Creator 2 update 9

I have installed the latest creator version I believe but I don't see the wizard similar to whats in the tutorial for portlets. I must be missing something.

My guess is similar to Marco's. If you are seeing update 9 somewhere then in all likelihood it is Creator 1. Please check the build number of the IDE. To get the build number go to Help --> About Java Studio Creator, then click on Detail tab and you can see the build number. The build number for Creator 2 is 060120. You can download Creator 2 at:

Dear,
I have installed Java Studio Creator Update 2 on my PC and I have prepared a prototype. now I have noticed that there are some components "xmlns:ui = " http://www.sun.com/web/ui ".
My question is: Can these components be used to Run Time to cost zero or it is necessary to acquire a license?

Creator Updates - any more cost / time effective alternative?

Is there a way to download the Creator updates on to a disk at (say) an internet cafe for later update of my copy - I have a very slow internet connection line , and usually terminate the update, halfway to the end ,because it takes forever. Beside it seems to update ant, jaxp, java api etc - all of which I have the latest version.

The update modules(.nbm files) are not public yet. I am not sure if this is the right solution but you need to have the creator installed on the machine to download the modules first.
Try this if possible..
- Install creator on the machine where you feel that you have high speed internet (On same OS as yours and with your own key)
- Connect to update centre and download the all the modules.
- In "View certificates and Install Modules" dialog there is a button Save Copy to save the modules. Click on that to save a copy of modules to a directory. ( all the files saved in this dierctory are having .nbm extension)
- Now copy these files to your machine where you have creator installed. Copy all the .nbm files to <Creator Root>/bin directory
- Start the IDE and it will update the ide with the downloaded modules.
I am not sure how usefule is this but there is no other way now.

When will the next official update come out for studio creator?

An announcement shall be made once the new update is available. So please keep checkcing this forum and the Creator home page. Also configure your IDE to check for updates at regular intervals. This would be of immense help.

Install WinDVD Creator Update (wc301231u.exe) uninstalls previous version without installing update.

Using System Update, I downloaded and ran the update for WinDVD Creator (and WinDVD).
System Update reported the updates were successful and a reboot was required.
After rebooting, WinDVD was updated but WinDVD Creator was gone from the Programs menu.
I attempted to run wc301231u.exe again manually. The installation routine started but reported that no version of WinDVD Creator was found to update. Prior to the System Update version 2.5 was installed.
I do not have the original media. Any way to get this running again?
BTW, System Restore is not an option. I have it turned off.

I have posted a thread regarding the same issue.
I have run the update myself (both for WinDVD Playback v5 & WinDVD Creator v3) from the System Update utility.
Both reported as installed successfully on the System Update "Installed Updates" log though the update for WinDVD Creator v3 keeps showing up on the available updates.
The version i currently have is version 3 so i guess the update went through, the path: C:\Program Files\InterVideo\WCreator3 - so y does it keep popping up on the available updates?

How can I enable for-each loop in Creator update 1?

I try to use for-each loop, but I got error message from compiler is
" for-each loops are not supported in -source 1.4. (try -source 1.5 to enable for-each loops)"
How can I switch my source to 1.5.. I am using jdk 1.5. Confusing.

Hi!
Actually Sun Java Studio Creator doesn't support Java EE 5 projects. If You want to create Java EE 5 project, try to use NetBeans with Visual Web Pack installed.

Studio Creator update

If an approximate time could be given for the JSC update I would appreciate it. In previous posts I've been told that due to company policy Sun employees could not discuss when updates would be available.
A date range (weeks, months) is all that I require. I'm still doing most of my development under the Visual Studio.NET platform, due to some bugs I've mentioned in previous posts. I would like to continue on with JSC (especially considering I've purchased it!) but I need some concrete times. Thanks,

Based on history, if I were an outside observer I would expect something to come out in time for JavaOne at the end of June. I'm sorry to be so vague, but once specific dates and features are announced, the announcement takes on a life of its own. Of course we have plans and schedules, and of course external and internal events can impact the schedules. We keep quality uppermost in our minds, and we make sure public perception of schedules doesn't compromise quality.

Newbie glad to learn of forum! ThinkVantage Update problems

     I'm thrilled to learn of this forum. Last year I bought my 4th T-series, a T61 15" wide-screen with WinXP (6459-CTO). Can it be that the new BIOS (2.09-1.08) or the Power Manager (1.22) updates I just downloaded and installed will really solve the screen brightness problem no one at Lenovo knew how to fix? I'm trying not to get my hopes up -- I've been unable to use this laptop in dark environments (e.g., next to my sleeping wife) because the screen went full-bright every few seconds -- but so far today it looks promising!
      Unfortunately, I also see bad consequences of updating:
   Wireless stopped working;
   ThinkVantage Password Manager icon disappeared from toolbar;
   ThinkVantage Password Manager add-in to Mozilla Firefox causes a
   huge, empty frame to appear beneath the bottom status bar.
     I uninstalled the Firefox add-in to fix the last issue, but now I have no access to stored passwords. For the wireless problem, I tried (in WinXP device manager) to 'roll back' the driver on the wireless card, but that didn't help.
     Have any of you had these problems and figured out how to fix them?

