Cropping issues in Camera Raw 8.3

Lately I've been having problems with the crop drop down meny - it's just not there anymore. The button itself is there but no drop down.
Photoshop 14.1.2 20130923.r.427
Camera Raw 8.3
Hilfe!

Have you tried using the Clear button on the Options bar?  (A counter clockwise arrow).
Have you tried resetting the Crop tool (left end of Options bar)?
Otherwise, what operating system?  And is this with the Ratio, Overlay,  and options (the Cog icon)?

  • Possible GPU Issues With Camera Raw 6.6

Over the past day on my Windows 7 x64 workstation I've done some updates.  Specifically:
The Adobe updater brought in Camera Raw 6.6, replacing 6.5.
I updated the to the ATI Catalyst 11.12 display driver version from previous version 11.11.
I allowed Windows Update to apply the dozen or so changes that were pending.
I was just doing some OpenGL testing with Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 x64 and I noticed that under some conditions I saw Photoshop drop out of OpenGL acceleration.  Specifically, when I opened a Canon 5D Mark II image through Camera Raw I saw subsequent operations stop using OpenGL acceleration even though the checkmark remained in the [  ] Enable OpenGL Drawing box in Edit - Preferences - Performance.
What I did to determine whether OpenGL acceleration was enabled was this:  Select the Zoom Tool, then click and hold the left mouse button on the image.  When OpenGL is enabled, I see a smooth increase in zoom.  When it goes disabled, I see only a jump in zoom level after letting up the mouse button.  Also, the [  ] Scrubby Zoom box gets grayed out.  As I mentioned, even in this condition, a check of Edit - Preferences - Performance still shows OpenGL enabled.
Just as a control, I saved the converted file as a PSD, and every time I opened THAT file (with a fresh copy of PS CS5 running) and did the same operations I could not reproduce the failure.  The difference being I did not run Camera Raw.
Since I wasn't specifically looking for issues with Camera Raw, I am not sure that the problem occurred every time I did run Camera Raw.  I do know that when I open images from my own camera (40D; I do not own a 5D Mark II) that the problem doesn't seem to occur.  Notably I always open my image from Camera Raw to the largest possible pixel size - 6144 x 4096, as I did with the 5D Mark II image, so it's not an obvious size difference that's leading to the issue.  Given other comments of late, I'm wondering if it could be a specific issue with conversions of files from 5D Mark II.
Nor am I sure whether any of the above updates caused it - it might done this before; I don't regularly convert 5D Mark II images.  I DO think I would have noticed Photoshop reverting to GDI operation before, since I just noticed it pretty easily, but I'm not completely sure of that either.  I do use OpenGL-specific features (such as right-click brush sizing) pretty often.
I'm trying now to find a set of steps with which to reliably reproduce the problem now, and will advise.
    -Noel

Figures.  Now I can't reproduce the problem at all, even after an hour of testing.  It probably had nothing to do with Camera Raw.
I wonder if there are latent GPU status indicators and config values stored by Photoshop based on its specific environment that might not be right for the first run (or first few runs) after a display driver update.  Hm....

  • Crop tool in Camera Raw 8.4 for PS CS6

I recently downloaded camera raw 8.4 for use with photoshop CS6. The crop tool in camera raw now only allows me to crop to a ratio rather than to a specific size. I usually crop to 9x13 or 17x22 inches. How do I get this feature back?  I prefer and need to crop my work to a specific size.
    Thanks, Jeff D.

    Good day!
I notice no difference to prior to 8.4.
But maybe the ACR Forum may be a better place for questions realted to ACR.

  • No crop tool in camera raw

I have only 8 tools in the Camera RAW toolbar:
    Zoom
    Hand
    White Balance,
    Color Sampler
    Targeted Adjustment
    Spot Removal
    Red Eye
    Adjustment Brush
    Graduated Filter
    Radial Filter
I right clicked on the toolbar to see if the Cropping, Straightening, etc. were hidden.  Nothing.  The only other tool is the Full Screen button.
    What's up?
    Windows 8.1
I did further research and opened the file from Windows Explorer and the tools are all there.  But they're not there when opened from Bridge??????   WTF?
Okay.....  more research.  The problem was opening a file from Preview.  From Filmstrip and Essentials they're all there.  So I modified the workspace to look more like Preview, saved it as a new workspace and I'm happy now.
I was thinking of deleting this email, but thought someone else might be running into the same issue.
    Thanks
    David

If you go to Help > System Info and look at the first line, that will tell you what exact version of Photoshop you have.
If CS6 or above, you might check to see if you are updated to Camera Raw 8.7.1
That would be the first item to look at if you suspect anything wrong.

