Crop tool kept active
Hi Everyone
I'm new to Lightroom - day one and loving it so far! Quick question (apologies if it's stupid) but my workflow sees me crop a batch of photos one after the other. In LR every time I accept a crop and right click to move to the next photo I need to use the R key or choose the crop tool to do the same cropping to the next photo and the next and the next etc.
Is there a way to keep the crop tool active as you move through images?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Brendan
If you're trying to apply the same crop to images in sequence, then no that's not the way to do it, i.e. when you move to the next image it won't inherit the same crop as the image you've just left, it will open the image with the crop tool still open (which it what I thought you were trying to achieve) but it will either be at full image size or whatever size you had previously cropped that image to.
If you want to apply the SAME crop to a bunch of images, better to sync settings.

Crop tool crops more than I specify
Good morning,
Photoshop has recently begun cropping more of my image than I specify when I use the crop tool. Regardless of shape or size of the crop box I specify, whenever I use the tool and hit enter, the image is cropped down to a small square.
I can use the marquee tool and select crop from the menu with no problem.
Any suggestions? When the Crop tool is active, do you have any numbers in the little boxes at the top of the Photoshop main window? If so, clear them out.

LR 5.x crop tool bug: selection jumping on activation
Hi,
I did not see this reported, but I'd be rather surprised if nobody had noticed the issue before.
I'm seeing this behavior since I upgraded from LR 4 to LR 5. I think I did the upgrade with 5.3, but at 5.6 I still have the following problem:
After setting a cropping rectangle (usually with rotation), then change some settings (e.g. exposure, shadows, blacks, etc.) and then activate the cropping tool again, the displayed image jumps to the original frame size for half a second and then back to the previously set crop.
Since I usually go back to cropping only for small changes in rotation, this is especially annoying, because it irritates the eye in a way that I'm sometimes not even sure if I'm seeing my previous setting again. And then I have forgotten how I actually wanted to adjust the setting
This seems to me like a bug introduced in LR5. I'm using Lightroom since version 2 and never had this behavior until the upgrade to LR5.
I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, nvidia Graphics.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open an image in the development module (I'm using Canon CR2 raws)
2) Set a cropping window
3) change some image settings, e.g. exposure
4) activate the cropping tool
Please fix this behavior.
Thanks,
KarstenThanks for the clarification. Too bad that the fix did not make it into LR 5.6.
I'm new here, so please apologize my beginners question: Is there a place where I can find bug reports that were accepted as known bugs? I tried the community search on cropping tool and did not find any related bugs.
Thanks,

Crop Tool crashes when OPENGL is activated
Hi,
im on vista 32bit and my notebook video driver is intel 965 chipset ( i just updated my drivers)
probem is when i enable my OPENGL in order to use the rotate canvas feature, crop tool crashes whenever i activate it. most of the tools work ok(haven\t tried all yet)
but when i disable OpenGL, crop tool works fine.
I need the rotate canvas feature & thus OPENGl enabled.. what can I do about the crop tool(and most probably some other tools) crashing on me?
i already tried resetting & install/reisntall. .does not help!!
pls advice!]You could try playing with the settings of OpenGL in the PS preferences dialog.
Or look at the video driver settings in Display Properties.
Otherwise, as I said, your computer may not be up to it. -
Today in order to erase what is outside a selected area in a layer you do:
1. chosing a object or area
2. inverse the selection
3. delete
My suggestion is to create a '1 layer/folder' crop tool and save all thuse steps.
That's a procedure that all of us use many times every day and make sense to improve it.
What do you think?
LaDiamantHere's your solution, really once again available already in photoshop
Record an Action… step by step
• With your selection still active Press command J
• Press option left bracket, which will navigate to the original layer
• Delete current layer (delete key)
• Option right bracket
Now this action can be given an F key shortcut, meaning that with the simple press of a key you can crop layers, and anything outside including anything outside the Canvas area.Only issue, it will rename the layer with the word 'copy'
I know its a workaround, but its better than a menu command as far as I can see. -
Crop Tool went missing 5.1
OK, I am not new to PS5.1 Extended. I have been using Photoshop and the Crop Tool for years. . . tonight, I was going through a long list of photos, cropping, savings, closing, opening, cropping, saving. . . and I may have dragged the mouse across the page or something, but whatever I did, I have lost the crop tool. It's gone.
And on top of that, if I open a JPG image and then go to the Image menu item, the Crop selection is grayed out. . .
What the h^$% have I done and how can I get it back?
I have tried reseting my work place (Essentials) but that has not worked. The crop tool is grouped with the slice tools in the toolbox and the crop menu item is grayed out unless you have an active selection or the crop tool drawn out.

CROP Tool reduces images to a tiny speck!
In the past the CROP tool has worked as it should - crops out unwanted background. But recently when I try to crop an image it reduces the image to a TINY speck! You cannot even see the image anymore - just a tiny spot!
WHAT in the world is going on? I think I must have turned SOMETHING either ON or OFF - but I don't know what?
Does anyone have a clue as to how to resolve this problem and get my CROP tool working correctly again? Your expertise will be greatly appreciated as I am at my wits end!
Frustrated in TN!With the Crop tool activated, look at the controls near the top of the Photoshop main window. Chances are you have values in the Height and Width fields. Press the [Clear] button to clear out these fields, and I believe the Crop tool will be restored to the operation you know and love.

Crop tool in CS5 worked just like previous editions until suddenly, the picture disappears when you hit the enter key. I assume that I have
inadvertantly turned on or off something to cause it to wipe the picture from my screen. Any clues would be appreciated.I'm wondering if somehow some previous use of the Alt key has caused something other than the Crop confirmation to be activated...
Do you see the same thing when you click the mouse on the checkmark near the top of the Photoshop main window?
Is the image completely closed / deleted / gone? Is there still a tab open for it? What's showing on the screen?