You asked for details on the wireless issue: Now (after updating, see original post), the tool tray no longer has the convenient Access Connections icon. When I boot up at home, AC does try to connect to my LinkSys router as it always could before, and it usually gets halfway, putting a green check mark on "applying wireless settings" but then it displays a red X below that and there is no connectivity. The error message is completely uninformative (I think it says "[Unknown]" ). The router is cabled to my SBC Global DSL modem and to a desktop loaded with the LinkSys admin software. I have encryption set up (I'm not at home, can't give details, but it's one of the more recent encryption methods), and nothing about encryption was changed by me to cause the failure. Wireless stopped working as soon as I installed uploads and rebooted.
Glad to hear the PW Manager / Firefox issue is being addressed. Please inform them that the tooltray icon for PWM also no longer shows.
Oops, big problem. I just went to lenovo.com and again downloaded and installed PW Manager (tvtpwdmgr32_1011.exe). Got (a different-looking, green-and-yellow) tooltray back, but when I click it, NONE OF MY PASSWORDS SHOW! Yikes, I'm in big trouble.
Now some good news: Screen brightness actually behaved this morning as I worked in the dark. Good work, Lenovo! I wish Thinkpad Support USA had been informed that this was a known issue.
Now if I can solve my audio problems:
- Buzzy left speaker
- Wave volume setting keeps defaulting to really quiet (2 out of 7 at WinXP's
       Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio).
- Keyboard "mute" button acts like a toggle switch (unbelievably BAD idea - think about it).

Reset Button in Creator 2 does not work properly

Hi,
I have created a form to create a user profile using Studio Creator Update 1. It has a few text fields. It has a checkbox "Add more details" which when clicked enables a few more text fields. At the end of the form I have a Submit and a Reset button.
Now, when I fill the form (without touching the 'Add more details' checkbox) and click the Reset button, the text fields becomes blank as expencted.
Lets say I enter some values in a few text field, then I check the checkbox, some more fields gets enabled (i do this inside the processValue method). Now, if I click Reset button, the form does not get blank. Even worst, if I change the already typed text field values and click Reset, these text field gets repopulated with original values. Is this a bug or a feature.
Any solution for this problem is greatly appretiated.

hi i am also developing similar application which have some textfields and submit and reset fields. Please help me how you are sending data to the database table and how you are editing the required rowgroup elements into that submit form from database. Please help me out by giving an example. I alos gone through the inserts_update_delete tutorial in java studio creator. Please give some example of code.
Actually i am using SQL Server database. Please i tried but it is showing cannot add new employee details. null. Please give me some instances of code for inserting , deleting and retrieving the data. Please help me out i am trying sincerely but it is really get frustrated.

Install fails for Creator on Mandrake Linux with AMD64

I tried to install the new version of Creator update 1 on my Mandrake Linux 64 bit version and it fails to find my JVM.
I'm able test my JVM by checking the version but it still fails.
I tried the -is:javahome option ---- no difference.
Tried installing the 32 bit version of JVM 1.5 update 7 does not make a difference with is option.
The installation of pervious version of 2004 creator works fine.
Any clue as to what might be the issue.
Any assitance on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Some Questions about Sun Java Studio Creator IDE

I am quiet new to the IDE, but I experienced some
behaviours I do not actually understand.
I hope I can get some help here.
Sun Java Studio Creator Update 9
Each time I change the font size and type using the
"Advanced" option of the IDE the font I changed correctly.
But after closing and restarting the IDE the fonts are set
back to the default undoing my changes.
Is there a way to use code completion for the jsf tags within jsps ?
I know that there are code clips for adding jsf components to the jsp,
but (coming from eclipse ide) I'd appreciate a feature like the code completion for the jsf components. If there is a way by configuring, how can that be acchieved ?
Trying to add a "taglib declaration" to the jsp e.g. "<%@taglib uri="..." prefix="..." I get the warning that the tags of the xml must be welformed.
How can I add those taglib declarations correctly ?
Using the "File System View" after each change made e.g. to a jsp the
tree collapses and I have to navigate to the tree again to find my resources.
Is this common behaviour or to be configured ?

1. The changes made to the font size and type are indeed getting reset in Creator update 9. However this behaviour is not seen in the latest version of Creator which is Creator 2 EA 2. The final version of this will be available very soon and we encourage you to try the new release which has lot more features and lot of bug fixes. For more details please visit:

The behaviour of the File System View was encountered in Creator update 9 as you have mentioned. Once again this behaviour was not see in the latest version Creator 2 EA 2.

