Creative ZEN Firmware prob

First. I'm new here, i've been looking for solutions on the boards but they can't solve my problem.
So my problem is, since yesterday, I tried to connect my creative ZEN to the computer and the player show the message "FIRMWARE PROBLEM"
Everytime I try to turn ON the player, the same message display.
I've already search on the web for solutions, like remove Windows Media Player from your computer, then download the firmware and upload the firmware to your mp3 player, but it doesn't work, because the computer doesn't recognises the player.
PLEASE, HELP ME!
thank you.

I've just found out!
When you turn on the player, you'll have to hold the play button, and then it will show you some options, in this case I had to choose "CLEAN UP" I've lost everything I had on my player, but I have him back!
Thanks, at least, to dranpencil for some help =)

  • Help Please My Creative Zen Firmware Prob

It suddenly happened. I have my Creative Zen just one year and a half and last time that I tried to turn it on it just did not. I did not smashed it or soaked or anything. I reset it. Cleaned it up, Formated all, and the same message is coming........ Firmware Problem!
!!! I have tried it all. I download the Creative Zen Firmware .03.04, the computer just dont detect the device at all. Any suggestions??

Try attaching an AC adapter (if you have one) and then attach it to your computer - sometimes this allows the computer to recognise the device so you can?re-install the firmware.

  • 30 gig Creative Zen Firmware Prob

    <SPAN>
Hi I own a 30 gig Creative Zen Xtra Mp3 player and have been having a problem with it. I have owned it for 3 months. When I turn the player on it starts to rebuild the library but crashes about ?s of the way in and states that there is a firmware problem. Once this screen has come up I cannot turn the player off so I have to remove the battery. I followed instructions posted on another site and entered the rescue menu and selected re- install OS. I deleted the old one and downloaded the <SPAN>Firmware Update version .20.08. I opened the file and a warning came up saying that the firmware I have on my mp3 player is more recent than the one I wanted to install. The mp3 player I own is a old model so I thought that this was wrong. I continued and installed the new firmware. I rebooted the player and it rebuilt the library to the previous level only to crash again stating a firmware problem despite the update. After this I selected the clean up option. It scanned the disc but nothing changed.
<SPAN>I have no other options from the player except to enter the rescue menu. I cannot even turn the player off. When I reinsert the battery it turns on and attempts to rebuild the library and then crashes and the firmware crashes icon will stay until the battery runs out. I run Windows XP home on my computer and I can find no other people complaining of the exact symptoms as mine. Thanks for any help.

If you have tried all this then I can only think the player is faulty.
If it's under warranty then obviously contact Creative Support. If it's not under warranty you can of course also contact Creative Support to get it repaired.
It might be the hard disk which is at fault which you can replace yourself, but it's hard to know this is the problem for sure.

  • New Creative ZEN Firmware 1.21.03" firmware does not work

    >New Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03" firmware does not work This new "Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03, Filesize : 7.6 MB" firmware does not work.
All I get is : "Please make sure there is only one player connected" (See image below)
I have a CreativeZen 4GB player with Vista 64-Bit Operating system (Main System).
Yes, I have followed the instructions step-by-step, downloaded the new firmware first, then, connected my ZEN player, double-clicked the "ZEN_PCFW_L22__2_03" downloaded file.
Note : No other programs were running in the backround, even turned off installed firewall and anti-virus software. Also, tried this new firmware in a Windows XP (SP2) computer system and a Notebook Vista 32-Bit computer system. Yes! I only have one player connected. Same result (See image below).
I left it sit for one hour and did not move, same result (See image below).
I tried this in safemode (All OS systems), same result (See image below).

Re: New Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03" firmware does not work$ I updated my Zen 32GB using Vista x64 so it can work under some situations. Can't say my upgrade went problem-free but it did work in the end.
You might try some of the following (no promises they will help, but can't really hurt):
Re-download the firmware updater. Maybe you got a bad download.
Make sure your Zen is directly connected to a system USB port (i.e. not to a port on a monitor, keyboard, ext USB hub, etc.)
Try running the firmware update as Administrator if you aren't already
Try uninstalling the Creative drivers before the update.
In my case I got stuck on a message that another application was using my Zen. Turned out the simple act of hooking up the player resulted in Vista running a headless "wmplayer.exe *32" process. I had to manually kill it from TaskManager in order to proceed. Even then the first update attempt ended with the Zen reporting a firmware problem and rebooting into the Recovery Menu. I had to use Reload Firmware to erase what it had and then try again. Second time was the charm.
After all that I can't for the life of me see any changes/improvements in the new firmware. The forum is full of gripes and wishlists yet none of them complain about the radio functionality. I've used it almost every day for year without issue (aside from the rare Zen hang/crash when messing with the headphone jack and/or sliding the power switch). Thank goodness after waiting 0- months since the last update they got around to fixing something nobody noticed was broken. /2?:smileyvery-happy:

