Crisp Text Turns Fuzzy In FCP Post Render
I have been reading up on the discussing in ref. to importing text and graphics from motion, which is a blast! I'm currently exporting some text into a DV NTSC 16:9 FCP timeline. I'm exporting from motion using the NTSC 16:9 pic aspect ratio / 8 bit.
What I experience is that the text looks great in Motion and in the FCP timeline BEFORE I render it. Once I render it... it goes a bit fuzzy. I have not checked it on a TV. I have already tried exporting it out (DV current settings) to see if FCP has fully rendered it and it still looks fuzzy.
Any ideas as to why it goes fuzzy after rendering? And is there a fix?
I've done two things. First I have just saved and imported it using my Motion Project settings (NTSC DV Anamorphic 8 Bit / Motion Codec Compressor) and I have recently exported it using the QuickTime Animation Codec). And...
You are absolutely right! It looks crisp in the viewer (w/the native codec) and 'fuzzy' in the Canvas after rendering into the NTSC DV Codec!
Is there any way to optimize this compression? Can / should I use a timeline that is NTSC friendly (29.97 / 720 X 480) in a different Codec? Is that possible / make a difference?
What would you advice or is it just a limitation?

Text goes fuzzy when picture is placed in graphics frame
I have been using InDesign for over a year and love the software. One thing continues to drive me mad and I dont know whats going on.
Basically when I add a picture into a layout, often (but not always) the text goes fuzzy similar to anti-aliasing being turned off (its not). It just did it again this morning. I have laid out a drop dead simple business card, text is crisp. I add a graphics frame and everythings still OK. I place my PSD file into the frame and bang the text goes fuzzy. If I select and delete the graphics frame the text sharpens up again.
I have had many situations where it does the same thing but also times when it doesnt. I can see no obvious link between what I am (or am not) doing and why this happens. I also considered that this was just a display issue and it would be fine when sent to a PDF but the quality of the text in a PDF is noticable less with the graphic than without it even at "press" quality.
All help and suggestions appreciated.
JonCheck the pages panel and see if there is a Chequerboard beside the page. This indicates transparency in the PSD.
Does your psd have a transparent background?
Try opening the psd and save it as a tiff.
Select your image in photoshop and create a path. Change the path to a clipping path.
Save it as a tiff.
Place the tiff.
Go to Object>Clipping Path Options
Choose the path you created in photoshop.
Is the text still fuzzy? Just need to check that it is actually the PSD that is causing it, and making it a flat tiff with a clipping path will clear that up if it is.
You only need to have the background transparent if you're placing the image on a colour other than white, usually. So if the image doesn't need transparency in it or a transparency background the leave it flattened with a white background, but retain a clipping path if you ever need it.
Usually PSD files are fine to place and to use in InDesign.
Well hope something here helps. -
PDF Text Blurry Fuzzy... but only on one machine...
I could really use your assistance. When viewing a PDF, one user can see the PDF text with great clarity, but the same PDF viewed by other users, the text appears fuzzy / blurry. I've tried to massaged about every Preference I could (within Acrobat) and through Windows 2003, but nothing worked.
The machines (corporate image) are (should be) identical as is the hardware.
Has anyone successfully resolved this issue?Thanks for your help.
I'm using Aperture 2.1.4, sorry I should have mentioned that in my original post.
I've installed the RAW Compatibility Update nonetheless, but no joy.
I did a consistency check on the database and nothing came up. Then I did a rebuild and it almost worked. Luckily, I did this on a copy of the library. It removed most of my images from my library, but those that remained (which were a seemingly random subset of my whole library) were fine.
I'm now making another copy of the library from the Time Capsule
It's strange that it would be a problem with the database if it works fine on my MBP, don't you think?
I'm out of ideas! -
Arabic text turns into #####
Hello all,
I have checked a thread having this problem but the solution is not given so I had to open a new thread.
I have an arabic smartform and at the preview level all is ok and arabic text is appearing very well, but when printed, the text turns to ####### on the printted paper. I tried to print some arabic text using MS Word editor to check that the printter supports arabic and arabic was printed correctly which means that the problem is within SAP, in particular, printter setting.
so can you please help in how to setup the printter setting in SAP to allow printing arabic?
Thanks in advance.Here comes the solution.. given by SAP note 776507 ..

