Crop in a droplet

I set my actions and created a droplet. What i don't know how to do is have crop still be active. What i would like to do (someone else created one for me in the past but it doesn't work anymore) is be able to put my photos into the droplet and then when the photos open in adobe photoshop be able to adjust the crop box and then click on the green check mark when done. Have that photo be saved and gone, then the next photo show up and i can then do the same to that.

Droplets are normally used to Batch process imageo or a single image without user intervention. Does not make much sense to create a droplet  from an interactive action.  Interactive Batch why.   You can easily record interactive cropping actions.  Using the Crop tool or a rectangle selection the with an interactive transform selection step.  The trick is the record a free transform the rotate the selection 180 degrees then make that step interactive. If you make a mistake transforming the selection you can use the ESC key to cancel the transform which stops the action in that step. Pressing the Play button after the canceled transform restarts the action in the interactive transform step and give you an other  try at transforming the recorded selection correctly.  I normally set the selection by recording a centered  AspectRatioSelect using my AspectRatioSelection Plug-in. That is part of my Crafting Actions Package.

  • Need help with actions and droplets

    I've created an action, but it won't OPEN a file, I have to open the file manually, then start the action.  I need this action to work in a droplet for over 300 images, so it would REALLY be nice if I could automate the entire process.  My action is:
    OPEN - 324 PSD files
    CROP - to specific demensions, resolution
    EXPORT - Save for web as a jpeg
    CLOSE - close this file and loop to the next
    John

    Thx, but still could not get the droplet to work, so I just went through the
    action for all 324 images one by one.  Surprisingly, it didn't take that
    long.  Thanks a bunch for the reply!!!

  • Droplet created in 3.0 running now in 3.5 doesn't submit to Batch Monitor?

    I've got a droplet I created in FCS2 (Compressor 3?).
    I upgraded to FCS3 and tried to use my droplet.
    I get a window with 'Server: This computer - submitting 1 files'
    But in the Batch Monitor I never see anything appear under 'This Computer'.
    It's just a simple droplet to take a ProRes 422 HQ captured from an HV20 in their 24p in 60i format - that strips out the extra garbage and reverse telecines.
    1st time I've tried to use it with Compressor 3.5.
    How can I debug this?

    I found the original droplet in my Compressor settings list, and created a new droplet from 3.5.
    This time, when I dropped a file on it, it worked.
    But - in case I need to convert a droplet from 3.0 to 3.5 (that doesn't exist in Compressor settings), is there a way?

  • Crop in action problem

    Can someone help a newb please.
    I've created a droplet to take an image, crop it (after letting me select the crop location) to a square 800 x 800px, increase canvas size by 7% to give me a nice white border, and then save the file.
    It works perfectly if I stick with the landscape images that I set it up with. However as soon as I use a portrait picture, (I've tried several and checked that I am using images more than 800 x 800 in size), the crop guidelines show up as a patently portrait shape, but when I hit enter after positioning the guidelines, I get a square 800 x 800 image with the contents distorted to fit.
    The Perspective option on crop was NOT set, and I tried creating another action using a portrait image to set it up. It then works fine with portrait images, but distorts a landscape one.
    I'm guessing that I'm missing something obvious, but I can't see what. I did try a search of the forum but couldn't see any obvious solutions. Or is what I want to do just not possible?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

    I tried re-sizing from within the action. I can increase the size, but the shift key has no effect. I tried doing the same thing outside the action and it worked as expected. (the crop lines were dotted inciodentally)
    I re-booted (The PC was re-built from a clean HD only 7 days ago so it should be in good nick). I restarted Photoshop deleting the prefs file. Checked for Updates (The prog tells mwme I'm on CS3  Extended 10.0.1.   Adobe updater tells me there are no new updates.
    Tried the action again, still same issue

  • Crop & Straighten tool missing from Automate menu

    I'm using CS3, Extended
    The Crop & Straighten tool doesn't show up under the Automate menu.
    I've gone to Edit > Menus > Automate and it doesn't show up there either.
    I have quite a large amount of multiple scans that need to be cropped and separated.
    I never had this problem with CS2.
    The following are listed under the Automate menu:
    Batch
    PDF Create
    Create Droplet
    Pro Canvas (twice)
    Photo Tools Batch
    Photo Tools
    Conditional Mode Change
    Fit Image
    Merge to HDR
    Photo Merge
    I've tried opting for the no-show in the Edit > Menus thinking that there may be too many selections, but that didn't help. Also, like I said, Crop and Straighten doesn't show up there at all.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Is it hidden behind the Slice tool?   Any tools with a little triangle in the bottom right corner, have move tools behind them.
    You could use the keyboard short cut 'c', but if the Crop tool is hidden, keep pressing Shift c until you see it.

