Crop tool remove white margins" fail

I used to use the "remove white margins" option in the crop dialog all the time, to quickly make submitted ad materials easier to import into layouts. Lately it just stopped working. Clicking the option simply does nothing at all. It's as if there were no white margins. This happens on every ad now, not just a few scattered exceptions. Sometimes after restarting it seems like it works normally for a short while, but it inevitably quickly stops functioning again. Has anyone else run into this? New bug? My system only? Any known fix?

In case it helps, this only happens in Acrobat Pro 10. I'm using 9 at home and have no problem with it. Does anyone else use the remove white margins option? You haven't noticed a problem in Acrobat Pro 10?

iCould beta Keynote is very good. Thanks very much for Apple's effort.
However, there is a litter problem that the pdf file shared by iClound Keynote has a white margin. How to remove this white margin? Or any bug there?

No. I checked every page. Top side no white margin. In left and right side, the white margin is about 1mm, and in bottom side the white margin is about 2mm.

  • Creating PDF brochure for printing: Remove white margin

    Hi guys,
I created a brochure in Idesign which has a black background color.
In order to print the brochure I want to create a PDF (with the right order of pages, e.g. page 1 next to page 8, 2 next to 7 etc.) via the "print function".
The page order is not a problem, but unfotunately I always get a white margin although there is no such in the original indesign document.
(When using the normal "export function" of Indesign there is no white margin, but then I cannot create a PDF with the right page order for printing...)
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Best,
    Chris

In order to print with bleed you generally need to print onto a larger sheet and trim. I'm guessing you are trying to print this on a desktop printer of some sort, and unless specifically designed for "borderless" printing they always have a border along the edge that cannont be imaged.

  • Why is Pathfinder crop tool removing items from artboard?

    Hello all,
I have a complexe vector drawing with shapes that pass the artboard. I want to crop the items within the artboard without using a clipping mask. My problem is when I draw a rectangle equal to the artboard, place it on it's own in the top layer, unlock and show all shapes (there are no open paths) and select everything, the results don't give me a proper cropped vector graphic. For some reason, it removes elements from within the artboard and leaves white lines where my paths are....live vapour trails! (there are no transparencies and everything is in RGB)
Here is the before and after of the bottom of the artwork. Any ideas?

    Thanks!!

For some reason, it removes elements from within the artboard
The reason depends on specifically how your paths are drawn.
You should be able to do this:
    1. Position a horizontal guide at the bottom of the Artboard.
    2. Knife Tool: Position cursor outboard of Artboard. Press Alt. Mousedown (snapping to the Guide). ShiftDrag rightward across the bottom of the artwork.
However, that assumes reliable and accurate Snap behavior across the toolset, which Illustrator's isn't.
To avoid figuring out all the caveats of Illustrators very poorly implemented boolean path combination features (so-called Pathfinders):
    1. Rectangle Tool. Draw a rectangle outboard of the Artboard, snapping the top of it to the bottom of the Artboard.
    2. Copy.
    3. ShiftClick one of the paths you want to cut.
    4. Click the "punch" (Subtract) Pathfinder (assuming CS5 or CS4; altClick the same Pathfinder in CS3 and prior.)
    5. PasteInFront. Repeat steps 3 & 4.

  • Removing white space in .pdf files before printing?

Want to remove white margins when printing, which states click on tools/margins,etc. But when I click on tools, nothing changes or comes up differently. So there is no option to eliminate the white margins.
How do I get rid of the white margins before printing?

WHAT/where states you can click on Tools/Margins etc in Adobe Reader? In following advice please be sure to notice the difference between Adobe Reader (free) and Adobe Acrobat ($$).

  • Crop Tool - can you get it to select areas to be removed?

The Crop Tool on my AAX selects the area to be retained.  Can you alter the tool so that it selects the area to be removed instead?
I'm trying to remove just the white space in the middle of a page.  My pages have some lines of text at the top, then white space in the middle, then more text at the bottom. A crop tool that identifies the middle white space and then removes it would be ideal - but there may be other ways?
I'm doing a trial of AAX Pro vs Nitro Pro OCR.

Thanks Bernd, I couldn't find it, and you've now confirmed it isn't there.
Michael asks me "   ... what do you want in the middle, if not white?"  Answer:  take the white out of the middle thus shortening the page.  Bring the footer text upwards to where the white space used to be.
I'm making the pdf equivalent of paper files.  So for example into each pdf I put A4 sized prints of emails, one per page.  Each email has maybe 5 lines of important text, then lots of useless white space, then a footer with additional important text.  I want to remove that central white space.  That would make the page much shorter than A4 but still same width, and retaining the footer text.  So that the file content can be read without loads of wasted space on the screen.
I accept now that the AAX cropping tool can't do what I want.  Nor I think the redaction tool.  But maybe there's another way to get what I want?

