Cropping in Photoshop 3

Good Morning members.
New to this product, so any help will be appreciated.
I have a snow scene photograph which I have scanned on my HP combined Printer/Scanner via the acquire option in Photoshop 3. My OS is XP
The photograph is rectangular in shape, but is in thirds, from left to right, with 2 white areas approximately quarter of an inch wide separating the thirds.
My idea is to crop out the white areas to then move all 3 thirds to form one complete picture
How can this be done please?

Robert,
The two products are not comparable. Elements is an editing tool with
"album" bundled into it... Album is a cataloging tool with a handful of
editing tools... and that is it. Album 3 SE has fewer tools than Album 2.
FWIW, the original is not changed. These products both make a copy when
editing and you have to manually shut this off to change it.
Cheers

  • Cropping in Photoshop / Viewing in Lightroom

I created a special crop in Photoshop then saved as a PSD. When I view it in Lightroom it distorts to the window shape.
It also distorts when creating a Web Gallery.
    What to do?

Nope wrong hread. You would be better off the start a new one with a tite reflecting you question re: split toning, even thought the subject was brought up here, this thread is more about cropping and veiwing he crop as the title says.

  • IMovie 8 won't let me put pictures in once cropped through photoshop

HELP HELP HELP, I have to get a video done in 2 days. We scanned in all the pictures, I cropped them and renamed them and saved as jpegs. This I have done for years, however, installed the new iLife 8...and iMovie sees the pictures at the bottom right, but when I try and put them in the timeline, I get black screen. Now its not all of them, 3 quarters of them are like that.... but a few work (I can see the shots)...what in the world is going on. It will take pictures from my camera (and if I don't crop in photoshop, work fine. I have checked properties, they are the same, RGB, 8 channel, compression at high, 300 dpi (since they are scanned in so small). PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

They are scanned in at 300 dpi
Was actually asking about the "dimensions." Have had problems scaling super sized videos and photos. Photos are normally stored at max on the order 1620x1080 for landscape and 720x1080 for portraits. (Or at least that is how my 6.3 megapixel files are stored.) However, have ended up with a "black" screen with some (i think they were) 10 megapixel files. Never did find out why. Similar thing happened when I tried to embed a 2x2 matrix of HD video in a single QT player in an attempt to compare the source file with three differently compressed exports. Does not appear to have anything to do with your problem though.

  • Crop like Photoshop

I'm about halfway through editing my first project on Aperture. I love it.
However, when I import images into Photoshop for further editing, anything previously cropped in Aperture has the same aspect ratio but the pixel dimensions are smaller.
Whenever I used to crop in Photoshop, the aspect ratio AND pixel dimensions were preserved. This doesn't seem to be the case with Aperture. So it seems I'm going to end up send a bunch of images to my client that have the same aspect ratio but are all different sizes.
I've tried custom crops etc in Aperture and these also seem to constrain the aspect ratio but not the pixel dimensions.
Can anyone please let me know how to preserve pixel dimensions using the crop tool in Aperture?
    Thank you!
    Rich

    Richard,
I my experience, resampling (what the interpolation is called in PS) is not a function of the Crop tool, but of the Resize function? When I was using Photoshop, without Aperture, I would seldom, if ever, resample when sizing for a print size, even after cropping, because my images were from a camera that gave me a lot of pixels, and resampling would actually remove pixels for me.
Resampling to upscale a photo is always questionable, because PS is only guessing at what the "invented pixels" should be, and you might lose detail.
When you Export from Aperture, you have chosen the the PPI to use, but not the ultimate print size -- that would be determined later in the app controlling the printing.
Btw, I good explanation of resizing vs cropping is found at:

Have I missed a shortcut between the Crop tool and Resampling?

  • New Problem with cropping in Photoshop Elements 8.0

I use adobe photoshop elements 8 for years already and it has worked perfectly up until now. When I crop a picture instead of it cropping when I click on the check mark (as in the past) it reduces it to a small window with just gray in it....no reduced picture at all. Did a setting get thrown off or something? Help is appreciated!

At the far left end of the options bar is a tiny triangle. Click it and choose Reset Tool from the popout menu.

  • Cropping in Photoshop CS6

In Photoshop CS6, the moment you select the Crop Tool, a "cropping bounding box" appears instantly over the image.
This didn't happen in CS5. In CS5 I would be able to click and start dragging the Crop Tool 'outside' the image and then drag into it so that my "cropping bounding box" (don't know what to call it) would snap to the edges of the image.
In CS6, since this box is automatically there already over the entire image, clicking outside the image invokes some unwanted rotation action which is very annoying.
Does anyone know if there is a way to switch this behavior off?
(This happens when Classic Mode is on or off.)

I think you'll lovee it once you get used to it.

  • Cropping in Photoshop CS5 (Mac)

The crop tool in Photoshop CS 5 (Mac) is actually strange.  When I click it to crop, it crops as if it is just doing one pixel rather than the actual crop area.  Once cropped there is nothing but a tiny blob of colour.  I looked for preferences in the preferences folder but there was none - there were for other CS 5 applications.  I've restarted Photoshop several times with no success.
    Any ideas?

