Cropping photo in album A changes same photo in album B  too.

I have Album A, with photos cropped square. I copied the same photos to Album B and I want to crop those lets say 'postcard' format. I need to work with these 2 formats for my business. Now all photos in Album A also change to 'postcard' size. How do I keep 2 different sizes, in 2 different albums.

Albums are logical entities that are simply points to the photo in the library - any change made to that photo anyplace will be reflected in all other places - you can make changes and then revert to original restoring the original photo after you have used the changed photo - or you can duplicate the photos and change one of the copies leaving the other one alone

  • How do you stop your phone from creating two albums with the same photos after syncing?

When I first bought my phone I was able to sync my photos by checking the folder I wanted synced under iTunes. This put all those photos on photo library on my phone. I recently added more photos to that folder and tried to sync them it now put them in the photo library album and also created another album with my folder name. So I have two albums with the same photos. I tried in checking that folder in iTunes and of course they're not in my photo library. Please help. I don't want two albums with the same pics

This is how Apple has always handled photos.  nothing has changed at all.
Just as your music is in your library and you can access those exact same songs from a playlist, all of your synced pics are in the Photo Library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the album name that you chose to sync.

  • Touchsmart photo, it has multiplied the same photos, why?

After I download photos, then go to touchsmart photo, it has muliplied the same photos over and over.
I have so many of the same photos on the touchsmart photo app, its rediculous. What can I do to stop this?

All photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library.
If you transfer multiple iPhoto Events or Albums, the Events or Albums are also available below Photo Library. This allows for viewing photos in an Event or Album only by selecting the Event or Album, or viewing all photos in all Events or Albums by selecting Photo Library. The photos are not duplicated. Photos in an Event or Album include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library.
No different from iPhoto. You can't have a photo in an Event or in an Album unless the photo is in the main iPhoto library. All photos in an Event or Album are available in photos. Photos in an Event or Album include a pointer to the original photos stored in the main iPhoto library. You can view photos in an Event or Album only by selecting the Event or Album, or all photos in all Events or Albums by selecting Photos. The photos in Events and Albums are not duplicated and the same applies to the iPhone's Photo Library with Events and Albums transferred to the iPhone. The same applies to music in an iTunes playlist and for contacts in an Address Book Group.
Nothing is wrong and this is not a bug. This is by design.

  • When I synced my iphone 4s with photos from my Blackberry it creatsd 2 albums with the same photos. with 1677 pictures in each, how do i delete one of them?

It created two libraries "Blackberry" and "Photo Library" and I need to delete one but it will not allow a delete.

This is how Apple handles photos.
    They are NOT duplicates.
Just all songs are in your library, and those exact same songs can be accessed from a playlist, all photos synced to your iphone are in Photo Library, you can access those exact same photos (not duplicates) from teh folder/album that you synced.
If you sync 10 albums, you will have one Photo Library where all the pics reside.  You can access those same photos via the different albums you synced.

  • People Photo Stacks not showing photo and how to change that photo

I had a very large database of images that I ocnverted from PSE 10. All is well, except for this rather glaring annoyance. When the People is clicked to show the people photo stacks, many of the stacks only have a standard icon instead of the others that have a photo.
First, how to get photos instead of icons?
Second - How to change the photo shown?
    Thanks!

If you are using face recognition you can reveal the people tags using the View menu. They are hidden by default.
People tags are new in PSE11. In previous versions they were simply keywords.
If you enable people tags in the Media browser you will get a combined list of imported people keywords and people tags. Although in the People browser you will only get thumbnail stacks for the new people tags. Thumbnails for people keywords will display as blank. To run people recognition click the Add people icon in the task bar at the bottom.
To chose a thumbnail for the top of each stack double click to ipen the stack, Select one of the faces and right click. Then choose Assign as Profile Picture.

  • I am having trouble importing photos, gets stuck on the same photo each time?!?

