Crop pdf file

I received pdf file as attachment in Mail.
I copied the pdf file to iBook.
How do you crop the pdf?
I tried iBook, goodreader, easypdf, documents 2 to open the pdf however there is no feature to crop.

When you say "crop" what do you mean? Do you mean you want to delete some of the pages, or do you want to crop part of a single page?
In general, you have very limited options on the iPad itself (as opposed to transferring the PDF file to your laptop and then using any one of several applications that can do either or both of the above functions).
There is, however, one possibility on the iPad, depending on how much of a given page you want to crop. You could use the screen capture feature of the iPad (simultaneously press the Home button and the On/Off button on top) to save the screen as a photo and then use a photo-editing app to crop it as you wish.

  • Cropped .pdf files appear uncropped

I have all of the latest downloads for OS 10.5.1 and iWork.
I scan images on a copier and email them to myself as .pdf files.
I open the .pdf files in Preview and crop them as needed.
Then, when I try to import these cropped images into Keynote the images appear as their original full frame.
Anybody know why? How to stop this?
    Thanks!

I think this is currently a bug. One workaround is if you take the cropped .pdf then do File -> Print and THEN click Preview there. When the Preview window opens, you should be able to copy that and have it work for you.

  • Display issue with LiveCycle Designer ES4 for cropped PDF in WIN7

    Hi,
I am having issue displaying the cropped PDF file in the LiveCycle Designer ES4. The PDF files are cropped 3 inches from bottom using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. It used to display properly when we have a WinXP machine but once we moved to a Win7 machine, it cannot display the top part of the PDF anymore. Can anyone help on how to fix the display issue? Thanks.

I am having same issue with Adobe Acrobat 9. The Acrobat 9 cropped file is displaying properly under WinXP but have the same issue as above in Win7. This issue seems uncommon as I tried to look for similar issue  and couldn't find any.
P.S. It's only the Design View in Win7 that has the issue, I can still see the file fine with Preview PDF in both enviornment.

  • How to get crop tool in comment enabled pdf file?

    Hi,
I want to place comments in pdf file using Reader 9. So i opened the pdf file in acrobat 8 and did 'Enable for commenting in Adobe Reader' so that i place the comments in Reader. I need all advanced editing tools. But when i comment enabled Crop tool will disappear. How can i enable crop tool in comment enable pdf?
    Thanks in advance...

You can't. By enabling commenting, you're adding certain usage rights to the document. In order for those usage rights to be preserved, certain types of changes (most) need to be prevented. If such changes were allowed (and actually made), the usage rights would be invalid and Reader would no longer be able to add comments to the file. So you can enable commenting in Reader, or allow for other changes in Acrobat, but not both with the same file.

  • Crop marks inaccurate in "placed" PDF file, ok in original ID file??

    Hi all,
I've created a file using InDesign (CS5) and exported it to PDF format, with crop marks (for proofing purposes).  I then "place" the PDF file(s) back into an InDesign document and align them as a master for printing/cutting.  However, the crop marks are ever so slightly off (maybe 1/32 of an inch or less?).  As the cutter cuts every 2 inches, this "off-ness" gets larger with each 2" piece cut down the page so the last object ends up being maybe 1/16 of an inch off.  The original InDesign file prints exactly on-mark.
Why is this and is there a way to fix it??
    Thanks!

Getting crop marks isn't the issue, as I can do that using a variety of methods, including what you describe.  In our case, the PDF is less work because we create individual PDFs of each object (business cards, in this case) to send out for proof and we'd rather use the handy built-in method of placing a PDF to a master of several cards instead of pasting or recreating each original on the master.
I guess I'm just wondering why a robust program designed for production printing such as this has an option for including crop marks in a PDF if the PDF isn't going to be accurate when placed back into a design file?  I was hoping I made an error in my set-up somehow, which is still possible I suppose.

  • Using Examine Document Remove increases pdf file size !

    Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro v9.3.0
I've been editing a lot of scanned .pdfs - rotating and cropping pages.
All this has previously worked fine with v8 but now I find that Acrobat 9 is increasing the .pdf file size after using Examine Document and clicking Remove
    For example:
    original file: 16,861 Kbytes
file after cropping 74 pages (from A4 to A5): 16,879 Kbytes
file after running Examine Document > Remove cropped metadata : 79,914 Kbytes !!!
With Acrobat 8 this process would normally have halved the file size.
Am I now doing something wrong ??
    Thanks in advance.

Hello - This problem is still here !
    Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.4.2
I've got a .pdf created by an agency (so not a scanned image) which I want to make as small as possible for emailing to hundreds of people (I'll attach it if possible somehow ?)
    I open it up when it's 331Kb
    Click Document > Examine Document
Check the Metadata and Deleted/Cropped items
    Click Remove
Click File > Save As and hey presto, the new file with all that stuff supposedly removed is 2,588 Kb
Surely I'm not the only one who's bothered about .pdf file size ?

