Creative Zen Micro 5GB: Freezing on transfers & during playback (Please He

Ok, Here is a problem I am having.
My Zen is freezing no matter what program i use to place music on it.
The transfer will begin and rarely get or 2 songs on but more often it will reach about 30% on the first song, freeze and remain here till i unplug it and go into recovery mode by taking the battery out.
THINGS I HAVE TRIED:
*Changing the firmware (at least 0 times for each firmware available on this site)
*Formatting & Defragging (Don't even get me started how many times)
*Using different software (WMP0, Creative Sync and Every other one included with Creative Zen Micro Explorer)
*Upgrading software
Now i am a qualified electronic repairer and i have dismantled my zen and a friends (whom dropped it and bought a new one) i have from here changed the hard dri've thinking this may be the source of the problem (yes i am aware the warranty is void now but when i placed the battery in the first time i got it the sticker broke) This has done nothing so i have placed the original HD back in.
I have NO idea what to do now!
I can not afford a new mp3 player, have no warranty YET i do have the ability to repair this by myself.
If anyone has ANY suggestions whatsoever i am willing to try them, of course still sensible.
Please PLEASE PLEASE! help me out. i will be gratefully for any help i can get.

Why does Creative make it so easy to Reload the firmware, and why do soo many people choose this option!?!?!?

pdk, your task now is to get your computer to recognize your player. I have a feeling that you are using a v2 firmware. Do you see the words MTP Device anywhere when you connect the player to your computer? If so then follow the steps listed <a href='http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=8&categories =Nomad+Jukebox+Zen#228' target=_blank>here[/url]. Then use the firmware provided on your CD and see if it can recognize your player. You might have problems since you choose the Reload firmare option in Recovery Mode.

    Omer Hatchek,
You don't have to post multiple thread on the same question. Just a single post will do. Also, as with other peers advise/suggestion, you should contact Asia Customer Support for further assistance on this since you are in Israel now.

  • Creative Zen Micro 5GB vs Creative Zen Micro SE 6

hi i am interested in creative Zen micro, but i am worried about its many problems.
a fruend of mine has just bought a creative xen micro 5GB, but since his 2nd day of use the player is having a great problem with jack connection: the headphones, by one side, dom't work, and it is a jack problem an d not a haedphones problem.
I wanna know if the same problem occurs with Creative Zen Micro SE 6 gb, or if it is only a problem for 5gb, and what is the maeaning of "SE" (maybe Second Edition) and if this "SE" models have the same problems of the former players or if they are "patched".
I am sorry for my english but I am italian and I hope that my question is celar and understandable.

    In short, no-one knows.
Folks here have posted emails supposedly from Creative employees that say it was fixed in later versions, but Creative Support said here that basically hardware updates are made all the time (so didn't answer the question directly).
SE = Special Edition I think, although there's nothing particularly special about it and it has less accessories than the original version.

  • Zen Micro 5gb Freezes and Locks Up (2nd TIME!

Does anyone know why my Micro keeps locking up....
    Its happened twice,
The first time i had updated the firmware to a better version than what it came with in the box, I used it for a couple of weeks without any glitches or problems until one day it stopped responding. It wouldn't get past the Creative logo... I tried going through the reboot system and still nothing... i tried clean up... but it would freeze also... i tried formatting but it would never finish and trust me I waited a long time.... so I had to go through customer support. They couldn't fix the problem and they told me I must have a faulty item. I sent it back to them and they sent me another player. Now guess what? My player stopped responding again... I really don't want to send it back to them so they can go through the whole process again... WHAT CAN I DO SO IT WORKS? Someone please help....

Unfortunately if the player is not responsi've there's nothing as a user you can do. You'll need to contact Creative Support again, and hopefully you won't have the same problem with your next player.

  • My Creative Zen Micro is Freezing

. It starts and it will get to where you play the music and then it freezes. It won't let me do anything when it starts so I can't use the reboot or reload or format stuff. Ever since I got it I couldn't shut it off without taking the battery out. Could you please tell me what I can do to fix it.

Did you actually TRIED to enter recovery mode?
If you did and it freezes when you try to select ALL THREE options AND it freezes right after the Zen screen then it probably is a hardware failure in which case you must take it back to where you got it from.
HOWEVER, before you do that actually TRY ALL THREE options in the RECOVERY MENU FIRST.

