Crop Tool Error "Cannot complete your request because resulting document would be too big."

Hello!
Anytime I try to crop an image, I can scale to the size I need, but I cannot complete the request. I get this error "cannot complete your request because resulting document would be too big".
This only happens when I am trying to crop something, full document or PNG, JPG, etc.
I am in Photoshop CC 2014, on a Windows platform.
Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated!

That's a well known bug on MacOS 10.10. Apple is aware of it, and working on a solution.

Using PhotoshopCS4 on a newish iMac, 8gb, with Mavericks, "Cannot complete your request because of a program error" regularly appears but, so far as I can see, only if no file is open. Any ideas on how to stop this irritating behaviour? Most usual things tried, trash preferences, reinstall, validify fonts etc. All ideas welcome!

It may have something to do with the way a .psd file is built. My suspicion is that the problem originates when I drag and drop vector art from a .ai file into the .psd document.
This seems rather unlikely to me.
Is there anything else special about the files (additional alpha-channels, 16bit, …)?
What have you done with regard to trouble-shooting and maintenance-routines so far (trashing prefs, repairing permissions etc.)?

Browser gets "Cannot complete your request because of a program error"

Running Photoshop-7, WinXP Pro, on a PC with 2MB ram.
PS7 was working fine but I installed a new Samsung 2253BW LCD monitor, and about 3 new software. I don't know what I did but when I opened PS7, the browser's left window pane does not show the folders at the left and only shows (+)Desktop. The right window pane shows thumbnails of whatever folder I'm in.
WHAT I CANNOT DO:
When I click the (+) for the Desktop icon in the left pane, I get the message "Cannot complete your request because of a program error."
WHAT I CAN DO:
I can browse using the textbox above the right window pane and access any graphic file I want to.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
- Removed PS7. Installed PS7. --- Same problem.
- Created a new user --- PS7 works normally!
- Go back to the original user. --- Same problem.
Any ideas before I get a sledge hammer?

Never mind, I found the problem.
It was a new desktop icon named "Folding@home" that a new software must have installed. I deleted it and now PS7's browser works normally again. Pretty unbelievable!

Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full

When I attempt to crop a photo I get this message: Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full. In fact one scratch disk has 62+ GB and the other has 52+ GB available. Does anyone have a solution for this?

@Mylenium: My computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, 16 GB Ram, AMD Radeon 6900 series with I don't remember how many GB of ram (I installed it maybe 2 1/2 or 3 years ago). I have 4 physical hard drives with Raid 0 and Raid 5 configurations. I have been using my system full bore since I built it, and the entire configuration has been excellent for my processes until now. Is there any other specific information that you would need to have an idea of what the problem may be? Thanks.
@ JJMack: My scratch disk available volumes were wide open with 62 GB available (S: drive) and 52 GB available (O: drive). I'm puzzled because I have used this configuration on my computer for the past 2 1/2+ years with flawless function. I'm not new to setting up and configuring my computer, but I'm new to this odd error message.

I am taking a CS6 Photoshop class, I downloaded the data files from cengagebrain.com, my task in the book is to click File on the Menu bar, then click Open, then navigate to the drive and folder where you store you Data Files. When I click the corresponding file (PS 1-1.psd), I get the following error message: Cannot complete your request because it's not the right type of document.

Are you sure the file has the correct suffix?
It might have been damaged in downloading, unstuffing, copying …, so if you are certain that the site is legit you may want to try re-downloading the file.

I created provisioned one user in Shared Services and then assigned to a group. After this I went to workspace in advance mode in order to manage security filters, the user does not appear and when I try to "create" an existing user, an error appears: Cannot complete your request because the database is being refreshed
I'm not running any refresh in the database and my EAS does not show anything. What could be happening? It is Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3

Photoshop5: Cannot complete your request because of a program error!

Well fiddle... looks like now I've done it -- and it's stuck. Saved the file, and tried to start afresh -- nada. Same ...
i'm trying to merge two vector layers. I selected and copied the layer from a source and pasted it onto a target, and and tried to use 'Merge'...

same thing. Ouch!   If the program knows it has an error, then does that mean the error was programmed into the product to begin with?
At least it' was polite about it -- unlike Window which just thows blue screens and core dumps at me... ;-/ ... Ideas?
Haven't tried support yet... haven't tried uninstalling product and reinstalling...what a pain...

