Crop marks for Center Cut in Title Safe?

I have recently picked up Premiere Pro 5.5 after the whole Final Cut Pro X fiasco, and a feature I loved and used all the time in Final Cut Pro 7 which was missing in Final Cut Pro X was crop marks for Center Cut in the title safe. I often have to do HD Projects that are broadcast on 4:3 TV center cut, so you need to make all the graphics for the center cut for SD, and then leave safe space for the HD version.
From what I can see I don't see these marks in Premiere Pro 5.5. Is there a place for feature requests for Premiere Pro, so I can put in a request as this is something that is really necessary in our production workflow.

Well, PrPro's Titler has the Center Align for both Vertical & Horizontal, but for guides, etc., it is lacking.
I use the tips in this ARTICLE to create alignment guides, as per my needs.
I have been filing Feature Requests for years, and have also asked for many of the element Alignment functions from PS.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - I also create custom guides/grids for PiP, where I need to match the Scale & Position for the PiP footage.
PPS - I assume that you have looked at Title & Action Safe marks, and they just do not do it for what you need.

You plan to use Photoshop to lay out an entire magazine? I'll say a prayer for you.

  • Where are crop marks for printing Acr. Pro 9

trying to print a document from InD4 after PDF'ing it and have it up on Acrobat.  I don't do this often but am at a loss-where do I find the check off boxes so I can send the file to the printer with the crop marks and the color block.
    Thanks for any quick reply

When you export a PDF from ID4 you will need to check the Marks and Bleeds. You can also define a preset for PDF Export to help expedite this task if you do it often.

  • Inserting Crop Marks for Publishing

My publisher has asked me to find out whether Aperture software is capable of inserting crop marks before saving the PDF file to send to the publisher.
Many thanks for help on this topic.
    W.

It cannot. However you could create a print workflow that does it using Automator.
Use the PDF:Add Watermark action and instead of using a watermark, use an image that has the crop marks. There is probaably third party software that can do this to PDFs *** well.

  • Test: Using Crop marks in indesign CS4 with Epson 3800 Mac 10.5.7

Crop marks using indesign CS4 with Epson 3800 Mac 10.5.7
My crop marks and pages are printing larger than my document sizes.  My paper size is 13x19, so I should have crop marks at the exact corners of the page sizes.  But indesign is printing the entire document larger.  So my document which is 11x14.75 is now printing 11.25x15.5.  All my settings are correct. So, is anyone else using an Epson 3800 with CS4 indesign having issues such as the above?  And can I ask (beg) a few of you to do a test print with crop marks and let me know the results?
My workflow has been completely stalled because I can't get my pages to print the right sizes with the crop marks at the right measurements.  I'm printing a photo portfolio on the Lumijet double sided paper and "when" it did work awhile back sometime several months ago, the finals looked great. I've already reinstalled both the Epson 3800 driver and the Indesign CS4 software, but the results are still the same.
    So, here are my settings:
    document size: 11x14.75
    in the print panel:
    Printer: Epson 3800
Setup: Paper size: Super A3/B13x19, scale 100% width & height, page position Centered
Marks & Bleed: Marks: "Crop Marks" checked. offset: 0, weight: .25, Bleed and Slug: Use Document bleed settings, include slug area.  The bleed is 0 for top, bottom, left and right
Color Management: Document profile: Adobe RGB, Options: Indesign handles colors, Printer Profile: (A custom made profile using Xrite for the 3800 with Lumijet paper)
The settings on the Epson 3800
    Epson 3800 Printer
Presets (set for the profile mentioned above)
    No Color management
Sometimes, on a whim, the printer and indesign cooperate together like good little children should. But not often.  And I can not conclude why they are nice to each other sometimes, but given the same detailed data at other times, they fight.
If anyone could run through a similar process using indesign with a photo layout and setting up the printer settings for both the Epson 3800 and in the indesign program and let me know their results, I would value your conclusions very much.  You don't even have to waste paper or ink.  Finally, after wasting so many pages of paper and of ink. I deleted the photos from the page, and printed it blank with only the crop marks for me to measure if it was coming out right or not.
Thank you for any response.  And feel free to call me if you want to vent about Epson 3800's or about Indesign CS4 anytime! I'm up late....  646 256 8853.

