on my sofa.
But what if I would like to know the release date of the album, the name of the composer, and so on?
Is there any way to configure the remote app to display more?
Is any kind of new release of the app on its way?
    Thank you.

Command (right) - click on a photo in the Photo tray and select Small Photo from the contextual menu:
This will give you two columns of photos.
To reduce the number of photos to select from one can select only Unplaced Photos to be displayed in the tray.

  • Play my songs on two computers using remote

Here is the skinny. I have music (public domain) for my students (K teacher) plus my own music in my library at home. It all syncs with my iphone. Works well.
Now school is starting. And with the new version 2.0 software I've found and LOVE the REMOTE program.
I'd like to be able to play my music at school through a workstation in the corner of the room, using REMOTE.
    Questions:
    1) I put itunes on a computer in my classroom. When I put my iphone on the computer it synced my photos to teh computer but said if I continued it would erase my library on the phone and replace it with the blank library. It appears to be saying I can have my library only on one computer. I think.
    2) I don't care if the info is duplicated. I don't need it to be although that would be nice. The real questions are ...
2a) Can I have a library at school with the music for my kids and a separate one at home for me, and then sync to the separate libraries?
2b) Can I control the speakers on my school computer thru itunes there as well as the speakers on my home computer thru itunes there? I'm assuming the music that REMOTE plays must reside on teh computer it is syncing to and it isn't just sent from the iphone thru a 'feed'.
I suppose a more round-about way fo asking this might be this. If I came to your house and turned on remote would it allow me to play your itunes music through your speakers (assuming you put my access code into your puter)?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this was too much info. I'm a newbie and this my first post. I've searched for hours but found nothing. It might be that REMOTE is just that new. Or I'm looking in the wrong place. I'm not sure. I can't imagine there aren't thousands of people who want to play their music thru speakers both at home and work .... so????

  • Syndication Search Using Remote System

Is there a way to use the Key Mapping's remote system as part of the search criteria for syndication?
I am not referring to the map property that allows you to suppress records that do not have a remote key.
For example, only send records when "remote system = DEV_100".
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi,
When you create a map you have already defined the remote system for which is getting created and you have mapped key and name of that in the syndicator mapping.Suppose you craeted a map fro remote system DEV04
Now when you only want to syndicate the records for this remote system then you should define only this as a output remote systems and then if you have supressed records without key, then only records pertaining to the DEV04 system which have key will get syndicated and not others
    Thanks
