  • Two credit cards compromised in quick succession

Two cards have been compromised in quick succession - they're only used online through MacBook and I can't identify any site which both cards were used on. Any guidance to check for a virus or similar or to stop happening again? Thanks

Re malware presumably all i'd need to have done though is inadvertently click on a dodgy link or download?
Not quite. Clicking a link is not sufficient to infect you at this time. You would have to first download something from a dodgy site, then open the downloaded file. However, for all known malware, that would still fail - Mac OS X would prevent the malicious file from opening. It is not outside the realms of possibility that you have been infected by something that is brand new and never before seen by the security community. However, this is pretty unlikely. The last new Mac malware that appeared did so back in February.
I was just wondering too whether access to my Wifi network (at home) could lead to someone obtaining card details when I entered them into a retailers site??
This is also unlikely. An insecure wifi network can be dangerous, but any site dealing with credit card details will use encryption to protect the data. That would prevent a snoop on the same network from being able to intercept a credit card number directly. Of course, that might make it possible for someone to intercept other data, which could give them access to some of your online accounts. That could indirectly expose your cards... for example, if someone managed to hack your Apple ID, they could use it to make purchases without actually having access to the credit card on your Apple ID account.
Note that the only way an insecure network is a danger is if someone malicious is within range and can connect to that network. If you live in a rural area, or even a suburban area where the houses aren't too close, you probably don't have anyone within signal range, so a hacker on your wifi network would be an almost impossible scenario.

  • I downloaded the Mac Guard malware today. Then downloaded Apple update to remove it. But it was compromised for like 3 hours. Do I need to cancel all my credit cards now? I'm so freaked out! Please help.

I downloaded the Mac Guard malware this am. Then downloaded Apple update to remove it this afternoon. But it was compromised for like 3 hours. Do I need to cancel all my credit cards now? I'm so freaked out! Please help.

If you supplied name, card number, expiry etc. then your details are already available for sale/abuse and you should cancel at once.

  • The last two times I used my credit cards over the internet they were compromised.  How do I make my Mac secure?

The last two times I used my credit cards over the internet they were compromised.  If someone is accessing this information how can I make my computer secure?

My guess is that it's not your Mac, it's the sites where you're inputting you information. Always look for the lock icon and to see if the vendor is using a secure https site, and then hope for the best. Nothing these days is completely secure.

  • TS1424 I believe the credit card online has been compromised and someone has purchased from iTunes without my permission. What can I do?

What can I do if my credit card has been compromised and someone has used it to buy from the itunes Store?

    Wpgjets wrote:
... What does iTunes do to track the ones who steal CC numbers and use them to make iTunes purchases?
What they do is up to them, but loss prevention may include suspending that Apple ID for purchases until such time the fraud is rectified. They may pursue the thief for chargebacks and fines from the issuing bank and take whatever other legal action they deem appropriate. In any event none of that involves you, presuming it's not your job to investigate criminal activity. As long as your payment method continues to be accepted by Apple, you don't have to do anything else.
Changing your Apple ID password once in a while is a good idea though, and if Apple wants to compel you do so you will find out when you attempt to log in here or make a purchase. Be wary of "phishing" and never click on any links in an email that may appear to be from Apple, as authentic as it may seem. This is a popular way of stealing Apple IDs and all that it entails.

  • HT3702 my credit card details were compromised in itunes

My credit card details were compromised in itunes, if I put my new credit card details in , will this too be compromised?
Has this happened to a lot of people?

    UPDATE
I think it was the card details compromised only, not the itunes account as the fraudulent purchase stopped by the card company was not shown on my itunes account.
I can not therefore be sure it was itunes that let my card details "escape", though this was the first attempted fraudulent purchase.

  • HT204053 My credit card was "compromised" on Christmas eve ...

My credit card was "compromised" on Christmas eve and since then I have not been able to use my  account to access movies I have already paid for. I visited my account settings and it would seem that unless I have an active credit card associated with my account I can't get to my already purchased movies.

  • Hi there, I recently got my emails (rescue and primary) compromised and had to make a new account. How do I get my credit card off the old account and add it to the new account?

I recently got hacked and I had my primary email password different from the password for the email. Now, I tried to change my primary email on the old account and it seemed to work, until I tried to sign in again and it didn't. I made a new Apple ID and it won't let me get past the option of not having to put in my credit card, now I had messaged Apple Support team and they said they put a hold on my card for if any unauthorized purchases be made it wouldn't be from me.
So now I go and ask them to simply remove my credit card from the old account so I can put it into my new one and they say you need to contact the Apple Security Team, they provide a number which doesn't work because I live in Lebanon, and there is no number in another country to get a hold of someone to talk to. OK, now they're not replying back to my emails because I need to talk to someone who is from the Apple Security Team.
I really just want this done and need help because it's been a month since this has happened, and I can't rescue my emails at all because the hacker changed the passwords to both accounts. If anyone can please help, I'm really really frustrated about this and to think they'd be very concerned about there 'valued' customer.
    Thanks again,
    Lydia101

It was O2 he was on. I don't know if it was unlocked. How do I check? And also how would I get it unlocked?

