WHAT TO DO AFTER:
I did have a problem like this though, and it seems to be common when in Recovery Mode.
Before connecting to USB, first open the firmware update (Don't connect it before hand). When it says to connect, do so, but not before, and then select Update.

• Creative zen 2gb, stuck in recovery mode HE

I got my creative zune 2gb about a month ago and it's been perfectly fine. I use a mac computer so I downloaded XNJB that someone provided on this forum. Everything's been fine excpet for yesterday when i turned it on to use it was in "Recovery Mode" It goes on to say there was a firmware error with four options: clean up, format all, update firmware, and reboot. I have tried selecting all of the options, but it just brings me back to the "Recovery Mode" menu. At the top of the menu it says: v.2.0_0.3. ?
At this point i have searched EVERWHERE for a solution, but none of them work. I've tried letting the battery run out, using the reset button, and hitting it gently. I'm not sure if you can take the bettery out and how? Also, since I have a mac I cannot update the firmware or delete any files. HELP!?!

I did the exact same thing. The problem is when you selected update firmware...you deleted the firmware you had on your player.

try going here and updating it. That should fix your problem...then just select reboot, and it should go back to normal

• Zen Sleek stuck on 'Recovery Mode' - firmware reinstallation quest

Yesterday I was having playback problems with my player, and now, after it working perfectly last night, it froze this morning. I reset, it 'rebuilt the library' and then I kept getting 'Firmware Problem'. Now it's always on Recovery Mode when I turn it on. Tried disk clean-up and rebooting but no joy. Should I reinstall my firmware, and how do I do that? Also, if I need to format it do I need to reinstall things to get it working again?

This is what I got from Customer Support dude :-
Drain the battery to empty.
Hit the reset button.
Charge the Zen sleek for 5 - 6 hours.
Hit the reset button
Please do a cleanup and reboot via rescue mode:
Power down the Zen. Press and hold the Play button, then gently insert a
paper clip into the Reset hole. (Do not release the play button yet,
hold the play button for a while)
A screen with the following options should appear.
. Clean Up (Performs a scan disk on the HDD)
2. Format All (All contents will be lost, including pre-installed
content)
3. Reload OS (updates the firmware for the Zen)
4. Reboot (Reboots the Zen)
If problem still persists, do a format and reload OS via rescue mode, is
there any error?
Does it help?
For me, I had to follow option 2 the format and reload to get my sleek working again, good luck with yours.

• Zen Micro stuck in recovery mode [SOLUTION!

As you do, I have a school trip tomorrow so I thought what a great way to keep myself from being bored on the coach ride (or to drown out rubbish music) by listening to my mp3 player. (Plus I wanted to upload about fi've new CDs onto it)?I connect it up to the laptop and for some reason its on "Recovery Mode" I think I took it out of the USB port thing. Afterwards, I kept choosing the reboot... Afterwards I did the clean up and then I clicked Reload firmware and tried to connect the USB in while it was doing this but to no evail. I turned off the mp3 player and turned it back on and it said "Firmware problem"?I kept trying to download the right firmware but the downloader kept saying "Player is not connected" (WHEN IT IS!) I've even tried to use the original first firmware but NOTHING will load onto it because apparently it "is not connected" to the computer.?Help please??Edited: I managed to fix it following this solution; http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=80229Message Edited by BuryMeInBlack on 02-04-20072:23 PM

• My Zen Micro is in recovery mode and I don't know what to

I can't play music or update it. I have no clue what to do about it, any suggestions?

Do the functions work?
If not, or the player won't bootup normally, it's faulty (this advice is also echoed in the FAQ post).

• Creative Zen micro: "Firmware Problem&qu

hey, i have a Creative zen micro (orange, 6gb but i think it doesent matters"), but when i turn it on, it says "Firmware problem".
and it goes to the menu (think is called Recovery menu) and it shows:
Creative Zen Micro V0.0.65
1.Clean Up
2.Format all
3.Reload frimware
4.Reboot
now creative tells me to download a new firmware.
i did.
then to "RELOAD FIRMWARE"
and click on the upgrade, but then it says that there is no player connected, and my compuer does recognize it.
is there any way to fix this or is my zen busted?

I had a simalar problem with my Zen xtra, if it failed durng a firmware update and its stuck in recue mode try this:
Remove all creative software and drivers from your P.C
remove windows media player and media player runtime ( from control panel/add/remove programs - if you have them listed there) you should see it go through a rollbackl procedure to an earlier version of wiondows media player.
Downlaod the latest firmware for your player
Re-boot/re start your P.C
Go to the creative support website, and download the plays for sure software suite
listed as:
. Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)3.98 MB 28 Apr 05
install the software by clicking on it.
RE-boot your P.C, with your player conected via USB
once your P.C re-starts, go to the location where the firmware was downloaded to and get ready to start the upgrade
Copnnect your player to its charger ( unless it charges via USB)
On your player slect the reload OS option in the rescue menu
When prompted by your player start the firmware update on your PC.
with the Zen xtra firmware you had/need to select the language option in the update on the P.C when the p[layer displays the 'update over USB' message.

• Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00

When installing the new firmware update version 2.00.2 on my Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Explorer and the Creative MediaSource Applications do not recognize the device when it is plugged in. I installed the software Update Package (v.00.) for 'Zen Micro Players with PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware' and I am experiencing the same results. I had to revert the player back to PDE Firmware v.0.03.
Please update forum if experiencing the same thing or have suggestions.

MediaSource won't work with the new v2 firmware, you can only use WMP and the updated version of the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I believe it does say this in the readme associated with the new firmware.

• Creative Zen Micro Photo Problem (Detecti

BEFORE I CONTINUE, REFERRING TO THE KNOWLEDGE BASE DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, I TRIED THE STEPS BUT THEY SIMPLY DON'T WORK.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:
YESTERDAY, I RECEIVED MY ZEN MICRO PHOTO BLACK 8GB in the mail, and was able to get the charging started through my computer after installing the required software (mediasource, media player, wmp 9.5 codec, etc). Before I started the charging, I connected my player's USB cable to the back of my pc. Windows XP w/SP2 prompts that it 'found new hardware.' I go ahead and check in my computer if the player would be able to be accessed. I also confirmed with Creative's mediasource software, and it claims that 'no player was detected.' I did the same in windows media player 0, and says that no hardware was detected. I confirmed to make sure that the USB cable was properly connected, and it was. I tried all the ports and tried other devices through them, and they were able to be successfully detected and used, (i.e; web cam). I don't understand why my creative zen micro photo would not be detected by the software included. Windows is requiring me to install some sought of driver for the player, but I already installed all the required utilities and codecs. I believe it is charging and is detected by windows but not as a removable storage, etc, just 'FOUND NEW HARDWARE', and then no drivers found even through the CD creative provided me. I am also fearing that the battery is taking a long time to charge. This morning I saw that the player was on, but was still charging(I assume). I decided to charge while the player was turned off. Hopefully, now it will be fully charged while the player remains off. I will check when I get home. In the mean time, would some one please assist and respond to me for resolving this situation ASAP for the detection of the player. Thank you very much, Arjun (please do not further me to the knowledge base site as I have already tried all the steps, and no improvement what so what in successfully operating this player. Thank you. Just to add on, I also attempted for a firmware update, and the utility said it was not able to detect the player either, so I wasn't able to even complete a firmware update. Please assist me, URGENT. Thank you.

I sadly am very unhappy with the ZEN Microphoto 8. I was planning on leaving on a trip in the morning and found that suddenly my laptop no longer will recognize my device. I hasve been using the device for several months now with no problems at all, unitl this afternoon. It went into recovery mode and no matter what I tried I could not get it out.
I was finally able to unlock the unit by connecting the unit to my desktop. I was then able to install the firmware update. But now the unit will not work on my laptop at all. All of my media is on my laptop. I have tried several cables to no avail. I am sure that someone is going to mention the suggestion that the device not be used on a laptop, however I find it frustrating that after so much time the unit suddenly does not operate. I tried all of the suggestions in the support section. And it seems truly sad that this might just be due to the cinnection to athe laptop, considering the number of people that now use these as their primary PCs.
If any suggestions can be provided as to the cause of this problem I would love to get it fixed.

• Zen micro stuck in recovery m

today i decided to try to upgrade firmware on my Zen Micro for the first time. It was on .00.06 (I think) and i tried upgrading to the PlaysForSure 2.2.02 update. It was doing alright during the installation process at first, but then my Micro was supposably rebooting and...never came back. It said the installation was suppose to take no longer than 5 minutes. I waited at least 0-5 minutes, still nothing, so i cancelled it. I ended up formatting the micro completely, and I'm stuck in recovery mode. USB will not recognized it being connected. I even try uninstalling the creative zen micro software on my computer and i get some error and it won't allow me to do so. I don't know what else to try, any suggestions?I leave town for a week tomorrow afternoon, so i would really really appreciate any quick help!?Thanks in advance

well let me be the first to tell u there is a way to fix this. I found out yesterday by reading some old forums and found something called the caveman method. All you have to do is hit one of the rounded corners on the bottom of the zen micro against a hard surface (such as a table).
I know it sounds simple and destructi've but it worked for me and pretty much every one on the forum don't believe me heres the link: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=36568&view=by_date _ascending&page=
It has pages of people stating that it has worked for them. I was so happy that it worked for me since my player has been broken for about 7 months. They say that the micro disk stopped spinning, and by hitting it on a hard surface a few times gets it spinning again. Based off of my experience with the caveman technique, go a little crazy with it. Your going to need to use quite some force.
Unfortunately, after i got mine working i now hear some kind of grain moving inside whenever i shake the player (guess i over did it). Don't let this discourage you though because once again the player is unfrozen and loads pass that dreaded creative copyright and you can now use it.
I do give you one warning, once you get the player working try not to be an idiot like me and reload the firmware. That just brings up a whole other problem.
Good luck Cavemen s lol
