Creative Zen 32GB White Screen

I've started having a problem in the last 2 days with my Creative Zen 32GB. I've had the player since July 2010. The only problems I've really had with the player have been some minor freeze-ups, but other than that, everything else has been smooth sailing.
The other day, my player froze up to a black screen while the power-on button was still on. I let the battery run out as I didn't have anything near by to help reset the player. I charged the unit some and tried turning on the player, but I had to still reset the player. I then began getting a white screen. After another hard reset and plugging in my USB to charge it, it came back on, but I've been having problems keeping a charge on the player. I charged the player to 100% and turned it off, but the next morning when I tried to turn it on, it was dead again.
Is this a problem with the battery? My player isn't under warranty anymore, but I like it and want to keep it. I just want to make sure this is the problem before I start asking for repairs or anything. Anybody else had problems with this?

Tried charging it with 2 cables. I think the battery just can't hold its charge anymore. It'll hold for about 12-16 hours, but when I wake up the next morning and try to turn it on, it's dead.
What's the best way about getting this replaced? Is it possible to still pay for Creative to service it (since it's out of warranty), and if not, is there anywhere else I can send this to get it serviced?

  • Creative Zen 8GB - White screen!! UK resident experience - pls post yours with advi

Having decided upon the 8GB Creative Zen I was very looking forward to giving this to my son..
good price.. good spec.. looks very neat too and then it worked for all of 5 mins on Christmas day.
The poor lad he'd been looking forward to his present for ages..
I loaded all software/firmware correctly.. charged for 4hours as stated.
The 'recovery tool' on this website is simply a tool that updates the firmware again.. well Ive done that 4 times now and completely re-booted the device with NO joy.
ALL I get is a white screen when its turns on.
I've also tried using a paper clip to re-boot.
What do I do? - send it back and receive another zen and run the risk of the same issue.. or simply look for a new mp3/mp4 device around the 00-40 UK pound price range.
This issue seems to be all over the internet.. i've seen it on amazon forums and this forum and in places such as UK and USA.
I am now going to try and load some older firmware onto the device if I can and see if that works..
    I'll post if it does.
    anyone got any suggestions/experiences?
    Thanks

  • Creative Zen 32GB - Is it Dead?

Hi. I bought a Creative Zen 32gb Flash player in January 2009.
It was mostly OK for the first year or so. By then, it was almost full.
Last summer, it began crashing on me every so often. I assumed it was just because it was almost full, but as time went on it crashed more and more.
Sometimes it would play slightly garbled songs, almost like in the good old days when your cassette deck would chew up your D-90s.
When using the locking function, it would crash completely, requiring the judicious use of a pin to reset it.
Then it would crash when plugging it into headphones or the cable connecting to my AUX port on my car stereo.
The other day, it crashed and I thought - right, its been going a couple of years now, I'll back it up and then go into recovery mode, clean up the memory and then reboot, as recommended in the user guide. I tried backing up the player but it got about halfway through and crashed out.
I then thought to hell with it - I've got most of my music backed up anyway, and the clean up might not mess with it too much, so I tried to follow the cleanup instructions but everytime I let go of the Play button, it would crash out.
If I held the play button down, it would work, but the buttons are so close together, if I changed pressure on the play button while selecting "clean up", it would crash out. Still, I thought I'd managed it but it would not restart or dock, or pretty much do anything except let me go into recovery mode (while pressing Play, of course).
I then thought I'd just reformat the player - again, through the recovery menu since it would not dock with my PC (Win Vista, 32bit). That made no difference. It would not start, would not dock etc etc.
I then thought I would upgrade the firmware, downloaded it from Creative, and managed to get it to go so far, before it crashed out. And that's it - I can just about get it to start, sometimes, and then the screen will go black, or white, or red and black striped once. It will not dock at all. I can press reset as much as I like but the best I can get it to do is get to the recovery menu for a few seconds before crashing, or I can get it to display the Creative logo for a few seconds before, again, it crashes.
Its sat right now with a black screen and the blue light on. I cannot turn it off, or get any response from it at all.
So, is this now a dead mp3 player? Is it likely a hardware fault? If firmware/software, is there any way to fix this or should I just chalk this up to experience and accept that ?60 odd of mp3 player just isn't built to last very long?
And if its dead, what to replace it's I want Creative stuff to be better than it seems to be, and I am loathe to buy iPod. Sony? Wife has one and its fine, but not enough storage. Any recommendations?

I've had my Zen32GB for a year and have loved it up to this morning. I added a few photos to it and now its been stuck in "Rebuilding" for the last two hours. I can dock it and get into it, copy files, etc, but it will not play. I have been using a handy pin to reset it, then it goes back into Rebuilding. It doesn't appear to be a hardware problem as the buttons were working fine. A lost cause?
On the recovery mode screen, can you try doing a CleanUp>Reboot?