This has nothing to do with the version of Photoshop.  The crop tool is fine; it's just user error.
Look at the options bar when you have the Crop Tool selected:  you have some weird value(s) entered there.  Just click on the "Clear" button at the right-hand side of the said Options Bar:

  • Cropping/scrapbooking/photoshop 10 question

I do a lot of scrapbooking using photoshop and I recently upgraded from photoshop 6 to photoshop elements 10. With my old program, I could drop a photo onto the page and using the move tool I could change the size of the photo by dragging the top down or the sides over. I could make a 4x6 into a perfect square and the photo would look normal. With my new program, I do the same thing and the photo lookes squished. Instead of cropping out some of the photo to make it fit into the space I want it to fit in, it just squishes the whole picture over to allow it to all fit into the space. How do I get it to stop doing that? I have tried everything I can think of and it just keeps doing the same thing. I am thinking I liked the 6.0 version better!

I just click new, make a blank 12x12 page and use digital scrapbooking elements and papers to create my page. I do not use the create function at all. Then I just add the photos onto the page, move them to where I want them, and save. I just don't have the freedom to move them the way I did with photoshop 6.0. But that was for p.c. and I just bought a mac so I had to upgrade becsause my old software wasn't compatible. Thanks for trying to help me! I guess I will just have to get used to doing it another way

  • Cropped in Photoshop but saved file can't be seen in iPhoto browser??

iPhoto Preferences > General > Edit photo: > in Adobe Photoshop CS4
When I open an image in iPhoto, and right click to open in external editor, then crop the photo and Save As, the cropped image does not show up when I browse iPhoto. When I command-click the title of the PS file, however, it shows me that the cropped file actually exists inside the exact iPhoto folder where the original picture is.
I am having trouble understanding the basic idea of how iPhoto's library works and how PS CS4 interacts when you save an image.
I want to keep using iPhoto as my one and only library, but this kind of behavior is crazy making. Can someone shed some light, or point me towards the right thread?
    Thanks!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Vbscript crop() with photoshop

    Hi Guys,
can someone helps me about method crop() with vbscript.
    I never get it work..
    Set app = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
         set idoc = app.ActiveDocument
    idoc.Crop( Array(25,0,125,100),0,100,100,72)
    Than you for help.

On many versions of Photoshop there is a folder that has examples, this is in the application - scripting - sample scripts.
This is the example for crop using vbs.

' This script will iterate through all of the layers of a document. If the

  • Why is the file size increasing when cropping in Photoshop CC?

While cropping a picture the file size is increasing dramatically.
An image 7360 X 4912 px (Image size : 103,4M) after cropping to 60 X 40 cm 300 px, goes up to an image of 18000 X 12000 px (Image size : 618,0 M). And the computer is unable to cope with such a file...
It wasn't like that when I first started to use the program.
I crop the same image using CS5 and the result is an image of 7087 X 4724 px (Image size : 95,8 M) which is normal...
    Will aprreciate help...

Thanks for replying. First I didn't have this problem in the beginning. I do the same in CS5 and I can do it with no problem.

  • Cropping in Photoshop Elements 12

I would like to be able to create and save for future use my preferred cropping sizes.
PE12 provides several standard cropping sizes eg. 3x5, 16x9, 8x10 etc. and the option of a custom size.
I would like to save a custom size for future use eg. 16x10 or add my custom size to the drop down list of standard cropping sizes.
I have checked the installation options and preferences and not been able to find a way to do this.
I am tech-savvy and would be prepared to add my custom cropping sizes to an installion file if that is a way of achieving a solution.
    Regards.....Peter

    Hi,
Try switching to Media view and then go to Find -> By Details.
Set the field to People and select the persons name.
You add further people by clicking on the + sign
The two options above the search criteria allow you to select all photos containing at least one or only ones with all of your selections.
The search can be saved in case you want to repeat it a later time.
    Hope that helps

  • Straighten & crop in Photoshop action

I must straighten & crop a numer of pics which I would like to do with a ps action. My problem: I cannot place the ruler within an action to get the individually selected angle for straightening. Is there a solution?

You could make the crop and straighten part of the action something like this:
    1. Use the insert menu item from the actions panel flyout menu and when the dialog appears,
go to Analysis>Ruler Tool, select it and click ok in the insert menu dialog.
    2. To get a pause in the action so you can draw out the ruler tool, use the
Playback Options from the actions panel flyout menu and set to
Pause For and the number of seconds you need to draw out the ruler.
Then use the Playback Options again, set to Accelerated.
    3.  Draw out the Ruler Tool and select the Straighten button from the tool options bar.

I made 15 moves in srop mode in photoshop and i cant get my original file back,

    Check this Man
History has an option on the 'Hostory pallet's bottom status icons' which says, create new document from current state - which brins up a new branch of that pirticular history layer with the layer name, and that branch in the history can go on straight - once we get the required results bring back the layer to the 'history continues'.
    Keep up the good work

  • Non destructive crop preserved when you "Edit in Photoshop"

I hope that there would be an option in the future to crop an image in lightroom, then when you open to "edit in photoshop" the image would be cropped using photoshop new non destructive crop. So that i can tweak color and retouch the whole image then close and i can do final cropping back in LR.

Sometimes, people crop pictures in LR before making many adjustments just to see if the image works, then go on to the next image etc... then batch export to psd or even edit in PS one by one to retouch. Its painstaking to make a virtual copy, reset the crop, export/edit in psd, then copy the original crop from the master raw, then paste it to the psd file. Another way, adobe can make this work is to have an option to have "Edit in Photoshop" command to not apply the crop from LR. Open the full image, then when it imports it back to LR have LR apply the non destructive crop.
