Critical Error in my Nomad Jukebox 2

I am getting the message: "Critical Error: unable to detect HDD. Shutting down." I have restarted numerous times, recharged the batteries, had it pluged in etc. Prior to this error the hard dri've was making an aweful sound. Any other options? Should I send it back for repair? Anything else I can do. How do I reboot?

Hey thanks a lot for the link and the info. Didn't know you could upgrade these. With a little work finding the elusi've fifth screw I was able to open it up and reseat the hard dri've which got it working again. Now time to back it up. Depending on the cost I'll either upgrade or head towards an ipod. I found a big broken piece of something in this which leads me to believe it's on its last leg.

  • Jukebox 20 gig has "critical error" could not detect HDD shutting d

I just powered the 20 gig up, and the critical error message apeared. Is there anything I can do?

Poking around a little more I see some suggestions about this error being caused when the batteries are too low. I was actually trying to use it plugged in but without batteries. I had put it away and so I took the batteries out. If these batteries don't work can I use regular alkaline batteries? If the HDD is actually bad (I found out that the article that used to be on nomadness.com was about how to replace the HDD) I'm just going to chuck it, but I'd like to see if it can be solved by charging or replacing the batteries.
    Thanks

  • Nomad Jukebox 6GB - Original OS image file

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has this file available. The HD in my unit died the other day and I want to stick in a new one. As far as I can tell, the rest of the unit works perfectly.
I stuck in a working 20GB hard dri've, but am now stuck at "Critical Error - Could Not Load OS". Really wish I imaged this thing before the HD went.
There used to be an image available on Nomadness but that site is long gone.
    Thanks!

.Re: Nomad Jukebox 6GB - Original OS image file{ I already tried both 2.98 and 4.0 downloads. The problem is that unless I'm doing something wrong, these 2 updates do NOT work on a brand new HDD that is plugged into the Jukebox. It just says "Update Failed" when I try. I've used these updates before in the past (when the unit worked) and my understanding is that it only UPGRADES an EXISTING OS. Unless there's a way to physically extract the binary files from the Creative executable and somehow load them into the unit directly.
I'm guessing the only way I can save this unit from the trash heap is if someone out there has a copy of the first 32768 sectors of the HDD available, as that contains the OS.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.

  • Nomad Jukebox 2 Software Needed Badly ! Please He

I have a Nomad Jukebox 2 mp3 player that I just love. I know that it has lost it's service life, but I just do not to upgrade. I have lost the installation disc, and each time I go online to support and download from there, I get errors, and it will not load.
Can someone help me to get this connected to my computer?

  • Nomad Jukebox 3 Software Installat

I just purchased a Nomad Jukebox 3, and it came with an installation CD.
    After following the prompts, near the end of the install I keep getting the following;
'An error occured while setting up the driver'. Have tried installing 'JBDrvWhQL__20_04c.exe. But still get the same message.
Consequently when I connect the Jukebox via a USB Port it's not recognized.
After the install I have a Creative Player Detector in the system tray, but it does nothing.
Why can't I install the driver. I'm running Windows XP Home addition SP2.
    Thanks

Here's a thing! When I plug in the jukebox to the USB Port it powers up, but no icon appears in the tray and Creative Play centre tells me I'm not connected. So I power of the JB and I get an USB icon in the tray. Clicking it brings me to a window, telling me I have an unknown device. When I try installing a driver from the CD for this device, it tells me it can't find one, even after I point it to the .inf file.

  • Nomad Jukebox Protected Tra

Greetings, I have an old Creative Nomad Jukebox (6gb). There are about 3 gigs of music that are on it right now. What I need to do is transfer all the mp3s to my computer's hard dri've. I know how to do it through MediaSource, but the problem is that about 3/4 of the tracks are protected and it will not transfer the tracks that are protected. I have looked through the Jukebox's settings and I cant find any options to unprotect the tracks. I have also looked everywhere in MediaSource and cant find any options to unprotect the tracks there either. I have already gone to nomadness.net and tried the mass unprotect program...it gets errors and i've tried it on two of my computers already, both running windows xp. I have even downloaded PlayCenter2 and tried that, there arent any options in there as well.
So am I missing somewhere to unprotect the tracks or can it just not be done? If it cant be done i will have lost a lot of music that took a very long time to get. Thanks for your help.

If the battery is more than a few years old may be time for a new one. Lots of sellers on ebay . A few have the OEM batteries for sale. I would only buy the OEM ones.

Have you tried the Rescue Mode options such as Clean Up and Format? See the sticky thread for the details.
My JB is still going strong, though it has its 2nd 20GB hard dri've in it now! Both the 6GB and the previous 20GB were still working though I sometimes got transfer errors with the first 20GB which is why I changed it again.

  • Connecting to Nomad Jukebox 3 using MediaSource for XP-64

I am currently running Windows XP-64 and own a Nomad Jukebox 3.
I have downloaded the latest version of Creative MediaSource (for XP-64) which includes the Nomad plugin. Does this mean I'm able to connect to my Jukebox from here ? I can only see "My Computer and PC music Library".
    Clayton

    Hello,
    Many thanks for your replies.
Unfortunately I could not get the device to work, this is what I did:
) I made sure that I had downloaded everything for CMS. The latest version I have is Creative MediaSource, release 3.30.2. I then hit "Check Update" and I received the following message:
Status: No updates are necessary for your Creative product. Your system already has the latest versions installed.
    2) I then went to Tools > Settings and I have the following set:
    Enable Detector - Checked
Play Sound On Detection - Checked
    "NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen" - Checked
"Show Detection Window to Select Task to Perform" - Checked
    3) I then closed down CMS and took out the USB from my Jukebox and from the back of the PC. The PC played a sound when I reconnected, however when I went back into CMS I still have the same screen.
    4) Also, I have an auto shutoff after a couple of minutes. When the Jukebox switches off, XP-64 then displays an error "USB device not found".
    5) Please also note, that there appears to be no device written for the Nomad Jukebox 3 using XP-64. Do I need to wait for this driver first ?
    6) The really weird thing is that XP-64 "knows" it's a Nomad Jukebox !! Whenever I reboot, remove the USB and reconnect XP-64 says "Nomad Jukebox" found !! The problem then, is that it's asking for the latest drivers.

  • Zen Nomad Jukebox NX hangs up during EAX load

My Zen Nomad Jukebox NX hangs up during the loading of the EAX screen. I've looked trhough similar problems and solutions on this page without finding any aduquate solution proposal.
    I've tried doing the following:
entered the rescue mode and tried to "clean up", when i do this nothing happens and i may contiue selecting the clean up option or select another. It doesn't seem to affect the player at all.
I've also tried to select both "reload OS" and "Format all", both times the player gives a error message, "harddisk problem".
Since the computer is unable to detect the semmingly not functionable player I can't find access my player.
    Solution?

A "hard disk problem" error is a serious one, and clearly indicates something awry with the hard disk. You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Software Setup- Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 3

i've formatted and rebooted my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. I've tried downlaoding all sorts of things from nomadworld.com and nothing seems to work with Creative Mediasource. Its got the new firmware and i tried to download and install the plugin for all the nessisary items, but when i attempt to install it, it says an error has occured and forces me to close it.
if anyone could provide me with links to what i need to download to have my computer recognize and put mp3s on it, it would be appreciated.

You need to download the following:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
    2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    3. Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players
Install . then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2. and 3. (the player must be connected for 2. to verify you have a Creative product).
If they won't install then it suggests a problem with Windows, so make sure everything is OK there and clear out your temp folders.