  • Creative Zen 32GB won't turn on, won't reset, won't do anyth

    1. Make sure to state what player you have, and the firmware version. No idea the firmware version, the Zen won't turn on. I have the Creative Zen 32GB, bought in April, 2008.
    2. What you have tried so far to solve the problem.Plugged it in using the USB port to the computer. Tried the reset hole. It won't turn on or respond or do anything.
    5. Also add any other information that relates to the problem. The more information you give the more likely the problem will be solved quickly. Last week, I had to do the 'clean up' option after using the reset pin hole and another problem was fixed (that problem was that none of the music files were able to be seen via my computer). Then it worked fine, but now it won't turn on or do anything. The last thing I did was upload songs to it using Explorer, and re-labeling individual tracks by cleaning up names, album names, etc. Help, plz!?

i just got back from the mall.i visited the electroworld branch from which i purchased my zen. i explained to them what my problem is, at first they recharged the player in a usb port in front of me...then they also reformatted it too...told me to stick to the firmware that came with the product..the player responded and thanked them..but hr later, it blacked out again..i came back to the store manager showed him my zen ( he couldnt deny it doesnt have a problem ) and within minutes told me...they are going to give me a replacement. (the diagnosis was AUTO-OFF). they did and im very thankful. right now im charging the new player and hoping...i mean really hoping that this zen works. because im not going to waste my time again even with that warranty. if this zen is defecti've, im gonna li've with its defect..but im going to save up for the fruit's company in my next purchase..better yet why not a new pda...i can play music files in it, watch movies, save medical books etc..

  • Creative Zen 32GB - how do I remove blank FM presets???

How do I remove blank presets from the FM list? I have about 20 stations set up as presets but the other 2 blank ones are still there. Delete doesn't delete them. All delete does is to erase the station from a preset that has a station programmed into it. I want them GONE so that when I sequence through the station presets I don't have to go through the 2 blank ones to get to the next good one. If this is not possible, holy cow, what an oversight on the part of the programmers! Please tell me this can be done!
This is for a Creative Zen 32GB. Not a Zen V or a Zen XFi. Just a Zen. Just a plain Zen.
    Thank you.

Wow. That's very odd indeed. Seems pretty logical to be able to do that. There's no way I could program in 32 stations and I li've in a major radio market. There are not 32 stations I'd ever be interested in listening to around here and I don't even think there are that many even on the air. Again, since that's software related, please put that in a firmware update.

  • Creative Zen 32GB Disply Brightness never chan

I have a creative ZEN 32GB and i recently discovered that the brightness never changes, its alway at 0% i've tried setting it to 00% but there is not difference between 0% 50% or 00% im not sure what might be the problem. I have also tried upgrading the firmware to the lates one but it hasnt fixed anything. Has anyone had this problem or know what to do?!

Well not its no that i dont know how to work my MP3 at first thats what i thought that i wasnt selecting it right but i have tried everything on the menu but it doesnt change i think i'll just end up getting the new X-Fi Zen player....but is the Wi-Fi feture really worth the extra money. What is so special about it, there's not much out there that showes what the wi-fi can do =?

  • Menu Lag/Slowdown on the Creative Zen 32gb??

    Hey guys,
So I recently bought a Creative Zen 32gb and for the most part it is GREAT!
The only problem I have noticed with it so far is a noticeable slowdown or lag when browsing around the menus. By this, I mean that for instance scrolling up and down on the main menu, things will stagger and stutter and simply not flow smoothly as I navigate around. The same thing happens when I browse over album covers and suchlike in the music menu. The problem is heightened when music is playing, adding to the slowdown.
So has anyone else experienced this problem? Or is this just standard with the Zen? More importantly, how can i fix it's!?!
    Thanks guys!

I should also mention I have ONE album on it, so it can't be because it's full. ONE ALBUM! No joke...

  • Serious Issues with Creative Zen 32GB

I have been a loyal creative user for at least the past 6 years.
In?July I purchased the Creative Zen 32GB device.
At first it was fine, now it's a total mess.
I looked to try and find information on whether other folks are having the same issues as I am, but I can't seem to find anything.
I have Windows Vista 32bit on my computer. I recently upgraded to firmware .2.03 and that just made things worse.
As soon as I purchased the player I have never had the correct time on the device. I change it constantly and when I turn it back on after a day of not using it, the clock is wrong again.
I use Rhapsody to download music to the device. I originally had no issues, but lately, I can't transfer songs to the device from Rhapsody, playlists are deleting on their own.
After upgrading to the new firmware, for every artist I have that contains THE, for example, The Beatles, The Killers, the songs are listed twice on my player as Beatles, The and The Beatles. When I try to delete the duplicate it takes action as if it is deleting, but when I turn the player back on the duplicates are still there.
If I try to delete a song from the device, it takes action as if it is deleting, but the songs are still there when I turn the player on again.
There are duplicates and I do not know how they got there.
When I plug the device into my computer to transfer files or update songs, it makes my computer lock up.
Anyone have these issues? I have tried to restore, but that does not work. HELP!

