[cRIO] Connection to MAX
Everytime I connect cRIO to my laptop, MAX cannot communicate with it until I restart the laptop.
Is there a solution to this?
What I do:
1) My laptop is on.
2) I connect an ethernet crossover cable to the laptop
3) I power up cRIO
4) I open MAX. cRIO is listed as detected, but when I click on Advanced Ethernet settings, I get a time out (56) error.
4a) It does not matter if I get the RESET button of cRIO or hit Refresh in MAX
5) I restart the laptop while leaving cRIO connected and powered.
6) I open MAX again. This time cRIO is detected and there is no time out error.
- Thanks
At the moment I don't have another computer or router to try (3) and (4).
I tried this:
1) Power on cRIO
2) Connect the crossover cable to laptop while the laptop is off
3) Power on the laptop and open MAX
4) MAX shows that cRIO is connected and running, but when I click on Advanced Ethernet Settings, it times-out (56)
5) I toggle the IP Reset switch on the chassis and hit Reset on the chassis.
6) MAX detects cRIO and shows that it is unconfigured.
7) I use the suggested values, where the gateway values are left blank.
8) Once I applied the values, MAX reboots cRIO.
9) The result of Step 4 is shown again.
10) I restart the laptop with everything else still connected.
11) MAX shows that cRIO is connected and Advanced Ethernet Settings is responsive.
When I was setting up the cRIO for the first time, I couldn't get it to work because of the time-out error (56).
I couldn't download any software to cRIO. Then I got the experience that restarting the laptop 'fixes' that
problem.
Also, when MAX says that cRIO is 'Running', the vi doesn't seem to be running. How do I compile or load the
vi so that cRIO could run it autonomously when I hit reset?
- Thank you

I've been using the remote panel right along with no problems to connect to my Compact Fieldpoint. This morning I accidently opened the connection twice on the same computer and tripped the "Remote panel connection exceeds max number of licenses" error. Now it will not let me connect anymore from my computer. I've tried clearing cookies, cache and history in Internet Explorer and rebooting my computer. I've fired up the Remote Panel Connection Manager which shows no connections, and the NI License Information window does not show any connections which have been denied due to max # of clients being exceeded. Is there a way to reset this without having to reboot my RT controller? I'm running RT8.6 and LV 8.6 Full Dev System and understanding that it should come with 1 remote panel license.
Thanks
maat
LV2014The boss wanted to see an updated feature, so I was forced to deploy a new version and reboot. Problem went away as I suspected it would.
I did manage to make the same mistake again this morning (launch the remote panel in 2 different MSIE windows) and after closing them both I could reconnect. Must be a glitch or a bug? It'd be interesting to see if anyone else has this problem. For now...solved, but it would be nice to see a way to fix this without rebooting.

Problems connecting to cRIO-9024 in MAX
Hello,
I can't see my cRIO in MAX. I have followed instructions on other guides but to no avail. I am using windows 7, LabVIEW 2012, MAX 5.5, I have to latest NI-RIO installed (NI-RIO 13). The cRIO has the correct setup, the status light is flashing 3 times etc.
It is probable something very small and basic that I have missed, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
ChrisI have both of those installed, and I jave RT and FPGA installed also.
I have reinstalled RIO just now to ensure that it was the last instulation and that all drivers were connecting but it still is not showing up.

Reboot a remote cRIO lost in MAX
Hi,
I am working with a cRIO 9014 that is far away from my office and inaccessible during the winter. I was testing a program that transfers files from cRIO to Host PC using TCP network connection and I definitively lost contact with the cRIO. I can ping it and look at the files on its "ftp://" but it always appeared disconnected in MAX and when I tried to reboot it from the project explorer, I get a message saying that the cRIO may be offline or unresponsive. Briefly, the cRIO is still on my network but doesn't respond to LabView and MAX.
I am sure that my program in causing this problem and my question is that : is there any way to reboot this remote cRIO without doing it manually? I tried to use the "RT Restart (IP).vi" but I always get error 56 (time out) TCP Open Connection.
The cRIO is connected to an ethernet switch and has a static IP address. Is it possible to regain control if I restart the switch or doing this will make the situation worse ? (this was just a thought).
Thanks in advance for your answers.Hi Vakpo,
I am afraid to say you may be out of luck. One thing you may want to try is to add the controller in MAX using the IP address. If you right click Remote Systems, click Create New>>Remote Device and enter the IP address. If this does not work, you will have to manually reboot the controller.
One suggestion for the future is to implement a watchdog that will automatically reboot the controller
Here is some more information on setting up the watchdog:

Hope this helps.

