Cropping Issue in CS6

On my installation of PS CS6, cropping an image to any proportion except Unconstrained or 1 x 1 is not possible. No matter what settings I use, the results as worthless. I never had this issue in CS5 and frankly, that tool worked just fine and why in the world some bozo had to change the functionality of the Crop Tool in CS6 is beyond me.

Using Classic merely changes the way the cropping box operates, nothing else. The true Classic Cropping  does not immediately set a crop box on the image, you have to do it in the basic style of a pair of cropping Ls, set to run simultaneously rather than individually, which was pretty klutzy in analog days.
My basic objections are three fold:
1)Setting the crop centered will have the effect of "suggesting" that this is the proper procedure in cropping when only the proportions are being changed. This is only true for a square crop, but even there, the true center of the best crop may not be in the center of the uncropped image. For all other crops, the starting place is with the edge of the crop at the edge of the image. Usually one edge placement is far better than the other one (Left instead of right etc). I learned this trick from a graphic designer noted for his ability to grab the best out of a crop.
2) The cropping ants don't go away when clicking the check mark ok, giving rise to the impression something has been left undone. You have to selesct another tool to see them disappear. And, if you use Enter instead of the Check Mark, then try for a different tool, the "Crop Box choice appears. To get around that, Enter has to be hit twice.
3) If the Crop Tool is selected while opening a new doc, it automatically appears cropped! Whut? This is not helpful at all, and is probably the most noxious aspect of the new Crop. When I first see an image, first impressions count hugely, and now the fist thing I may see is the cropped to center version of whatever proportion last used. NO! I want to engage the marching ants when I click on the image, and not before. It is mitigated by unclicking "Enable Crop Shield", but still not acceptable because it involves way too many clicks for ordinary work.
Perhaps a Custom setup connected to ones Workspace that can set all these from the defaults to what you like needs to be implemented. I can tell you that as it stands, it greatly slows down my operations.
Some minor points about the Crop: Why is there both an Icon and  Straighten included as options? What does clicking on View supposed to do, and finally changing the behavior of the Overlay options does not occur when first opening a document until you click the Ratio Dialog. That actually is fine, but please include the crop marks as well. Having the Crop tool selected when opening the document should not automatically include the crop marks.
But then, I've been doing photography a very long time and perhaps should retire from the scene.

  • Pen pressure issues with CS6

So, I'm having an odd issue with my tablet and its pressure sensitivity with CS6. I've got a Genius MousePen tablet; M508W model. I can use it on my mac computer with photoshop elements; pen pressure works just fine with it. In CS6, when I do the stroke preview for all of my burshes, it shows the tapering-- as well as in the brush settings. When I go to make an actual rush stroke though, it doesn't apply the pressure settings. I've got the most recent drivers for the tablet downloaded, All of the old driver software was uninstalled, I've made sure that the drivers are for my version of windows, I've tried setting the compatability back to windows 7 and using the windows 7 drivers, but STILL nothing. The only reason I'm lead to believe that this is an issue with CS6 is that the tablet works with PS Elements just fine. If anyone could help shed some light on the situation, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I am having a similar issue.
Working in CS6 on a Cintiq Companion.
Pressure sensitivity disappears while I'm working.
The only way to get it back is to quit out of Photoshop and relaunch.
The pressure sensitivity works fine in Autodesk Sketchbook.

  • I just had another issue with cs6 locking up.

I just had another issue with cs6 locking up.  This time, I was in cs6 beta working on an image, I went to file/open to open another existing file in photoshop, and when the finder window popped up to select a .jpg to open up, the cursor wouldn't respond to the finder window that was opened up, and I couldn't close it out, and I had to force quite cs6.

If I'm reading this correctly, your last kernel panic (that's what these are called) occured six months ago.  Is that correct?  It probably does not have anything to do with the number of windows you have open; I suspect it has to do with one of the third party kexts or non-apple hardware.  My guess would be something with parallels (is the software up to date?), but if you're only getting panics at 6 month intervals it's really hard to diagnose.
Kernel panics aren't fun, but they aren't the end of the world.  make sure you keep regular backups, and if you can figure out how to replicate the panic at a more frequent interval we can figure it out.