  • Creative Zen Micro 5gb Hardware Probl

I bought my Mp3 plater just after Xmas and already it has refused to work. What happened was that when I tried to switch it off, the screen froze on the shuttign down screen, this lasted more then /2 an hour..so I decided to take out the battery and replace, it's now saying that there is a hardware fault and won't play.
I have not had any bumps major drops with it.
So what could be the problem.
I can't even get into recovery mode.

i have the same problem posted for my 40GB. it sounds like the support is bad with this company. SSR, you seem to have a lot to say, but it usually ends up with contact support. have you actually had any experience with support that was good? i have just been told that i will have to spend $88 to fix a unit that only cost $206 a bit over a year ago. i cant understand why there is no cooperation from creative to coorect what appears to be a serious reoccurring problem. is there any action a group of customers with the same problem can take? any ideas out there? it doesnt seem to make sense that we spend a couple hundred bucks and have something lasy a year or so, and then spend another couple hundred bucks to either fix or replace it. i'd love some feedback.

  • Creative Zen Micro 4GB - Headphone jack & transferring probl

I haven't updated my firmware since I got the player in May (out of the box firmware update? Go away).
My headphone jack is loose. I'll often only have music in one ear, especially if I'm walking or sitting down and have the player in my pocket or bag. I've started carrying my discman because I don't like pulling out my $300 mp3 player every couple of minutes. Is that the infamous solder problem?
Also, my computer no longer recognizes the player. My sister had the problem a little while ago (same player, newer firmware because she got hers a month ago), and we reinstalled the drivers and everything is cool. Mine still doesn't work.

    Sounds like it.

What firmware do you have on your player?
Have you run a disk cleanup from rescue mode?
When you connect the player is it listed in Device Manager?

  • Creative Zen Micro - Is it Worth

I am looking to get my first MP3 player. I basically have 3 choices - an iRi'ver, an Ipod Nano -_-, or a Creative Zen Micro (5gb). I am hearing all kinds of problems with freezing and the headphone jack problem. My friend has had his a year and says his is fine. Should I be worried? Is it worth the risk? I am the most unluckiest person out there, solI know somethign will happen the first week.

    NO NO NO NO!!!!
I posted this in another thread :
If time is on your side TAKE IT BACK ASAP. Like you, I did plenty of research before putting out the money on an Mp3 player. I was impressed with what I read about the Zen micro so I went ahead and purchased 3. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! I purchased them in May 2005. I've already sent player back twice for repair - and am awaiting the RMA label to send THE SAME player back again for replacement. Now the other 2 players are starting to act up. One won't hold a charge at all and when it does start it goes to the clean up screen and the other has started freezing up quite a lot. As far as I am concerned this product is a joke. I was patient with customer service, even after I was LIED to. I let them replace the product not once but twice and am actually going to see if I can't cancel the advanced RMA on the third replacement and try and get my money back on all three of the players through the replacement plans I bought on them. If I have to wait until May 2006 for the year manufacturers warranty to be up I'll stick them in a drawer and wait.
The funny (not ha ha funny, but strange funny) thing is that I bought the Zen Micro's because I didn't want to be like everyone else and buy iPods. Now I wish I had. I have a feeling I threw over $600.00 away. Not quite 7 months and almost $700.00 spent- $00.00 a month for nothing but problems - wow what a really bad investment!
If I thought Creative would buck up and do the honorable thing and give me my money back, I probably wouldn't have bothered to register and post here. But I really don't think they give a crap about me or any other poor sucker that fell for their line and bought this junk. Buyer Beware....

  • About ZEN Micro 5GB is

    To Whom It May Concern:
??Two weeks ago, I bought a Creative ZEN Micro (5GB) mp3 player from PChome online shop. After one week, the battery can not charge normally and I believe it was broken. I don?t know it cause by your company bad quality control or PChome?s selling bad product. I report PChome this issue, they said they will contact vendor and understand this issue. I also told Creative Taiwan branch. Your customer service tells me, maybe the battery is old and he want me mail mp3 player back. I am not happy about this shopping experience. I think Creative is such as a good brand in music machine area before, but I doubt it now. Your customer service is not good. I am working in office hours and I have no time to mail my mp3 player. It is not fair for me to take responsibility for none mp3 to used during the mailing process. In Taiwan, if you don?t provide a good service contact window, maybe you can provide some retail stores that customers send their Creative products to fix.
??This mail describes my bad feeling and I hope one day you can provide us a convenient customer service.
    Best Regards,

Wow. I actually wish that happened to me (some tracks I would really like to have music only and no vocals). Lucky.
BUT, did you try to load them without all those programs running? How about trying to go into recovery mode and doing a disk clean up? Let us know! Good luck!

