Crescent moon next to contact's name in Messages

There is a moon next the name of one of my contact in Messages. Does that mean they are in Do not disturb mood???

Yes. If you want to turn it off, select a conversation, tap "Details" in the upper right, and then turn off Do Not Disturb.

  • I don't see my contact's names on message anymore, why?

I've been using message for a while and it has always been working fine.
Once I messed up with my internet accounts and eventually I fixed it.
Now, even though message is sync with my iphone and I see incoming messages on both devices, I don't see my contact's name on my IMac.
On my Iphone continue to work just fine, but on the Imac I can't see their names...ggrrrrrr!!
Does anybody know what might have happened?
    thank you all,
    Lorenzo

Please try each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    Step 1
You may need to synchronize contacts between the Mac and your other devices. One way to do that is via iCloud. On the Mac, open the iCloud preference pane and sign in if you haven't already done so. Check the box marked Contacts. Do the equivalent on your mobile device(s).
Make sure that your contact accounts are enabled in the Accounts tab of the Contacts preferences window.
    Step 2
If you use a messaging service other than iMessage, then from the Messages menu bar, select
View ▹ Buddy Names ▹ Show Full Names (or Show Short Names)
    Step 3
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Region
From the Region menu in the window, select one of the preset regions. If one is already selected, choose a different one, then change it back. Close the preference pane. Quit and relaunch Messages.
If you still have the problem after taking those steps, post your results.

There is a crescent moon shape next to my time display in top border of Ipad3. What is it?

That is the DND, or Do not disturb option. It silences all incoming calls, text messages, emails, alerts etc.. when the device is locked and in sleep mode.
Go to Settings->Do Not Disturb. You can turn it off or on.
It can also be scheduled to automatically turn on and off, in Settings->Notifications->Do Not Disturb

  • PEN TOOL: How to draw a "crescent moon" shape ?

    Hey guys..
I'm in the process of teaching myself the "scary" pen tool once and for all! ...and I've been doing my own tracing exercises lately, and THOUGHT I was kicking some real butt. I thought there was no shape I couldn't conquer!
Only, I recently ran into a simple "crescent moon" shape. And I'm a bit stumped.
I can do it pretty easily with 3 points: 2 on the tips, converted to corners, and then one on either the inside or outside curve.
But, based on the 'ol "put the points at the END of your curve "rule" (as opposed to the middle), part of me thinks I should be able to do this with just 2 points.
    Right?
I'm sure this is a simple thing... but the best I can get is a "half circle" shape, with one straight side and one curved side.
    Am I over-thinking this?
    Thanks in advance!
    e

    Ed,
A basic (and important) aspect of drawing with the Pen:
You're in the process of drawing a path. You clickDrag to create the end of a new curved segment. As you drag, you watch the curvature of the segment preceding the anchorPoint you are now placing. As you drag, you don't worry about the shape of the
next segment, which doesn't exist yet.
When the curvature of the preceding segment is as you want, you stop dragging BUT DO NOT MOUSEUP. Just stop dragging. You want the next segment to
not begin tangent to the one you just completed; you want a "cusp". Press and hold the Alt key and continue to drag. Now the outgoing handle moves independently of incoming handle, allowing you to position the first handle of the next segment as desired, without disturbing the last handle of the previous segment.
Practice that a kazillion times, until you can do it without thinking. You'll find that it prevents your having to continually switch tools to "convert" points and adjust handles.
That and a few similar "momentary" keyboard modifiers are essential to drawing with the Pen efficiently. The goal is to avoid the necessity to revisit the Toolbox while drawing paths and thereby making "hard" tool switches out of the Pen tool, because doing so breaks the Pen's ability to resume drawing where it left off, after you make an adjustment to an earlier part of the path.
One of the basic disadvantages of Illustrator's path manipulation interface is its inability to pull one retracted handle out of an anchorPoint without disturbing the other.
You can draw your crescent using two anchorPoints thusly:
    1. At the top point of the crescent, ClickDrag diagonally downleft. Mouseup.
    2. At the bottom point of the crescent, ClickDrag diagonally downright. DO NOT MOUSEUP.
    3. Press and hold Alt. Continue to drag to a position upleft from the bottom anchorPoint. Mouseup. Continue to hold Alt.
    4. At the top point of the crescent, ClickDrag upright. (Because you are holding Alt, the ClickDrag at the starting point will not wreck the pre-existing curve handle of the first segment.)
(There are, of couse, easier/quicker/more accurate ways to draw a crescent. It is tedious to maintain circular roundness of curves approaching 180 degrees of arc with just two anchorPoints.)

Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data.
If this does not work, try to reset the network settings in Settings/General/Reset. After that you'll have to put in the passwords for all known networks again.

Are the contact details in your contacts app, the phone app uses the contact app to put names against telephone numbers.

  • How do I delete photos and photo albums from my iPhone? The instructions given do not work. No "delete" symbol appears next to the album name, and no trash can icon appears below most of the pictures the computer just put on my new iPhone 4.

How do I delete photos and photo albums from my iPhone 4? The instructions given do not work. No "delete" symbol appears next to the album name when I press "Edit," and no trash can icon for me to click appears below most of the individual photos in the albums the computer just loaded on my new iPhone 4. When I synced the new phone the computer added these photo albums without permission from me. They are now taking up about 3 GB of memory on my phone. I would like very much to get rid of these photos from the phone. How do I do this?

To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.

an event in one of my libraries no longer has the event icon next to it's name in the browser just the name only. I can't view the clips in the event or import new clips. I've tried deleting the event and nothing. After control clicking the event it shows all the media that has been previously imported. But it does not allow anything to be done to the event including deleting. This showed up at the beginning of a normal import session. This is fortunately the back-up evant.

Did you perhaps mess with the contents of the library in the Finder?

  • On ios7, How do I only have a contact's name popup when they text me rather than the entire text?

I just bought the iPhone 5s and am having trouble setting up the messaging as I had it on my iPhone 4s. When I receive an imessage or text message, I prefer that only the contact's name shows up on my lock screen. Right now, the contact's name and the entire text pops up on my lock screen. How do I fix this?
I went into General Settings and then Messages, and have played around to try and fix it, but haven't had any luck.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

  • Got a crescent moon shaped icon in upper bar on home screen?

I've just gotten a crescent moon shaped icon in the top bar on the home screen of my iPhone 4. Running iOS 6.0.1. Anyone know what this is for, and/or where I can find a master key of iPhone icons?

You should probably start your own thread for this. The thread you posted to is both old, and unrelated to your question.Would also help if post a little more detail.

  • Do not disturb icon is always on crescent moon

I have also noticed crescent moon icon is always on Do Not Disturb mode.

This is what it looks like when grey. Turning dnd off doesn't change it.
    Thanks for your help anyway.

  • I can't join a network, because everytime I type in the password, join greys out.  It has a lock sign next to the network name, but I'm not sure how to unlock it.

I can't join a network, because everytime I type in the password, "join" turns grey.  There's a lock sign next to the network name, but I'm not sure how to unlock it.  Can you help me??

The way you "unlock" it is by typing in the correct password. The lock indicates a private network that requires a password. Are you sure you have the correct password? Is this your own home network?
Why don't you reboot your iPad and try to log in again. Hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the button and the iPad will shut off. Turn back on by pressing the sleep button again until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. See if the iPad will accept your password.
If that doesn't work, you could try tapping the blue arrow next to the network name and then tap Forget This Network. Restart your iPad as described above. Then go back to settings, tap WiFi, select the network and enter the password again and see if it works.
