Credit card not accepted in new country... Why / what now?

I just moved to Hong Kong on a temporary basis (one year) and created a new Apple ID for the Hong Kong store. However, Apple won't accept my usual credit card from Switzerland. Why on earth is that?! I have an address and even a bank account here, but since I already have three Swiss credit cards, I really don't want to pay more fees for a fourth one.
How am I supposed to pay for my purchases now? In the US and in Switzerland, you can buy gift cards everywhere but I haven't spotted any in normal stores in HK...

The credit card needs to have been issued by a bank in the country where you are - so if you are in Hong Kong then you can only use a credit card that was issued by a Hong Kong bank and which is registered to your Hong Kong address. Why it is like that I'm not sure.
As far as I know gift cards aren't available in Hong Kong, and as they are country-specific you won't be able to use cards from other countries.

I entered the same card info I have always used, but was told iTunes would not accept it. I thought perhaps they were no longer taking AmExp. So I entered my Visa number. I should add that I had to replace my iPhone a few weeks ago. After that I went thru a period where I kept having to redo my password. Not sure if the issues are related.

Credit Card Not Accepted

First time trying to order a photo book and it's getting frustrating!
Every time I try to buy the book it says that 1-Click can't accept my credit card. There is no problem with my card - I use it all the time and confirmed with the company just now. I've triple checked that the number is entered correctly, billing address is right, etc.
This is my first time ever trying to purchase something through apple online. Am I missing a step?

I am also getting an error message: "Your credit card information could not be verified at this time." It keeps saying it over and over, and I have updated all of my billing information both in iPhoto and iTunes.
I found the other user's information useful because it is 2:30 AM where I am now, and I am going to try it again tomorrow during more regular hours. Maybe the servers are down or whatnot.
And for a rant of my own, Doug found a solution to his own problem, granted it is not a definitive answer, but Doug is sharing his experience and what he did that helped to work and certainly wasn't ranting. So I really don't see why you are giving him such a hard time.

Do you get any error messages when trying to redeem it, and was the iTunes card issued in the same country as your account is based (they are only valid in their country of issue) ? Credit card not accepted on Irish iTunes Store

I Live in Ireland , and have a Netteller Mastercard, its a pre-paid Mastercard, and was applied for and sent out to my Address in Ireland
But when i try to use it on the Itunes Store, it says this card is not Valid in Ireland.
Can this be resolved in anyway, as i only have a pre-paid credit card and a Maestro/

If you are an old timer, sometimes the App store gets confused about your account.
You might be "oldtimer"
Or you might be "[email protected]"
This is the situation for me (Yes, I am old and long suffering).
This situation means sometimes you have to log in as the other user to get things to work, or to see things you have already purchased. I assume this is due to the fact that I was an iwork/iweb/.mac/whateveapplecallsitthisweek/icloud user.
Other then that, you might login in to the web interface from your mac and try to update your crdit card info from there. If it's all correct and the card is good it SHOULD go.

How do I change my credit card billing address to another country? The iTunes billing address edit only offers an option for a different State, but my credit card billing address is now New Zealand.

I recently moved out of the US to another country and changed my billing address at my credit card company to my new country. Now iTunes won't let me edit my credit card billing information because the "edit" option on the billing address only lets you change states, not countries. There is a non-spendable balance on my iTunes account because it's an odd amount, and iTunes won't let me change my iTunes store to my new country as long as there is a balance showing in my US iTunes store account. So I'm stuck. I can't spend my balance in my account. I can't change the balance to a spendable amount because iTunes no longer accepts my credit card because my credit card's new zip code billing address doesn't match my iTunes account. I can't change my iTunes account to my new country as long as there is a balance in my US iTunes store. How can I change my iTunes account information to my new country under these circumstances?

I am stuck with a similar problem. I moved from Ireland to the UK but for some reason, iTunes would not let me change the country in my payment information, it remains Ireland. I do not have any credit to spend and I still cannot change it. I even set up a new iTunes account and the country still remains uncangable. Hence, I cannot add the details of my UK card as iTunes believes it is set in Ireland. Have you managed to solve your problem?

then you will need to enter credit card details before the account can be used in the store.
If you don't have a credit card then you will need to create a new account, but this time follow the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating it. If you want to use the same email address then you will need to replace it on that account first e.g. via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, http://appleid.apple.com, or by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone.

there may be several reasons why your credit card may be declined by the iTunes store ,
the reason the iTunes store require c.card when you setup your apple id is for verification purposes
if you have called the iTunes store in the past about unrecognised charges, or unauthorised activity ,
then your bank may have blocked your card from being used on the iTunes store, i would recommend contacting your banking institute
