Credit for Purchasing Original iPhone at Full Price?

I have been out of the country for several months, so I know I'm a little behind here, but was there ever any sort of compensation for those of us who purchased the original iPhone at full price? I heard that there was an iTunes credit or something similar.
If there is any sort of compensation, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks so much!

Because #1 & #2 dont make sense unless there is a cost difference based on whether you bought your old iPhone before or after Apple dropped the price.
I 'm not sure where the confusion lies. The 1st gen iPhone has been out for a year. There was a price decrease after the first 3 months, and as a concession to early adopters, there was a rebate/refund of $50 or $100 back to the iPhone purchasers. That offer has now, as mentioned above, expired.
The 1st gen iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T, so the user paid for the phone up front, and then subsequently the contract charges (including the $20 data plan) each month for the projected 2-year period. Since all 1st gen iPhone owners *by definition* got non-subsidized iPhones, AT&T says we are eligible for the lowest tier pricing. So are current AT&T users who have fulfilled their current contracts that included a subsidized phone.
The second price tier is for an early upgrade. This from the AT&T site: "You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required." That's for folks who are still in a contract for a subsidized phone.
Hope this helps.

  • How do I purchase a IPhone at full price from the Apple Store.

I have been a Verizon customer for over 10 years, and I currently have the unlimited data plan.  I was informed that if I upgrade my IPhone I would be required to switch to another Data plan (because the unlimited data plan is no longer offered).  I was also informed that if I am willing to pay full price for a new phone, then Verizon will allow me to keep my current plan.
If I am going to pay full price for a new phone, I would like to purchase it directly through the Apple Store instead of through Verizon.  Unfortunately, according to Apple, the only phones that I can purchase for full price are unlocked phones and these phones do not work with Verizon plans.
Has anyone been successful with purchasing a I-Phone from the Apple store at full price and using Verizon as their service provider?

        Hello and happy Sunday LADYTLC,
The iPhone is easily one of the most popular phones of all time! With it's sleek design, super easy user interface, and innovative functionality, what's there not to love. I want to see you enjoy all the iPhone has to offer on the our data network. May I ask which iPhone are you interested in getting? This amazing device can be purchased online, by phone, or in our corporate retail locations at retail value. • Is it cheaper in the end to buy a new iPhone at full price?

Normally I just take the current special that a cell phone company is offering and lock in for two years.  So far that has worked out fine.  But if I decide to buy a new iPhone at full price, does it work out to be cheaper in the end?
    Thank you.

This depends, are you on an old voice and data plan where the company over charges you from day one to pay for subsidized cell phones.  They you should definately buy a subsidized cell phone.  You are already over paying for service to cover the subsidized phones cost.  If you don't buy a subsidized phone every two years, the overcharge is just more profit for the cellular company.  Be aware they will charge you a $40 activation fee just because they can.
If you have moved to one of the new voice/data/text plans where you are expected to bring your own device, then buying the phone outright make sense.  Here again, you will be charged the dreaded $40 activation fee.  With AT&T, you can do their NEXT plan and pay for the phone over 20 or 24 months.  And the NEXT plan waives the $40 activation fee.

  • Is the iPad 2 charger the same as the charger for the original iPhone?

My understanding is that the charger that comes with the iPad 2 is more powerful and will charge the iPad 2 more quickly than will the charger that comes with the iPhone 4. However, the iPad 2 charger is the same shape as the charger that came with the original iPhone. Does anyone know whether the iPad 2 charger and the original iPhone charger are identical in function? (BTW, my understanding is that the iPad 2 charger will not charge the iPhone 4 faster than that phone's charger will).

No, they're not the same. I compared mine awhile back and while they're the same shape, the iPad 2 one has writing on it that says "10 W USB Adapter". The one for the original iPhone doesn't have that writing, but if you compare the detailed input-output information, it does show that it is less powerful.
I believe that's why Apple changed to the two different sizes, so you can quickly determine which are for "phone" type devices and which are for "larger" type devices.

No-one here can anticipate Apple's response but if the 'wrong' app was purchased by accident and the right one is available on the App Store (like a name variant) they may agree.   Worth writing anyway.

  • Has anyone purchased the iPhone 4 full retail price?

