Crop to Artboard missing in Illustrator CS6

Can anyone help me?
Illustrator CS3 had a feature that was "trim/crop to artboard" but I cannot find it now in CS6. So now when I save my work, it does not confine the save to the artboard but includes all the art on the file, messing up all the map work I have isolated with the artboard.  The only thing close now is the "fit to artboard" which is exactly opposite of what I need and had in CS3. Am I missing something or somewhere?
HELP!

I have tried both ai and eps, and even when I export to jpg it is the entire map with the outline of the artboard showing where I want it to be but not cropped to that boundry.

  • Issues with opening multiple artboard docs in Illustrator CS6

Hi. I'm working in CS6 Cloud. I have a document with multiple artboards. However, when I go to open it, a dialogue box comes up and says "Open Pdf - Select a page from PDF to open...". I can then only open single artboards as separate documents. How do I go back to opening multiple art boards all at once? Thanks.

Thanks for your help! That makes sense...I'm pretty sure I didn't save it as a pdf file, which is why I was getting confused...but maybe in between the document being opened between CS6 Cloud and CS5 (which my partner uses), something weird happened?? I will copy everything back into a new doc again with mulitple artboards and make sure it's saved for compatibility with previous versions, and see where that takes me. Thanks again for your help.

  • Illustrator CS6: resizing artboard - x y dimensions box missing

    Hi,
first of all: I am NOT referring to the dimension boxes on the toolbar.
I'm learning Illustrator CS6 and I've got a document with some artboards.    I select the Artboard tool and resize the artboard without any issues.  However, I've seen lots of videos where a little box shows while the artboard is being resized and it shows X:... Y:...
I don't have that.   Hope this is making sense.
I have googled this extensively but no luck.
    Is it a Mac-specific feature?  I'm using Windows 7.
How do I turn it on?
    thx
    David

Feature is on both Win & Mac

You probably have the defaults so should work. If not edit your smart guide preferences and add checkmarks I have.

  • Cropping Images with Clipping Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

In this video you will learn a quick and easy method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using clipping masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out as well as modify the clipping path later on.

Is there a way to make a clipping mask for a many-layered image without collapsing all the layers? I'd love to keep my image as is (it's quite complex), I just want to crop the entire thing.
    thanks!

  • Cropping Images with Opacity Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

In this video you will learn a versatile method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using opacity masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out, modify the clipping path later, and use complex blending modes, transparencies, and knockout groups.

    Firstly great tutorial.
Anyway I initially started a thread in the forums which lead me here regarding the use of opacity masks, I'm having real problems finding a solution to my specific problem.
I've got 2 issues I'm trying to solve, the first is how do I show just a portion an object above another even though it sits in a layer behind.
The second is I have an object with a linear gradient applied and I want to add yet another gradient just to a certain part of that object in order to make it fade out in a certain way.
I've spent hours pouring through the help topics but nothing seems to fit my exact problem, sorry for asking questions here but I'm really stumped and I think an opacity mask would do the trick, I'm just not sure how to execute it.
    Thanks heaps.

  • Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg

Hi. I'm using illustrator cs6 on pc. I've made a scientific figure for a paper and now I'm trying to export as a png or save for microsoft office. Despite my figure being in the middle of my artboard, it always comes out bottom left in the png file or jpg. Must be making a school boy error! Please help!

In similar cases, my solution is to "select all" then "deselect" only the artwork I want to keep and "delete". If I'm curious I may "cut" then "paste" to see what shows up in the center of the screen. it is usually some stray point. or other element out direct sight.

  • Illustrator CS6 - Export jpg without adding artboard to name

Is there a way in Illustrator CS6 to export as jpg with Use Artboard check to not have illustrator add the name of the artboard to your file name?
    Example -
    File name "redboat.ai"
Export jpg "redboat.jpg" with Use Artboard option selected
    File name becomes "redboat-01.jpg"
This is not a huge problem when I only have 1 or two files but when I have to rename 100+ file names it can be a pain.
I do understand that I can batch rename in Bridge but it would be nice if I could have these files saved without the artboard name on them.
    Any help appreciated.

Export to .jog with use artbaords, needs to add to the name, so shen you export imaegs with multiple artbaords you do not have reapeated names.
You can do a save for web, and turn on clip to artboard and you will get the filename you need. Record an action to save the file to your desktop, and you will save even more time running this as a batch command on a folder of images.

  • Japanese Crop Marks illustrator CS6

The setting to 'use japanese cropmarks' has been removed from the general settings in illustrator CS6. Any suggestions as to how I can get these back? I want them on my artwork not added at print. I have an Action to add them to my cutter profiles in CS4 and CS5 but this no longer works in 6 as the Japanese Crop Mark setting has been removed. I therefore only get corner trims and not center marks.

Thanks for your replies, I have ran the update on my illustrator and am now running 16.0.4 (as shown in screen shot) but still do not have this option.
Are you running English CS6 or ME version? We use ME version but Japanese trims were available in CS4 and 5 ME I am just confussed as to why they would take this option away from just the ME version. I have a English copy so I am going to run an update on that and see if I get a different result.

  • Missing workspaces like Photoshop in Illustrator CS6 using a Win 7 64 bit PC

I just finished a tutorial about type effects in Illustrator CS6 by Kelby training he suggested that we set the workspace to (Like Photoshop) but this selection is not there and other selections are missing.
is there some kind of fix for this because I primarily use Photoshop and the interface would be helpful in finding my way around.

  • Illustrator CS6 click dragging artboard question

Illustrator CS6- When click holding the mouse while holding down the spacebar to move the artboard, it no longer shows the artboard and artwork moving as it did in CS5 & earlier.  When I release the mouse the artwork just jumps to where the hand is.  Is this a setting that I don't have set correctly?  It's not a big deal but it is nice to see where things are moving in relation to the monitor.
    Any help is appreciated.

I have been struggeling with this for over 1 month now. This is what I have done, and so far it has worked perfectly for me. (fingers crossed)
I changed my units to pixels under <<Preferences
When I create a new artboard, I use Pixels for the units.
I change the preview mode to <<Pixel instead of <<default
and I check the box that says <<Align New Objects to Pixel Grid
I've been able to create new artboards within an existing document as well with great success.

  • Illustrator CS6: Missing small pixels box that should follow the cursor when creating objects

Somehow I've managed to disable a feature in Illustrator CS6 that does two things: 1) it causes a small box to follow the cursor when I'm drawing an object 2) the light green lines or x's are gone now, too. How can I get them back? Are they only visible under certain circumstances?  Thanks!