  • Error when opening a pdf file in chinese

    Hello,
I have created a specific PO form by copying the standard one BBP_PO in SRM.
After generating a pdf file with my specific form, I get the error "There was a problem reading this document (15)" when I try to open it.
I can see some characters, and then everything disappears. I have both english and chinese characters.
    The chinese language is installed.
If I use the standard form, I don't get the error !
In the form, I use some standard text, which are created in english and chinese.
    Thanks for your help.

Just so you know, my default PDF can opener remains set to Preview, though I will use Acrobat Reader when and if it serves my need.
The upside of the Show scroll bars set to always is intuitive with applications. The downside is that any web content that has the CSS overflow:scroll configured will permanently have scrollbars attached to that content. At least, that is the behavior with Safari on Mavericks. Since I do web work too, I have left my scrollbar setting to when scrolling.
I believe the OP issues about resizing PDFs has to do with the default nature of Preview to open PDFs in continuous, rather than single page mode. In the former state, one must always fuss with resizing the Preview window, and in the latter, Preview does what it should do — a single, tightly cropped PDF page. Setting the Single Page preference setting in one document does not make this behavior permanent for subsequent documents.
I made two changes to Preview that open any PDF in Single Page mode, and tightly cropped to that page:
Preview PreferencesPDF: Define 100% scale as: Size on screen equals size on printout
    Defaults write
    Change to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data/Library/Preferences
    defaults write com.apple.Preview kPVPDFDefaultPageViewModeOption 1
Continuous view mode is (0) zero
PDF documents will now default to Single Page mode

  • Saving a PDF file as a JPEG

When a user is trying to save a PDF file as a JPEG, in Adobe 8 Professional, they go to File and Save As it is coming up with the message "Acrobat could not save a page in this document because of the following error: The image is too wide to output. Please crop it to reduce resolution and try again (page 1)." There is a box that says Ignore all occurrences in this document. If I check it, and hit the "Ignore" button, it does not save. The default printer is set for a 48" wide plotter so the fact that it is too wide is not an issue.

I am encountering this same issue.  In my case the file is rather a large one, but I can not seem to make appropriate changes to make it save as a .jpg.  Does anyone have tips or suggestions?
"Acrobat could not save a page in this document because of the following error:
The image is too wide to output.  Please crop it or reduce resolution and try again. (Page 1)"
This is a one-page document, a composite of several images and text that I wish to save as a .jpg and send for a photographic print.
The original file was created in Illustrator; I have since been told that might not be the best place for what I'm doing but at this point I have a lot of hours invested and no desire to restart.
I was unable to export as a .jpg from illustrator, seem to have a very hard time getting the file into indesign, but I have managed to create a .PDF from the illustrator file and now am attempting to work around by bringing the PDF into photoshop.

  • I've exported my pages graphics document as a PDF file and can't seem to reduce the file size without compromising the quality of the photo's used even after choosing "best" quality.  I'm trying to send the file via e-mail but it's too big.  ??????

I am trying to e-mail a graphics pages document I made as a PDF file.  After trying to resize the file, the photo's quality is compromised (really blurry) even after choosing "Best" quality.  What am I doing wrong.  As a regular full sized file (PDF) it's fine, but when it gets reduced, it's bad and it needs to get printed from the e-mail copy I'm trying to send.  HELP! Please.

If there are a lot and/or large images the file will inevitably be large, no matter what.
You can reduce them down as far as possible by cropping and scaling them to the final size before creating the pdf. You can do this by opening the images in Preview .app and using Menu > Tools to reduce the resolution and to crop.
If you have used transparency effects eg shadow, reflection, transparency, 3D charts, OSX will by default render these at 72dpi in the pdf.

  • Create a single tall image from a multi-page pdf file

I would like to take a multi-pake pdf file, and have all of the pages "appended" from top to bottom edge to create a single tall image. I am a teacher, and I currently do this by hand, I am then able to annotate the entire page and croll down an entire document inside of Photoshop.
Here is an example: I have a pdf with 4 pages. Currently I open the pdf in PS, I end up with 4 images; I adjust the vertical canvas size of one of the images to be 4 times it's original size, then one-by-one I copy the contents of each image to that new tall image and move that layer vertically below the previous one. So the result is say a 1024x6400 pixel image.
I would like to be able to just open the pdf with a script and get this all done in one step.
    Any help is appreciated.

