CRITICAL QUESTION ABOUT ATTRIBUTE CHANGE RUN?

In the master data load process chain there are several hidden small Attribute change run for each and individual loads and at the end there is a final Attribute change run this is causing delay for loads. i think this is been done this way because there are several delta loads going to the same infoobject, so it is doing Attribute change run after each and every load going to the target.
My question is it mandatory to do this Attribute change run after each an every load going to the same data target or can we have only one big Attribute change run after all the master data loads to avoid delay and to improve load performance?
Thanks in advance!

Hi les,
u can run manullay also attribute change run for particular infopbect whichever impacting the peroformance thruogh RS1 goto "Tools" menu and select apply attribute change run and select infoobjects whichever u want to run.
I think it will help u. In this way u can run only relevant infoobjects ultimately it wont efect for system perofmance also
assign the points if it helps.
thanks

  • BWonHANA: Attribute Change Runs (ACR)

    Dear all,
I have a question regarding Attribute Change Runs (ACR) in BW system running on HANA.
According document: Attribute Change Run it suggests that ACR may not be needed in BW running on HANA DB. However I'm looking for some experience in this topic. So is ACR needed? If so does it run faster comparing to legacy DB?

  • Small confusion about aggregates and attribute change run.. plz explain

    hi bw experts,
i am having a small confusion regarding the aggregates and attribute change run.
as far as in know if there is any new master data loaded, then we will activate it by context menu on the particular info object and select the option activate master data.
the second one is going to tools--?apply hierarchy/attribute change run option.
my doubt is is the attribute change run related to aggregates is yes then how,.?
appreciated if you plz help me in detail both these concepts and wherther there is any connection between them.
    thanks & regards.
    vijay..

    Hi Vijay sagar,
    ATTRIBUTE CHANGE RUN:
1)It's used after you change (add/delete/modify) attribute in the master data. You've to make it in order to have an effect after you modify it.
2)Once the master data has been loaded, the hierarchy/attribute change run is performed. Once this process chain has been ended correctly, master data and texts are available in an active format in SAP BW.
    To get it :
    1. tcode : RSA1.
    2. Tools -> Apply Hierarchy/Attribute Change
    3. tap on Info-object list button (checking what master data you've modified before).
    4. tap on selection button for type of job
    5. Execute.

    AGGREGATES:
1)Aggregates make it possible to access InfoCube data quickly in reporting. In doing so, aggregates help improve performance. (See Aggregate.)
2)In order to be able to insert aggregates effectively, it is important to find out which aggregates are frequently used or have not been used in a long time.
3)Aggregates contains not only general data but also data that appears in an aggregate after data is filled and rolled up. Reporting in this InfoCube reveals how often data was loaded into an aggregate, how long filling and rolling up took, and whether it took longer to read or write the data.
4)Adding when Rolling Up in Aggregate  counts the time required to write the data to the aggregate.
The Records, Read for Aggregate Structure key figure  counts the data records that are read for constructing the aggregate.

  • Attribute change run process doesn't run in the chain

    Hello everyone,
I have implemented a process chain with multiple parallel processes (12, like the batch processes in the application server) and I have put for each stream a loading of master data followed by the attribute change run process. When I run my chain then I find that one o two Attribute change run process doesn't run (the InfoObject chosen seem to be random!). The chain remain in yellow color. Can you help me anyone about this question?
    Regards,
    Francesco

Couple of thing you should keep in mind while loading master data.
if two loads are targeted to the same infoobject they will collide and as a result the later load will fail.
it is a good practice to use only one Attribute change run in the end before you load master data. but if there are dependecies you can use several in series
Also when you set up Attribute change run make sure that Attribute change run will pickup only the particualr infoobject not all the objects in the Attribute change run list.

  • Attribut change run

    HI,
I've one doubt about ACR.Since we deactivate all the aggregates and activate all the aggregates after attribute change run to speed up attribute change run whenevr we undergo system master data mass update?
Is this the correct way to handle this and another My question is if we are not loading any data in some xy cube but whenever we are doing mass update to master data we still deactivate that xy cubes aggregates and then activate the same.
Now if we are not laoding any data in the cubes then why we need to bother about aggregates of that particluar cube.I think we don't need to touch aggregates of that xy cube because we didn't loaded any new transaction data in it(Note cube already has previous years data ,I'm reffreing new data is not being loaded into cubes but this cube still being used in queries)
is this something related to historical records?
    Can anybody clarifies my doubt?