  • Odd number (pixel) artboard (CS4) crop issue

I have been doing some tests and this is a rather odd issue I seem to be getting and I can't believe this is an Adobe oversight as it's a bit major and must be something I am missing.
I am going to explain exactly what I am doing to simulate this simple test, although please be aware this is appearing in my normal work flow and causing me some headaches.
    I create a new RGB 72dpi 1000x1000 pixel artboard.
I draw a blue box 1000x10 pixels exactly at the top of the artboard.
I then export for web (ctrl+alt+shift+s) and select "crop to artboard" and have it set to 100% quality jpeg.
What I have is a big white box with a blue box going from left to right across the top. All is as expected.
Now I drop back to the artboard, select the artboard tool and click on the blue box, this creates a secondry artboard exactly to the dimensions of the blue box.
Again export to web and this time I have just the blue box being displayed. No problems at all.
Right now back to illustrator and I delete my second artboard and increase the size of the blue box to 1000x11 px.
I move the box down half a pixel so it's again back on the top of the box.
I now select the artboard tool and click on the blue box again, I notice that the artboard dimensions and position again exactly matches the blue box.
I click export for web again and again only the blue box is selected, BUT this time I have a 50% (seemingly) transparant pixel line on the top of the blue box, which in JPEG mode makes a light blue line. If I switch to transparant PNG instead of JPEG I have a semi transparant blue line at the top.
If I switch back to the artboard and move the blue box down 0.5 of a pixel and then move the artboard as well it's fine. The artboards although seperate from each other seem to still be taking what is in them relative to everything else. In CS3 if you drew a crop box around an object, no matter where it was on the screen ("artboard") as long as it was in full pixels (as in not 0.5 etc) you didn't get this problem.
Now let me explain why this is a real pain in my work flow: I design websites in Illy. It's effectivly the tool I use to bring all my elements together, I use PS for advanced image editing, Word for writing my text etc and Illy for putting the pages together, formatting the text, creating the graphics etc. Now all this worked fine in CS3 because I could have something 11px high and have it start on a full pixel (as it works in HTML) and just create a crop box for it when I was exporting. It all worked wonderfully. So what I want to know is am I missing some option in Illy that makes it as good as it was? I love the idea of the artboards but this cropping issue seems like a step backwards and is giving me substandard output like I used to get from ImageReady years ago. If I draw a crisp edge, that is what I want comming out the other end.
    Hope someone can help.
    Regards
    Paul

I am going to reply o this if you make a circle and you make an artboard for that page and save it for the web you will crop half a pixel off the bottom and right sides if you increase the art board by a little over one third pixel all will be fine you get the whole circle.
This was happening to you as well but since it was a rectangle you did not notice it, Now to the problem you mention I would say it was related and that why you don't see it until you move it down is related to the problem that is happening at he bottom and you only see it when it is brought into view as you did.
So what can be done about it?
Adjust it manually make notes of the adjustment and write a script to adjust any artwork to accommodate the discrepancy.
As to you disbelief that Adobe would allow this to get by I am with you we all are hence the reason no one else answered we accept this and wait for a fix and by then we will probably never even notice that the save for the web is fixed.
Everyone will be back on this thread with "Hey when they did they fixed this? Huh?
But until then Happy Trails To Us.

  • PS CC running extremely slow...  No issues with CS6...

Same system...  CS6 runs perfectly fine, close it, then load CC, not even workable.  Close CC and reload CS6 and it runs fine...
Is CC really that much more hardware dependent?  I feel like the issue is software related and has nothing to do with my machine...  My Machine isn't some kind of powerhouse, but it does have 8gb of ram, and again, no real issues with CS6...

I am having this same problem and can't figure out what is going on.  CS6 runs excellent, CC is unbearable.  two second delay on almost everything.  It is unusable.