  • How can I trap Out- of-Memory data with no crash after Crop Tool fails to finish?

The Photoshop 6 beta program froze while using the crop tool on an image size of 8052x5368. I tried to save a file in another program while waiting for the crop to finish (usually about 1 second) and got an out-of-memory error. I checked the D: driv where the file in the other program was saved. I have a flash C: drive and is not selected in the scratch disk preference. Two scratch disks, E: and G:, are selected with a total of about 800GB free space. After closing PS6Beta, the D: drive recovered about 164GB. The D: drive is not selected in the Scratch Disk list. I work with larger files and anticipate this problem again. How can I trap information for Adobe next time?

The problem remains for how the c: and d: drives were not selected in the scratch disk list. I tried again with only E: and G: drives and the file completed after 20 minutes with a 27.7G file. It would have been an ovious problem if the "info" diaglog box included the projected file size and/or dimensional units (px or in) because I use the dialog for verifying the size of the image. I wanted to make a 300 x400px image rather than a 300x400inch image( 90000x120000px).

  • Removing huge margins and making pdf 2 pages per sheet

    Hi.
I have a fairly long PDF file that has huge margins - the margins are so big that if I were able to crop them out and then put the remaining text area on a landscape page, I could fit 2 of them side by side. (I prefer fitting 2 pages side by side, rather than enlarging the text area to fill a whole page, because that would make my document shorter and would maintain the resolution). That is exactly what I am trying to accomplish.
I was easily able to crop out the margins on all of the pages using the Acrobat cropping tool. Then, I tried to print the document using Adobe PDF printer with the 2 pages per side setting. But, when I do this, it seems to treat the page as though its still 8.5x11 and displays the text side by side as thought it is still on two 8.5x11 pages, even though now the page is smaller. After cropping, the text area left is roughly 4x8, so I should be able to fit two of these areas onto one page side by side.... the question is, how do I do this?
    Thanks

    1. I like a product called Quite Imposing that can do what you want and more.
    2. When you cropped the pdf file, you could try to use the Redaction tool on some white space and then apply the redaction. You will be giving an option to remove hidden information. This will remove everything you cropped out. Now try to do what you wanted as you did it the first time.

  • Can't remove white halo surrounding image.

    Hi, everyone.
I've tried to clean some logos I need to use for web site pages but haven't really had good results. As I save the images as PNG to preserve the transparent background and place the images on my web page I can clearly see a white halo or silhouette surround the borders of the image. Just so that you understand my workflow this is what I have tried:
    1. Open the image in photoshop.
    2. Set background layer to a regular layer so I can remove the background color.
    3. Choose Magic Wand. Set the sensitivity to a value between 50 and 120 to choose all background color which is white. Also uncheck contiguous so all the background color is removed despite its location on the image.
    4. Crop image to close in on logo.
    5. Resize image to a resolution of 96 pixels per inch and width of 120-140 pixels (height can vary according to the image).
    6. Save for Web using PNG-8 as file format and the best quality available from the 4-up panel. In the cases I tried it translated to 256 colors Custom Palette and 0% ditter.
Result was disappointing as I expected a clean image for my web pages.
How can this be resolved ? What am I doing wrong ?
Does this have anything to do with the Save For Web command or is it related to something in my workflow ?
    TIA
    Joe

    Hi, Chris.
Thank you for your replies to my post and the detailed explanations. I have now been able to produce good images that I can use.
Let me see if I understand this right. After an image is selected and the background erased, the matte or background becomes transparent. According to your comment:
    > it only removes some leftover color contamination from the partially transparent pixels
the pixels can be partially transparent. From a reply posted to another thread I user described the differences between PNG-8 and PNG-24 in Photoshop. According to him Photoshop PNG-8 only allows pixels to be either fully transparent or fully opaque. Considering your statement about pixels being partially transparent, I assume then that erasing the background in a TIFF image will produce a file type that (similar to PNG-24) also supports partial pixel transparency as is the case with PNG-24. Is this correct ? What temporary file would this be (the one used by Photoshop until you decide to save your work) ?
So is this also safe to assume that defringe and remove white matte wouldn't work on PNG-8 images since these don't support partial transparency ?
And one last question: How does it work following your above explanation ? In removing the leftover color contamination from the partially transparent pixels, does Photoshop with either the defringe or the remove white matte tool transforms the partially transparent pixels and fully transparent ones ?
Just trying to understand the process so I can make better choices the next time.
    Thanks again,
    Joe

  • ID 5.5 Interact. PDF, cannot remove white background for Multi-States and buttons.