  • Creative ZEN Firmware (1.20.02e) B

    Hello Guys,
Yesterday i got my Creative ZEN 4 GB.
With the stock Firmware i noticed a bug with the hold-mode.
If I turn on the hold-mode, the display shuts down, ok, normal.
But if I turn the hold-mode off, i can see only a white screen an nothing else.
So I have to reboot the player.
I decided to install the .3 Firmware. Now, when I turn my ZEN off and on,
I get an overbright and flickering screen, like many other people in the forum.
Today i?ve seen that there is a new Firmware, the .20.02e.
I installed it, but I already have the same problems.
Now i?m using the stock firmware again, it'ss the "best" for my ZEN.
Now i?m very angry about that ... I hope Creative will fix it soon ...
Does anybody else have this probs?
ps: excuse my bad english, i?m german :PMessage Edited by obtrusi've on 2-9-200706:7 AM

Hi guys, the US firmware can be obtained if you set your region to United States from the Creative Web site... I want to say something about the firmware upgrade issue... Creative fixes something in every f/w.. they declare some of them but (i?think that) some more?fixes are not declared. It is better to always update your players f/w when Creative releases a new one and expect for the next better one... Moreover do not forget that the codecs are embedded in the f/w s... Latest f/w = Better stability??Of course this is my opinion but the player is yours, do what you want

  • Creative zen firmware update now trouble with creative media sou

I wanted to start downloading music from an online store and was advised that I needed a firmware upgrade for my creative zen, which I did (version 2.2.02) and could download music. However since I have done this my zen is no longer recognised when I connect to my pc - which is running on Windows XP. I took advice from creative and reloaded my firmware after starting my player in recovery mode and then I reloaded the creative media source organiser software. After that I could find the player in the organiser but everything was laid out differently with all my music in folders which made it really tricky to navigate.
The icon is this grey thing which doesnt look like a creative at all! Although I can move files around it is still not recognised on the bottom right of my pc and I can't safely remove the hardware because of this. I am also having problems with syncing from the pc library to the zen and it is not picking up duplicate files but adding them again so I am getting loads of copies of the same music - nightmare. When I am deleting it is just not recognising and I have been through this process a few times now and its getting pretty tiresome!
Should I reinstall the organiser again and do a clean up in recovery mode?

The Zen MicroPhoto is an MTP Device.
    Minimum System Requirements:
Microsoft? Windows? XP (Service Pack or higher)/XP 64-bit
You might find a work-around for not having the minimum system requirements in this thread or this thread.

  • New Creative Zen Firmware Upgrade Borked - update: I think it's fi

    Hello!
I got a new 6gb Creative Zen today. Have a question:
    1. I upgraded the firmware after the original CD load. There were 4 critical updates. However, after all that ran, the Zen is messed up - I get a screen that has Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware and Reboot. When I tried to reboot I get a Reload Firmware message. I cannot get into the system at all.
I'm sure I'll have more questions later. Thanks for the help!Message Edited by Gankaku on 0-6-200809:0 PM
EDIT: I re-downloaded the firmware from the site and reinstalled and maybe things are ok now? I have access to the player from a Windows window. Hopefully all is well now.Message Edited by Gankaku on 0-6-200809:37 PM

My microphoto is doing the exact same thing. When I boot to recovery mode and select any of the options the player freezes while trying to execute the task. For example if I select 'clean up' the 'scan disk...' window comes up and immediately freezes. The only option in recovery mode that functions is the restart option, but when I restart it freezes at the creative logo again.
Ideally I would like to upgrade the firmware, but like traceinnabox my computer does not recognize the player...
This seems to be a problem that is not unique to me. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

  • Creative Zen Firmware overd

Its been almost 8 months since the latest firmware upgrade. Is there plans on a new upgrade before the end of the year :smileyindifferent:

This have to be; by my opinion, the shortest 'end of life' item ever made by Creative based on item release date and possibly the last firmware upgrade with the timeframe of less than 6 months since its release back in September 2007. Its nothing against Creative but at least give us something we can be happy with besides the Zen X-Fi and the Zen go down the toilet because if I can say, if there was never a Creative Zen Flash-based player, there would never be a such product as the Zen X-Fi. I understand the Zen X-Fi is a successor to the Zen but with the sales of the Creative Zen most likely tripling since its release and its World Record 32GB model says its name that Creative is the company that made the first 32GB Flash-based player. A ton of stores in and around Baltimore,MD are selling out of the Creative Zen? and one popular website? Newegg? have all of its 4GB models in stock on backordered because they were bought so quickly. Not to be harsh but just or 2 more firmware upgrades before it can be considered 'end of life' would be appreciated then Creative can be really proud of how big the Creative Zen have went so far in just 3 months and probably assume the name of "Best Flash-based player ever made."