  • Fraudulent Credit Card Charge on iTunes Account

I saw a few of these posts and wanted to let folks know that if you get unauthorized charges on your iTunes account you should do the following:
    1.  Have all your info ready and available to discuss with an Apple Rep.
    2.  Call the Apple Corporate number: 408.996.1010
    3.  Be prepared to go through a couple of folks as they get you to the very sharp fraud folks...a shout-out to Justin who helped us on our charges!
    4.  Contact your bank (again, because hopefully you contacted them prior to making the call to Apple) and close the card used to make the charges.
We had two charges of $39.98 show-up on our account as 'Pending'.  After talking to our bank we were directed to speak to Apple because they (the bank) couldn't do anything until the charge went throguh (still don't understand that part...I'm sure it's a bank thing).  I came to this forum and found a post that said to go to the 'Support' page, click on the 'Contact Us' and notify Apple.  It appeared many users were frustrated because all they could find was an e-mail channel to contact Apple.  I saw the corporate info in the upper right hand corner and used that number...pretty easy to find and very easy to navigate the phone robots...:)
I was transferred from the operator, to an iTunes tech (named Ashley who was very helpful), to her supervisor Justin who handled the fraud claim.  Justin worked through the account, ID'd the card being used, found that TWO separate bogus accounts were set-up using our credit card (hence the two separate $39.98 charges), also found that the charges had cleared (where our statement and the bank saw it as pending), refunded our account the two charges, disabled the two accounts that were set-up with our card, and then removed the compromised card information from our iTunes account.
After the Apple assistance we called our bank, explained what happened and what Apple did, and closed the card and requested a new one.
So this pretty frustrating and scary incident turned out to be easily rectified...we're very happy with the excellent customer service from Justin and the entire Apple team.
Now if there was just some way to nuke the lazy scum bags that hack accounts and steal money from people who actually earn it!...;~)

Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. The only people who will reply to your posts are we your fellow users.
Since you don't say what resources and methods you've been attempting to get this matter resolved, it's difficult to offer suggestions. But if your credit card has been used without your permission, your primary recourse should be to your credit card company to report the unauthorized charges and have them issue you a new credit card. If your card has been compromised such as to make unauthorized charges on the iTunes Store, it's highly probably that it can be used elsewhere.
As to removing the card number from your iTunes Store account,  see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
You should be able to change or remove the card information there. If not, go here:
    iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store, if you have not done so already. If you have, please post back with a summary of what they told you and perhaps someone can offer additional suggestions as to how to proceed.

  • Fraudulent Skype Charge to Credit Card

At least once a week, I review my credit card charges posted to my account.  Today, I noticed a charge for $25 posted by Skype Communications initiated on Jan 7, 2015.  I do have a Skype account; however, there is no billing information on file nor have I ever purchased anything from Skype. I contacted my credit card company about this matter and they concluded my credit card information had been compromised.  Therefore, I will be receiving a new account number and cards this week.  I'm not sure if I am a random target, but I figured I'd share this info on this board.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Please take a look here to verify credit card charges allegedly coming from Skype. These instructions help you determine whether these charges were based of valid Skype order or if your credit card info was used fraudeulently and which actions you should take in each case: Why has my credit/debit card been charged by Skype when I haven't made a Skype purchase?

  • Credit card hacked, thru Safari?

Greetings. Recently my credit card was hacked for plane tickets on an airline that doesn't fly to or from the U.S. where I live. I'm guessing it was somehow taken when I used my credit card for whatever reason on my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard.
I'm wondering what I can do to stop this from happening again. Is it possible there is something on my computer that is allowing someone to see when I use my credit card online? I've never had something like this happen so I'm really just grasping at straws for any way to protect myself. Thanks for any help.

Has FoxFith says the card could have been compromised many ways, have you reasons to suspect the MacBook. The MacBook could be the weak point if you have been using software with known vulnerabilities but unless you have good reason to suspect it the problem is probably elsewhere.
if you know the MacBook is definitely the problem, like any other operating system the only sure way is a software reload from known clean sources and a clean formatted hard disk drive to start with.
if you go down this route make sure you have known tested backups of your user data and reliable sources for the OS and software.
Edit. Just noticed your second post, just because the card was compromised in the US does not mean that data would be used there, it could have been sold to anywhere in the world.
hope you get it sorted, not a nice thing to happen to anyone.