You probably need ACR 6.1.  Check the Camera Raw forum.

  • Issue downloading Camera Raw update: 'Update Not Applicable'

    Hi,
I'm running CS5 Extended 12.0x64, and started shooting with a canon 60D (previously 450D). i am having the issue of the Camera Raw images being unreadable, I presumed because of the new camera, but I am unable to install the 7.1 update on my Mac.
    Help?
    Thanks

The free DNG Converter could be used to convert the RAW images to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to process.

  • Crop options in Camera Raw 8.1

The crop to pixel dimensions is no longer available in Camera raw 8.1. I have  always used this option when creating slideshows to put on a DVD. Where has this option gone? Why? And is there a workaround?

The aspect ratio is often considered more relevant than a specific pixel dimension when determine the conrent of an image.
Before you open the file you can set contraints for specific pixels by clicking the blue text at the bottom of the CR window.

  • Issues with Camera Raw - Canon SL1

Hello! I recently bought a Canon SL1 and am trying to open up the raw files in Photoshop. It says I need that the Camera Raw plug-in does not support this, so I go to Adobe.com to do an update but I (a) can't find the right one and (b) my Mac says that it doesn't recognize the developer whenever I do download something.
HELP!! I need to be able to see these files!!

What version of Photoshop are you using? I'm not familiar with the Canon models. I think some of them have different model designations in different localities. I didn't see the camera you mentioned listed in the list of supported cameras. However, you might check to confirm this:

  • Camera RAW - Crop and save in . NEF format

I know how to use the Crop Tool in Camera RAW and save the picture in the original Nikon .NEF format.
I am unable to set the Crop Tool to a proportion (24x36, for instance) and do not know if this is possible.
It can be done in Photoshop setting the Marquee Tool to the appropriate proportion and cropping the Image-Crop.
However, in this case I am unable to save the result in the original .NEF format (which is not proposed), but must use .TIF, .JPG or others.
    My two questions:
    1. Is there a way to set the Crop Tool in Camera RAW to a fixed proportion?
    2. Is there a way to save the cropped picture in Photoshop in the original .NEF format?
    Many thanks for your help.

In Camera Raw, hold down while clicking on the crop tool and you should have a bunch of ratio presets (as well as "custom") available.
To open an "NEF" in PS, hold shift down in Camera Raw, and you'll see "Open image" becomes "Open object". This creates an embedded RAW smart object in PS, which can later be edited using Camera Raw if desired, by double-clicking on the smart object layer icon in the layers panel in PS.

  • Straighten and crop in Camera RAW

If I am having difficulty in Camera RAW if I straighten a photo and then try to crop it.
I place the line to straighten the photo and then I hit enter to complete the straightening.  If I then click on crop, the image returns to the state before I hit enter after straightening it.
How does one both straighten and crop in in Camera RAW?

When the crop tool is active it will show you the original image with the crop tool outline within.  If you open the image or click on the magnifying glass it will apply the crop so you won't see the part around the crop border.
Try this technique on an image that needs straightening (Note: Photoshop CS5):
    1.  Choose the Straighten tool, and drag a horizontal or vertical line.   When you release the mouse button you'll immediately see the crop tool activate
    2.  Click outside the crop tool border and move the mouse.  The crop border will rotate for fine tuning, and you can drag the corners to change the crop.
    3.  Turn it so that what's inside the crop will be straight.
    4.  Click on another tool besides Crop (e.g., the Magnifying Glass) to check the result.
    5.  If there's something wrong, go back to the Crop tool and adjust the outline.

  • Camera RAW 5.6 - Filmstrip Does Not Appear

I'm having an interesting issue with Camera RAW 5.6. In everything I have found via searching, the preview flimstrip is supposed to automatically appear when multiple RAW files are opened. In my case, this does not happen. Instead, I see each image one at a time, only viewing the next one if I chose to close or fully open the file.
When I was using XP Pro SP3 x86, the filmstrip worked as it was supposed to. Now, on Windows 7 Ultimate x64, it never appers. I haven't been able to find any other information on this issue so I'm assuming it's just me. Any suggestions?

There is a reason for this but I can't check it at the moment.
I suggest you ask in the Camera Raw forum.