    Hi
I am working on an Interactive PDF Portfolio document. The problem I have is with Multi-State object feature with several buttons going to states that need to be exported as a SWF and imported back into InDesign 5.5. See, the background of my entire doc. is GREY, but when I import the SWF (as directed in Lynda.com videos correctly) and export the entire doc as Interactive PDF and view it in Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 10.1.1) is when all the trouble starts.
When I try to get rid of the WHITE background around the Multi-State objects and the buttons for them (using Select Object Tool and then control+click on it to change the Properties to Transparent Background Appearance) it does not change, even when I go forward and backward to the page.
Does the option of removing white background and making it transparent work only for Animation, but not Multi-State feature with buttons?
Can anyone suggest any other tecnique to create a nice slide show that works in Interactive PDF in ID CS5.5? Please..
    Sincerely,
    in need of help,
    Eve

I have 8 Multi-State objects in one stack on the left and the 8 buttons for each state in the stack on the right. The background of my document is dark grey. There is space inbetween Multi-State objects and the buttons that show the grey background. But after exporting as SWF the Multi-States together with the buttons and placing the SWF back in the PDF file, the space inbetween Multi-States and buttons that is supposed to show the grey background appears white. The problem is that I cannot even change this white background to transparent in Acrobat Pro, as well. I used to do that to animations and it worked, but not in this case.

  • Crop tool won't drag with CC Photoshop 2014

I have searched everywhere and talked with Adobe support through chat (they ended that abruptly??!), and Twitter and still have not had any resolution to this. I hope someone can help.
I'm trying to do a simple crop. I've done it a million times with no problems BEFORE CC 2014.
I select the crop tool and try to drag but it always stops immediately and selects the entire image as the Crop Preview.
    I've tried:
    using "Classic Mode"
    different Ratios/Resolutions
    uninstalling/re-installing
installing the latest update - but that always fails. - I'll even completely uninstall, then when it goes to re-install it will install the one file (after a million attempts at failing to download it) and then fail on an update that it tries to install. I've tried at least 20 times. AT LEAST!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!  Could it be my NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS? (I know that's not the reason for the failed downloads from Adobe servers - that's all on them.)

I have spent a week trying to get this to work and now it just started working for all images. I have NO idea why.
    Here's what I did:
    1. uninstalled NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS drivers and reinstalled them
    2. uninstalled CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
    3. clean install of CC Photoshop 2014 (2x)
    4. installed update (took dozens of tries before this actually downloaded and installed successfully unfortunately)
    5. clicked on the crop tool and tried to drag... nothing happened
    6. waited, waited and waited.. went about my other work and forgot about it and then after about 5 minutes the crop box appeared. I was able to adjust it too.
No idea but I'm happy now.

  • Why is the crop tool in Lightroom 5 so sluggish on my otherwise very fast machine?

I'm running a Macbook Pro Retina, new from this time last year.  It's got 16gb RAM, a 768gb SSD (with about 150gb free space), and 2.8GHz processor.  Everything else is lightening fast on my system.  Lightroom is fine otherwise, but the crop tool is almost unusably slow.  When I tap "R", it sometimes takes 5-10 seconds to load into crop mode, and another 5-10 seconds to load out of it.
Additionally, it will show the incorrect preview in crop for the first few seconds, so if I go back to re-crop something, it will act as if I am adjusting the cropped version rather than the original, so if I exit too quickly, it comes back wrong.
I've tried what other users recommended - using both full screen and not, updated to the latest version, restarted multiple times with no solution.  Please help!

I was amazed at the amount of info you put into that post. Thanks for that effort.
I made sure Onyx was up-to-date and ran all the schemes you listed. That did nothing. However, reading further in your support thread gave me some ideas. I started looking into third party extensions and plugins. I recalled installing Silverlight a few days ago, for what reason I have no idea, since I trust Microsoft only marginally more than I trust Google. Which is to say, I don't trust either of them at all. So I threw that plugin into the trash.
I should have checked the performance right there, but I didn't. Right under Silverlight, you mentioned Flash. I decided to check the prefs on it, and found that it was set to allow sites to save info to my computer, and Camera/Mic and Playback were changed from "Block" to "Ask Me". I distinctly remember setting those for maximum privacy. I reset them, cleared all the files, and exited the prefs.
I just checked them again, and everything is changed back to allow Flash to have its way. Looks like I'll be uninstalling that now...
I also installed Acrobat recently, just to have an alternative to Preview. Sea Monkey opened an alert box just now, telling me to watch out for the Acrobat plugins, as they've been known to cause problems. Gotta love Adobe.
Back to the topic at hand, I think it was the Silverlight plugin that caused the slowdown. All my browsers are running at full speed now after I threw that plugin out. (Now if I could just get Safari to allow me to back up a page without re-rendering it every time...)
Thanks very much for the help.

  • Cropping Layers with Crop Tool in Photoshop CC 2014?