    I figured there have to be some MP users with similar hardware familiar with CS 5.5.....
    Sounds like this is more likely to be a problem with your tablet or with Photoshop than with your Mac Pro.
    Agreed, though it could be an OpenGL issue between CS5 and the Geforce card.
    The 7300 GT is pretty "archaic" in relation to OpenGL and CS5.
    Make sure OpenGL Advanced Settings are set Basic mode.

  • Adobe droplet question, involving Place command and filenames

    Suppose I have two files called, (a) "background.tif" and (b) "Image001.tif".
    Background.tif is a simple black layer, sized to 1500 x 1000 px.  Image001.tif may be cropped to any size.
    I want to do the following in a droplet:
        1. Place (File/Place) "Image001.tif" in "background.tif", knowing it'll be centered and resized as needed automatically.
        2. Save the new file for the web as "Image001.jpg",
        3. close both files without saving (I only need the resulting JPG).
    My goal - I have several hundred files that all need web-ready JPGs created with a standard size black background, so that they'll fit a web gallery that can only handle a fixed set of dimensions.
    Questions:
    1. Is this even possible via automation?
    2. If so, how do I ensure that the JPG that gets created has the same name as the source image file; i.e. "image001.jpg", and then "image002.jpg", etc.?
    3. is there a better way to create the end result, rather than using the place command; i.e. doing this with the original image file instead (thus solving the filenaming question)?
    Running PS CS6 on Win7/64.
    Many thanks!
    Jerry

    Hi csuebele,
    The only requirement is that the final result is 1500 x 1000 px.  The black is used to fill in the sides/tops as necessary.  Since this is to be automated, I need each new file to have a unique name of course (otherwise succeeding files will overwrite their predecessor).
    For example, say I have a file called image001.tif that is cropped to 2400w x 3000h px. I need this to fit a container that's 1500 x 1000 px, with black filling this out.
    Manually I would
    1. Open a black TIFF that's already 1500x1000.
    2. Place the 2400x3000 px image in the black tiff.
    3.  PS then resizes and centers the image to fit, while preserving the aspect ratio.
    4. Thus the image is now sized to be 800w x 1000h px , with black filling the sides equally; i.e. 750 px of black on either side.
    5. I then save that "new" version of the black file for the web, and then close w/o saving.
    6. End result is a 1500x1000 file called image001.JPG.

  • Automating Photoshop's Crop & Straighten Tool

    Does anyone know of a way in which I can automate Photoshop's "Crop & Straighten" tool?
    I don't think this is as simple as simply creating an Action or a Droplet to perform this task, because running the "Crop & Straighten" tool on an image results in the creation of multiple new images, all of which need to be saved out at some point (either before running the tool again on a subsequent image; or before ending up with hundreds of new/unsaved images open at one time within Photoshop)...
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

    Ok, If you want to try the above method here is the script.
    Run it when you have the layers created.
    #target photoshop
    if(documents.length){
    var docPath = activeDocument.path;
    var docName = activeDocument.name.slice(0,-4);
    var Directory = decodeURI(docPath+'/Edited');
    if(activeDocument.artLayers.length >1) CreateDirectory(Directory);
    for(var a=0;a<activeDocument.artLayers.length;a++){
       activeDocument.activeLayer = activeDocument.artLayers[a];
       if(!activeDocument.activeLayer.isBackgroundLayer){
             dupLayer("#"+(a+1));
             activeDocument.trim(TrimType.TRANSPARENT);
             //comment/uncomment SaveJPEG or SaveTIFF
             //SaveJPEG(File(Directory+"/"+docName+activeDocument.name+".jpg"), 10);
             SaveTIFF(File(Directory+"/"+docName+activeDocument.name+".tif"));
             activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
             activeDocument = documents[0];
    activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    function dupLayer(newName) {

