Creative Zen and in-car ste

Hi everyone!
I've bought Creative Zen recently (http://pl.europe.creative.com/produc...4&product=6999) and I tried to connect it to my car stereo. I have brand new car with iPod and USB support but after plugging my Zen into USB port the stereo says "No media". In the car stereo manual I found that it works only with storage with FAT6 and 32 file systems. It was also said that VHAPPTL sector should be placed at 52 or 2048 byte. I've been googling for any information about file system on Zen but couldn't find anything, about VHAPPTL either :/ Can anybody help me solve this problem?
mp3 player: Creative Zen with 2GB flash memory (no SD card inside)
car: Hyundai i30 Comfort with basic car stereo (without CD changer)
p.s. The very first thing I have done was upgrading Zen firmware but didn't help

I forgot to write that very simple Samsung mp3 player did work fine with the stereo set.

Should I install "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSourc

I have the Play For Sure firmware on my Zen Touch, now I'm going to first install the driver on my computer, then install the creative media source, then the play for sure software suite, and then the media source CD plugin. Should I also install the Zen & Nomad Jukebox plugin afterward or that's only for ppl who haven't upgraded the firmware?

How can I connect my Creative mp3 Player and my car ste

I need to connect my Creative mp3 Player and my car stereo (Peugeot 407 standard car stareo). It haven't cassette player or an "AUX IN" hole. Any Idea?


Unfortunately (for us consumers) there are few options.
) Use an FM transmitter which does not work in your area.
2) There was a post in this forum where the person had a device installed that would switch from the car antenna to an FM transmitter. So effecti'vely, the FM transmitter is spliced right into the antenna line into your car stereo. The theory is that it's either using the car antenna or your MP3 player, but never both. There are no competing FM stations. The use also said this cost them $200 .... which makes option 3 a better deal considering FM will decrease the fidelity of a MP3 player.
3) Buy a car stereo with an input jack .. as SSR as sited.
4) You can buy a cassette adapter ... if your current car stereo has a circa 20th century cassette player.
5) Start a grass roots effort to lobby car manufacturers to put in a input jack in the car stereos. The American companies might be softened after this SUV bust.
If you pick #5, I'm available to stamp and stuff envelopes ......

Creative Zen (and other MTP players) and Amarok: A quick guide

Hi. Odds are if you're looking at this you've been directed here by a search engine because you've typed in something to the effect of Creative Zen+Amarok or MTP+Amarok. This is meant to be a quick and dirty little rundown of what you need to do to get your Zen or possibly other MTP player working. This isn't a scientific paper and thus there will be many many variables that may or may not have anything to do with getting it to work, and may not work with every other MTP player out there. Now, down to business.
The first thing you probably want to have is libmtp, Amarok, and libusb. In my case I did it with libmtp 0.2.6.1-1, Amarok 1.4.10-2, and libusb 0.1.12-3. Others have apparently gotten this working with older versions so if there is some reason you can't upgrade or you happen to be a time traveler who printed this out before disrupting the natural chronological order this might work even with older versions. If you do however happen to have an older version of Amarok you might have to compile in libmtp support, but this is beyond the scope of this little guide. Google it. Also my user belongs to audio, optical, video, storage, network, Hal, Dbus, and wheel. The only groups I believe are necessary are storage, audio, Hal and Dbus. But I haven't tested under those conditions
For some reason when libmtp is installed it doesn't install a set of udev rules, so the first thing you need to do is is create a file called:

This is the basic set of identifiers for Media Devices on Amarok. Amarok does indeed keep a page which may or may not be updated http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Media_Device:MTP.
As it says on that page we want to make sure that the device is recognized. If your device is listed on the list above then you can skip straight to the part about libmtp but if it isn't then you need to start with libusb to construct your devices I.D.

You should see a fairly sizeable output, but what we're interested in is at the very top (assuming you only have your media device plugged in).
In my case it's:
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 041e:4157 Creative Technology, Ltd
and even in that all we really care about is the ID:041e:4157. The first number is the idVendor and the second is the idProduct. All you have to do is copy one of the other examples and subsistute your numbers in mind and name.

You probably noticed that GROUP="audio" on the end. I don't know whether or not it is significant but others have mentioned that they could not get it to work until they had that. So I would add that to any device I want to use if it doesn't work and you've done everything else
Next you want to see if libmtp detects your device. Go back to the console and type:

To someone who know what they're doing, all of that code might mean something, but to me the only thing that counts is the OK at the end and that it obviously sees the device. If this doesn't happen it may be that your permissions for the 65-libmtp.rules file is wrong, So just chmod 666 for it and that should solve your problem.
Now the only thing left to do is Amarok. Fire up Amarok, go to settings. Click on media devices and add device. Very important. For the longest time I was beating my head against nearby inanimate objects because I had tried to add it manually before and accomplished nothing and made the foolish assumption that I had to auto detect it as all the people who solved their problems stated that they plugged it in and it simply worked. Anyways, add device, name it whatever your little heart desires (I simply named mine Creative_Zen) and select MTP device for the plugin and click ok. You should then be able to connect from the media device window. You may not be able to transfer any files without restarting Amarok like I did, but it's working now! Huzzah!
I apologize to the Forum Mods, I felt I needed to make this after all the time I spent trying to get it working and have no blog or personal website to post it on (le gasp! One could understand not having a website, but no blog in this day and age!? Scandalous!) and don't have any method to truly host it for long periods (perhaps indefinite) of time. I was given an old 1GB Memorex MMP8568-SPT. When connected, Amarok detects it as an MTP device. What an unreliable pile of ****!
Anyway, I found the manual online and by holding the "play/pause" key down for more than three seconds, lo and behold, it switches to a simple USB flash drive mode which device managers pick up, drag and drop in dolphin etc etc. Phew!