  • Issue with CS6 Image in CC

Has anyone come across an issue with opening a CS6 file with luminosity, and other effects applied where when you open it in CC it drops most all the effects? Any solutions to this? I still need to be able to manipulate the artwork in CS6 and CC and allow others to open it but am concerned that the effects are dropping off. When I opened it in CC the artwork was completely changed due to colors changing and effects disappearing.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, as I still run CS6, but I do read this forum daily and I don't remember seeing any other complaints about your problem. As hard as that might make it for you to get substantive help, it might lead to a better understanding of the problem if you restate it with more specific details and better attention to your terminology. Here's what I mean:
Issue with CS6 Image in CC
Thread title says "image," which is a term most commonly applied to raster images as opposed to native Illustrator vector art. Nothing else in the post makes it clear whether your problem pertains to raster images, vector graphics, or both.
..with luminosity, and other effects applied...
Some ambiguity there too. Luminosity is a Blend Mode, whereas Effects are really something different. Again, it's not clear whether your problem pertains to Blend Modes, Effects, or both.
When I opened it in CC the artwork was completely changed due to colors changing and effects disappearing.
This sounds like a particular instance involving a particular file, but it's not clear whether your problem pertains to just one file, or several, or all. It would really help to post a detailed description of one instance, including the file contents, any/all Blend Modes and/or Effects used, and specifically, which ones drop away and exactly how it affects the outcome.

  • Ease of rotating and cropping images in CS6

There is much I like about the new crop: Rotating the image instead of the box is SO much easier and the straighten option is a great time saver.
But in one instance, I'm finding cropping in CS6 to be harder: Cropping images that are not correctly oriented in the first place.  Rotating an image 90-degrees was a snap in CS2: Alt-I/E/0.  The shortcut keys are gone in CS6, so using the rotation command is no longer quick.
But I can do it in the crop box, right?  True -- but not easily.  The image is landscape, the crop box is portrait.  With the crop tool selected, holding the shift key down to get fixed-increment rotations doesn't work: Pressing the SHIFT key changes the cursor from rotation to the crop cursor.  To get the rotation, I have to start rotating the image and then press SHIFT to get 15-degree increments.  A few moments later, I have rotated the image into portrait orientation -- and the crop box is now centered on the image, but it is set to crop the middle.  I have to drag the handles out to get approximately what I want: The full image in the crop box.  (What I want is what I would get if I rotate the image with the Rotate command, then control-zero to fill the screen, and then select the crop tool.)
We rotate a lot of images.  It's easy to do in CS2 and the two approaches I've found for CS6 are both awkward.  The new crop tool has replaced the dual arrows in older versions (to swap the horizontal and vertical sizes) with a rotation arrow.  I think you should restore the arrows (and their function) -- then use the rotate button to rotate the image, not the crop box.  (Isn't that the design center for the new crop box?  We're moving the image, not the crop box.)

Howard, thanks for the tip about the X key; didn't realize it worked that way when the crop tool is active.  But in this case I had set the crop box dimenions, so the crop box starts out with the correct orientation.  Having played with this for a day, I conclude that the best approach for this task is to restore the old keyboard conventions for image rotation and rotate the image before launching the crop tool.
I stand by my observation that the rotate key should affect the image, not the crop box because that is consistent with the new cropping paradigm: We rotate the image, not the crop box.  I realize making a change this late in the development cycle is awkward -- but if CS6 ships with this behavior, it will become even harder to change later -- and the user interface should be as consistent as possible.
Noel, you are correct: The images are coming from scanned film.  All frames get scanned with the same orientation.  I want to avoid the "Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this.  Doctor: Then don't do that!" scenario.  Granted: If images are "correctly" oriented, this issue doesn't arise.  But not all images are oriented correctly and CS6 should be at least as graceful in handling the task as previous versions.

