Crop tool making image disappear

After upgrading to new iMac with OSX 10.8, using the crop tool in PSE 6 makes the image disappear. How to fix?

There must be an option somewhere to "Reset this tool". I haven't used PSE6, so I can't tell you where it is.
But when you select Crop tool, it must be in a dropdown in the crop options.
See if Resetting the tool helps.

Why does my photo file disappear when using the crop tool?

I just cropped my profile photo and the crop tool is now working normally.

  • Crop Tool deletes Image?

The crop tool isnt working. It reduces the image to a gray background and a dot in the center> The whole image disappears.

Usually that means there are some small values in the width, height or resolution boxes.
Resetting the crop tool or hitting the clear button usually gets thing back to normal.
What version of photoshop are you using?

  • Crop Tool Makes Picture Disappear

Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 for MAC.
Anyone else ever seen this? When I select content using the crop tool then hit enter (or the green checkmark) the picture just disappears. This happened all of a sudden a few days ago. I can do COMMAND Z to undo and the picture reappears. But every time I crop the picture disappears and the layer thumbnail just turns brown. Suggestions?

You probably have some small values set in the height, width or resolution fields.
Resetting the Crop Tool by clicking on the small arrow highlighted in red below and clicking on Reset Tool usually corrects the problem.

  • CROP Tool reduces images to a tiny speck!

In the past the CROP tool has worked as it should - crops out unwanted background.  But recently when I try to crop an image it reduces the image to a TINY speck!  You cannot even see the image anymore - just a tiny spot!
WHAT in the world is going on?  I think I must have turned SOMETHING either ON or OFF - but I don't know what?
Does anyone have a clue as to how to resolve this problem and get my CROP tool working correctly again?  Your expertise will be greatly appreciated as I am at my wits end!
    Frustrated in TN!

With the Crop tool activated, look at the controls near the top of the Photoshop main window.  Chances are you have values in the Height and Width fields.  Press the [Clear] button to clear out these fields, and I believe the Crop tool will be restored to the operation you know and love.

  • Cursor problem, changing tool over image, disappearing during use

    Photoshop CS5.1
    Mac Pro, OS 10.8.5
    Wacom tablet and Apple mouse.
Issue is only happening (as far as I can tell) with Photoshop.
Cursor sitting on image, my hand not even touching the mouse or wacom pen, and the cursor is "jumping" between the tool selected (hand tool, healing tool, lasso tec) and the black arrow select tool.
If I zoom in and attempt to use the healing or clone tool, the clone from and clone to tools disappear, so I can't tell where I'm working.
I've reset the tool preset, changed between the wacom tablet and mouse, closed PS, rebooted machine etc, still having the issue.
Assuming the next step is to clear something. Preferences??
    Help appreciated!!
    Thanks!!!!

Just restored Preferences and Tool Preferences. No change.
I also took a quick look at Illustrator and InDesign. While their tool sets are not as dynamic as Photoshops, InDesign did seem to be showing the rapid "jump" between the tool selected and the direct selection tool (the black arrow). It was harder to tell with Illustrator, but it did seem like the issue could be showing up there too (I don't use Illustrator or InDesign very much, so it's tougher to say if the cursor behavior is abnormal there).
As far as I can tell, the cursor is working normally in other apps, but the tool/cursor choices in other apps is nowhere near as extensive or complex as Photoshop. Wondering if there's an overall Adobe Preference that could be causing this?

  • Cropping tool now deletes whole image in Photoshop CS4

Recently the cropping tool has taken to deleting the whole image, no matter what is cropped.  I've been attempting to trim the edges, something that was working just fine a few months ago (now operating under Snow Leopard, so wouldn't be awfully surprised if it was an SL glitch). But...suddenly, for no obvious reason, when I select part or most of an image and then hit return to crop, the entire image disappears and I'm left with nothing.
I've scanned through the preferences but can't find anything related that might be set or checked where it shouldn't be.  Wondering if this is where we throw out the plist and try again; and also if this is a phenomenon others have encountered.
    thanks,
    gf

    Wade,
Sorry I didn't answer your previous post. No, resetting the crop tool, for whatever reason, didn't wipe that 1pixel measurement in Width (and frankly I still don't know when or how it arrived in the first place, but clearly must have been me at some point).  I've used Photoshop for more than a decade and it's the first time I've bunged that up quite so cleverly.  Now you mention it, though, it's odd a reset didn't wipe out that measurement.  Now at least I'll be watching to see if and how it returns.

  • Image rotates when using the crop tool

New to Aperture  my question is when I use the crop tool the image appears to rotate in one direction or the other.  Then of course in limited to the size i can drag out the crop window by the edges of the photo itself.  Any ideas

If you use the straighten tool first and then select the crop tool, Aperture will show the entire image including the parts that were cropped off during the straighten operation. Other than that, can't think of what you are seeing.

  • Why is Lightroom 5 Crop tool so slow?

Having this problem all the time. Sluggish crop tool making it impossible to make fine adjustments. Sole solution is to NOT use the 2nd monitor view. It seems this is causing the problem.
Except I WANT to use the 2nd monitor-option as a part of my workflow.
Using a Macbook Pro Retina 2,3 i7 with 8gb Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB and OSX 10.9 latest version. Surely this config is strong enough?
Secondary monitor is a Lacie324 hooked to the MBP through Apple-HDMI cable.
Help wanted! This is driving me crazy.