    Hi Rubane,
Its like this, an ACR is used for updating master data changes. I'll try and explain with an example.
You have material in the cube and an attribute material group of material is switched on a navigational attribute.
Now since this is a navigational attribute, you can add it to an aggregate to improve your query performance.
Now a material group can be changed for a material at any given point of time.
say material X earlier had material group A but now has material group B.
In youe aggregate, you  have all values corresponding to material X still assigned to material group A
    eg aggregate Z
    Material Group  material key figure
    A                      x            100
This is where an ACR comes into picture.
If you run an ACR for material, it activates the master data and then realligns the aggregate with any changes
So now your aggregate looks like this
    Material Group  material key figure
    B                         x            100
So now to answer your question, yes we need to realign the aggregates even if the cubes are not being loaded. This is to take care of any master data changes that occur.
As for your second question, i do agree that its better to have aggregates with a '-' rather than none at all, since these help in the selection. Rather than selecting data from the cube, the query selects the data from the aggregate which is faster.
However the draw back of such aggregates if that they take a long time to fill. and nothing really changes i.e. very few records are summarized. I would suggest in your case, that you look at the aggregates and check the usage field. If you are continously activating and deactivating the aggregates, this really wont give you any idea. However you can still check this field. The more the value, the more times the aggregates is used.
Generally there are aggregates which have no usage at all. These can  be deactivated which will save you some time.
Also check for the aggregates which are taking time. You can check the logs for the change run. You will  see some values like /BIC/F**** where the ****** indicates the aggregate no. Go to table RSDDAGGRDIR and find the aggrcube field and enter this value. You will find the aggregate. You can then run some checks in RSRV for the cube. You can also try deactivating and then reactivating the aggregates. This will remove any inconsistency in the database for that aggregate which will save you time.
    Regards.

  • RSA1 Setup and Hierarchy / Attributes Change Run Activation

I have perfomed a Hierarchy / Attributes change run in RSA1, but althought it shows no errors; in some transactions (reports) its not updated or rather it still shows the previous and the actual hierarchy values overlapped.
One of the possible solutions its to deactivate and reactivate aggregates, I already entered 0 in transaction RSCUSTV8, also try to find info objects and click  on activate master data but none has the option and they are not assigned.
I been reading some solutions that involve making changes to the data that shows in different parts of transaction RSA1, the problem is that in my case there are no data in the transaction just shows some unassigned info objects.
In fact SAP ask me to provide a System Logical Name prior to use transaction RSA1. So problably there are more set up steps missing.
Does somebody knows where should I look for answers.

    HI Ramya,
Activation master data is different than running Attribute change run.
Activate master data will only activate the master data in info object(Change the records in M version to A version.
Attribute Change Run will activate the master data in info object and updates the aggregates with new data if you have any aggregates built on this info object.
Be specific while asking the question.

  • How to make Attribute Change run alignment & Hierarchy changes in Aggregat

    Hello
I want to understand that How to make Attribute Change run alignment & Hierarchy changes in Aggregate?
I posted previously the same question but there were not good answers and i was not able to understand clearly .....
If there is Process chain XXY which makes Attribute change run for Master Data 0SPELLING ?
Now there is Aggregate TRT which includes :
0SPELLING , Fiscal Period , Purchase Product, Purchase Category ?
Now pls answer following question ?
    1) Does the Process Chain XXY which makes only attribute change run alignment for 0SPELLING , Will this process chain automatically do the Change run alignment for 0SPELLING in Aggregate TRT ? YES or NO
    2) If Yes, then we are just suppose to do Roll up for Aggregate TRT after Process chian XXY completes and finish job ?
    3) If No, then what steps are suppose to be DONE so as to make sure that Aggregate TRT has new values and perfect values for 0SPELLING ?
Please answer and coorect if i have any wrong question....

    for e.g.
u have 0spelling whicha has attributes x,y and z on day 1 with 10 records
so do ur aggregates on day1 with same values
now on day2 u had new values of attributes y,z,s,d and new hierarchies and so u add new records
with data load u will load the data with version M of modified and is not available for reporting
If u do attribute change run then this modified version is activated to A i.e. active version .
It will also do the change run alignment for Aggregate for new attribute values and new hierarchy values for aggregate.
now in order for this data to be available for reporting u will need to do the roll up of aggregate.....
if u roll up aggregate before attribute change run , new data is not avaialable for reporting
if u roll up aggregate after attribute change run, then data is available for reporting
if u dont roll up aggregate eventhough new data is in dataprovider, still new data will not be available for reporting.