Can any one help me to solve the issue...
VijayHi Vijay,
I suspect that this issue is because your system does not contain an RT compatible partition for installing LabVIEW RT.
If your system is configured for dual booting Windows and RT, then you need to have two partitions on your disk, one for Windows (typically NTFS) and a second for LabVIEW RT (either FAT32 or Reliance).
Since you already have windows on the target, you should first boot into Windows and attempt to create a second FAT32 partition for RT if you have some unpartitioned space available on your disk (depending on the version of Windows, they may require 3rd party tools). Another option is to freshly install Windows on the disk using the NI-provided OS Recovery media, which has installation options for configuring a disk to support dual-boot Windows and RT.
As to your original issue as described I have forwarded on your problem internally for further investigation - in general simply lacking a formatted partition should not cause RT safemode to reboot. In your specific situation, however, it would still be best for you to configure the paritions from within Windows anyway instead of using the tool in MAX to ensure that the Windows partition is correctly preserved.

Nexus 1000v svs connection increase max-port increase
Hello All,
Does anybody know the impact if I increase the max-ports under the svs connection from 8192 to 20.000.
We are using ESX version 5.0
Best regardsYou shouldn't have any problem. 20,000 is a supported number for vCenter 5.0.
You can verify by checking the VMware vSphere Configuration Maximums guide for 5.0.
Looking at the guide I have it says the number of Distrbuted virtual network switch ports per vCenter is 30,000.

Adding my Ethernet Connection in MAX
I am trying to use MAX to add my (only) ethernet connection to the list of VISA controlled ports in LabVIEW. How is this done?!?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
RussThanks for the quick responses. I guess I didn't give enough detail in my original question. I'm trying to connect a LeCroy WaveRunner 6051 (Oscilloscope) to the system through ethernet. However, I can see no ethernet port in the VISA I/O control (only my serial, parallel, and GPIB ports). So I was guessing that I needed to setup the ethernet port (using MAX) before I would be able to use it in LabVIEW.
So, I'm in the process of setting up a VISA TCPIP resource, but am having a bit of trouble with it. I guess the Oscilloscope is not VXI-11 compatible as no instruments are found when I try to setup a VXI-11 resource. Instead I'm trying to setup a Raw Socket. However I'm not sure of what the Port Number is. Is this number pre-configured to the instrum
ent (do I need to look this number up somewhere), or do I just assign it and use it when I address the instrument?
Hope this is a bit clearer, and thanks for any response.

Serial will not connect unless MAX has been started
Hello All,
I am using Labview 7.0 , MAX 4.6.0f1, NI-VISA 3.0, Windows XP. A Microchip PIC USB device is attached to the Labview PC, the PIC embedded code registers as a Virtual Serial port and behaves as expected, I use Labview to read and writes simple fames of text.
I found I can communicate ok with the device and need to create a distributable Application, this is where I have found problems. I installed the application on a different machine but I don't see any serial COM x text in the serial drop down list. I was expecting similar function to the device manager which enumerates serial ports on the fly (including the PIC i am using)
Having read a few posts it looks like I need VISA runtime. I thought I was including this in my application as I selected, Tools > Build Application>Installer Settings> Create Installer X > Advanced > Serial Port Support. The only thing that seems to make the application pick up the serial ports is to run MAX first. I would prefer not to force users (15 to 20) to install MAX and then have the Labview automate a MAX startup when the program is started. This seems a bit clunky.
Advice appreciated
Thanks Chris

Go to Solution.Hello Jamie,
Thankyou for the responce, I have tried ( and tried ) to get this to work without success so far. I downloaded NI visa301full.exe and followed the instructions regarding the batch.bat file however when I finally got the visa install popup to appear it progresses to the progress bar window, the progress bar fills to about 30% for 1 of 16 then removes the progress, waits a few seconds then part fill the progress bar again, and repeats over and over till I cancel. After some reading I noticed the batch file is only needed for multiple exe install so I removed the batch file and have been trying to call the visa301full.exe directly to make things simpler.
I tried manually installing the visa301full.exe and this worked fine, so at least I can see my application and visa301full.exe working together when they are installed. Ive attached my build file as hopefully Ive done something daft there. I think its probably nearly there, I appreciate your help and advice.