    Hi John,
Sorry but no. Still having the problem. Just installed CUDA driver for Mac. Hope this will help. Don't know if LR really takes advantage of this driver though.
Read somewhere to uncheck the "dynamic switching between Graphics Cards" - box in "Systemprefs>energy saving options". But still haven't seen improvements in performance.
Had no response to the issue by anybody else so it's difficult to come up with a solution.

  • Image disappearance upon using crop tool.

Using photoshop elements 6 , OSX 10.5, image disappears after using crop tool.
Have reinstalled software, but no affect. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Barbara... I am wondering if I can still get a bit of help in this topic. I tried that, but the files you mentioned are not in my preferences folder in my library. I am running CS4 on OS X 10.9.5 with a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card(s).in another forum it was mentioned to go to Preferences>Performance>Advanced Settings>Change the drawing mode to 'Basic', but that didn't work. Another said almost the same thing but to check off the Open GL tab... also didn't work... I am at a loss... Can you or anyone else for that matter, help?
    Thanks!

  • Image Breakup when using crop tool

At recent events, operating aperture on a 17" MacBookPro with an extra 23" Apple display, I have image break up after using the crop tool. The image breaks up into quarters, with variable green colours, the image itself disappearing altogether. This occurs after using the crop tool when reselecting the image for further viewing, also on raw and jpeg files, camera a Canon 5d. Anyone else had it, or know a fix without reinstalling?
    David

    chris -
could this be included in the option bar to change the resampling per instance instead of a prefs setting?  I set up some actions to change the prefs for up and down scaling and then revert to the default pref setting. But it was never convenient so I don't use the actions.
or maybe just and pref to use "smart scaling" that chooses the interpolation method based upon whether it is up or down scaling.

  • PS CS4: Crop tool settings disappear as i tab through

I just received a new Macbook Pro laptop from employer, running Mac OS 10.9.4 and have Photoshop CS 4 Extended installed. I've been using PS for decades, last version used was CS2. I've never encountered this before.
In the Crop Tool options at the top left, if I enter 10 inches wide, tab to resolution (leaving vertical clear), the width setting disappears as soon as I enter something for the resolution. Tabbing back to re-enter width, the resolution entry disappears. Back and forth, back and forth. ARRRRGH. This happens if tabbing. i think it happened on a mouse click too but when checking just now mouse click worked ok..
This happens when I focus on only the vertical and resolution settings too.
Anybody else experiencing this? My co-worker right there (pointing left) says his does the same thing (CS4 on previous generation Macbook Pro) but over the past year he's gotten used to it. Is this a new "feature"? What am i missing? I would like to work the old way which doesn't sound unreasonable to me.
    thanks

The crop tool always works like that, even though you enter precise values you can still make the selection as small/big as you like however once you accept the crop it will be the size you specified.
You could try using the Marquee tool, set Style to Fixed Size, enter the values you want and select the area you want to crop(this time it will remain the size you want it to be) and go to Image->Crop.
PPI matters only when printing, low PPI won't give you smaller files, only pixel dimensions count

  • Photshop Elements 9 - Why does image disappears when I crop?

I'm using Photoshop Elements 9 and a bug has started happening - when I try to crop an image and click 'accept', the image just disappears. I cannot stop this happening, so am no longer able to use the crop tool. Do I need to reinstall the product?

You probably have some values entered in the width, height or resolution boxes.
Choose the No Restriction option from the Aspect Ratio menu to clear the values:

  • Cropping: image disappears; how to change mm to points

A couple of issues I don't know how to resolve...One, when I crop an image, the image totally disappears and the window reduces to a tiny square on the screen. there is nothing there, even when enlarged. What is happening and how can it be fixed? The other is a minor annoyance...my font size changed to mm, instead of poitns and I don't know how to change it back. Thanks!

    Hi, Lettergirl!
Your first issue, Cropping, may be a few things, but your crop may be set to a very small value. With your Crop Tool active, take a look at your Options Bar. Are there any values in the text fields? If so, press the reset button on the right, circled below.
As for the second issue, this can be resolved in your preferences. Press Command K to enter your Preferences, then click on Units & Rulers on the left. Now you can change the default Type unit.
Let us know if that helps!

  • CROPPING and SAVING makes images disappear

Cropping and saving makes my images disappear in CS5 Extended

I have Mac OS 10.7.5 and Photoshop CS5 Extended. I cropped both a jpeg and tif file/photo
and then saved it - save as and/or save - and the image disappeared. The only thing that was visible was the file title with .jpeg or.tif extension, and the gray box or outline that goes around the image, but also some of the images the thumbnail image was gone too - just a title was visible on the desktop screen where I saved it. Are these images gone? Where are they? Where did they go and how do I get them back? And why is my crop tool and save doing this and how do I fix it?
I was able to make other corrections like using Curves to photos and saved them with no problem. Just the crop tool does makes the images do this after or before I save it
Thanks for any help you can provide.
