Cron scripts run times
I thought the cron scripts were supposed to run at 3:00 A.M. However, when I checked my daily, weekly, and monthly out files just now (6 Jun) I found the following modified times in Get Info: Daily, 5 Jun @ 8:03 P.M. PDT; Weekly, 1 Jun 11:16 A.M. PDT; Monthly, 4 Jun 6:56 P.M. PDT
So, do this scripts now run when the computer is awakened from sleep, if the "scheduled time" has passed?
romad wrote:
So this is just a Tiger thing? On my G3 Imac running Panther, the times are still fixed at 3:00 A.M.?
Right, though I think it's 3:15 AM for the daily scripts. Maybe 4:30 AM Saturday for the weekly ones, and 5:30 AM on the 1st of the month for the monthly ones.
But yes, with Panther, they'll run at the times when they're scheduled. If the computer is off or asleep, then they won't run at all.
On Tiger, if the computer is off when they should have run, they won't run later, but if the computer is asleep, they'll run at a later time. They don't run as soon as the computer wakes up, but at a later time, taking into account how long the computer has been asleep.
So, on my laptop, the daily job runs every second or third day. The weekly runs about once a month or so. And the monthly hardly ever runs unless I just force it in the Terminal.

Algebra CD keeps displaying "Script run-time error" when I try to open it
I have a CD that came with my Algebra book (I bought it used) for Technical School and it keeps displaying Scrip run-time error when I try to open it. I have updated Quick-time player, just in case that was the problem.

Is CoreGraphics.dll cited in the iTunes events?
Also check for error events happening a few seconds prior to the iTunes events. Open those events. Do they all cite the same .ttf file? If so, what's the precise spelling of the .ttf (font) file?
YES! There is a CoreGraphics.dll cited in the iTunes event. This is what exactly the window said
"Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 9.0.3.15, faulting module CoreGraphics.dll, version 1.0.60.0, fault address 0x00266560."
For the .ttf file, this is what it showed.
"Windows cannot access the file C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\ARIALUNI.TTF for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program ARIALUNI.TTF because of this error.
Program: ARIALUNI.TTF
File: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\ARIALUNI.TTF"
I hope this will help. I still cant open iTunes. -

Run exec on cron script carefully
i would like to change permissions of a file after rsync backups a file in my cron script, i was going to append an exec command to this command line, but i would like to know how to do it carefully so im not blowing up any other files.
rsync -a --delete /home/backup/sqldumps /mnt/smb/backup/ &> /dev/null
i was considering something like
rsync -a --delete /home/backup/sqldumps /mnt/smb/backup/ &> /dev/null && -exec chmod 550 {} \;
but i was fearing that it might exec on the entire root, and or not run at the right time on the right file.
im having a hard time finding documentation on the latter portion of the exec command to know what the {} and \; does again. i forget..... im assuming that part may not be needed and causes recursion.
im going about it a bit lazy as well, and to keep the overhead lower, otherwise i would just run the rsync command first, then on the 2nd line do a find exec for a matching file for some criteria.
can anyone shed some light on this?