I specified the paper size as strictly 13x19, no boarderless, no retain size.  Same problem.   I also did as you suggested below.  The pdf document does remain true to the document.  As a pdf doc. I changed the color mgmt to Adobe rgb 1998.  It looks okay, but not as lively as I get when printing correctly with my color mgmt working and in sync.
Your final question about simply using photoshop.  Well... I might go back to it and give up on Indesign if this is the case that it won't simply crop my documents to the sizes that I input them to be cropped as.  But, I am using Indesign so that I can create a page layout that I can't do in Photoshop.  My folio is about 25 or more pages with double page spreads.  I am printing on a two-sided Lumijet paper and my folio was custom designed to be cut out at 11x14.75.  If and when it is printed correctly, I am printing on both sides of the paper and trimming it to exact size.
It sounds as if you have exhausted the potential problems and don't have a clear explanation for why the doc isn't printing correctly in Indesign either with the color mgmt. or the document sizes.  I'll try one more print using a different color profile similar enough to get at minimum, an okay print. If it doesn't print at least okay, then it isn't most likely my profile..... Okay done.  Crazy.  The color is inaccurate, but for some reason or another, the document size printed correctly. It measured exactly 11x14.75.  What I have done during this period of time is:
First) I did as you suggested and turned the Print to Adobe PDF 9 and created a print there. I measured it and it did measure correctly.  I didn't love the color, but... at least it is measuring correctly.
Second) I turned the Printer back to Epson 3800 (I'm beginning to think that this simple gesture was what caused the printer to print correctly)  I didn't change any settings, but I did make sure that they were set correctly as before. The paper size was set to 13x19.  When I make sure this setting is right in the "printer" dialogue for the Epson 3800, and then switch back to ID, the printer dialogue in Id changes to "Define by Printer."  But I changed nothing, other than the profile to an older one that I used before. The color is still inaccurate, but at least for two prints just now back to back, the measurements were correct.   What to do? Lol.
Thanks again for all of your time spent trying to resolve this issue.
    Sincerely,
    Thaddeus

  • Crop marks inaccurate in "placed" PDF file, ok in original ID file??

    Hi all,
I've created a file using InDesign (CS5) and exported it to PDF format, with crop marks (for proofing purposes).  I then "place" the PDF file(s) back into an InDesign document and align them as a master for printing/cutting.  However, the crop marks are ever so slightly off (maybe 1/32 of an inch or less?).  As the cutter cuts every 2 inches, this "off-ness" gets larger with each 2" piece cut down the page so the last object ends up being maybe 1/16 of an inch off.  The original InDesign file prints exactly on-mark.
Why is this and is there a way to fix it??
    Thanks!

Getting crop marks isn't the issue, as I can do that using a variety of methods, including what you describe.  In our case, the PDF is less work because we create individual PDFs of each object (business cards, in this case) to send out for proof and we'd rather use the handy built-in method of placing a PDF to a master of several cards instead of pasting or recreating each original on the master.
I guess I'm just wondering why a robust program designed for production printing such as this has an option for including crop marks in a PDF if the PDF isn't going to be accurate when placed back into a design file?  I was hoping I made an error in my set-up somehow, which is still possible I suppose.

  • Bleed / crop marks

    hello,
i need to set crop marks for a business card. i thought this would be easy! but it isn't.
i created a 1/8th of a inch bleed area. i finally figured out where the Save as PDF bleed/crop mark setting is, but it is asking me how many Pts i'd like to set the bleed. what are points? what is a point? how does this imaginary point translate into real life? how many inches is that? what should i do because the only thing i can think of is screaming which probably won't help

I wonder if the dialog was asking you the trim mark setting?  Because it is a stroke, it would be set in points.  I usually set mine @ .5 pts.  That's 1/2 of a point.  But if it is referencing the bleed at 1/8 of an inch, then 72 pts per inch divided by 8 = 9 pts.  I seldom see where bleed is indicated in points.  What's more, I just set my own trim marks and bleed areas manually.  I do this because I can set center marks, too.  Far less of a hassle.