The crop tool makes every photo only 1 pixel large
Software: Adobe Photoshop CS3
OS: XP w/SP3
System: Dell vostro 200, 2.20GHz Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD (mostly free), Intel G33/G31 Express 128.
ERROR:
No error message displayed
ISSUE:
When cropping a photo, the crop tool highlights the photo correctly, but when the crop is activated it resized the photo to about 1 pixel, no matter how large or small the selection crop was.
Actions took:
I fully installed all the updates, when unsuccessful, I repaired the installation, when that was unsuccessful, I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled Photoshop. This was also unsuccessful...hit the clear button in the option bar when selecting the crop tool. if that doesn't reset it, see the faq in this forum about resetting your photoshop preferences.

Does the new crop tool annoy you?
I do not like the fact that the tool is active until I switch to another tool.
I would like those crop marks to go away after I've finished my crop.Thank you, Danny. I should have thought of that since control-h on the pc
hides a selection marquee.

I have been using Elements 8 ever since it came out, and all of a sudden the cropping tool has changed: I can no longer crop horizontally or vertically, only diagonally. The up/down/side arrows have disappeared! Please help if you can, I'm no longer able to make my photos look their best. Thank you in advance.
Quit the editor (Quit PSE on a mac). Then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Is there any way to create an action or keyboard shortcut to set the Crop tool to the front window size in Photoshop CS6?
I find that I use that several times a day. I got used to it being the top choice in the Crop tool presets menu.
Thanks. It depends on whether you have the cloud version or perpetual license version.
For the cloud version press I (eye)
For the perpectual version press F -
Can I get rid of the guide lines in the new PSE 10 crop tool?
The title really says it all. I dislike the guide lines in the new PSE 10 crop tool. Is there a way to get rid of them so the tool looks like it did in PSE 9?
Thanks!

Crop tool won't drag with CC Photoshop 2014
I have searched everywhere and talked with Adobe support through chat (they ended that abruptly??!), and Twitter and still have not had any resolution to this. I hope someone can help.
I'm trying to do a simple crop. I've done it a million times with no problems BEFORE CC 2014.
I select the crop tool and try to drag but it always stops immediately and selects the entire image as the Crop Preview.
I've tried:
using "Classic Mode"
different Ratios/Resolutions
uninstalling/re-installing
installing the latest update - but that always fails. - I'll even completely uninstall, then when it goes to re-install it will install the one file (after a million attempts at failing to download it) and then fail on an update that it tries to install. I've tried at least 20 times. AT LEAST!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Could it be my NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS? (I know that's not the reason for the failed downloads from Adobe servers - that's all on them.)

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEI have spent a week trying to get this to work and now it just started working for all images. I have NO idea why.
Here's what I did:
1. uninstalled NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS drivers and reinstalled them
2. uninstalled CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
3. clean install of CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
4. installed update (took dozens of tries before this actually downloaded and installed successfully unfortunately)
5. clicked on the crop tool and tried to drag... nothing happened
6. waited, waited and waited.. went about my other work and forgot about it and then after about 5 minutes the crop box appeared. I was able to adjust it too.
No idea but I'm happy now. -
Why is the crop tool in Lightroom 5 so sluggish on my otherwise very fast machine?
I'm running a Macbook Pro Retina, new from this time last year. It's got 16gb RAM, a 768gb SSD (with about 150gb free space), and 2.8GHz processor. Everything else is lightening fast on my system. Lightroom is fine otherwise, but the crop tool is almost unusably slow. When I tap "R", it sometimes takes 5-10 seconds to load into crop mode, and another 5-10 seconds to load out of it.
Additionally, it will show the incorrect preview in crop for the first few seconds, so if I go back to re-crop something, it will act as if I am adjusting the cropped version rather than the original, so if I exit too quickly, it comes back wrong.
I've tried what other users recommended - using both full screen and not, updated to the latest version, restarted multiple times with no solution. Please help!I was amazed at the amount of info you put into that post. Thanks for that effort.
I made sure Onyx was up-to-date and ran all the schemes you listed. That did nothing. However, reading further in your support thread gave me some ideas. I started looking into third party extensions and plugins. I recalled installing Silverlight a few days ago, for what reason I have no idea, since I trust Microsoft only marginally more than I trust Google. Which is to say, I don't trust either of them at all. So I threw that plugin into the trash.
I should have checked the performance right there, but I didn't. Right under Silverlight, you mentioned Flash. I decided to check the prefs on it, and found that it was set to allow sites to save info to my computer, and Camera/Mic and Playback were changed from "Block" to "Ask Me". I distinctly remember setting those for maximum privacy. I reset them, cleared all the files, and exited the prefs.
I just checked them again, and everything is changed back to allow Flash to have its way. Looks like I'll be uninstalling that now...
I also installed Acrobat recently, just to have an alternative to Preview. Sea Monkey opened an alert box just now, telling me to watch out for the Acrobat plugins, as they've been known to cause problems. Gotta love Adobe.
Back to the topic at hand, I think it was the Silverlight plugin that caused the slowdown. All my browsers are running at full speed now after I threw that plugin out. (Now if I could just get Safari to allow me to back up a page without re-rendering it every time...)
Thanks very much for the help.

Logic 7.01 - latency, to update or not
Hey everybody, I have Logic Pro 7.01 It is working for me just fine. My question is this though. Does the versions or updates since 7.01 handle plugin latency better. For instance using an effect on UAD-1 card for tracking, like a compressor or amp s
