Creative ZEN Vision:M or 5th Generation iPOD Video ?

So which one would you pick? The ZEN or the iPOD. Yes, I know most people would say the ipod since this is an apple board but this ZEN Vision:M business is pretty awesome.
If you had the option to return your ipod and get the ZEN Vision, would you ? I mean, come on, look at this thing. Its a beast !
I also wanted to ask if anyone owns this thing ? i wanna ask a few questions about. i.e. battery life (since the ipod totally wreaks in that subject), compatability, other things..

Re: 4 hours playback... See my explanation about how Creative arrived at their playback times vs. how Apple arrived at theirs. If you want to listen to 64kbps WMA files, and watch 500kbps MPEG4 video, go right ahead. You could get the same result on your iPod listening to 64kbps AAC files and watching 500kbps MPEG4 video.

Re: iPod's batter turning red with 2 hours left to go... the battery meter is an estimate, nothing more. If it really bothers you and you can't ignore it, put a piece of black electrical tape over it. My battery meter is fairly accurate, but I've ran my iPod completely dead and charged it up completely 2x since I've bought it. Seems to have helped.
Re: scratching issue.. seems like there were a few people on those engadget posts that were complaining about their Zen (non-vision:M) scratching up pretty bad. My guess is the Vision:M will have the same problems (but that's a guess).
So, summary... If you need a FM radio/recorder, or a voice recorder, or don't want to transcode video you already have in a supported Vision:M format, or have your audio in WMA format, and are willing to deal with the extra width and cost, then the Vision:M might be for you. Be aware that Creative's battery life numbers are even more unapplicable to real-world use than Apple's are (I don't know of anyone that listens to 64kbps music anymore, and who would encode their video at 500kbps MPEG4?).

Does anyone know a converter from the new iTunes TV/movie file type to one that will work on my 5th generation iPod video?

I just tried to load some new TV shows from my iTunes onto my 5th generation iPod video and it says the video format is not supported. I currently have dozens of TV shows and movies on the iPod, I just wanted to put some new stuff on there. So I need to know if there is anyway of converting the new iTunes video format into one that will run on my 5th generation iPod.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

5th generation iPod video help!

I dropped my iPod video today and the iPod told me to restart it but when I plug it into the computer the inside started to make these scratchy sounds..?

It's likely that something was knocked out of place/damaged with the hard drive when your iPod was dropped. If the iPod is no longer functioning properly, it's a good sign that your hard drive needs to be replaced.

5th Generation iPod video locking up getting hot not respond

I have the 5thGen iPod...connected to 1.8 Dual G5 Power Mac w/ current OS X Tiger/iTunes current version/. The First couple of days it worked fine video(Handbrake converted DVD's),songs all worked great.
The last time I charged the iPod it was stuck in (do not disconnect mode) and very very hot! I reset it and it came back up... Later some of the video files would play then all the sudden I would get thrown out to the Menu list... Now I removed all the fles from the ipod and tried to reload them (video and audio files) itunes/ computer locks up while updating
Has anyone had these problems? did I get a bad iPod?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

cant put music on itune from my ipod????

What is exactly happening when you connect your iPod to your computer for a sync?
i.e., does the iPod not get recognized by iTunes, iTunes displays a particular error messages, etc.
If you're getting any message, could you quote what it says? Or, if you're not getting any message, could you describe what happens when you connect your iPod?

How to save video to play on Creative Zen Vision M

My (PC using) friend just bought a Creative Zen Vision M (the competitor to the video iPod). It will play MPEG1, 2, and 4SP and will play MPEG's created in an older version of iMovie (I forget which, it's been a few years). For some reason, the MPEG4 version created by iMovie HD6 is not compatible with the Zen player.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to export from iMovie HD 6 in a format that can be used by the Creative Zen Vision M?

Sorry about your ZEN Vision:M. From what you mentioned, I don't think the data is recoverable under normal means. You probably might want to take it to a technician? or someone who is familar with electronics to see if they can remove the harddisk from the ZEN Vision:M and recover the data.

5th generation ipod games no longer supported???

I have a 60 GB 5th generation iPod video. I had a hard drive crash and lost all of the games that I had downloaded from the itunes store. Now, iTunes has restored all of my purchased items, but my 5th generation games don't seem to have appeared during the download. And, when I go to the app store, I can't even seem to find the games available for download anymore. Does iTunes no longer support games for the 5th generation iPod????

Syncing 5th generation ipod but where are the movies?

After syncing my 5th generation ipod video to get recently bought movies, I can't seem to see the movies, TV shows or music videos when I disconnect the ipod from the computer. Is there a setting or something I'm suppose to do or am I missing something?

I think it could be one of 2 things. In itunes (7.1.1) when you plug in your ipod and the summary screen for the ipod appears got to the movies tab and make sure the 'sync movies' box is ticked also below this it should say 'all movies'. Or on your ipod go to settings>mainmenu>and make sure movies or tv shows are set to 'on' they will then show in the main screen of your ipod.