  • Canon  Vixia HV30 capture issue on CS6 (Mac OSX)

This might be (hopefully) something in setup, but under Mac OSX Lion (10.7.4) / Premiere CS6, i am unable to capture video from my Canon Vixia HV30 - it's either i get a monstruous noise or simply get a 'capture device offline' message.
No one ever had a similar problem even withanother cam here? I posted weeks ago but never got any reply.
Am using the same cam under Windows with Premiere CS4 and never faced such an issue.
Matter of some sort of CODEC ?  Does not seem to require any specific driver for Mac based on Canon website.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Solved... (Almost!)
Someone pointed out that Canon has a software (they said there was no driver for Mac OS X so I had stopped looking...) But if it may help others, there is a ''CameraWindow'' for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8  available.
As soon as I installed it, I could capture both from Adobe Premiere CS6 and iMovie.
One problem remaining though : the noise (feedback-like) that gets out from... the system's sound card ! (when capture is ongoing). I have to shut down the volume completely.  Never had this issue under Windows, need to figure out why this happens now.
Jeff thanks again for your assistance, even though the solution was somewhere else.
If anyone has a clue for the noise issue ... please let me know

  • Will Adobe ever fix the UI text font size issues in CS6 apps?

Having recently installed CS6 on my new Windows computer, I find some serious issues with font sizes in the user interface (and not only in Dreamweaver, but in several--but not all--the applicaitons). You'd think that with a 27-inch screen, font sizes wouldn't be a problem. And you'd be wrong.
The irony is that some text is properly sized. Commands in the menus. For example. But the menu names are not. The text of items in the File tab is correctly sized, but the name of the File tab is not. In the Manage Sites dialog box, the title bar text is properly sized, but the text within, including button labels, is not. IN almost all of these cases, text is just plain way too small to read. It looks like the programmers made a HUGE boo-boo: they sized text in pixels, not only a no-no in web diesgn, but a no-no in applicaiton design.
Because on a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 1920x1080, UI text in Dreamweaver is all plenty large and readable, while on a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 2560x1440, UI text all over the applicaiton is too tiny to read--and made worse by putting the text on a gray background, reducing contrast, yet another design no-no.
CC is NOT an option--and properly should not be for any occasional user. Do not even think of suggesting it as a "solution."
This is clearly a bug (did Adobe do any testing on higher-resolution screens before releaseing CS6?), and one I wonder if it is unique to Windows systems (as Apple has had similarly high-resolutiopn screen for its displays and iMac lines for quite some time now). Or is it uniquely a Windows 8 issue?
Finally, is there at all a workaround? I can find nothing in the Settings dialog box that would control the size of UI text. Perhaps there is a text-based configuration file that could be modified to change the size of UI text. (Yeah, having configured autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, and similar files back in the day, I do know my way around configuration files--if they are still used.)

What made you think that you should complain to Adobe about Windows display problem?  Adobe and Microsoft are two different companies competing against each other.
However, you might have display problem and the best way to resolve this is by going to:
    Control Panel >> Display
    Follow the online instructions.
Please not, you go to control Panel from within the windows itself NOT from DW.
Hope this gets you started or you can ask in the Windows Forum on Microsoft Website.

  • Adobe Media Encoder - compression issues (.flv) cs6 vs earlier versions

Hi all, I hope somebody can help.
This morning I encoded from a 1080p QuickTime .mov file to a 360p .FLV file.
I have previously used this work-flow with CS4 and CS5.5 and have had great results.
When I attempted the same thing this morning, for the first time with CS6 Media Encoder, the .FLVs came out glitchy in places (screen shots 1 & 2 attached).
Thinking it was a process error, I tried several different methods and all yielded the same results.
So I returned to CS4, thinking it might be a software issue, and "hey presto" no glitches!
All updates are present and correct from the Creative Cloud/ Adobe Application Manager, so am I missing something?
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Lots more encoding to be done this afternoon and would like to use CS6 ME if at all possible.
Any help would be massively appreciated.

  • Connecting the 1440x980 Powerbook to the TV, placement and cropping issues.