  • Creative Zen Micro crash

I bought a white Creative Zen Micro a week or so ago, and upgraded its firmware to .02.05 [the executable on the Creative site was entitled PCFW_LB__02_05_PDE.exe"]. A day or so ago, my Zen Micro started to lock up during playback. I could reset it by taking the battery out and restarting in recovery mode, but since then it has completely crashed and won't restart no matter what I try.
In between the first lock up and the catastrophic crash this evening, I did a disk cleanup, reformatted the hard disk, and reloaded the firmware twice. Nothing seemed to work, and I'm really worried something is seriously wrong with either the hardware or the battery - but I don't see how that can be.
I'm an advanced PC user, and the only things I did out of the ordinary were a) to occasionally drag and drop MP3s in a Windows XP explorer pane as opposed to using the bundled Creative software, and b) I re-charged the battery via the USB cable as opposed to the mains cable - but the Zen never gave any indication on having battery problems.
Has anyone experienced similar problems? If so, I'd certainly appreciate any advice you might have for me.
I've contacted Creative Support, but I don't know how long they'll take to get back to me. Does anyone know how long it takes them to respond?

Sounds like it's faulty, unfortunately . Try and get the store where you bought it to replace it for you.

  • Creative Zen Micro Photo is Freezing in Recovery M

  • Creative Zen Micro (Startup Failure) Need URGENT he

Hi, i was on holiday in Singapore about 2 weeks ago, and i bought myself a Creative Zen Micro from one of the local sho
    ps.
It worked fine, music played brilliantly, i was happy. However, today when i turned it on, it would display the 'CREATIVE COPYRIGHT' Screen, then followed by 'CREATIVE' in large letters across the screen. It would then freeze on this screen, and the off/on button would soon become useless, which meant that i could either leave it on and kill the battery, or take it out.
When i took the battery out and in again, it would repeat with the 'CREATIVE' sign. Following the 'recovery' methods, i managed to load the screen with all the different options such as clean-up, etc etc. However, when i load any of them up, it would freeze once again and i would end up taking the battery out again.
I have tried the reset button with a pin but that doesnt do anything. I have a spare battery that does exactly the same too. My computer doesnt detect the Zen btw.
I have important documents and almost my lifetime's supply of music that took me almost weeks to rip and store into that Zen. Now that its basically dead, and i bought it in Singapore, i have basically no warranty, i feel as if i have been throwing cases of money into the toilet. I need urgent help, if theres any other ways of restoring access to my Zen.
Check the reviews on a respectable site like amazon.com: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Zen-Micro-6GB-Player/dp/B000AMR76S
After browsing around forums over the internet, I have found many other people complaining about this, which makes it a MAJOR flaw in the Creative Zens. Screw petty chargers and plugs, get the software right.

The problem you have is very simple, yet complicated to be solved. Your zen's hard dri've is dead. Most of the people who own a zen don't know it has a hard dri've inside. Some mp3 players have flash memory. Chances are that you've dropped your mp3 player. Zen's hard dri'ves are very sensiti've and must not be moved around too much. The way to go in this case is to replace the hard dri've. It is actually a micro hard dri've what you need. Seagate ST 5GB MicroDri've CF Type II. Once you have a new Hd installed you can format it using the zen's menu (remove the battery, hold the power button, place the battery in and wait untill you see the menu) This requires some experience formatting HD's and installing firmware. There is another option. You can buy a Patriot 4Gb Compact Flash Card, and follow what I've described above. The good thing about this is that your zen will take more vibration than the original. The bad one is tha those range from $70 - 99. I hope this hel

  • Zen Micro 5GB – USB not connectin

My Zen Micro 5GB MP3 is freezing on the CREATIVE screen.<SPAN> I tried a Clean-Up to no avail.<SPAN> I have downloaded the new Firmware/OS and went to install it but when I initiate the program a message comes up saying it does not recognize a connection to the MP3 player through the USB port.
Up until this point (for six months), I have not had any problems with the USB port connecting.<SPAN> I tried a second USB port on the PC and got the same message.<SPAN> It seems unlikely to me that both USB ports would go out at the same time the MP3 player starts freezing up.
Without the USB port connecting to the MP3 player, the new firmware cannot be downloaded.
    What do I do?

A few days ago I had exactly the same problem. It turned out to be a crashed harddisk and I sent it RMA.