  • Ipods suck : Considering buying a Creative Zen 32gb, I have some SD questions

? My? 20gig ipod died......again. I never realised how bad ipods are . They are WHITE DEATH
So i'm looking for a replacement. I used to have a Vision M 30gb? but trying to find a new one? is impossible and they are VERY expensi've as they are so rare
I looked at the Newer creative mp3 players but from the reviews they seem to have a few flaws i dont like plus very expensi've .
So i've settled on the Creative Zen 32. I tend to carry around a lot of audio so i am considering adding on a SD card
I'm selecting one that has the right compatibility?but I wanted to ask is it possible? to creative playlists for mp3 on the SD card
Having the mp3's organised and not a jumbled mess is what i'm worried about .
    Has this been fixed?
p.s. I tried searching but when you search for 'creative zen' you get every other version of the zen as well

Zens are great durable mp3-players, so it's a good choice. But so are iPods. A friend of mine has the same iPod he had 5 years ago. You are saying you are having problems with your iPod. Maybe it's just bad luck, but it might happen that you will be dissapointed again with a Zen.
I have a screen protector and a protection case my zen, I never put it in my pants pocket, unless I really have no other choice. My Zen broke after 2 months (it didn't connect anymore), but those things can happen. mp3-players are fragile, but the Zen is the best player I have experienced (and that are a lot of players, with my destruction rate ).

  • Zen 4Gb White screen after hold m

    Hi,
I have this problem on my zen 4gb: when I put it in hold mode, everything works fine, but when I put it back to "normal mode", then the screen becomes white. The player works but I can't see anything because it's white, I have to switch it off and then on to have a normal situation. I tried to reinstall the firmware (ver. .20.02) but nothing changed.
Someone has the same problem? Have you a solution?
    Thank you,
    Enrico

Ahh. The white screen. Have you reformated the player? Under creative media explorer tools, there is an option to format. Try this. If not, send it back. Here is a good forum too.

  • Creative zen 32gb question

looking at this one: [url="http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Portable-Media-Player-Black/dp/B002YPMOC/ref=sr__2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=23633786&sr=-2">zen 32gb[/url]
    my question is this:
does this mp3 player require proprietary software to put songs on it or can i just take a folder from my computer, and put it in the music directory on the player using drag and drop
i did a search but so many "creative zen" players came up i dont know which one to even look at. seems like some can and some cant. im trying to research it now through other means but im just kind of hoping someone on here that owns one can let me know what is required.

First of all, I'm assuming that you are already clued-up on moving your CD albums onto your hard disk. You should, by the way, always create a folder for each CD/Album, and put all the tracks into that folder.
From your question, it appears that you haven't yet purchased a Zen. Your Zen comes with some programs to help you do things. In the context of your question here, you get a "Zen Media Explorer" which allows you to do the following:
. Move your CD/Album folders into your Zen.
    2. Make a playlist for each of the above folders.
Then if you want to play an album in your Zen simply select a playlist and click "Play".
There are other ways of doing things, but the above strategy keeps everything tidy and easy to find (and play).
You can, for instance, create your own"mixes" (putting each into a playlist). You can of course select individual tracks, and (if you want) set "random play".
You might also find it useful to always set the sleep timer to (say) one hour - then if you forget to switch your Zen off, you won't flatten your battery. When you switch on again, you'll automatically be put into the playlist/track/position-in-track that you were in when "sleep" kicked in. This "return-to-place" also works if you deliberately switch off.
One other recommendation - always switch to "lock" when playing. In "lock" the display is switched off, so you'll get about 24 hours of audio play on one battery charge. If you don't use the lock, the extra drain by the display will shorten your battery life before you need a recharge to something between 2 and 5 hours.

  • New Creative Zen 8gb White Scr

I am curious as to whether or not other people are having this issue. After charging my Zen the recommended four hours, I started it up only to see a white screen, nothing else. It does not go away, however. Resetting multiple times, updating, and re-updating the firmware doesn't seem to solve the problem either. I hit play, and I can hear the pre-loaded music, and I can adjust the volume, but I cannot see anything.
What shows up when you plug in your Zen to be charged anyways, is it supposed to show the main screen, and then at the top right a bar showing that it is charging?
I already returned my first one with that problem, and my second one is doing it again, which makes me think I am just doing something stupid, and that there should be an easy solution... any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I think it's hosed and you need to return it. I have the same problem with my Vision. I did get the screen back once when i took the battery pack off for a few days and then turned it back on but... This happen while I was traveling and player turned on and went into recovery mode while in my bag.

  • New Zen 8GB White Screen after l

The Issue: the player goes to white screen when "locked" and then "unlocked" while playing music. The music still plays, but the white screen does not reset until the player is shut off and then restarted.
Basically I just want to keep this issue current on these boards, and know whether it will be fixed in a firmware update. If it's a hardware problem (and therefore not fixable through firmware), I would appreciate it if Creative Labs would kindly let its customers know so that they can return their products.
Please post here if you're seeing the same issue (or better, if you know a fix!).