5th Generation IPOD Charging icon incorrect

I have a 5th generation IPOD Video which has been exhibiting strange behavior. When the charger is plugged in, the battery icon indicates charging and when unplugged from the wall, the charging indicator goes away...but, when the cable is unplugged from the IPOD, the icon shows that the IPOD is plugged in. If you plug the cable (with wall adapter) back in, the battery icon does not show the "plug" anymore. It seems as though it's confused as to what state it's in. Also, when playing it, it will randomly freeze up. Sometimes it can be reset, other times it has to be plugged in to be reset - almost as if it needs more power. I tried putting in a new battery but it exhibits the same symptoms. Any ideas? Thanks...Craig

Even when you try to hold the play button down and put the ipod in sleep mode, the ipod shows the charging screen.

5th generation iPod Classic Battery Replacement

I just replaced the battery in my 5th generation iPod video after having it for four years. I followed the instructions that's supposed to help me get the most out of my battery. The battery life did increase. However, I expected a little more life from it. I'm thinking maybe I should reset/restore my iPod to original factory settings. Is this a good idea? Does anyone have any insight on this subject?

It won't do any harm... It will just make it like it was syncing for the first time. Music, video, and picture will be erased and other things will be reset; you will just have to re-tailor it to your liking.
For your situation, however, I don't think it's necessary. How long do you usually get out of it?

Just wondering whether there is any place where there is Creative Zen Vision M MP3 players, I have ordered with Dell and they have promised me that it is coming "soon" several times . I got mine yesterday in So Cal at Frys Electronic. They had all the colors..... I had the same problem. I called Creatri've and they told me they did'nt think they would sell so many. Sounds like the place I work for LOL. Lets see you will best of show at CES and you don't think you will sell a tun? I wanted to buy from the creative store but they have been out for a long time. I think they have them now.

Is there a way to get a Creative Zen Vision M 30gb to work on a Vista computer? It will save me buying my son a new MP3 player. Thanks.

I've been in touch with Creative support for over a week now but so far without success. Every time I download links they suggest I still can't access Creative Media Explorer, I just keep getting this error message:-
"The Creative Media Explorer that is compatible with this device is not installed. Please reinstall the application and try again"
This has included deleting all previously installed Crteati've files as well as downloading in a 'Clean Boot'. I've also rebooted my Zen Vision M.
At this rate I'll have to bin the Zen and look at an ipod:manmad:

Is there any legal way to get one of "creative zen vison m" players? I prefer new products... 60gb would be awesome..
Since Im fed up with Apple and got already n Touch i simply want a player with a good capacity and just to listen to music... and i pretty much liked the creative zen vision m player... more than any new product from creative... all of em are more like multimedia and not "classy"....
Furthermore I just find the product over google at customers site... if i browse all mp3players from creative I cant find the product i want.... It would be awesome if anyone knows a way to get a new one of these... and it would be kickass if it could get delieverd to EU/Austria

Creative Zen Vision M (30gb) - Is it the end?

I've read a lot of posts and think the only way to find a possible solution to my problem is to just post it....
I've had my Creative Zen Vision M (30gb) for about?2.5 years, apart from crashing a few times, I've always loved it and would never go near Ipod!
Lately however it's done something, that it has done before which is to suddenly 'remove' about 2000 tracks, it would go funny, crash and reset a few times, recharge with the plug and it was fine again, the tracks 'reappeared'.
Now it seems when it happened this recent time, 3000 tracks went and I was left with about 000. So i tried formatting everything cause it just wouldn't rectify itself, then I chose to reload the firmware but everytime I tried to connect it to my laptop it would say my player wasn't connected.
I have recently baught a new laptop with Windows 7 and even without the software it detects it fine and I think I could just drag music over to it now. BUT - It only has 50mb of memory! Plsu MP3 Recovery Tool and online detection firmware thingy justy doesn't think my player is connected or says cannot update firmware on windows 7?
So my questions?are - how do i fix it's Is my memory fried, would it be worth getting out the old laptop? Where do i go if i want to repair it's Even if it detects it in XP, the software doesn't detect the player.
Can anyone shine any light here? Am I forced to buy another Creative product or do I jump ship?

If the XP computer has WMP installed it may not detect the player (the firmware file) It works best on XP /SP2 WMP0 installed. The issue with WMP is a sticky in the MP3 players forum.

HI ALL,??I purchased a creative zen vision m a few days ago and i have played around with it to my heart's content.i just needed to air a few points i've discovered so far.VIDEO PLAYBACK:I tried transferring a variety of video formats to the player.some formats will transfer without the need to convert,some require conversion and some the creative software woudn't even convert even with directshown filters installed in the pc.listed below are the varoius formats i tried and the results?avii tried varoius avi formats but only divx and xvid encoded files played successfully which i didn't mind since most downloaded internet video is in these formats anyway.divx/xvid with .avi file extension at various resolutions -plays perfectly but to play full screen nati'vely its better the video was encoded at 320x240 or 640x480.anything else will have varying sizes of black bars on the screen but video with 624x352 widescreen?can be set to fill the screen with no noticable change in quality.i've also encoded at bitrates up to 900kb/s and they played fine.640x480 encoded video looks more crisp on the screen than 320x240 video though.some files with gmc played as well.The only problem is the audio has to be in mp3 format i.e xvid/divx with mp3 audio.Since the player doesn't support ac3 audio any video with ac3. or ogg/ogm in it's container woudn't be transferred and it would ask to convert it before transferring. What i don't like about the?transcoding is the only optuion is wmv9 at 320x240 resolution which from my experience?doesn't give you the best visual ?quality playback?.why should i have to convert a 720x480?or 704x576 video to 320x240 when 480x360 or 640x480 will look far much better on the player.