Thanks again c.pfaffenbichler. I had most of it worked out in my own way before you got back to me, but I wasn't able to get the final naming part down.
Like I said, I am a math teacher, and I use photoshop as my whiteboard, and draw with a graphics tablet. So I can print to pdf from any program, now I can import any document into photoshop basically to write on it. So this is wonderful. I have never seen another teacher use PS as a whiteboard in class in this way, so I am most likely the only person in my county or state that would need such a script.
After I got everything worked out, I added some things to the script. Some of my colleagues will use my files as a whiteboard if I send it to them as a tall single page pdf that they can scroll down and write over; so they don't need photoshop. So I have scripted in the saving of that pdf as well. Here are my changes; most of what I changed is in the section commented MY WORK.

  • [SOLVED] How to export a selection in a PDF file as PDF ?

I tried a lot of PDF readers, but none of them supports exporting a selection as PDF. Okular have a similar function, but it can only save selections as JPEG or PNG. Alternatively, I can take a screenshot of a selection in one PDF reader, but still JPEG. I want to use this function to crop a selection such as formulas, vector graphics inside a PDF file. I know Preview.app in OS X works great for me. I am wondering if there is any alternatives for Linux. Thank you so much.

Maybe take a look at: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gpdfx/ or maybe one of PDF's editors like MasterPDFEditor (free for non-commercial use), pdfeditor etc. Or one of converters like pdf2html and after conversion plug html (or the other format) into LaTeX document. Or... make OCR on PDF and then plug document saved in even plain txt format. Also, there is this utility: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/ … b/pdfpages (and in AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/latex-pdfpages/) - maybe it will be helpful for you (I don't use LaTeX).

  • How to print the mirror image of a pdf file?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to print the mirror image of a pdf file? I could have sworn I have done this before in an older version of Acrobat.
I am currently working with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional.
    Thank you,
    Tina

I just tested this and it worked fine for me.
When you select to print the cropped page, in the print dialog will be a thumbnail of what is about to be printed. Does this display just the cropped portion or the whole page?

  • How to measure a pdf file from the guides?

    Hi,
I need to check 200 pdf files before go to print,
    essentialy the size
So i wanna know if there are an easy way to measure the pdf file from the cut guides
    using indd cs6 or Illustrator
    thanks

    Thanks guys
The thing is that i dont have the indd file
I just have a lot of PDF files and i need to check all files gone correct for print
what Im doing is open PDF file in Illustrator and with the measure tool check the size of the crop marks
the "page size" in Acrobat includes the bleed area so i can´t be sure if the file gone correct
Im looking for a fast way to check that.
The Adobe measuring tool is basically the same as im doing in Illustrator
and in the Preflight profile i can´t find the page size
I guess there's no faster way
thanks a lot Danny Whitehead and John Mensinger for your interest

  • How determine page size by opening PDF file in binary mode

    Hi,
I have to print PDF file but I would like to know the page size of the PDF file.
What I have to verify (section, parameters) in order to know the page size? (Letter, Legal)
    Thanks!

And if you multiply the values by (1/72):
    (792 - 0) / 72 = 11
    (612 - 0) / 72 = 8.5
You may also have to consider rotated pages and not all pages within a PDF will match the size of the first page.
    Using Acrobat JavaScript:
    var nPage = 0;
    var cBox = "Crop";
    var aRect = this.getPageBox(cBox, nPage);
    var width = aRect[2] - aRect[0];
    var height = aRect[1] - aRect[3];
    console.println("Page " + (nPage + 1) + " has a width of " + (width / 72) + " inches and a height of "
    + (height / 72) + " inches");
Produces the following output on the Acrobat JS debugging console:
Page 1 has a width of 8.25 inches and a height of 11 inches

  • How does I resize a pdf file page using Acrobat Pro?

In Acrobat Pro, how can one resize a pdf file page (21.38'' x 26.75'') into one measuring 6'' x 9'', to be submitted as the trim size? Is there a feature that allows this to be done? How does one set all print options from the Application print dialog box to enable one to adjust the dimensions of any customized file page?

I want to scale the 21.4'' by 26.8'' content down to one that can be fitted inside a 6'' by 9'' book.
I have this pdf that was created from the InkFlow app, and I'm using Acrobat Pro to merge three files into one (about 300MB), which I needed to submit to Amazon's CreateSpace, but they needed the trim size of 6'' by 9'', while the pdf is 21.4''' by 26.8'', and I can't amend the source file size of the InkFlow files.
I tried fiddling with the Crop and Print options, but I'm unable to resize the pdf to match the trim size. The problem on my side isn't so much on printing but to resize the pdf file page to 6'' by 9'' to satisfy Amazon's requirement for their trim size. Could this be done with Acrobat Pro? The message that appears is: Full print options of Acrobat Pro, set all print options from the Application print dialog box. Thank for the help.