I'm currently thinking about purchasing the iPhone at the unsubsidized price which is $700 for the 32GB iPhone 4. But my upgrade is available until May 8 of this year.
I'm a kinda impatient person but working on being patient but I really do want the iPhone.
Has anyone bought the iPhone 4 at a unsubsidized price or was it subsidized?
I'm on a family plan also and my sister line (primary) and my mother line (month to month non contract) is available for upgrade. I can use those I hope...
    Thanks...

Many people on here have bought the iPhone at the full retail price because their upgrade wasn't up yet. In your situation, I would advise you to wait until May 8th, it's a lot closer than most people's and it's a substantial discount when you wait. You'll save $400. Or as you've pointed out, you can use your sister's or mother's upgrades right now if they don't mind, and then whoever's upgrade you take can use yours on May 8th. That would also be a very good choice, rather than purchasing the full retail iPhone.

  • Is it legal to sell Iphone 5 full price and locked ?

I've bought Iphone 5 from Straight Talk. Paid full price at the register and later I've learn that my phone is locked to ST. Is it legal for them to do so? There is no contract and I paid full price. If I knew that I would've bought one from Apple Store, unlocked. After HOURS of talking with ST support, they said, there is nothing they can do, and cannot unlock phone because they do not have ability to do so. And suggested for me to buy a new(!) phone that is unlocked. Unfortunately for me I do not like to be taking advantage of and do not have an extra $700. Plus I do have a new phone. They even called me difficult. I've just wanted an explanation why my phone is locked, or why I was not told about it upfront, before I've bought it. Or why it is a full price then.

The problem is that I was told that it was the official unlock status checker.  When I spoke to Straight Talk the confusion apparently arises that CDMA phones are apparently listed as "locked" even when they are not since they require more steps than GSM phones to allow a hookup to a new carrier.  According to Straight Talk, the reason they do not offer "unlocking" is that ALL of their phones are unlocked (so I can take this phone over to Verizon without any issues).  CDMA phones CAN be locked but Straight Talk says that none of their phones are locked PRECISELY because they offer no-contract.  I just wish that they would make this more explicit so that this confusion would be alleviated.
Once again, however, I was angered by the dismissive attitude by posters on this board. To blame the customer is the height of arrogancy and only causes more bad blood.  It is absolutely NOT the fault of the customer to think that a full price phone OUGHT to be unlocked and it certainly should NEVER be the fault of the customer if she or he has specifically ASKED for an unlocked phone.  Anyone blaming the customer in such cases is simply being a jerk.
I think that this might have been the same issue that BLUEO had. If posters would ask relevant questions and come across with some sympahty to those of us who have legitimate gripes, asking and answering questions in a thoughtful manner, blood pressures could be reduced and everyone could find answers.  It is clear to me now that the problem lies with the fact that unlock status checkers may be incorrectly flagging CDMA phones as "locked" because I note that some people actually THINK that they are locked simply because we do not use SIM cards and thus require access to a computer to reprogram it rather than simply popping a SIM card into it.  Thus, I think the confusion in India that I experienced. It could, apparently, have been used with one of India's CDMA providers but the vendor there probably wasn't used to CDMA since India's CDMA carriers only started operating with iPhones a scant 3 months ago.

  • Official unlock for all Original iPhones

Given that the maximum subsidy period for any of the original iPhones was 24 months, would it be rational to expect that 24 months after the very last sale of an original iphone, that apple would release a carrier update to ALL original iphones to network unlock them?
I see no logical or commercial reason why this should not be done. Apple keep going after 'green' points, making slightly more useful many thousands of original handsets is plenty green in my opinion.

Regardless, at the end of the day it is the carrier that initiates this, not Apple.
AT&T will unlock some AT&T carrier locked phones when requested by a subscriber during a 2 year contract or after the contract expires, but they aren't obligated to do so by law and AT&T doesn't do this for all AT&T carrier locked phones. If AT&T wanted to unlock an iPhone sold in the U.S., all they need to do is send Apple the request if indeed this is required. This is up to AT&T and AT&T only in the U.S.

  • Headphones for the Original iPhone?

Besides the V-Moda Vibe - of which I've had two pair; both broke - can someone recommend a decent set of in-ear headphones that will work with the first gen iPhone? I'm working with $100-$150.
    Thanks!

The thing is, not every headphone jack fits the original iPhone. I got a pair of Bose headphones for Christmas and they did not fit, for instance. I had some great in-ear buds for my iPod when the iPhone came out and they didn't fit.
If you use Ultimate Ears with a first gen iPhone, which model are they? At least I'll know those fit.