The last Powerbook I owned was the 1.87ghz 15inch at 1280x800 resolution. When I connected the computer to TV via s-video, everything was smooth, perfectly cropped and looked fantastic.
My new Powerbook, the last model Apple manufactured, has a 1440x960 resolution, and disappointing s-video output. After connecting the s-video to my TV, I connect to my Powerbook, hit Detect Displays and wait for a connection. The quality is perfect, but the image has a half inch black border on 3 sides and is flush with the right side of the TV.
Why am I having issues with this Powerbook? Is it the new resolution, bad video card? Is there any way to shift the image slightly or fill the remaining space?
    Thanks for looking

Thanks for the tip, how do I change the refresh rate once the Powerbook is attached to the TV? The option seems to disappear once I hit Detect Displays.
I notcied that Overscan will get rid of the border, but then I have the problem of over-cropping and losing part of the image.

  • Interactive button issues in CS6

Here is the issue, as stated from one of my colleagues. I've worked with him on some of the possible soltions mentioned, but haven't been able to figure out a solution to this glitch problem. One note: we are exporting to interactive PDF for all documents using these buttons:
    Summary:
InDesign CS6 seems to disregard, and sometimes remove, the functionality of custom buttons. We want to understand it so we can work around it or determine a redesign solution.
    Description:
InDesign CS6 seems to remove the functionality of some buttons in a pre-built snippet. Also, documents that were fully functional and interactive in InDesign CS4 no longer work in ID CS6. It seems that not only is ID CS6 removing button functionality, this happens at random (it’s not predictable) and without any cause we can see.
    Markers:
Some things seem to indicate when the functionality doesn’t work. One is where the Visibility box in the Buttons and Forms panel won’t populate with all available functional buttons, (see image1). In this image, the button shown was fully functional when it was built, but it’s no longer modifiable because the Visibility box does not populate.
Other times, the field populates, but some of the functionality previously present has been removed. For example, in the image below, theHint3 button was built with an eyeball icon next to it and previously functioned properly. Now it’s gone, but the other two actions are still fine. Removing this functionality seems to be random; we can’t find any pattern to which actions get removed and which remain whole.
    What we’ve tried:
    Snippets.
In CS4 we created a snippet in which all of the buttons interacted properly. When that snippet was imported into ID CS6, almost none of the functionality came with the buttons. Once we anchored the snippet to the document, the rest of the functionality got removed and became unmodifiable
We’ve created a snippet from scratch in CS6. Sometimes the snippet comes in fully functional, sometimes it’s dysfunctional. We have not been able to anchor any functional groups of buttons without losing all functionality.
    Build from scratch.
We can build these from scratch, but it’s time consuming and there’s a stronger possibility for error. Additionally, we’ve found some functionality disappearing when you move the snippet around the document.
    Copy/paste.
We’ve also found some functionality disappearing when you copying  the snippet.
    Conclusion:
We don’t know what’s happening, or why, but it’s clear the functionality of buttons is not working as hoped. We hope it’s just some setting we’re not thinking through, but there’s a chance it’s a fault in InDesign. It may be a combination of both. Hopefully a solution can be found, or at least that the problem can be identified so we can work around it or redesign.

I have heard there´s some issues with transferring buttons with actions from one document to another, I have had some problems with Multi State object actions...
Have you tried to use Library instead of snippets? It probably won´t hepl but may still be worth trying...
Could you attach one sample snippet which doesn´t work?

  • Install issue AI CS6

I downloaded AI CS6 and do not see where to open the program. I see it installed in the Application Manager, but where do I launch the program from? I ordered the monthly cloud program. I am running Windows 7 premium. I did see an error when installing, but did not understand it? If you think this is the issue, how can I re-install?

Well, if there was an error you need to tell us the exact wording. Also find the install logs. As a start, you might try to run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and then let AAM reinstall...

Is your Photoshop updated to Photoshop CS6 13.0.6?
    Have you tried trashing prefs:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