  • How can I add to page size and add crop marks?

I have a 50 page pdf file, A4, RGB. There are no crop marks. I need to add 1/2" to each dimension on each page (centering the image, of course), add crop marks for A4 size, convert to CMYK, to make press ready. I'm having trouble with each aspect of this. When I expand the page size then try to crop to A4, Acrobat tells me that the crop marks may overlap the art and I should consider cropping. I click okay, get the crop window, and that doesn't seem to work either. I'd love to create an action to do this but I can't even perform any of the pieces of it!
I am working on a PC, running Windows 7, Acrobat XI Pro CC.
    Thanks,

  • Is there a way to insert printer's 'crop' marks in Page document?

Making a booklet. Printer needs crop marks and bleed. Is there some easy way to make a set of crop marks for a single page ... that can be easily translated through all the pages of the document?
    Ben

Can one set Pages to RGB \ CMYK? Where?
The page description models of Adobe PostScript, Apple QuickDraw Graphics Extension, and Adobe Portable Document Format are object oriented. Conceptually, there is no such thing as a global colourant model for object oriented page description models.
To control colour in an object oriented page description model that supports the intelligent separation model of the International Color Consortium, capture and correct images into a source CIELab or RGB colour space of your choice.
Place RGB objects in pagination properly tagged with their source ICC profiles and include the ICC profile for the intended printing condition as a PDF/X-3 OutputIntent using the ColorSync Utility export process (take care to revisit the export filter to see if the printing condition is correct).
This way all objects in the pagination are converted into the correct ink limit, gray balance, highlight soft clipping, shadow soft clipping and compression of colour contrasts for the lightness range and colour gamut of the printing condition.

  • Remove crop marks from AI CS2 doc?

    Hi,
I resized my document from a 8.5 x 11 to a 11 x 14 and then scaled the business card on it up 280% to fit in the new document size in Adobe Illustrator CS2. Everything is working fine except that my existing crop marks for the business card stayed the same size as the business card 3.5 x 2 so how do I remove these? I don't need them anymore.
I will be having this printed so do I need to insert print marks or anything like that?
    Thanks in advance,

It worked! Thanks so much ScottW. I have no idea what it did but it worked. Thanks again!

  • Can ID auto-add crop marks?

This is something I have always done manually and occured to me that maybe there is some way of it doing this automatically.  I know about the check box to automatically put crop marks on the 4 corners of the entire layout.  Is there a way to also put crop marks in between the corners?  Like if I was running multiple up of something that are equally spaced (lets say business cards) on an 8.5x11, can it put crop marks showing the cut between each card and not just on the corners of the entire layout?  It would just save a lot of time if it had this ability.  If not, Im definitely suggested it in a future version

Check the scripts panel. There's a script there that will do just that.

  • Greeting cards SRA3 "crop marks" problem.

    Hello all
Am using: InDesign CS2 v4.0.5 - PC Windows XP.
I am trying to set up layout and crop marks for four A5 greeting cards (print to edge) onto an SRA3 sheet but when the print firm prints out a proof of the SRA3 sheet, the crop marks, that I put in myself, don't appear.
    The measurements I think I am right in using for the greeting cards are: width: 432mm (210mm X 2 + four 3mm bleeds) height: 308mm (148mm X 2 + four 3mm bleeds).
Do I start by setting up (In document setup) the width and height of an SRA3 sheet (width:450mm height:320mm) with any or no bleed and slug settings, or would it be better to set the document up from the beginning as 432mm X 308mm (the size of the 4 cards plus bleeds)?
Have been struggling with this for four days so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    kind regards
    carly

It depends, but I would expect you to create the four A5 greetings cards
with the bleed and export to PDF with all the marks. Then the printer
will place them (impose) on to one SRA3 sheet. She/he gets to decide if
the marks show or not. You just have to make sure they are in the PDF
    you send him/her.
What is your printer telling you?

You can create any number of "guides" as PSD files. I use these to create a box-grid, or layout for PiP work. This ARTICLE goes into more detail. One can also easily create such in Titler.
