Crop size of image by 5-10% - Is it possible?

I have the puppeteers hands showing at the bottom of the screen in a few clips. Is there a crop tool (like in Photoshop) that I can't find to where I could simply crop away the offending hands? If so, how, and will it automatically resize in the timeline? Thanks!

There are at least three ways to remove the hands in those clips:
1. Scale the image by the percentage necessary to push the hands out of the scene. Change the center point of the image so the top of the image stays in place and all the movement happens at the bottom of the image.
The downside of this technique is if you have to increase the size of the image much more than 5-10%, the image will deteriorate beyond acceptable.
2. If you have a locked off shot of the backdrop without the hands, you can composite the two shots with the section without the hands overlaying the part you wish to remove on the original shot. You do this with masks.
3. Overlay a black bar on ALL shots (letterbox) the material.
Good luck,
x

Now that Lightroom gets really stable and powerful, maybe we have a better chance to get some of the "smaller issues" resolved as well?
One feature which would interest me would be indication of the cropped size while performing the cropping. Lightroom could also show always the percentage of lost or ignored pixels by the crop as a rough measure of resulting "image resolution."
With posting in web in mind, I found on many occasions that I would like to have one more feature: I would like to set for the crop the
"desired image size" as I chose for the posting, say 1200x800 pixels, and not allow the crop to select a smaller area.
Now its up to "try and error" in such cases. Once the crop is off, Lightroom shows the cropped area if selected so, and so user can see if the crop still encompasses at least the desired image size.

There is a very simple reason that has been stated several times. You are not editing photos, you are making references to images through a database - its all ones and zeros with colours and hues. It is at the export stage you tell lightroom what crop you want. There is no point telling lightroom to crop 800 by 600 in the develop module (though I do see the reason for the request).
If you did specify 800 by 600, the crop would be a small proportion of a 4000 by 3000 pixel chip image ,so you would only get a tiny portion of the picture, then what?
How do you get more of the picture in the crop dimensions?
You scale it up by dragging the crop box having the constraints in the ratio of 800 by 600..... ( back to the original way LR uses....)
Wanting emperical 800 by 600 or 1200 by 800 then scaling up is 2 step process where Adobe sussed that one in the beta by saying u"se aspect rations and then use the all (powerful but ugly) export dialog."
Its has actually been thought out plenty more so "human factors mis-engineering that would make microsoft proud" kind of noise is probably incorrect.
There are some clever and overworked people battling with Lightroom . Bibble 5 was promised 6 momths ago..... still waiting for their 88% improvement in speed.......... but LR2.3 is not there yet
If you want a crop of certain "dimensions" enter them into the x and y spaces in the crop options and you will have 800 by 600 or 1200 by 800.
Then simply set up a batch export using the options long edge... compresssion %.... All these NEED to be entered for exporting at least once - even if you go Export as Previous.
that is my intrepretation of why Adobe decided not to give absolute crops, I'm sure if Adobe did comment on these forums a little more, they would explain more succintly, eloquently but a very similar explanation as mine is above.

  • Camera raw 6.5 limiting crop size

When I load up a raw image in camera raw 6.5, CS5 - the cropping tool suddenly is not working correctly
It limits the size of the crop that I can do.  I used to be able to surround the entire image with a crop and then edit it smaller on each of the  sides as needed.  But now, for some reason, it will not let me capture the entire image - only lets me highlight about 3/4 of it.  This is true for all my raw images - even ones that previously had no problems
    any ideas?

Updates are grayed out in photoshop - don't know why.  Even removed the 1.0 directory in App Data which was supposed to bring it back to being non-gray - but it did not.  So no, I can't even update.
However, I have two laptops - clones of eachother - the crop is still working perfectly on the other one.  So, I thought maybe the copy with the crop problem had corruption - so I deactivated, removed and then reinstalled a fresh copy.  But still the same problem.
When I go to crop - it will not let me crop the whole image - only about 3/4 the size of any image...?
    Other ideas?

  • Zoom in/out, Move through frame WITHOUT changing the placement/crop size?

How do you actually zoom in and out of a frame, move through it up and down, WITHOUT changing the crop size or placement of the frame?
    Scaling doesn't do it...

I mean I don't want the crop size or dimensions to change but I want to move the frame around within the same crop dimensions. Does that make sense?
While showing the image and wireframe in canvas, I should be able to adjust framing without changing dimensions by shift and dragging up or down, but I'm guessing it doesn't work once I've cropped the image since the dimensions are filled to the edge with black.
How can I accomplish this task. The clip is already in a sequences timeline.