I am having trouble importing almost 3000 pics from my phone to my computer. Start up disk should be fine, cleaned it up before I began.  Import gets stuck on the same photo each time I try the import.  I have had to force quit a few times, and it can't seem to get past that same picture near the end.  Please help?!? It never gives me an error, it just keeps spinning and nothing is importing.

  • My Mac's iPhoto library is larger than my iPad's photo library, despite containing the same photos???

    Hello everyone.
My iPhoto library is 22.91gb when shown in finder, and 13.8gb when shown in the iPhoto window inside iPhoto.  There are 4665 photos.  I understand why there's a difference - that's not my question.
What is confusing me is that when I sync my MacBook and my iPad, on itunes I select to sync ALL my photos from iPhoto to my iPad.  However, on my iPad they take up only 6.66gb of space, with a total of 5670 photos on the iPad (duplicates within albums, recently deleted folder and camera roll I guess).
4665 photos on mac - 22.91gb (13.8 in real terms)
    5670 photos on ipad - 6.66gb
What's going on? The quality doesn't seem reduced on the ipad at all.  I only have a little 120gb macbook air hard drive so could really do with extra space.
    thanks very much

Syncing with iTunes will store only smaller versions on your iPad, not the full sized originals, so the storage required will be less.
But the syncing will also create a cache inside the iPhoto Library with the optimised versions and require additional space on your Mac, see:  iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder

  • Batch title change in photo version 1

The new "Photo" has changed the user interface completely.  Is there a way to to the "batch title change" for a group of photos?  There are instructions for how to do for one, but I'm hoping that this has not been lost.  I'm using version 1.
Is there any way to remove the conformation that is now required each and every time you want to delete a photo or group of photos?
    Thanks,
    DMW

Batch changing is not yet supported in Photos for Mac.
You could try to do it using AppleScript and Automator.
I posted a few scripts on the Photos User Tips page:

  • IPhoto 11 showing the same photo everywhere

I am using iPhoto '11 9.2.1 on a MAC osX 10.7.2 and when I load iphoto every photo it shows is the same photo, however, the labels underneath are correct and if I double click it, it opens the right photo- its just the thumbnail that is broken.
This happened shortly after I upgraded to Lion and any photos I add now are correct- so its only impacting ones that added pre-lion.
    Thanks

Launch iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down and rebuilt the library with just Options #3 and #4 selected.  Make a temporary copy of the library before rebuilding just in case the rebuild does'nt go as expected.

  • Photos app - Batch title change/add

In iPhoto one of the first things I'd do after importing was set the title of the images to the event name by batch rename, so I'd end up with pics by year, by event named and numbered. In Photos app how can you batch change the title or batch add a title? That ability seems to have been removed. (Also why on earth does clicking on the year bring up a map instead of the pics from that year....not my main question, just a gripe )

  • Editing in albums that don't affect other albums

Is there a setting I can choose so that photos edited in a given album don't affect the same photos in other albums or in the project?
For instance, I have an album of select photos. I want to make another album of those same photos (duplicate album) and edit them further without affecting the earlier album. But as it is now, anything I do to the second album changes the photos in the original album. Is duplicating the version the only way to proceed?
    Thanks,
    Jason
p.s. I'm coming from a video editing workflow where rough cuts are duplicated and refined until you have your fine cut. If at any time you don't like what you experimented with you can go back to an earlier version where it is exactly how you left it, and use that. This may be different from a typical photography workflow, but I find it allows me to experiment freely without worrying about the same photo in other albums or projects being affected.