As for your statement: "if you'd like to have others verify whether they see your problem using EXACTLY your file, you can make it available for others" - I have offered to upload my files more than once. Nobody has responded to any request asking where to upload it to.
Why you think going into your "credentials" -- about how professional you are, when you go launch into attacks like these should hold any weight is beyond me.
If you are here to help, "out of the goodness of your heart" (your words), you aren't showing it.
Instead, you are launching into how I'm using the wrong tool, the wrong technique, the wrong hardware...etc.
You claim Nvidia's drivers have more problems with Adobe SW or Photoshop, yet when they are used by other vendors supercomputer applications where accuracy is far more scrutinized, and they are used for real-time display composition, they don't have the same problems.    Yet under less demanding, static conditions once vendor claims more problems in the driver. When it is used under more stringent conditions and under higher load and works, with more vendors and customers, abut one vendor claims problems, one usually looks in the 1 vendors usage of the driver -- and not at the driver.
You claim that one or more Adobe engineers favor ATI over NVidia drivers -- in my experience, that affects whether they bother to track down the source of 'faults' (meaning, when it's a bug in their code, they just assume it is in the driver they don't like, vs. if it is in the Vendor they like, they will do the extra work and find the root cause -- fixing problems in their code **OR**, if finding problems in the vendors code, will report them with the result that those bugs get fixed.
By preferring ATI over Nvidia, Adobe is less likely to find bugs in their own usage of the drivers, and unlikely to make sure such bugs are fixed in the drivers -- so the next generation of drivers is only likely to be worse.
There are much larger venders and user bases that don't have these problems -- this strongly points to to a specific application's usage (in their code, or in driver code that only they use).
It doesn't matter from a customer perspective. Adobe doesn't say "we only support ATI cards, or prefer ATI cards, officially", so anything less than thorough response to perceived Nvidia problems is "unprofessional". It's lettting personal biases give customers a poorer experience.
You supporting the status quo is ingratiating, but not helpful to them inproving their product.
That doesn't fall into my definition of what is good for the company.
So you might question the goodness of your heart w/rt how you respond to people needing help and your attitudes towards platform superiority if you really want to promote what is good for the company and for customers.

FWIW, I don't have a 'rig', and have little pride in it, nor would it qualify as 'new', at nearly 2 years.
I do little gaming. I average < 1 game year. I do get 1080p, 10-bit playback wwithout stutters or frame drops of real-time video while editing in Photoshop (usually)... Not a normal way of working, but when I have guests that want to watch video, while I am doing work, it's doable. Does your machine sit in your living room and double as a media center?   I can't afford multiple machines -- I don't have a company paying hardware/software.
I get you are well off and can afford to buy multiple cards to test with on a whime -- as you suggest to me. That's not where I come from.
Also, I'm aware that before CS4, photo shop had a caveat saying it couldn't work with multiple GPU's (Crossfire/SLI/285/590's (from a driver perspective, a 285/590, is an SLI setup -- 2 cards)). I'm also aware that Adobe claims to have fixed the problem in CS4, with photoshop (though not some other products). It's is also the case that Nividia has exclusions for Multi-GPU mode for Adobe's products that don't work in multi-GPU mode. Before CS4, that included an exclusion for photoshop. Adobe's claim was that it worked, and Nvidia removed the exclusion in their per-app auto-config tool.
If you want to claim that Adobe lied to Nvidia about photoshop being multi-GPU cable, it's trivial for Nvidia (or an end user like me), to change the config to be single-GPU only).
You need to be clear -- are you saying Nvidia should remove Photoshop's compatability with Multi-GPU setups, or not.
If you aren't willing to say -- then, you are guilty of being a worse flake than me -- as you are making vague statements about reliability, but aren't willing to say -- to Adobe and Nvidia, officially whether such configs should be enabled or disabled.
So please don't put me in the middle. I'm just a customer who believed what Adobe offficially said. If you know they are wrong -- please make sure Adobe and Nvidia offically know about this --- and new drivers will automatically have multi-GPU abilities turned off for Photoshop.
You won't need to take it out on users like me.