Internet Connect error - Max connect time
I am trying to help a friend with his Powerbook G4 at 10.4.4 configure dial-up networking with his internal modem.
When I click the "Connect" button in internet config it briefly shows a status of "Contacting PPP Server" then immediately presents a dialog box with the message "The connection was terminated because the maximum connection time has elapsed."
Although I have verbose logging checked in the ppp configuration in the ppp options of the network prefpane for the internal modem, Internet Config does not write anything to the log. The modem selected is "Apple Internal Modem (v90)". I have tried other modem selections with the same result.
I have tried dialing the modem with zTerm and that works. So, the problem does not appear to be originating with the modem.
What is causing the time out condition and how do I correct it?
ThanksThere was probably "maxconnect x" (with a numerical value for x) in either /etc/ppp/options or /etc/ppp/postoptions that was causing that -- unless there was a script that specifically called for maxconnect to be used as an option.
/usr/sbin/pppd is the executable that handles ppp connection. it's not a matter of Internet Connect being sensitive to it; that is what handles the actual ppp connection. -
Safari very slow on HTTPS connections, ocspd maxing processor
I noticed Safari was really increcdibly slow on Facebook and Google Maps in particular. I noticed lots of processor activity with 'ocspd' so I turned off HTTPS on Facebook and that fixed the sluggishness completely.
Google Maps is still incredibly slow though. It's fine with Chrome.
I also tried logging in as guest on my computer and there are no problems with Safari and maps loads almost instantly, so there must be something odd with my setup that's causing this.
I am running 10.8.2 on a 2.7GHz 15" retina.Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar. In the text box that opens, enter
/var/db/crls
From the folder that opens, move these two files to the Trash:
crlcache.db
ocspcache.db
You’ll be prompted for your administrator password when you do this. Then reboot, empty the Trash, and test. -
Hello,
I'm totally new to NI and LabVIEW, so I may have done many unnecessary steps or missed something obvious, but here's the rundown (what I can remember) of what I tried:
I'm trying to make a cRIO-9073 (newer revision, IPreset switch does not reset IP to 0.0.0.0) work with LabVIEW 2011 SP1 (includes MAX 5.1.0f0 and NI-VISA 5.1) installed on Windows 7 Professional SP1 using a crossover ethernet cable. MAX does not recognize the cRIO in the Remote Systems tab. After initial problems, I was able to locate 2 IP addresses corresponding to the cRIO, but its still does not appear in MAX. I have tried the following:
refreshing the list using F5, rebooting the cRIO, and using the IPreset switch
reinstalling drivers on the computer using September 2011 NI System Driver Set CD
manually adding the a new remote VISA system in MAX (tells me that a device is already using that IP address)
manually adjusted the LAN settings in the Windows control panel and disabled DHCP
edited Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
manually set IP address and local subnet mask to match the cRIO settings
Added exceptions to the Windows firewall
NI-RIO RPC Server
VISA Interactive Control
I think that the software and/or drivers on either the computer or the cRIO may not be up to date or compatible with the rest, but I'm not too sure on how to install software on the cRIO if I cannot see it in MAX. Any ideas?
Thank you!

To add the device manually you need to select "Remote Device (not on the local subnet)" not "Remote VISA System". The cRIO should try and default to a link local IP address (169.254.x.x Range) if it can't communicate with a DHCP server. This will likely be the case with the cRIO connected directly to the computer.
If your computer isn't on an agreeing IP and subnet mask its likely that the cRIO wouldn't show up unless you add it manually. You don't want to set them up as the same as the cRIO as they need individual IP addresses. I would recommend setting the subnet masks the same and adding one to the last number of the cRIO's IP address, which should allow it to show up in MAX.
Very useful document for this kind of a situation: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/abe4bc247e8ac9bc8625734e005cab42?OpenDocument
When I tried to add it as a "Remote Device (not on the local subnet)," I got the error message "The device at this address is not supported by the drivers installed on this host." I checked that my version of NI-RIO 4.0 is compatible with the cRIO-9073.
Also, I ran through the link you provided, and the steps did not remedy the problem. When I ran the cRIO with the CONSOLE OUT switch ON, I was able to get lots of information from the cRIO in the command prompt in Windows. This makes me think that there are no problems with the cRIO, but with the software I have installed on Windows. I'm not sure what else I can try to install, though. -
Unnable to connect with crio via project explorer
Hello
I'm having problems connecting the CRIO-9073 via the project explorer.
I can see my crio in my project, but when I try to connect, it deploys for 5 seconds, then I get the message 'failed to connect to target'.
I can connect the crio within NI MAX, I configured the network settings with static IP.
I can also ping the crio via the command prompt, I have labview realtime module installed.
I also did a disk format on the crio and reinstalled all the software on the crio.
Do I need other software? Or anybody other ideas.
In the attachements you can find the error message and the list of software installed on my host pc and crio.
Thanks!
thank you for fast answer
Yes checked the whole list of software to install on the crio.
As i'm not sure with software I need on the crio I didn't remove any software (I'm new to labview).
I first added it 'automaticly' , but also tried it by adding it manually and enter the IP.
Both didn't work and gave me the same error message.
Yes Im connecting with the explorer while MAX is open and connected with the CRIO -