About 10 minutes after launching Chrome, the header text turns to hieroglyphics. What's up with that? I have a screenshot...As I am typing this question, my menu has changed to hieroglyphics.
Sorry I can't help you except to say that I was having problems with a momentary freeze on the trackpad action on an MBP and I traced it to Chrome. Chrome was generating a lot of console entries and the machine worked much better after I got a copy of 'find any file' for three bucks and used it to itentify all files containing 'google AND chrome', which I dumped in the trash. Things have been much better since then.

Post-Render time waste for H264 & ProRes Export on Windows?
There is one thing that bothers me all the time.
If i render to some 1 Gbit/s windows network location, everything is fine until multiplexing starts, and it goes like this:
1. Premiere CC creates .m4v file for video and .aac file for audio - thats OK.
2. Then multiplexing starts and some temp file like "s3r4." is created - no problem.
3. After that Premiere creates desired ".mp4" file with suffix ".mp4._00_" and copies "s3r4." to that file
4. Than it renames ".mp4._00_" to ".mp4" and render is finished
The thing i don't get here is why Premiere have to copy already multiplexed file "s3r4." to "_00_" file
and than rename it back to mp4? This procedure takes a lot of extra time if you have some huge file size (4GB? 8GB?)
The other thing: i have also installed Drastic MediaReactor for Direct ProRes export from Premiere CC on Windows.
Files are huge, no multiplexing in this case, but still after render Premiere starts
it's unneeded copy process of ".mov" file to ".mov._00_" and than back to ".mov".
I've tried to "end task" and just use the uncopied ".mov" which is available immediately
after render and it works fine and has no problems at all. I have also contaceted
Drastic Tech on this case and they said they have nothing to do with this copy/pasting.
That's why i don't know why Premiere has to copy/paste post-render files to the same location after render.
In case of ProRes they can reach ~20GB and you can imagine how long does it takes to copy/paste
such file especially to a network location.
Why instead of "copy" Premiere can't just use a "rename"? That could be blazing fast!Try exporting to a local hard drive instead of one on a network.

Does Compressor make FCP re-render the sequence?
It seems that when we have a sequence with lots of filters, it takes compressor a longer time to compress than when we have no filters. (same length of video)
Does compressor make FCP re-render the sequence? It takes SO long sometimes... even with a quad core.
I would think it would just use the render files. Or are they not good enough?
In order to save time, we have even exported the movie, then compressed it. It took 1/4 of the time.
Is this normal?
ThanksYou are correct. When you create a QT movie (self contained or reference) you have to create the media that is either contained or referenced. If anything requires rendering, then FCP will use the seqeunce settings to determine the codec for any non-native media. So, if your sequence is DV and you have animation clips within, when you create the QT movie they will all be rendered into DV upon export.
If, on the other hand, you export via compressor, the base layer will be handed off to compressor. Therefore, if you have any animation files (for example) they will be handed off to Compressor natively and not via the sequence settings.
The downside is that FCP is locked up for the duration of the encoding process.

[Solved] Gnome-shell text turned to rectangles after botched upgrade
Hi all,
I've run into a problem that I just can't solve, so I was wondering if somebody with a lot of expertise could help out. My system has a couple of stability issues; it freezes up every few days, and I have to make a hard reboot (I think it's related to the video card, but I haven't had the funds to go get a better one yet). The last time it froze was during a pacman upgrade, and I had to reboot. At the new boot, after logging in, all of the gnome-shell letters turned to rectangles (see screenshot), and I had a bunch of other errors. I ran another upgrade Sync with pacman and rebooted; that took care of the errors, but the font problems still remained. The interesting thing is that the gdm window has no problems, I can see the icons on the top right just fine, and the date renders perfectly. It's only when I log in when the blocks occur, and they only occur on gnome-shell panel text (and on everything under Activities).
I have a 32-bit system that's fully migrated to systemd with open source radeon drivers. Here's some output of journalctl for the current boot, with stuff unrelated to the gnome-shell display removed (e.g. NetworkManager, UFW, etc). However, I didn't find any new errors compared to logs from before the upgrade.