  • HOW DO YOU SIZE AN IMAGE TO A SPECIFIC WIDTH AND HEIGHT ?

I need to size an image to 851 X 315, as recommended by Facebook to fit into the Timeline, but when I type 851 in the width,  the Height goes to 532.
the problem is when I change the height to 315, the length is reduced again, which is not supposed to.
Should I unlink them and how?  And would that cause distortions? thanks

set the crop tool to restrain to 851 x 315
Since your image is not proportional to that dimension, you will have to crop part of it out.

  • How does one crop an .ai image to a defined shape?

How does one crop an .ai image to a defined shape?
In other words, I want to select and crop from a larger image an area such as a rectangle that I define.
Right now, I try to select and crop a rectangular portion of an image but every shape that is even partially within the rectangle is selected both within and without the rectangle.
    I am using CS2 on a Mac.

    Clifford,
I've figured out part 1, how to crop an image using a rectangle on  another layer.
    Then I did:
To really get rid of the outlying parts, with the Clipping Mask still
    selected you may:
    5) Choose anything but Normal in the Transparency palette dropdown
and Object>Flatten Transparency (just keep the defaults).
The result was "Filter cannot complete because of unknown error"  FSpt
Is this a bug, or is their a problem with the way I am following your
    method?
    It is hard to say.
It is more convenient to place the rectangle mentioned in 1) on the same layer; if you place the path(s) to define the Clipping Mask, the Clipping Mask and its contents will be on that layer, everything from lower layers being moved to it.
    What about 2) - 4)?
It is easier to answer if you state what happens in the individual steps (repeated here):
    1) Create a rectangle on top of the image with the same size (you may use the Transform palette/panel to see the size, and to place it by);
    2) Create the cutout shape;
    3) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Compound Path>Make;
    4) Also select the image, and Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
To really get rid of the outlying parts, with the Clipping Mask still selected you may:
    5) Choose anything but Normal in the Transparency palette dropdown and Object>Flatten Transparency (just keep the defaults).

  • Low File Size/Great Image Quality: H.264, AAC

    1. I created a slideshow in iPhoto, exported it to a QT movie file. The properties of it is as follows:
    Exibit A:
    Dimensions: 720x480
Format: MPEG-4 Video, AAC, Stereo, 44.100kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 7277.87 kbits/sec
    Channel Count: 2
    Duration: 02'46
    Size: 143.58MB
    2. I pulled a QT Movie file from the web with the following properties:
    Exibit B:
    Dimensions: 480x360
Format: AAC, H.264, Stereo (LR), 48.000kHz
    FPS: 28.79
    Channel Count: 2
    Duration: 01'22
    Data Rate: 868.14 kbits/sec
    Size: 8.5MB
    3. I tried to see if I could compress my movie and keep the quality as comparible to Exibit B. Here's what I ended up with:
    Exibit C:
    Dimensions: 720x480
Format: AAC, H.264, Stereo (LR), 44.100kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 4826.73 kbits/sec
    Channel Count: 2
    Duration: 02'46
    Size: 95.22MB
    4. I tried again. This time creating the same dimension as Exibit B. Here what I got:
    Exibit D:
    Dimensions: 480x360
Format: AAC, H.264, Stereo (LR), 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 2577.17 kbits/sec
    Channel Count: 2
    Duration: 02'46
    Size: 51MB
How can I create a very low size and image quality as Exibit B?
I have QTPro. Do I need something else?
    Thanks.

    Update:
Well playing all exibits on the Windows workstation worked just fine after the update. I now has QT7.
Next...I've exported Exibit A down to 8MB (Exitbit F)by recommendations from Capt. QTKirk. Here are the properties:
    Exibit F:
Format: AAC, Stereo (LR), 32.000kHz, H.264, 720x480, Millions
    FPS: 15
    Data Size: 8.5MB
    Data Rate: 429.79kbits/sec
    Overall Quality:
Video: Fair at 720x480; much better at 486x324; overall choppy transitions as well
    Audio: Fair -close to mono.
    Anyone else have any suggestions?
How and what are others using to get the audio/video quality as crisp and sharp as what's shown in the QT Movie Trailer site?