There is no `-exec` command. There is an -exec option to the `find` command, but you are not running find. Unless the current man page is out of date, rsync has no -exec option like that.
Further, if you put it after the && you would not be passing an -exec option to rsync. Instead you'd be trying to run /usr/bin/-exec, or an -exec somewhere else in your path.
The '{}' and \; are documented in the find man page as (again) they are specific to the syntax for find's -exec flag. They are not a separate command or shell option. -
How to load the object library at run time from within the script.
What i am trying to do from my library is that I wanted to load the object library file (.properties) file at run time through the script. I know that open script has a deprecated method "ft.loadObjectLibrary". Is there any other method other than the deprecated one?. Also is there a way that I can unload the library?
Thanks,
SriObject.border.fill.color.value = "255,255,255";
if you want to use rawValue of textfields to insert in there you will have to do
Object.border.fill.color.value = R.rawValue + "," + G.rawValue + "," + B.rawValue -
JS CS3: Help to reduce running time of my script
Hi
We have developed a script to find similiar words/characters at the end/start of 3 or more continous lines. The script has been developed by following steps:
1. Get all lines of the document;
2. Get first 2 characters of first line and compare with next two lines' first 2 characters.
3. If matches, then give a no break before the word to flow.
The same procedure for find end characters of the lines.
As our documents has more than 300 pages, the script runs too long time (about 15 minutes) per document.
Could any suggest to reduce the time of script running?
My basic sript is:
for (k=0; k<myStory.paragraphs.item(i).lines.length; k++) {
var myParaText = myStory.paragraphs.item(i);
var myChar2Fa = myParaText.lines[k].characters.itemByRange(0,1).texts[0].contents;
var myChar2Fb = myParaText.lines[k+1].characters.itemByRange(0,1).texts[0].contents;
var myChar2Fc = myParaText.lines[k+2].characters.itemByRange(0,1).texts[0].contents;
if (myChar2Fa== myChar2Fb && myChar2Fa== myChar2Fc) {
myParaText.lines[k+2].characters[-1].noBreak=true;
Kindly suggest.
regards
MasthanEvery interaction with the Object model costs -- in this case, asking ID for paragraphs.item(i).line, itemByrange(), etc. Avoid this by storing as much as possible direct references into variables.
Every interaction with the document text itself also costs -- you will see the script runs much faster if you only count the number of occurrences. (But this cannot be avoided.)
That said, your way of retrieving the first 2 characters per line is rather clumsy ... My version still takes the odd minute or so, for a 300 page test document, but I think it's mainly because ID has to re-flow each paragraph it changes.
myStory = app.selection[0].parentStory;
ln = myStory.lines;
n_ln = ln.length;
for (i=0; i<n_ln-2; i++)
if (ln[i].length > 1 &&
ln[i].contents.substring(0,2) == ln[i+1].contents.substring(0,2) &&
ln[i].contents.substring(0,2) == ln[i+2].contents.substring(0,2))
ln[i+2].characters[-1].noBreak=true;
I'm not convinced this does what you intend: avoiding three consecutive lines to start with the same two characters. First of all, to be sure you'd need to run it again, since reflowing the text may move another word to the front of the line with those same characters.
Second: the [-1] is a special index in InDesign. It does not point to the item before the current (as it would if -1 was treated the same as 0, 1, and 100), but instead it counts backwards from the end of the indexed item -- in this case, the No Break is applied to the last character of the 3rd line. I bet you wanted to apply it to the last character of the 2nd line (which, if so, is easy fixed). -
Is it possible to run a script each time a .CSV file is updated?
I am having trouble with a script I am trying to write, which is made up of two parts:
A .CSV file generated by PHP/MySQL whenever an RSS feed is updated. The contents of the .CSV are overwritten each time the PHP runs.
A DataMerge script, written in JavaScript.
What I would like to do is run the DataMerge script each time the .CSV file is updated. Is this possible, perhaps using an Event Listener within the PHP to trigger the DataMerge script? Or am I approaching this in the wrong way? I'm grateful for any thoughts you might have. Thanks, F.H.I would use Rorohiko's APID ToolKit: http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/active-page-item-developer/
It has fileChanged event that is sent after the observed external file has changed.
sorry guys for "labouring the point", but I'm working on very advanced project - and I need to know what my tool can or can't do
and in this case - using APID will break point 2.3 of EULA, right ? interaction with external datasource - without user action ?

I would like to set up an apple script where I can run all cron scripts as well as repair disk permissions at startup.
The actual code needed for the script is:
do shell script "periodic daily weekly monthly" password "yourpass" with administrator privileges
do shell script "diskutil repairPermissions /" password "yourpass" with administrator privileges
Copy and paste the code into the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, provide your administrator password where the blue text is in this post, save it as an application, and add it to the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences. If you don't want to store your password in the script:
display dialog "Your password is required." default answer "" buttons {"Cancel","OK"} default button "OK"
set the_pass to the text returned of the result
do shell script "periodic daily weekly monthly" password the_pass with administrator privileges
do shell script "diskutil repairPermissions /" password the_pass with administrator privileges

Have a bash script run every time an application is opened.
Hi,
On my Arch box I would like to have a bash script run every time a certain application is opened from the menu. I would prefer a delay of a 5 - 10 seconds after the program opens if that is possible. Could someone please let me know if and how I can achieve this?Problem is, OP wants the "meat" of his script to run after the program, which would mean putting it after the exec. But AFAIK, anything after the exec will be ignored. You could call another script to run in the background before the exec, but that seems hackish.