  • Attribute Change Run and Editing BI data

    Hello Experts,
I have two questions.(They are not related to each other).
Can BI data(Infocube data) be edited?
For eg GL account in R/3 is changed from 100 to 2100. I want to know how can this be handled in BI.
Attribute Change Run in the process chain ends with error.
"Master data characteristic ZACCTNUM activated in 6 seconds. Error while activating characteristic   ZACCTNUM ". There are no more information.
The BWREMOTE user has the authorisation to Execute Change Run.
What could be the possible reasons for this failure.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Meenakshi

    Hi Meenakshi,
    Regarding your questons:
    1. You can't edit the data directly in the cube. If you have incorrect data in the cube and the data is still in the PSA you can edit the incorrect data in the PSA and you can then delete the incorrect requests from the cube. You can then reload the correct data from the PSA. If its not an option to delete individual requests you could delete the incorrect data using the selective deletion option (if you can select on the incorrect data in the cube). You could then reload the correct data from PSA or source system.
    2. Please check the infoobject ZACCTNUM is active in RSD1. If it is there may be an inconsistency with the data in the infoobject ZACCTNUM, please check if the solution part of the SAP note 1033721 can help you in this case.
    Best Regards,

  • How does attribute change run works for Aggregates and Master data?

  • Attribute change run problem

    Hello Gurus,
I have deleted all the master data tables(P,S,X,T). Deleted the PSA table entries too.  I am loading data frm R/3.
No data exists in 0VENDOR ,when i click manage master data.
When the moment I load data in 0VENDOR_ATTR, without doing Attribute change run(ACR), the data is getting displayed in Maintain master data.
Please let me know why this happens.
    Thanks,
    Sonu

    Hi
According to my understanding of your issue, there is no master data in 0VENDOR, i.e., all the Dimension tables along with SID's are deleted.
But SIDs of the 0VENDOR_ATTR(whcih is the attr of 0VENDOR and also acts as characteristic) exists.
Sow hen you load data the master data is written into 0VENDOR and hence teh SID's of the attr are not deleted do teh master data will exists for 0VENDOR_ATTR.
Please let me know incase i got your question wrong.

  • Attribute Change Run in Process Chain Texts?

    Dear Colleagues!
A simlple question: Do you have an Attributes change run in the end of a Process Chain only containing text? (Master Data text) Or i s it sufficient to have it after attributes?

    Hi,
Attribute chage run is meant only for Attr/Hierarchies.
No need to include it for texts.
For the texts changes were automatically reflected with out change run.

  • Attribute Change Run for Hierarchy

    Dear experts:
we are trying to create a process chain for a hierarchy. When we included "Execute InfoPackage" into process chain, it automatically dragged other 2 steps into process chain as well, which are "Save Hierarchy" and "Attribute Change Run".
My Question is when we looked into "Attribute Change Run", the obj type is "Execute InfoPackage" instead of "Hierarchy". Shouldn't we choose hierarchy as object type when operating Attr change run??
Besides, I checked SAP document. It is said the "Attr Change Run" is only necessary when the hierarchy occurs in aggregates. Can anyone please explain to me what that means.
    Thank you very much
    Regards
    SzuFen

Haven't really looked at the object types in the process chain (we're still using event chains here for the most part), but I would be inclined to leave it as, and only change it if you have a problem.
The process chain tool drags steps into the chain by default, e.g drop and build index, attr change run.  That doesn't mean you have to keep them in the chain.  If you do not have hierarchies in your aggregates, you could remove the step.  Now of course, the burden falls on you to remember to add it if you ever create an aggregate with a hierarchy in it.
Of course the next would be, if most of your queries use a hierarchy, you would probably want the hierarchy in the aggregate, otherwise the aggregate isn't going to be used.