Creative Zen and iTunes playback

Hey all,
I recently purchased a MacBook for my girlfriend and when it came to using her Creative Zen mp3 player it did not work. We did not know that Creative was compatible with windows only. Until I can get windows xp on her laptop, we decided to try an alternate method.
So after searching these topics I found that downloading a program called XNJB helped. We got the songs to come up on the screen, but we can not seem to play them on the computer. Any ideas?
Also, the mp3 player does not show up on the desktop when we plug it into the computer.
Any help would be appreciated, as I want this gift to be perfect,

As the player in discussion is not going to work with iTunes no matter what you do, you may find that you'll get better answers on a Creative forum.
Does the Zen show up in the Finder as a mounted drive? If so, it may be as simple as dragging and dropping tracks. Note that any protected files purchased from the iTunes Store won't work. I don't know if the Creative Zen supports .aac files even if they're unprotected. You'll need to look up the specs.

Hi I installed Gnomad2 with "yaourt -S gnomad2" and everything went fine...but now? how can i start this program?
If i write gnomad2 on the konsole it says that it does not exist? I forgot to do something?

On "that other" operating system it works with a program that always installed but on Linux you really need gnomad2.
Windows has libmtp support out of the box (well I think its part of media center). Gnomad2 is not the only choice. Most creatives use a protocol called libmtp, so any program that supports libmtp will work (Amarok, mtpfs, gnomad2, etc...)

libnjb and libmtp-devel should have gotten pulled in when ilcontegis ran yaourt -S gnomad2, but regardless he/she can't start gnomad2, so the mtp talk is bullshit right now. Lets follow a little bit of logic here!

Creative Zen and Linux Compatibili

I am considering buying a new Creative Zen 6GB. One thing that I noticed is under the 'required' field on the Creative site, Windows XP/Vista is listed. I run Ubuntu 7.04 as my primary operating system.
Will the Creative Zen function in a matter such that I will be able to simply drag mp3 files into its folder as it's plugged into my computer? Or will it strictly run only under Windows, forcing me to use some sort of proprietary software?

I have a ZVP 4GB, and I load it from a Kubuntu 7.04 box.
I use Kaudiocreator to rip, and Amarok to manage the library & download to my ZVP.
One thing to note about disconnecting the ZVP from Amarok. I find it works better to wait until the ZVP's USB icon show no activity and then unplug before pressing the 'Disconnect' button in Amarok. If I use the Amarok disconnect button first, the ZVP seems to get stuck displaying 'Please Wait'. The reset button fixes it though.

Problem with Creative Zen and Win 7

# I have Creative Zen player almost 4 years. I recently bought a new computer? with Win 7 operati've system, and since then my creative Zen player will no logner to connect with PC.
I tried everything?, but creative centrale it will not recognize it's. When I try with Win XP?everything is OK?.
What is wrong with? Win 7 and Creative Zen?I have the software? for the Win 7.

I have a refirbishd ?NOMAD Jukebox, that uses the ZEN USB 2.0 drivers and got it to work under Win7Wiltimate x64.
Install the regular XP drivers as administrator.
Install the NOMAD explorer (I know, this will not work on WIn7).
Install WinAMP (http://www.winamp.com)
Now you're set to go! Fire up WinAMP and go to the media library. There connect the ZEN to your computer and if all goes right, it should find your ZEN without any problem under proteble devices. Select it and have fun using your ZEN under Win7.
Adding tracks is a simple copy from the Windows explorer and past in the WinAMP library screen.

Creative Zen And Bose Triport Earpho

The?Bose Triport?earphones work excellent when plugged into my laptop. But when I listen to them on the creative zen they dont work properly. Its like the sound when a cd skips this is driving me crazy. I have tryed other earphones and they work.

Creative Zen and Creative Media Sourc

A couple of years back I bought a creative MP3 player and it came with Creative Zen Touch software. Just recently I purchaed a new laptop that came with Creative Media Source 5. I used to use the Creative Zen Touch to load my music cds and transfer files from my computer and my MP3 player. My question is since now I have Creative Media Source 5 (along with Creative Li've! Cam and Sound Blaster Audigy) do I even need to load the Creative Zen Touch software on my new laptop inorder to transfer music files from my MP3 player and my laptop. Thank you in advance.

Ok.... I tried many times to put the PlaysForSure "firmware" on my actual player (I have version .0.03). The problem is I can not figure out how to actually put the firmware onto my MP3 player. Can someone please help me with this as I am leaving for Iraq VERY soon and I need to get the MP3 player to be recognized by Creative 5 and Windows Vista (32-bit). Thanks in advance.

with the latest .20.x firmware the Creative ZEN works flawlessly with AmaroK under openSUSE 0.3. (Wich is an excellent linux distro)
If someone experience problems transfering music, check that you have the latest libmtp installed. This can be done with Yast. Make sure that the Packman sources are installed. (See the opensuse.org wiki for information on how to add sources.)

I had my Vision M hooked up to my Aux jack, and currently I have my Zen hooked up to the aux jack aswell. Thing is, he has to control all his music and control through the player. The cord looks like a head phone hack with two male ends on it and it should connect to the front of the stereo if he has a aux input. If he does not have a aux input he can buy a transmitter that will utilize his FM stereo to play his MP3's.