Running Ecatt script multiple times
I have created a ecatt script for ME21N. I need the script to run multiple times.So,i have used Do Enddo statement and put the number of times to be executed.
The script is running fine for the first time. then its not running. From the second time,its putting blank values into the fields and not saving the data.
How can i run the script multiple times.
Thanks,
Aparna.Hello,
When you run the script multiple time then you will have to pass different values to the fields so that every time the script is run with new set of values and the data is created.
So in the script you will have to parameterize the fields and then handle the position of the fields so that when the script is run for the first loop counter the data is maintained in the first line of the transaction(for example) and the increament the counter for the second run so that the control moves to the second line for the second execution similarly for the multiple runs.
Alternatively parameterize the fields with the table containing so many entries as the number of times you want to run the script and for each execution one set of entry from the table is picked and used in the execution for the next run the second set of values is used and so and so forth.
Hope it answers your question.
Thanks and Best regards,

Script runs not corrextly for first time
Hello,
i have kind a strange problem.
Always wenn i run my script first time (after opening Diadem), it works not corretly. Specificly creating a report goes wrong.
When i start the script for second time (and each additional time) everything works fine and correctly?!
For understand:
- I do some (mathemtical) analyse - always works correctly
- Load/Append prepared ReportLayout, add curves, create text objects - doesn't work for the first time, then it alwas works correctly
The mistake is, that all curves (that should be in several appended layouts and text objects) are added in the first loaded report sheet (though the reportsheets were appended)
As i said, when i start the script second time (and each additional time) everything works fine as it should?!
Thanks
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hello,
yes i tryed with debugger step by step. No errors. Ironically with debugger step by step everything works fine (even for he first time)
It looks like, when i run the script for the first time, the appended report sheets are not active, because all curves are added in the first report sheet.
But why works it wrong only for the first time and then everything works fine?
Thanks -
I can still load it with the script running or attempting to run in the background but it makes firefox tremendously slow. After I click on stop running the script then everything seems to be ok.
how do I get the script not to run in the first place.In Firefox the use of the term chrome refers to the user interface and other elements that are not part of the web pages.