  • Camera Raw still refuses to update (8.4 to 8.5)

Here' s a little bit of background on the situation.  I have been having some issues with Camera Raw in the CC version of Photoshop for quite a while now.  Last time Lightroom decided to update, I had to manually update Camera Raw for Photoshop after being helped by support because no other solution could be found.  Now Lightroom updated to Camera Raw 8.5 and Photoshop CC 2014 which was released just the other day at the same time is stuck on Camera Raw 8.4  First, why can't Camera Raw just be updated across the entire suite of applications?  This is really annoying to say the least.  And second, how can I update Camera Raw to 8.5?  I see the following CC 2014 apps within the Adobe Application Manager except for Camera Raw.  Any help is appreciated or if someone has a manual file that can be shared I'm open to another manual installation, again.
    Adobe Audition CC 2014
    DPS Desktop Tools CC 2014
    Adobe Dreamweaver CC 2014
    Adobe Edge Animate CC 2014
    Adobe Illustrator CC 2014
    Adobe InDesign CC 2014
    Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014
    Adobe Photoshop CC 2014
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014
    Adobe Flash Professional CC 2014

Please follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:
    Quit and Relaunch CC app
            http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-connection-faq.html#id_10491
Open the Adobe Creative Cloud application.
Mac OS: Go to the Applications folder and open the Adobe Creative Cloud alias.
Windows 7: Go to Start > All Programs > Adobe Creative Cloud
Windows 8: Open the Adobe Creative Cloud application from the Start Screen.
Click the Apps tab in the Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
Click on All Apps, then Previous Version
Your installed CC Product would be listed, Click on Install Drop-down and then select the CC 2014 to install.
After Successful Installation, Update your Product
Let me know if you are still not able to Update ACR.

  • Camera Raw 6.7 won't save developer settings

I'm running Adobe CS 5 with Camera Raw 6.7 on a Windows Vista machine.
I have a Canon T3i that I shoot all of my Raw files from. Which Camera Raw 6.7 supports and have not had trouble in the past.
Recently everytime I've loaded the Raw files into a new project folder and begin to adjust the first Raw file, none of the develper settings are saved or the updated Raw file won't show anything on Bridge (The little triangle on top of the Raw file won't show on Bridge). The XMP file contains the adjustments but bridge and camera raw will not load the adjustments. I am not able to copy or paste settings from other previous Raw files either.
The weird part is that I am able to adjust Raw files and developer settings are properly saved in older folder created previously. This seems to happen everytime I start a new project and load the Raw files into it.
I've tried clearing out the Camera Raw cache, and export cache for that folder but nothing help. I've even tried rebooting. Only after a good amount of time has passed and I've tried to keep on clearing the cache does Camera Raw finally functions properly and saves the developer settings afterwards. It's very random and very annoying. I usually end up wating alot of time trying to get it to work and at times can get very frustrating when the projects needs to be completed.
Has anyone had similar issues with Camera Raw? Any solutions or work arounds? Or what's causing it, and how can I avoid it??
Any help would be greatly appreciated and would help me not loose too much sleep.

So after looking around in the forums I found the solution. Some other members had similar issues.
The issue stems from not having the correct time set on the camera. Here's the link to the forum post with more detail:

  • Using LR2 w/ Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7

    I am using Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7 on a Mac G4, OS X 10.4.11.
I am about to install my upgrade to Lightroom 2. Is this a bad idea?
I have read about some compatibility issues re Camera Raw, and I have also read about how to solve the issue of exporting the keywords.
Will this keyword issue fix work on my system?
What are the real-world practical implications of still having Camera Raw 3.7? I usually adjust images in Lightroom, then any further adjustment is done in Photoshop (not CR). So is the only downside going to be that if I revisit the image in Camera Raw, the adjustments will not show up? Or will it also not show up in Bridge?? And if it is only in CR, is it that the image does not have the adjustments; or does it show the adjusted image, but has just all the sliders zeroed out?
I am hot to install LR2, but I want to make sure that I am not going to open a can of worms. And yes, I could buy PS CS4 (which would get me CR 4.5), and I would like to, but I don't have a G5. And I cannot afford to buy a new desktop computer right now.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
    Dean Abramson

    >so is the LR version of RAW as good as the one in CS3?
It's far better as it has local adjustments and such. Lightroom is more equivalent to the ACR in CS4. To make changes you make to images in ACR outside Lightroom show up in Lightroom, you need to sync the metadata. ACR does not write the changes to RAW images to the Lightroom database, but it writes it into xmp sidecars either right next to the RAW file or embedded into it. So Lightroom has no idea you did anything until you specifically ask it to check for updated metadata.
Note that trying to work with both bridge/ACR and Lightroom on the same set of data will inevitably make you lose data or edits at some point as you're dealing with a synchronization issue, so be careful.