I say "certain" files because not all Photoshop files have this problem. It may have something to do with the way a .psd file is built. Hi,
I keep getting this error message when I try to open files, or place anything. I'm sure it would come up for other things as well, but these are the only actions I'm attempting. The only way to fix it is to restart photoshop. It is becoming quite a hassle PLEASE HELP!

'cannot complete your request - program error' and/or 'this app has been moved'

Does anyone recognize this issue: I want to override the default app used in opening a particular file on the finder, using the contextual menu under the control key and choosing PSD CS3; these days, I get an error message saying the app was moved and repairs must be made. Whether I cancel or not, it launches what appears to be a collateral version of PSD CS3 and opens the file. That can't be good....
Additionally, I keep getting errors: "cannot complete your request because of a program error....." increasingly more frequent.......
I would be most grateful for any ideas!

I just found this on an old OSXhints page from 2003:
"I posted this on the Adobe Photoshop Support forum but am posting it here, too. The original idea for the solution was taken from a hint on this site so, in effect, the hint belongs here. I solved a problem with a Photoshop 7 install running under OS X 10.3 (Panther) on a new PowerBook G4 15." I expect that this experience should apply to any Panther install and should not be specific to PowerBooks.
Problem:Files not owned by Photoshop (generic JPEGs, GIFs, Adobe Illustrator files, etc.) will not open. Photoshop will go through the motion of opening the file (e.g. display the Profile dialog or, in the case of Illustrator files, display the Rasterization Settings dialog) but will fail to open the file and display a dialog stating that the file cannot be opened due to a "Program Error". Files are opened by several means: Via the application's "Open" command, drag-and-dropped onto the Dock icon, and Control-Click then Open-With in the Finder.
Files that are owned by Photoshop open fine. By "owned" I do not mean in the Unix permissions sense but in the owner application sense, i.e., if Get Info on the file the application listed under "Kind" is Photoshop. The problem files previously worked with this installation of Photoshop and the user reported that "This just started happening." No OS updates or software installs had occured before onset of the problem.
Other Adobe applications work fine, as do all other applications in general on this machine. File corruption and/or disk problems were not expected given the age of the machine and the amount of use it has had since first-use. These files are all maintained locally on the machine as the user normally works in a stand-alone environment.
I created a new user on this machine and logged in as that user. In this user account, Photoshop behaves correctly, implying that the problem is user-specific which indicts preference files as opposed to something systemic or application-specific. I deleted all Photoshop preference files I could find in ~username/Library but this did not solve the problem. The "Fast User Switching" was a great help in this process since I could very quickly switch back-and-forth between accounts as I tested various corrective actions.
Solution:I renamed the Library folder of the problem user account to "Library Old". Any name will work as long as it is different from "Library". Logged-out and logged-in, and the system re-created the Library folder. At this point, the account had lost almost all personalization and/or configuration settings, but Photoshop's operation was restored to normal. After verifying Photoshop's operation, I rebuilt all the lost personalization/configuration from notes, etc.
I found this hint on macosxhints.com. The hint did not apply to Photoshop but more generally directed to preference-related problems that could not be resolved by removing/replacing the application's preference files."

If you are working with a file you modified in Lightroom, you should go to the Lightroom Photo menu and choose Edit in... and the version of Photoshop you want to open it in.
There a dialog will ask if you want to transfer the LR settings you made to your photo when you open in Photoshop.

There is likely a font on that system that's corrupted or for some reason Photoshop just can't deal with. Fonts are complex things, and it's well known that bad fonts can crash applications.
Ferreting out such a font is normally a matter of removing all but the default fonts, seeing that the problem is corrected, then adding the fonts back in systematically until the offender is isolated. Yes, this can be tedious.
If it's not a font problem, there's a possibility it's a display driver problem. To help diagnose that, go into Edit - Preferences - Performance, disable OpenGL Drawing, then restart Photoshop. If the problem goes away, you'll want to check the web site of the maker of the video card for driver updates. Don't forget to re-enable OpenGL Drawing again after updating the driver.

I keep getting a message saying ( Could not complete your request because of a program error??
Does anyone know what this means or how to fix?

Can you please be more detailed? When are you getting this - what is causing it? Any specific tool or while starting Photoshop itself?
Do you see an error number or error code or a report? Can you post that here?

Crop Tool Error "Cannot complete your request because resulting document would be too big."