  • Size of image is getting increased

    Hi
I have cross compiled BDB using m68k-elf toolchain.
I'm using motorola coldfire processor with uClinux for our development purpose. Now I need to include BDB into uClinux and flash it into our processor. The flash we are using is 4mb. The image I have built (without BDB) was around 1.3MB. But if I include BDB libraries and make the image, the size of image is 11MB. How can I come out of this problem
After i cross compiled BDB, I have taken the library files created ( libdb.a, libdb-4.5.a ) into romfs/lib and binary files (db_archive, db_dump,db_load.........) into romfs/bin of uClinux distribution and made the image.
I fell that it is not the right process but dont have any idea how to go with. Image size should be less. Can anyone help me
    Thanks inadvance
    elizabeth

    Hi Elizabeth,
Another possible cause of your problem is that you are building static libraries. Each time you link against a static library (in this case the Berkeley DB library for each utility), the footprint of the library is added to the size of the application being built.
You should probably configure Berkeley DB with the "--enable-shared --disable-static" flags. That will generate libdb*.so files not libdb*.a files, and the resulting utilities should be significantly smaller.
    Information on static libraries here:

    Information on shared libraries here:

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
You can opnly resize using the available options and file size is not one of them

  • How to reduce size of image while uploading it in livecycle pdf.

    Hi,
I have created a pdf with Image field using live cycle designer.
I have selected "Sizing: Scale Image to fit Rectangle".
Now the problem is the pdf which i have created is 1.5MB and if i import or upload a 2.5MB image in image field then the size of pdf becomes 6MB.
I have around 20 image fields in my pdf report , so if people keep uploading high resolution images in the pdf then the pdf becomes more then 15MB, slow and unmanagable.
Is there any way by which even if I upload a 5MB image the it should automatically reduce image size?
As the users does not bother to reduce the size of image they just upload high resolution and large size image in pdf.
Please tell me the way through which i can reduce the image size automatically while uploading.

  • Changing the size of images displayed when a thumbnail is clicked

In an Aperture gallery, how do I change the size an image is displayed when a thumbnail is clicked. There are sliders for changing the size of the thumbnail; I can't find an adjustment anywhere for the size an image is displayed when the curved arrow in the upper left hand corner is clicked.
    Help!
    --Kenoli

    Hi Kenoli,
In an Aperture gallery, how do I change the size an image is displayed when a thumbnail is clicked.
Do you mean "double-clicked"? In "Browser" mode, when I click on a photo, nothing changes. However, when I double-click on a photo, it switches to "Viewer" mode.
However, I'm missing the curved arrow that you mention. I can't find any photos with a curved arrow over them in any mode. In fact, the only overlays are the badges in the lower right.
Can you be a little more specific about exactly what mode you are in?

  • How can i reduce the size of Images  in MIDlet

    Hi all,
How can i reduce the size of Images in Form, bcoz they are covering lots of spaces in form due to that other items are not displaying in specific order.
    Best regrads

Better you can use Canvas class and using drawImage() function you can show the image. Before that you have to Get the maximum size of your phone screen using the following:
    x = (width/2) - (image.getWidth()/2);
    y = (height/2) - (image.getHeight()/2);

  • Why is there no way to change the default crop size?

This is a common question and seems would be a very easy thing to implement.
Many people work on a project that requires the same framing yet are required to change the crop size photo after photo.

Lightroom defaults to the crop ratio of the original photo. I agree that it would be a nice feature to be able to set a default crop ratio. But it hasn't happened yet.

  • Ken Burns: make final crop size same as crop coordinatesin next clip

I have split a clip at a certain point, say 2 seconds in.
I have a Ken Burns crop for the duration of the first two seconds so the final frame is cropped to the (red) end frame. I want this to flow seemlessly into the next frame, which has just had a normal static crop applied. I can see the crop coordinates for this, so I preseume I need my final frame of the ken Burns crop to match those coordinates so as not to get a sudden jump when it goes from the last frame of the Ken Burns crop to the first frame of the static crop.
Alternatively (popssibly better) would be not to have to spliut off the first two seconds, and make the ken burns effect last just for that duration and then stay static on the end crop size.
(I hope I'm making myself clear)
    Can anyone help please?

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
You can't slip the clips and make the Ken Burns effect seamless. Why are you splitting the clip? If you can avoid that it would be better.
OK, then as in the second part of my question, can I make the Ken Burns last for just the first two seconds. I can't find a way to set the duration, it seems to last the whole duration of the clip, that's why I split it because I wanted to pan/zoom with ken Burns for two seconds then stay with the final crop.