        desc111.putString( charIDToTypeID('Nm  '), newName );
            var ref53 = new ActionReference();
            ref53.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Lyr '), charIDToTypeID('Ordn'), charIDToTypeID('Trgt') );
        desc111.putReference( charIDToTypeID('Usng'), ref53 );
        executeAction( charIDToTypeID('Mk  '), desc111, DialogModes.NO );
    function SaveJPEG(saveFile, jpegQuality){
    jpgSaveOptions = new JPEGSaveOptions();
    jpgSaveOptions.embedColorProfile = true;
    jpgSaveOptions.formatOptions = FormatOptions.STANDARDBASELINE;
    jpgSaveOptions.matte = MatteType.NONE;
    jpgSaveOptions.quality = jpegQuality; //1-12

  • Width changed when droplet set to 100% of source

    I captured using firewire a source of HDV 1440 x 1080 24p in 60i from an HV20 into ProRes 422 HQ. The resulting file showed 1920 x 1080.
    I then used my droplet that I always use on HV20 HDMI 24p in 60i captures (not HDV, this skips the MPEG compression and gives true 1920 x 1080).
    For some reason, the resulting width from the droplet was 1440 x 1080 (even though the source file was 1920 x 1080 ProRes HQ.
    1. For HDV capture, as I'm 'reverse telecine'ing the clip anyway, do I lose any info if I capture it as HDV (is there a 1 to 1 byte transfer without transcoding) - and then transcode to ProRes HQ while 'reverse telecine'ing.
    2. Out of curiosity, why did it change the width back to 1440 when the source was 1920? I believe I recreate my droplet, and set it for fixed width of 1920 x 1080 - and this seemed to fix it.
    3. Should the pixel aspect ratio be 'default' or 'square'?
    4. Is there a way to open a droplet so that it can be edited?
    5. Here's my droplet setup (that messed up the width):
    File Extension: mov
    Estimated file size: unknown
    Audio: multi-track passthrough
    Video Encoder
    Format: QT
    Width: (100% of source)
    Height: (100% of source)
    Pixel aspect ratio: Default
    Crop: None
    Padding: None
    Frame rate: 23.976
    Frame Controls On:
    Retiming: (Fast) Nearest Frame
    Resize Filter: Linear Filter
    Deinterlace Filter: Reverse Telecine
    Adaptive Details: Off
    Antialias: 0
    Detail Level: 0
    Field Output: Progressive
    Codec Type: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    Multi-pass: Off, frame reorder: Off
    Progressive
    Chroma filtering enabled
    Pixel depth: 24
    Spatial quality: 50
    Min. Spatial quality: 0
    Temporal quality: 0
    Min. temporal quality: 0

    Sounds like we have a very similar setup (HV30, HDMI capture, etc.).
    What you are seeing is pretty typical, and I don't think it has anything to do with your droplet. I have been looking for a consistent solution to this issue myself.
    Note that none of this should matter inside Final Cut, since FC will properly recognize the aspect ratio of the footage and show it properly. I only find this a problem if I am going through raw footage using Front Row or something like that.
    When you capture via HDMI, the input is true 1920x1080 and your pixel aspect ratio is 1:1.
    When you capture via firewire, the input is HDV 1440x1080 and your pixel aspect ratio is 0.75:1. Your initial capture files are marked to be shown at 1920x1080, and if you play them in Quicktime, they will show stretched as they should be. These files are not actually 1920x1080--they are just shown that way.
    Once you do your 60i to 24p reverse telecine in Compressor, the resultant files no longer have the "tag" that tells Quicktime to show them at 1920x1080, and if you play them, they will be shown at a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio (1440x1080), which looks scrunched.
    Before Quicktime 7.1, the solution was to load the file in Quicktime Pro, go into Movie Properties (CMD-J), and change the Visual Settings on the video track so the Scaled Size was 1920x1080 and save.
    Recent changes to Quicktime have added a presentation aperture property which has made this even more complicated. Now you have to go into the Movie Properties, change the Presentation properties so that the "Conform aperture to:" is off, and then change the Scaled Size as above.
    I hope this helps

