Cropping a split audio file

Once an audio file is split how can I crop it?
If I do a usual crop it crops the movie but not the audio! Obviously, I need to crop both audio and video, but how?
Thanx,
tc

*If I drag along the blank area where there is no content, but still timeline, the song gets selected.*
This is normal. iMovie has non-destructive editing. When you split your audio clip and then deleted the last part, you weren't really deleting it. If you deselect Show Clip Volume Levels in the View menu, you can place your cursor arrow on the edge of the remaining part of the split audio clip and drag it out to full length again. So, when you place your arrow and drag in the seemingly empty time line in the area once occupied by the "deleted" portion of the clip, the remaining clip will select. But if you move your arrow farther down the empty time line, beyond the area once occupied by the deleted portion of the split clip, then the remaining portion of the split clip will not select.
*But, I still have a video that is as long as the audio was.*
Forgive me, but I still don't understand what you are describing here or what the problem is. Can you describe in more detail what you are seeing and how it is adversly affecting your movie. As I understand it, your audio extended beyond the last video clip, so you split the audio clip at the point where the video ended, and deleted the last part of the audio. That should leave you with the video and audio clips ending at the same spot in the time line. Are you seeing something different? Or did you do something different?

  • How to crop an image/audio file

i have a component where in i need to crop an image and simultaneously crop the audio file.Is there a way to do that? Can anyone help me with it?

I'm looking for the same thing.
An audio file recorded by logic audio (AIFC, not AIFF, if this makes a difference) can be transposed non destructively in the arrange window (without the time machine) by checking "follow" in the arrange window, you can adjust the transposition from -12 to +12.
When you do this, a double arrow icon is added to the audio region in the arrange window (like in this example : http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6530/image17dp1.jpg)
I can't find the way do this with a regular aiff file (non recorded via logic, I mean).

  • Splitting audio files of more than 2 gigabytes

    Hi,
I've a huge audio file I want to split. Is there any kind of utility that let me complete this task?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards.

What format audio file? 2GB is very large for audio and my experience (albeit with older computers) is programs tend to baulk at things that large.
Audacity is a freeware program. The problem you may encounter is if the audio is in some compressed format a utility might want to uncompress it to open it and then recompress it to save it. This double compression will result in quality loss. This is why I asked about format.

  • Split audio file according to cue positions, in Audition

    Hello,
I have an audio file that contains several songs one after the other. I'd like to separate each song into its own audio file.
Question 1: is there a way in Audition to add cue points (as if pressing the F8 key) automatically, based on a certain "silence" criterion, e.g. at least 200ms of pure silence?
Question 2: assuming there is no solution for question 1, and that all cues are inserted manually, is there a way to automatically save the contents between two consecutive cues as a separate audio file, i.e. without manually having to make each selection and use the Save Selection command?
    Many thanks!

With your file open in the Editor, open the Diagnostics panel from the Window menu.  Select "Mark Audio" for the Effect setting and click Settings to expose the parameters.  Here, you can configure how quiet the signal must be to be considered silence, and for how long, as well as the same for defining what's an audio signal.  Or Click "Find Levels" and let Audition take it's best guess.
Click "Mark All" and it should execute immediately.  If you need to adjust any markers, you can do so now.  Finally, open the Markers panel, select all of the markers that were created, right-click and choose "Export Audio of Selected Range Markers" and it should enable you to write each track to disk.

  • HT201066 How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?

    Hi,
How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?
With Windows I was using Nero software, which is not available for Mac. Is there any similar app for free for Mac?
    Thanks!

    Hello ingiorgio
You can import the track into GarageBand and then split the tracks there. Once that it is done you can highlight the ruler section and then share the song to iTunes to get them separated out.

  • Trying to split one large audio file into tracks

    Hi;
Awhile ago I mistakenly imported a CD into iTunes, as one large audio file, containing all 10 tracks. Now I'd like to know how to split this file back into it's separate tracks, and re-import into iTunes.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA.