Looks like it's in response to an activation request, and we're trying to get a list of the active windows - but the OS can't parse the values it just returned without error. Nice.
All I can do is try to add some safety around those calls in the next version of Photoshop.
If we can get a reproduceable case, then we can write up a bug for Apple. -
"no data found" run-time error masking SQL/report mismatch
Hi all,
At last, figured out a vexing problem and wondering if anyone else either:
a) has also hit the problem, and hopefully
b) has figured out a clever way around it.
Namely, in our AppEx apps, we rely on SQL query generation from PL/SQL packaged functions. This "best practice" promotes reuse, automated testing, etc. Great idea - works great.
However, we've repeatedly come across a situation where we go to run a page with a report on it only to get a "report error: ORA-01403: no data found" message where the report should be. Not much to go on. After trial and error, it turns out that simply going to the Region Definition page (where the PL/SQL function call is defined) and clicking the "Apply Changes" button cleared the problem up.
Mystifying because the actual SQL query generated by the PL/SQL is valid (we've got a nightly testing job that pulls the PL/SQL function calls out of the AppEx metadata tables, executes them to get back the SQL and then validates the SQL).
Turns out this problem looks to be a result of columns changing in the actual SQL itself, and hence not matching up to the Region Attributes (column names, one assumes) that AppEx knows about. Simply clicking Apply Changes causes AppEx to validate the returned query and then it adjusts the column attributes (one assumes) so that things match up.
So - the $64,000 question(s):
1) Are there any cool AppEx APIs to be able to try and detect this situation? Given an app of middling complexity (50-100 pages, each with various queries/reports), this is not an attractive issue to deal with manually.
2) Any cool AppEx APIs to fix, or auto-sync these situations? (Essentially programmatically calling the "Apply Changes" button if you will).
At a minimum, it would be great if AppEx could be updated to put out some kind of more informative error message when this occurs - maybe something along the lines of "Region Attributes Do Not Match Data Returned from Query", or something like that at least.
Thanks for any input/ideas,
Jim C.Thanks to all for your prompt responses.
Vikas actually did me the favor of pretty much clarifying my info for me (tks Vikas). Yes, to all the above. It's PL/SQL code generating a SQL query, so 1 is (a); we want to use query-specific columns so it is (2a). And yes, the whole problem is that the something does change to cause the SELECT statement column list to change...nature of the beast, so "don't do that" doesn't really help here.
Scott - sorry, should have been more explicit. Basically, we have a PL/SQL function behind a report that returns a SQL statement for the report. If that PL/SQL code changes to add a new column to the report (without going to the corresponding Report Attributes page and clicking the "Apply Changes" button to get AppEx to revalidate the query), then you wind up with this "no data found" error msg, which doesn't exactly point you to the root of the problem.
It seems as though the "parse at compile-time" is really what's going on here. There must be some kind of "run-time" check going on as well, that is resulting in the "no data found" message. Seems as though it ought to be fairly straightforward to add some kind of check at run-time to handle that exception a little cleaner. Is there an official process to register a "Request for Process Enhancement" for AppEx to do this?
In the meantime, thank you Vikas for the pointer to the APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_RPT_COLS view - that looks like it will do the trick nicely. Given that, we can now add logic to our nightly "app tester" job that can compare what columns AppEx expects to find in a given report (for a given page) with the actual SQL (coming back from the PL/SQL function call) to essentially "validate" the AppEx meta data and at least let us know when these things get out of sync.
BTW - if anyone would be interested in the actual contents of that "app tester" logic, I'd be happy to post it (someplace...here? Studio site?). It's basically just a PL/SQL block of code that currently runs in cron that just validates any SQL embedded in our app. (I suppose it is a little "hard-coded" since it does use our naming conventions for packages/functions to parse the PL/SQL calls from the Meta Data but it might still serve as a usefull starting point...) Since our AppEx app(s) sit on top of a database schema that is in fairly constant flux, we need the ability to know when somebody has changed something in the schema that needs to be accounted for in AppEx. The job primarily just parses the AppEx meta data to find PL/SQL function calls that return SQL, executes that PL/SQL to get the generated SQL, then just validates that SQL and reports back any invalid SQL calls. Perhaps we're in some unusual development environment (15-20 people working on a database schema with 700-800 tables/views) but it seems as though it would be fairly easy, for anybody using PL/SQL to generate SQL (which is a GREAT and powerful thing, by the way - thanks to whoever thought that up in AppEx land) to run into this issue.

Firefox freezes due to a script running. how can I stop it or fix it
I keep having a script run when I am playing Face Book games Especially Battle Pirates and it freezes everything. What can i do to stop it? Or fix it so it dosen't freeze my game?
This script runs over and over while I am playing Battle Pirates. Every time it runs it freezes the darn game and I have to click and click on the screen before a box pops up with a long string and asks if I want to stop the string. This is what it says:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."
" Script:http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/...tS5XVSwP/ks:42 "
What is this and dose it need to run or is it a hacker messing with me and my FF browser ?
When I'm in the middle of a battle screen and it freezes it messes me up. If I am in full screen when it freezes it throws me to another open Browser tab or out of full screen if i don't have another open.
What is this? Something to do with FaceBook? A Hacker ? A BP game glitch. please help. This is driving me crazy. Imagine being in the middle of the best part of a BP battle and freeze.... then click click click i go and zoom to another open window away from the battle so i no longer have a view of the fight let alone control it or boom to non full screen and 1/2 the screen is obscured.
It just happened again while I was typing this request for help. I have a window open with BP also and it took me there. HELPHi knighterrant56,