Creator 2_1 Solaris x86

I am using creator to connect to the postgres 8.1.4 that came with solaris because netbeans 5.5rc1 will not show tables or views. Anyway, it works fine until I want to create an application with the db. Following the tutorial on the web, I am supposed to open the 'palettes' dialog to make a table. However, each time I try to open the palette dialog under View menu, Creator begins to consume all the memory and CPU on the system. I have to kill the process. I have installed all the creator updates and reinstalled creator completely without a fix in the problem. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Did you start postgresql before starting the IDE?Thanks, yes. Postgres is running all the time.
The problem with the Creator IDE is that attempting to open the palette option under View causes the IDE to hang and use 99% CPU. The problem with Netbeans IDE is that I cannot see any view or table, but I can connect to postgres and create tables (which are then visible in CLI or in Creator). Odd.

Updating tag attributes in design time

I have a design time renderer for my custom component... As the component renders itself in design time, I set some of the component properties from within the renderer... The property sheet correctly shows those values... However, the associated JSP tag in the source view does not show those attributes... The JSP tag attributes dictate the runtime behavior and since they are not set properly, my component misbehaves.
How do I make sure that the tag attributes sync up with the property sheet values?
Also, what is the motivation behind the property sheet displaying the component values and not the JSP tag values? Having it the way it is right now opens itself up to a bunch of out-of-sync problems like the one I encountered.

Ok - here are a couple of scenarios:
1. I have a component, say chart component associated with a connection component like this:
<my:connection id="connection1" />
<my:chart connectionId="connection1" />The user first drags and drops the connection component. The ID connection1 is automatically associated to it. Next he drops the chart component. Now, I would like to automatically populate the connectionId attribute without the user having to type it in manually. I am able to do that (in design time) in the renderer of the chart component - I programmatically look for a connection component on the page and set the connectionId attribute of the control. And when I do that it correctly shows the connectionId attribute populated in the property sheet but the corresponding tag attribute is not.
Sure enough, at runtime, it is the tag attribute values that count and since those are not updated by the IDE, it does not work as expected.
2. Creator updates the style attribute when I move or resize the component. Now, I also have position attributes left and top defined on my component and I use these attributes at runtime to position my component. So, in design time I extract the left and top values from the style attribute and set them on the component. But again, the tag attributes are not populated and so the component is not positioned properly.
#1 is to convenience the user so that he doesn't have to manually enter values for attributes which can be automatically populated at design time.
In fact for #1, I would ideally like to show the user a drop down list of all the connections available to him in the property sheet and select the first one by default. Is this possible?
#2 is for backward compatibility reasons - We already have runtime renderers in place which use left and top attributes explicitly to render the components at runtime. And this is not restricted to left and top only but other client attributes as well - such as borders, backgrounds etc. which we expose as separate attributes.

Trouble with Update Wizard

I am having trouble updating creator using the Update Center Wizard (Windows XP, sp2).
I see four items in the Available Modules list:
Java API Reference
JSE 1.4.2_06
Preview Features
Java Studio Creator Update 6
However, when I click the 'Add All' button, only Java API Reference gets transferred to the Include to Install list, and the Add' and 'Add All' button are greyed out.
Does this mean that all the other items are up to date? I would not expect them to show up in the Available list if I already had the latest version of the modules.

But Java API Reference module is a known issue that even if this module is updated, it shows in the list and downloads again if you continue. For now please ignore this as Creator people are working on that.

I guess the update should be available from the update center. Just download Creator 2 from http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/downloads/index.jsp and upon installing and running it check what's on the update center, I'm pretty sure that the update is there. (If it exists of course, I'm not familiar with Creator updates schedule)

Problems trying tutorial "Building a GoogleSearch Web Service Portlet"

with Sun Java Studio Cerator2 Update1, on a PC with Linux Suse 9.3.
When I try to run the portlet in the pluto portal simulator, I always receive the message:
"HTTP Status-Code 407: Proxy Authentication Required; nested exception is: HTTP Status-Code 407: Proxy Authentication Required"
in the Message Group component of the application.
I'm behind a firewall.
I have setting the proxy configuration parameters both in the IDE and in the browser (Mozzilla), as explained in the tutorial itself, but it dosen't work.
The proxy host server and the proxy port are settings correctly.
Infact, from the IDE, I can go to the SUN Java Studio Creator Update Center, and find the items.
What I'm wrong ?

yes normally I need a username and a password ( and I have it ) for the authentication on the proxy.
I have two situation:
1) The browser (Mozzilla)is already launch when I run the simple application.
When I start the browser ( Mozzilla ) it ask to me for user/password information, because my home page is setting on www.sun.com, and I'm behind a firewall.
So, when I launch the simple application from the Cerator, the pluto portal simulator start in a new browser page, and don't ask me usr/pwd again, but it use the previous provided.
Here I have the simple application in run, and I input the word on which I want to call the doSpellingSuggestion() method.
I press the "Spell" button and i receive the message :
"HTTP Status-Code 407: Proxy Authentication Required; nested exception is: HTTP Status-Code 407: Proxy Authentication Required"