MP3 editor is a lossless editor for MP3 files.
-> Fission, will do lossles editing of AIFF, WAV, MP3, AAc and Apple Lossless.
You can do it yourself but the songs will be re-encoded (not lossless) but may not be a big deal.
On the song, right click - get info. Click the Options tab and set the Start-Stop times for the first song.
Then select the song, menu Advanced - Create AAC version {or whatever is selected in iTunes prefs -General - Importing}.
This will create a new copy of the song between the time markers. Select the new song, righ click - get info and update the song title.
Then on the original song, set Start-Stop times for the second song and menu Advanced - Create AAC version the for the 2nd song.
Do this for all the songs in the original file.

  • How to split up an audio file?

What is the most straightforward way to split .aiff and mp3 files, without losing quality, using aural and visual (waveform) cues and then save the split-up files? The idea is to split a long file with multiple tracks into individual songs.

    FYI:--
I couldn't try GarageBand because some or the other of its libraries was missing or damaged. I have Roxio's Toast and looked into the apps but they -- like AudioX -- are a slick GUI and bells & whistles fronting minimal functionality. Audacity, however, is exactly the reverse: a bare-bones GUI fronting a 100 horsepower app with relatively vast breadth and depth of functionality. Highly recommended.

  • Splitting Audio From Video from one video file

I used to use cs4 and when i had a video and dragged it onto the timeline you could right click and unlink the audio from the video.
i now have cs5 and when i click unlink nothing happens, is there another way to do this or atleast somehow mute the audio in the video clip?

well i had just realized that premiere pro is sticking my audio files in the fifth audio column. but it wont allow my to move it to audio one, do you know how i could do that?
This is due to the differences in channel-count between your Audio Stream, and those other Audio Tracks. PrPro requires that the channel-count match. See this ARTICLE for more details.
Good luck, and hope that explains why you see, what you see.

  • Icon size for audio file insert on a PDF page.

    Acrobate X V10.1.9 Windows 7.
I wish to insert an audio file on a pdf page. I select "multimedia", "sound". Get the window to select the file. Once selected I then find that I cannot size the icon that appears on the page (click to play). The two fields are grayed out. If I click "OK" it results in a very large "click to play" icon. I cannot resize the icon on the page..
Does this function require C++? Have been getting an error message on PC startup about something being in error. I click OK and all seems to be working ok.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Joe

You can crop it, but the size will not change to letter. However, after cropping, you can print with expand to fit page selected. If you like you can expand this to a new PDF using print, though not generally the recommended approach. Do you have any idea how it was reduced in the first place? If so, have you tried the reverse process?

  • Adding an effect to a portion of an audio file?

    Hello,
For years now I've been using FCP and when STP was first released it seemed wonderful, but very convoluted, so I ended up doing all my audio mixing within FCP.
Recently I've decided to really nail STP and get it incorporated into my workflow, but the old frustrations have appeared immediately, which is why I never continued using it originally.
One problem I'm encountering is this:
I have a recording of a band, which when I open in STP appears on one long timeline. I've added markers where the songs stop/start etc, and deleted bits between the songs. When I save this file I can open it in a project file.
I then use 'S' to split the main track, chopping up the songs and placing them in their own tracks.
My confusion arises when I want to add a touch of reverb to one song.
If i highlight one song on a track, and go to Process>Effects>Reverb/Delay, non of the options are selectable, so I double-click the audio clip/waveform on a track and it opens in the audio timeline (no separate tracks, just 2 large waveforms Left&Right), here I can apply the reverb to the audio file, but it applies the effect to the whole audio file (1 hour long) not the individual song I want.
So... I can drag the playhead to make a selection with the master audio file, ie, select the individual song, and apply the reverb.
Is this the correct workflow? It seems like quite a convoluted process just to add a touch of reverb to one song on my master timeline with all the different tracks.

You shouldn't apply the process to the file, because as you've discovered it will affect all of the other regions of the file in your project.
Either add a reverb to each individual track in the mixer, or better yet to save on resources Add a Bus. On the Bus insert a Reverb. Now on any of the audio tracks you can Add a Send. By adjusting the level of the send of the signal from any channel to the Bus with the reverb you can add as much or as little as you like to each individual track.

  • How do I save a specific layer as an audio file

I needed a second audio file and created a layer and placed my video file that has the audio I want in that layer.  I edited the audio in that layer and now I want to save the result as an audio file.. preferably an MP3 file. How do I select a specific layer and save just that layer as an audio file?

