CRM is unicode R/3 is non-unicode

We are about to install a new CRM 4.0 system based on WAS 6.40 and choose the unicode option. This system will be talking to an R/3 system which is enterprise and is non-unicode. CRM will be accessed via a portal. We will be installing about 18 languages in the CRM system, including Bulgarian, Czech, Slovene, and polish and most West European languages.
The question is what will happen to data which is generated in CRM in one of these languages and transferred into R/3?
Will character substitution occur?
What will happen if this data is updated in R/3 and copied back to CRM? Will it contain the substitutions?

Hello Paul,
we are running our CRM 4.0 with Unicode against a non Unicode R/3 system productive since April 2005. But we only use German on the Portal which is used for the User Interface. Our R/3 is a MDMP system with support for the slowenic charset. But we've filtered the transfer of Buisiness Partner Data by the Sales Org. So no Data with the other Codepage is transfered to our CRM System.
I would advise you to avoid complicated codepage translations in the middleware to upgrade your R/3 to 4.70 with Unicode. Otherwise shure get problems.

Gregor

  • CRM IDES Exports data into existing Non IDES System?

    Hello,
Is it possible to import SAP CRM IDES data using IDES Exports into any existing non IDES SAP CRM System without re-installation? The thing is that we already have some data in two clients (client 100 and 200) and we don't want to loose it and recently we have received IDES DVD's and would like to have this data as well. So, is there any way to get this IDES data without re-installation?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vasu

    No.
An installation doesn´t know anything about "clients", sapinst deletes the database if it exists and then loads the data from the export DVDs.

  • CRM2007 unicode system display broken charactor downloaded non-unicode R/3.

    Hi all
CRM2007 is only unicode system and R/3 is 620 non_unicode system.
CRM2007 unicode system display broken charactor downloaded data from non-unicode R/3.
    how can I do??
    any help
    thanks

    Lee,
Technically it is not supported.  You could change a few middleware settings to transmit the bdocs as XML to prevent issues, but really if your CRM is unicode then ERP needs to be unicode and vice-versa.
Only exception is that generally the english code-page non-unicode works okay with unicode english.
You can adjust CRMRFCPAR for the bdoc to transmit in xml vs native.
    Take care,
    Stephen

  • Performance Problems after migration to unicode

    Hello,
we have migrated our crm40sp6/msa-system to unicode. But now system is very slow, and the greater problem is that when we replicate via modem and conntrans I often get connection error while receiving data. And when I receive some data, the mas-client is very slowly to import the data. I often do not get all data so that I have to replicate repeatedly.
Before unicode I didn't have this problems.
Does anyone have the same experince with crm/msa-unicode ?
    Best reagards
    Gerd

    Hi Gerd,
You have mentioned that the system is migrated to CRM 4.0 unicode. What do you mean by unicode. Are u able to see in the MAS client several languages in the same screen in CRM 4.0.
I heard that CRM 4.0 is a unicode system but I don't think still you could see different languages in the same screen. For eg display japanese, chinese and english in the same screen.
For your information search on OSS notes you will get a note for Unicode which needs to be applied. Also in general the unicode solution is comparitevly slow when data is transfered from Middleware to mobile client via conntrans as the data is transfered in the XML format which contains more information than the regualar RFC format.

    Hello Prajith,
The SAP CRM system with the CRM Middleware and CRM Applications forms the core of CRM System Landscape. The CRM Server can run as a stand-alone solution or with various back-end systems. If SAP ECC is the backend system, only a plug-in(PI_BASIS) is needed to handle the data exchange with the SAP CRM Server.
CRM Server can be connected to non R/3 Back-end through SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol ),  XML, ASCII adapter, BW system, SAP R/3 Back-end through the R/3 adapter.
Other systems may be other ERP systems on non-SAP vendors. While many systems are linked to a CRM Server, they may not always use CRM Middleware functionality. The BW e.g. extracts data from a CRM Server u201Cpassingu201D this data u201Cbyu201D the CRM Middleware, which means it does not use BDocu2019s. The APO System is accessed via qRFC and BAPI calls from a CRM Server, also without the help of CRM Middleware.
    Hope that helps.

For CRM Functional Consultant interaction of the CRM system with other SAP and Non-SAP system is a major issue. The consultant takes care of all the details and suggests the possible Integration Technology with the help of a technical consultant. This depends on the CRM scenario as what data ( master, customizing, transaction) you want to transfer to the system.
All these basically falls under the different integration technologies.

  • CRM unicode and ECC 6.0 Non unicode.