  • Creative zen battery prob

after i upgraded the firware of my creative zen 4gb to .0.05,
i encountered a serious battery problem.the battery drains dead even if my player is shut down.and the battery drains easily.only about 4-5 hours of use(audio).
    help pls..

    Hey guys!
Sorry for my earlier rant... I was just sooo pissed off about this player. I think I've solved my problem, here's what originally happened:
The first time I tried upgrading the firmware, the player froze and the process didn't complete normally. After that, the player didn't want to turn back on.. it froze on a black screen right after the ZEN logo/text. My computer couldn't even see/discover the player anymore... So I had to restart using the "safe boot" option (holding down the play/pause button while turning the player on). After that, I upgraded the firmware again, and it seemed to have worked, until I noticed that the battery life sucked now, and that the battery kept draining overnight, even if the player was shutdown.
Now after ranting and raving on this forum yesterday, I tried upgrading the player again; it warned me that I was upgrading using the same version already installed, but I did it anyway. It re-flashed normally, and the battery was full charged when I did it. From last night to this morning (over 2 hours), I used the player a bit here and there (for audio/music), and I left it on the table all night; and this morning, when I turned it back on, the battery was still full charge! So from what I can understand, the battery stopped draining overnight! (unless I just didn't give it enough time to drain by itself... even so, I wouldn't have been full charge this morning!)
So for anyone that has had problems with this firmware, I would suggest you re-flash again, using the latest update file available... I will keep using my Zen, without recharging it, until it's drained again. I will post within a few days to tell you guys if it really seems to be working right. Hope this helps, if not, there's always the next firmware version to try out.
P.S.: Is it just me or are the cables and such that came with the payer a little on the cheap side
A 3-inch USB cable WTF Come on creative, not everyone has front panel USB ports! Even the stock earphones look pretty cheap, the wire's so thin, I'm afraid of snapping it! Sound quality is pretty good tho.
Things to think about for the next FW version:
    - AC3 audio decoding please! (and all the other types of audio that are not currently compatible with the ZEN).
    - Automatic resizing filter to 320x240 resolution (while playing/decoding). I'm not 100% sure the player has enough processing power to achieve this, but it wouldn't hurt to try! It's good that the payer is compatible with Xvid/DivX but you still have to re-encode everything you want to put in it, or you'll see "can't display resolution". But since the converter that comes with the ZEN software is sooooo **bleep** slow to convert (but does a good job), any option like automatic downsizing/resizing will be greatly appreciated by anyone watching videos/movies on this thing. Would it be so hard to incorporate a decoder-filter in this thing
    - What else would you guys like to see available on the next FW update

  • Creative Zen Touch Prob

Ok So I decided to format my creative zen touch (the firmware, clean up the whole deal), no problem.. untill I restart the mp3 player and now I get a "firmware problem" screen and then it refers me to the rescue mode.
So now I try to clean up the disk... done
I reload the firmware ... done
    reboot
Back to the recue mode, aha? Ok so I plug the zen touch in to my computer, well finally something starts to happen atleast the windows recognizes my zen touch.
Great I think... untill the problems start coming again, since my zen touch claims I have zen touch version "0.0.0" I think I should update the thing, it says the station is docked... and the firmware program says my zen touch isen't plugged in
So now I'm here stuck without firmware, with a windows that finds my zen touch .. says its plugged in but the firmware **bleep** can't find it, and neither can my windows after 4-5 minutes
What am I dealing with here? and how do I solve all of these problems?
what have I done to deserv this?
And for gods sake do not refer me to any "problems faqs" because I've tried all of em, and my zen touch is not broken since it worked perfectly untill I just did this.Message Edited by Flores42 on 06-29-2006 :34 AM

I can't reinstall any firmware on it because the firmware upgrade programs say they cannot detect my player.Would've been nice if they included a warning with the firmware that says "If this upgrade doesn't work, your player will be ruined and there will be nothing for you to do but buy a new one."
That happened with my player too.. try connecting it to a different PC and then try installing the firmware.. that worked for me.

  • Creative ZEN Firmware 1.03

I have been following another post which appears to be dead, or not being answered at any rate.
I would very much like to know, as a prospecti've customer, what exactly this firmware update does, as it gives no details whatsoever in the "details" section of the driver description.
The Zen looks very very attracti've to me, but I would very much like the ability to download photos from an SD card to the unit. Nothing I have seen or any of the reviews I have read point to the fact that I would be able to do this.
    Thanks for your time

Allows support for a wider range of SD cards. Don't think it provides many other changes, if any.