    Social Sentry wrote:

Yes.  Just keep making Versions as needed.  (Versions are literally just text files of instructions applied on-the-fly to create the image you see on the screen.  They are very small in size compared to the original image files.  There is no reason not to create as many as you need.)  I use color-labels to keep track of the stage of development of each Version.  You might want to make sure "Stack Versions" is turned on in Preferences.  This will create a Version Stack in the Project that is home to the Master.
Note, too, that Aperture always applies your Adjustments in the same order.  (This is -- as I understand it -- an engineering decision.)  The implication is that the order in which you apply the Adjustments has no bearing on the image.  In practice, it means you can simply view the applied Bricks and their settings to see what the current Adjustments are.  Note that you can toggle any Brick on/off by checking the box at its top left.
What I'm trying to get to is that "earlier Versions" have a different meaning in this kind of workflow.  In the phrase "And then I did this", the "And then" has no useful meaning.
    I'm sorry I don't have a better explanation.  I hope that helps.

  • Using Iphoto 11 how do I change filename on photo so when it exports it does so in same sequence as Album created in.  Finder does not have option to keep as is... Thanks to anyone who can help me with this !

The photos must be viewed in sequence as prepared with the filenames I have chosen to describe them.
How can I just simply transfer this over to a dvd ?  Any help is appreciated !
    Thank You

There are two ways to export photos so they remain in the same order as you put them in the iPhoto album:
    A:
1 -  select the photos in the album and use the Photos ➙ Batch Rename  ➙ Title to Text menu with the option to add a sequential number to the file name.
2 - Export out of iPhoto via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Title.
    B:
1 - select all of the photos in the album and export via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Album name with number.
Both method will produce file with the following file name format:  xxxx-01.jpg, xxxx-02.jpg, etc., which will be in the order you had in iPhoto when view alphanumerically in the Finder.

  • Edit photo in album without changing original

In iPhoto '08, it seems like any photo that I edit in an album also edits the original. This is why I stopped using one of the earlier versions of iPhoto. It seemed like this was fixed in iPhoto 6, so that iPhoto would automatically preserve the original and save the changes in a copy of the photo.
Is there a setting that can be changed in the preferences somewhere? If I'm working on two albums (i.e. one for each child) I often want to use the same photos but crop them differently, and I'd rather not have to remember to make a copy any time I do so.

No, all occurrences of a photo in the library other than in an event is just an alias of the original or the edited version. Change one and you change all.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ITunes syncs an extra album with the exact same photos on iPhone 5?

So i've been chatting with apple care for the past 2 hours and ive been transffered to different departments 3 times and NONE of them could help me. so Apple community, you are my last hope.
I created an album of my own on iPhoto. lets say that the name of this album is album X.
I then connected my iphone 5 into my computer and clicked on sync photos from iphoto.
i then selected the box which was next to the name of the album i created in iphoto.
when i click on apply, it then syncs my photos.
when i go on my phone i then see the following albums :
    "Camera Roll"
    "Photo Library"
    "X"
bear in mind that "X" is the album i created.
the Album "photo library" and "X" both contain the same exact photos.
i would like to get rid of the album "X" and just have "Camera roll" and "Photo Library".
i have tried EVERY way possible that i know and apple knows. for example unsyncing then resyncing, changing accounts on my computer and resetting the iphone. apple told me that the problem seems to be coming from the sync process therefore the problem is to do with my computer my iphone is perfectly fine.
if anyone could help me with this i would REALLLYYYYY appericiate it!!!
    Thank you,

That's the way it works, & there is nothing wrong. iPhone organizes photos the same way iPhoto does on a Mac. All photos synced to your phone appear in your "Photo Library". The photos in the various albums/folders are not duplicates, rather they are pointers to the actual photos, which, again, are in your Photo Library.

  • My photos in my folders aren't copying to ipad in same order as computer even after renaming sequentially. It's a photo album so need same order

My photos in my folders aren't copying to ipad in same order as computer even after renaming sequentially. It's a photo album so need same order

On iOS 6 the photos are copied over (from here) in date modified order. So you will either need to amend the photo's on your computer so that their modified dates are in your required order, or there are third-party photo management apps such as Photo Manager Pro which allow you to change an album's sort order within the app e.g. by date, size, or by dragging them into your own sort order.