I would think  with Photoshop you may be able to save it as a video mp4 file then find a Video splitter program to split out the audio.  Or use and Audio program in the first place rather the using a program like photoshop that can do some basic video editing.

  • Long audio files (18 hrs. +) not loading fully in iTunes

    Hi all-
Here's a question I haven't seen posted before. I have a set of mp3 files that were recorded from some online radio shows that I wanted to preserve for my own listening use. These were recorded on my Mac Pro Tower (currently running 10.8.2) using Wiretap Pro software. These are all varying lengths, but they are all at least 18 hrs. long (128 kbps), so yes, they are pretty large files. I can play them just fine on my system using Quicktime Player. However, a strange thing happens when I try to import them into iTunes. No matter what the actual length of the file is, the total time that displays in iTunes is 13:31:36. When I try to play any of the files, they just stop / get cut off at the 13:31:36 mark. Does anyone know why this is happening? Does iTunes have some arbitrary time limit for audio files that it can process and play? If there is, I suppose I could break up the files into lengths that are shorter than 13:31:36, but I really would prefer to keep the files the full lengths that they are.
An additional twist: as I was writing this, I decided to import a few of these files onto my new iPhone 5 to see what would happen. Again, the time displayed for the files both in iTunes on my Mac (looking at the My iPhone panel), and on the iPhone itself (in the song listing) is 13:31:36. HOWEVER, when I go into the Music Player on the iPhone, and play the file, the entire file length DOES display properly in the "time slider" at the top of the player screen, and it does seem like the entire file will play correctly all the way to the end. I'm happy about this, but still confused about the 13:31:36 time limit in the Mac iTunes.
Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Here's a question I haven't seen posted before.
Likely the reason you haven't and why you also got no reply to your other post yesterday is probably extremely few people have recordings that long.
I have no idea if this is an iTunes limitation (not having an 18 hour track).  Don't forget iTunes is likely primarily designed to play your 3-4 minute track purchased from the iTunes Store and anything after that is incidental support.  It is possible they didn't even test it with a file that long.  Try transcoding to  different format, or even to the same format but using a different encoder, and see if you have the same problem (no, this isn't ideal but you are the one with the 18 hour tracks and the idea is to see if it will play in any format).  There are small differences in mp3 encoders and you may be making one that iTunes doesn't like. If you have the same problem then you'll just have to live with it or split the file into smaller segments.

  • Seperate audio files...

Hallo Everyone and Happy New Year!
Just after a spot of advice:
Is there any cost in performance if I capture to seperate video and audio files?
Are there any real watch-out points you'd like to share with me?
I'd like the flexibility in media management that working with split files would give me.
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    Jim

DV has a terrible time of playing back audio/video captures if they are separate files. If you're not working in DV, then it's OK... but I really don't think you gain enough to bother with it. The idea would be to be able to dump large video files, but keep all audio files (which are much smaller) in a large offline/online workflow. I abandoned this practice a long time ago when drives got less expensive, and the price of media storage wasn't as big an issue. But that's the only "gain" there is if you capture as separate files.

  • How can I get right and left channels out of an interleaved audio file?

Hi, everyone, I'm still on Logic 8))))So, have a question))I need to split a stereo audio file into two mono left and right channels, I could do it in audio editors, and somehow dunno how to do it in Logic...Anyone can help?

Do a long click on the mono-stereo button of the audio track. From the flipmenu, choose L.
Copy the Region to another track.
From that other track's mono-stereo button flipmenu, choose R.
Voila, direct access to left and right channels.

  • Spltting an MP3 song or other audio files. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, guys. I dont even know if I am discussing this under the right category but I hope someone can help. I have a Mac Pro, which I just acquired. I have been used to Window PCs all my life. I am trying to see if there is a way I can split a large audio file (MP3 song) into a smaller clip on the Mac. I don't even mind if this means I have to download an additional program. I am trying to use an audio track I already converted into an MP3 version as a ring tone on my phone. But I don't like the way the song starts from the beginning. I am trying to create a 1-minute audio clip out of the long track and use that. I'll appreciate all the advice I can get.

hey there Dr. Tee & welcome to Discussions.
you could try to do this w/ GarageBand. open GB, import or drag in the file, cut out the parts you don't want, from Toolbar menu, "Share" ringtone to iTunes.
    good luck.