  • Crop jpegs with Applescript

    Hi can anyone please advise, I am wanting to crop jpgs using image handler and applescript.
    I am wanting to save (crop) only the right hand side off the original.
    I found the fllowing script came close but it crops to the centre not from the centre to the right can anyone advise?
    thanks.
    set this_file to choose file without invisibles
    set the vertical_crop to 0
    set the horizontal_crop to 0.50 -- 50%
    try
    tell application "Image Events"
    -- start the Image Events application
    launch
    -- open the image file
    set this_image to open this_file
    -- get dimensions of the image
    copy dimensions of this_image to {W, H}
    -- perform action
    crop this_image to dimensions {W - (W * horizontal_crop), H - (H * vertical_crop)}
    -- save the changes
    save this_image with icon
    -- purge the open image data
    close this_image
    end tell
    on error error_message
    display dialog error_message buttons {"Cancel"} default button 1
    end try

    Ok Guys I found a partial solution for anyone interested.
    As I stated in an earlier post I found Adobe Photoshop could do everything required such as scale,crop and save as jpeg etc.
    So I created a droplet from the action to perform this to my needs.
    I then installed Hazel <http://www.noodlesoft.com/hazel.php>
    This enabled me to watch a folder for files added, also creating a rule thats run the Photoshop droplet on items added to the watched folder.
    Everything processes just as I had hoped.
    The only downside is I need another license for Photoshop but the workflow works!
    I hope this update can help anyone else with a similar requirement.
    Many thanks again to Frank and particularly Neville for the help and advise offered without which I would have thrown my much loved MacBook out of the windows days ago!!

  • When i send a PDF via e-print, it gets cropped, is there a way to prevent this from happening?

    PDF's are printing fine when i print direct to the printer but when they are sent by e-mail they get cropped, is there a way to get the document to fit to page when sent as an email attachment?
    The Printer in question is a HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551n, the printer is brand new installed last week so i don't know if this is the norm or not.
    Edit: Please can someone please explain how to correct this.

    If you're using a desktop or notebook PC to send the email you could try installing the HP ePrint Mobile Driver software on your machine, the link to the download is here. This will allow you to print the PDF to any ePrint capable printer without having to email it to the printers email address as an attachment.
    Once installed and with your PDF open on your machine, select Print from the File menu, then select "ePrint" from the list of available printers (don't select the actual printer itself) and click Print in the bottom right corner of the box. A dialogue box will open showing the avaialble ePrint printers you can print to. Click on the Connected button on the left of the screen to add your printer to the list if its not listed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you automatically downsample images in Keynote without cropping?

    Hello All,
    I am trying to get Keynote to perform what I think is a pretty basic task, but can't figure out how to make it happen.  I am an art teacher and frequently show my students slide shows made from a large database of .jpgs I have amassed.  Most of the .jpgs were scanned at high resolutions - roughly 2500px on the long edge.  They are made at this size to anticipate improvements in projector resolution in the future.  The slideshows I make are at XGA (1024x768) because this is the native resolution of the school's projectors.
    I want to be able to drop large numbers of slides into a slideshow and have Keynote to automatically downsample them to fit on an XGA slide without cropping the image. I currently have "Reduce placed images to fit on slides" checked in the General Preferences.  This does downsample the images, but does so in a way that fills the slide with the image and crops on one dimension depending on the aspect ratio of the image.  So for example, with the two Kertesz images below, the top and bottom is cropped off the first one and the sides off of the second one.  Keynote scales it down so that the image fills the entire slide rather than scaling down so the entire image can fit on the slide.
    FIG 1a
    FIG 2a
    I can then go in and resize the image manually in the metrics tab of the inspector so that the full image is represented in each slide (Fig 1b and 2b below).  I have to type in the dimension that is being cropped (768 in Fig 1, 1024 in Fig 2).  This further downsamples the image fitting the entire image on the slide which is desired.  Doing this for each slide can be burdensome though if I am showing slideshows of 100 or so images.  My question is if there is a way to get the results below automatically.  I would like to drop multiple images into my slideshow and have it be downsampled so that the entire image fits on the slide.  Does anyone know how to make Keynote do this?  Thanks.

    In the layer of interest make sure the vector mask is selected. Then in the Masks panel adjust the feather slider to an amount that looks right.