    Hi All,
We have upgraded our system from 4.6C to ECC 6.0
Our ECC 6.0 is non unicode system. We are currently implementing CRM 5.0.
I want to know if we implement unicode CRM system, will there be any inconsistency as our ECC 6.0 is non unicode.
    Regards,
    Imran

    Hi Imran:
I had a problem with middleware when going through a similar scenario to yours. The middleware functions were returning garbage when calling from CRM to ERP systems. See note 651497 which addresses this problem.
I implemented the fix by adding the following line to the beginning of function module BAPI_CRM_SAVE:
    call function 'Z_MW_RFC_PING'.
Create a function group containing function module Z_MW_RFC_PING (code below):
    FUNCTION Z_MW_RFC_PING .
    *"*"Local Interface:
    data:
      lv_rfcdest type rfcdest.
    * Read middleware parameter table to determine R/3 backend system
    * name.
      select single parval1
        into (lv_rfcdest)
        from smofparsfa
        where parsfakey eq 'CRMCFSOLTP' and
              parname eq 'CRMCFSOLTP'.
    * If we get an RFC destination returned, PING it.
      if sy-subrc eq 0.
        call function 'RFC_PING'
          destination lv_rfcdest.
      endif.
    ENDFUNCTION.
Note 777994 addresses some configuration on CRM system. In transaction R3AC6 on CRM system, make the following entries:
    Key SMOF, parameter CODEPAGE_CHECK_OFF, value 'X';
    Key R3A_COMMON, parameter CRM_SEND_XML, value 'X';
Key R3A_COMMON, parameter DATA_FORMAT, value 'XML'.
You should also do the following configuration:
In table CRMPAROLTP on ERP system set parameter CRM_SEND_XML_FOR_DEFAULT_DESTINATION, user CRM, value 'X'.
In table CRMRFCPAR on ERP system set the "Use XML" flag to 'X' for the CRM consumer. This also avoids code-page issues.
The above took care of conflicts in code-pages for my systems.
    Regards,
    D.

  • PREPARE for Java complains of wrong OS though it is correct for ABAP

    Hello Team
I am in the process of upgrading our CRM 5.0 Unicode (Dual Stack -
ABAPJAVA) systems to CRM 2007 Unicode (Dual Stack - ABAPJAVA) system
on a LINUX X84_64 Operating System env.
I am having issues when I start the JPREPARE from the SAP CRM 2007
Upgrade Master DVD on Linux_X86_64 (51033255_19) for the first time as
mentioned in the CRM 2007 Java Upgrade guide. It complains of SAPCAR
file missing and it says OS Linux not supported by this CD.
This is the command I am using - JPREPARE <upgrade directory> from
    the Upgrade Master mount point
This is the exact error message I get:- ERROR: Missing
    file /sapcd/CRM60_Upg/51033255_19/LINUX_X86_64/SAPCAR. Operating system
Linux not supported by this CD.
where /sapcd/CRM60_Upg/51033255_19/ is the mount point for the SAP CRM
    2007 Upgrade Master DVD on Linux_X86_64 (51033255_19)
The upgrade directory is created correctly with
755 permissions and owned by <sid>adm
All it does is it creates a empty exe directory in the upgrade
directory and throws the above mentioned error.
Where as I was able to launch the PREPARE for ABAP succesfully from the
same CRM 2007 Upgrade Master DVD on Linux_X86_64 (51033255_19)
I am in the middle of the PREPARE phase for ABAP and it wanted me to
start the JAVA Prepare phase. I am surprised by this as it did not
throw an error when I started the PREPARE phase for ABAP.
I am stuck with this error and unable to move forward. Can you please
let me know how do I proceed.
Has anyone faced this problem before or am I doing anything wrong here?
    Thank you!

I was able to get over this by using the DVD - SAP CRM 2007 Java Upgrade for all OS -(51033255_25) upgrade Master DVD.

    Hi Krishna ,
I think you should highlight the portal role in presentation
Now a days all organizations using sap portal as their user interface. We can login portal once and we can get all the information from bw,crm...sap systems and non sap systems.
so no need to login each and every system individually.
The portal offers a single point of access to SAP and non-SAP information sources, enterprise applications, information repositories, databases and services in and outside your organization—all integrated into a single user experience. It provides you the tools to manage this knowledge, to analyze and interrelate it, and to share and collaborate on the basis of it.
With its role-based content, and personalization features, the portal enables users—from employees and customers to partners and suppliers—to focus exclusively on data relevant to daily decision-making processes

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me why we need a BDoc in CRM. As we already have an IDoc concept which is similar to BDoc. Why can't we use the same the IDoc to exchange data with CRM.

    Hi kumar,
Bdoc concept is the technology used in CRM Middleware where as Idocs used in ALE and EDI. Middleware is used for data exchange with in CRM system and between CRM and any other sap or non-sap system.
Please also look into the following sap help link which gives the differences between BDoc and IDoc messages