I have been trying to find out if the crop tool can be used in Photoshop CC 2014 to crop layers individually rather than the entire file, and I am not finding any answers through any searches. I can't even find a standard Abode How-to for cropping in the CC version. Is the Marquee tool still the only (best) way to crop an individual layer?
Also, I have been looking at a crop tool tutorial for the CC version that seems a bit opaque to me in the way it's written (Adobe Photoshop CC for Photographers), and it refers to a Crop options fly-out menu, but I can't find any way to access this.

The Crop tool is not designed for the job you would like done. As you have seen, it crops the entire image.
Instead, use the Rectangular Marquee tool to frame the area you would like to maintain. (Sample 1)
Then choose Select > Inverse. It will select the area to be removed.
Then tap the Delete key. Result is Sample 2)

  • PhotoShop Elements 9 Crop Tool is a total failure!

I do a fair amount of work that involves a lot of croping, mainly for animation sequencing. The Crop tool Custom Height and Width settings do NOT WORK.
I usually have a test image of the exact size that I work in. Example: 500 x100 pixels. This converts to 13.23cm x 2.65 cm at 96dpi. When I type these Crop Size requirements into the Crop tool settings box, I get a crop size way outside the size of the image that I want to crop. There is no way to set that size up yourself by using a test image as a template. In fact there is no way to set up custom sizes in the menu at all! I find this to be very upsetting as I have only just purchased this product. This limitation is something that I would expext to find in freeware, but not in a program like PhotoShop Elements 9. I have tried every conceivable way to try to get the Crop Tool to work to a Pre Set size with no success.
Why is it that a graphics program will not allow you to put in a pixel x pixel measurement? That is pure stupidity on the part of the programmers and very poor work on the part of the testing team. No wonder the program itself crashes from time to time. It just stops running - ppffft! I have a state of the art 64 bit system running Win 7 with plenty of RAM and a High end Graphics Card, so I know that my system is not at fault - it's PhotoShop 9. I cannot believe the primative workspace and the lack of the ability to custom predefine tools. All in all I'm extremely unhappy with PE9.
If anyone has had this or similar issues and has found a solution please tell me what it is.

In answer to your remark I will go through the whole process again at a later date and re-post. It does not make any difference to the resultant Crop size whether you input cm or pixels. Here's a point for you though since you mentioned it. Check out the Ruler - does it look like the Crop is anywhere near 500cm x 100cm? Maybe you were so busy trying to find fault that you failed to see the forest for the trees?
I only find fault where it exists - not where it doesn't. As far as Forums go, I am a member of a few Forums and have not had this sort of problem with answers before where the reply posts tend toward trying to pretend a problem doesn't exist or trying to prove fault with the poster. Hmmm.  Again I wonder how many of these reply's are from people with some affiliation with Adobe?
I will finish by saying that just for you I will go through the whole pointless exercise again and make sure that the Pixels are indeed input.
    1. Opening File
    2. File Open.
    3. Resetting Crop Tool.
    4. Crop Tool reset and Measurement Boxes clear.
5.First Measurement Input. PLEASE NOTE 500 Pixels Input!
    6. Second Measurement Input. PLEASE NOTE 100 Pixels Input!
    7. Third Criteria Input. PLEASE NOTE 96dpi Input!
    8. All Input Data correct and ready to Crop to preset Width/Height/Dpi restrictions.
    9. OH DEAR IT DOESN'T WORK! Again it fails to give me a simple 500x100 pixel at 96dpi Crop Box!
After this reply post you may just get some idea of the frustration I am experiencing. As you can plainly see the Crop Box drawn goes to the very edges of the Image to be Cropped. Can you see the problem now? Maybe I should just go with my friend's suggestions and take a video of the process and post it on YouTube? Then go to my local Consumer Affairs Department! If you can find what I am supposedly doing wrong - please elucidate as I have followed both the prescribed steps in the somewhat Shoddy Online Help and also the suggested remedies posted on the Forum. All to no avail. It just Won't Work!

  • How do I make the crop tool work?

Okay, The image is in adjustment view. It has a white border around it. I checked the box that says crop on it. I hover the cursor over the corners. The cursor does not change to crop tool. When I press on the crop icon it beeps a reject sound. Not sure how to phrase that. New to Aperture. Help

There is no "adjustment view" in Aperture.
What happens if you double-click the image with the selection box around it?  That should take you from the Browser to the Viewer.  Then, in the Crop Brick, click the little "cropping corners" icon, and you should be able to crop.
"c" is the shortcut for bringing up the crop tool when you are in the Viewer.  Notice that the tools in the toolstrip (on the bottom border of the viewing area) change depending on whether you are using the Browser or the Viewer.
Strongly suggest reading the first seven chapters of the User Manual.  Aperture is a rich and complex continent, mostly submerged.  The first seven chapters provide a guide to the flora and fauna, as well as a map.