I tried using gnome-tweak tool to fiddle around with the fonts, but that didn't help, none of the fonts would render correctly. Cantarell, which I'm assuming is the gnome-shell font, is still in /etc/fonts/conf.avail, so I don't think that the font file itself went missing. I made the fontconfig update a while ago, and that didn't cause any problems.
I also heard that there were problems with xorg-server, so I downgraded xorg-server, pixman, and cairo to their previous versions, but that didn't help either. EDIT: I've also done a pacman -Syyf gnome-shell to try and reinstall gnome-shell. That also didn't work.
I've run out of things to try. If someone else was more familiar with the workings of gnome-shell fonts, or had a better idea of how to debug, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
UPDATE: I found that /etc/fonts/conf.avail/31-cantarell.conf existed, but was empty. After doing a pacman -Syyf cantarell-fonts, they went right back to normal!

I'm not sure, but i think installing xf86-video-modesetting helped to fix this issue.
I had an error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log like this:

Crisp titles while redbar but soft after render?
I have beautifully crisp titles when they are still redbar but as soon as I render the title it turns VERY soft. Is there any way to maintain crispness?
I am editing in DVCPRO 100 720p.
Thanks!
MarkThanks Bill, I read the article and I understand the process of rendering previews and the concept of red, yellow and green bars.
The deal is that before I ever render a preview...just bring in a simple company logo (jpeg) and a persons name (premier titler) over a simple background every thing looks sharp and clean. At this point I have a redbar above this clip.
Now when I simply hit return and render a prieview the same image now becomes soft. You have to look close but my experienced eyes see it like night and day. When I finally go to media encoder and export the same clip in my standard P2 DVCPROHD 720P (Use Previews unchecked, Render at Max Depth checked, and Use Max Rendering Quality checked) I end up getting the soft looking image as compared to the original "unpreviewed/unrendered" clip that is sharp and clean.
It just kills me to not get these clean looking titles that I see while in the redbar status.
Thanks,
Mark -
How did my text turn red?
Hi again,
You guys were so helpful with my first question I thought I'd try another one:
You see, I started using Dreamweaver CS5. Obviously, I didn't know how to use it because I messed some things up. Another thing that happened was that most of the text in many pages turned bright red. It looks awful! I started correcting each page by hand, but I'm hoping the problem is just a simple coding error that happened to change all the text. (BTW, I'm back to using Dreamweaver 8 which doesn't confuse me as much.)
I have a feeling that again there's an error in the following page:
http://karathecomputertutor.com/3col_leftNav.css
You can see a couple examples of the bright red text on these pages:
http://karathecomputertutor.com/backing_up_to_cd.htm
http://karathecomputertutor.com/word_changing_page_margins.html
It would be great if someone could help me correct this problem! I promise to get back to you sooner this time.
Thanks.
KaraIn the CSS file, find this rule at the top
body{
font-family: Arial, sans-serif;
color: #FF0000;
line-height: 1.166;
padding: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;
margin-right: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
margin-left: 10px;
and delete the line color: #FF0000; which means turn all body text red.
Are you editing the CSS by hand? I don't remember this issue last time you posted. -
I laid out some pages in DreamWeaver CS3 with a background
image I applied to the page using the page properties window. The
image is set not to repeat. In older versions of Internet Explorer
the text is smeared like a bad fax where the background image ends
in the background. I ran a browser compatibility check which showed
everything is okay. When IE is updated the problem goes away. I
have not been able to confirm what version of IE is being used
because the software has been updated before I could find out.
Page
in questionOK. It looks like you made a post card, but you don't have enough pixels to show detail in the type. If the words are still in text layers, you can fix that pretty easily through resizing. Go to Image>Image Size and check Resample in lower left. In the Resolution input box, type in 300 PPI.
That should add a bunch of pixels to help render the type more clearly. IF the type is not in a text layer... well that would mean having to recreate the card to get sharp text.
If you mean "pixels per inch" then it is 72.
EDIT: 72 PPI is too low. For this it should be 300 or higher.
