Cropping the image in FCE4

After cropping in the Canvas window, how do you make the image fit the whole screen, rather than sit on a black background?

In the Motion section of the Viewer use the Scale slider to enlarge the image.
If you have not cropped the frame to exactly 4:3 dimensions you may lose a bit of the image around the edges.

  • Do all the "themes" automatically crop the image?

I tried all six themes - and all six of them crop the image in one way or another.
is there any way to avoid this? is there a theme or something I can do to show the entire image on the slide show?
    thanks!

What aspect (size) ratio are your photos? Most of the themes, books, etc. are designed to a 4:3 aspect ratio as that's usually what most digital cameras create. You also have to set the display aspect ratio to 4:3 to avoid cutting off any of the photos (see bottom of screenshot below):
The one theme that does not work is Sliding Panels as it uses frames that are not 4:3.

  • Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.

  • Something is wrong with the cropping.  It won't let me crop the picture.  Usually the arrow would appear so I can drag it to crop the image but now the little hand appear and does not change to the arrow.

I cannot use my crop function in editing.  The little hand would not change to the arrow hence cannot drag to crop the image.  It just happened today.

Lets start with details - what version of iPhoto and of the OS?
anything else that might help figure this out?

  • How can I create side bars without cropping the image?

I want to create side bars because I am projecting in an vertical panel, but if I crop the image them I only get the middle part of it.
How can I create side bars in an way that I can still move the image inside?

On a Video Track directly above the clip(s) you want to have behind the side bars, place a clip of Color (or whatever you want to use for your sidebars).
Now go to the Effects Tab > Matte >Mask Shape and drag the Mask Shape filter to the Color clip you have placed on the timeline.
Double click on the clip to open it in the viewer, and click on the Filters Tab.
Click Invert Box, and adjust the shape to get the side bars you want.
And now the clip(s) that are beneath this effect will have the side bars and be independent of it, so that you can move them around.

  • Graphic resizing function has changed, now crops the image, why?

I must have, without knowing it, changed some setting. Until now whenever I bring in graphic, like a png or jpg, I can resize it by using the selection tool (arrow) and at one corner of the image I click, hold down shift/command (Mac) and then reduce or enlarge the size proportionally. What has changed is that now the image does not respond like that but rather the same maneuver crops the image in the sense that, like using a mask function, the image does not change size but the border of it changes and part of the image left non-visible. I assume there is a setting I don't know that does this but so far have not been able to figure it out. Does anyone know?
Any answer appreciated as very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    — Richard

Yes, I see the difference. I tried the sequence you suggested and is working, but also had gone back and forth on the menu choices before doing this and it seemed to change things as well, so not sure what did it. Appreciate your help. Will follow up if problem not fixed.

  • Can I crop the image in the canvas

Can I crop the image from the canvas area so I could make several windows to add some video clips or do I have to just reduce the size of the image and make the composite of the videos. i want to make vertical, rectangle and square composite of several video clips.

The Time Remap (simulating the corresponding function in FCP) can do basically 2 things:
    a. apply keyframing to the speed of the clip: you can start a clip with speed = 0% (like a freeze frame) and gradually speed up the clip to its end at 100% (standard speed); or viceversa; or start at 100%, slow down to 0% in the middle and back up to 100% at the end. You can apply just any speed variation by keyframing the Speed control.
    b. force the clip to play a frame in a time different than in the original clip; for example you want to have some action originally at time 2secs in sync with a drum roll occurring at frame 2,5secs: just keyframe that action frame at 2,5secs. Then the video clip before 2secs will slow down to meet the drum roll at 2,5secs and then speedup to go back in sync at the end of the clip.
    A few notes:
    - only video is affected, not audio (different from FCE Speed command)
    - the clip length does not change
    - to see the result in the canvas always render: what you see in the viewer is not the final result.
    - instructions on its use are in the download page - if they are not clear let me know.
As a suggestion you can read Ken Stone's Time Remap up to Time Remap in timeline excluded. It describes this function as implemented in FCP4, but its principles (and some details) are the same as in my filter.
    Let me know...

  • Photoshop Elements 9: fill edges after crop the image

    Hello together,
I have generated a nice panorama with PSE9, after that PSE9 asks me to fill the edges. But the part which should be filled are quiete big, because of the deformation in the panorama. And I get always the message that I have not enough memory to fill the edges. So my idea was to crop the panorama and fill the edges after that, but i didn't find the option to fill the edges in the menu bar.
Can anybody tell me how to do that?

    Hi,
thanks for your answer, but this takes not the effect i want.
With the funktion "Edge Extension" the image will only be zoomed in/out.
Perhaps I haven't explained it exactly enough.
I have found a example with google:
    http://pagrimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Screen-shot-2010-04-30-at-9.25.55-PM.png
You can see, there is too much space wich would be filled. So I would crop the image to the area which I'm interessted. After I have croped it, I will fill automaticly the edges like I can do after I have generated a panorama.
I want to call the same funktion which is behind the question "Would you like to fill in the edges of your panorama?”.
I hope my request could be solved.
    thanks and greets

  • I have a problem when cropping 8 but tiff files in elements 12. Once area is selected and I crop the image it disappears. The file no. sill shows but the image is not viewable. I have saved the file from that point and tries reopening but the image isn't

Has anyone experienced this before ? I have previously been able to crop images with no problem. Recently when I open an image and crop it and confirm the action the image 'disappears' If I save and go to reopen the file is there but it will be  zero meg in size.

    Hi,
    Try resetting the crop tool.
To the right of the tool option bar, click on the little horizontal lines and you should see reset tool option.
    Good luck

  • Color is cropping the image

I'm grading a short now, and I've stumbled across a problem I've never seen before.
Some of the footage is 720p while most of it is 1080p. No problem, I've done that before.
In one particular clip, I can see the whole image in the Geometry room, but the video viewer and output to monitor is being cut off or cropped. See linked images.

I have tried to go back to FCP and reset the basic motion, exported XML and reconformed in Color. Nothing changed.

Hey, sorry for not getting back to this thread. I found a solution for it.
But first things first. Actually, you're wrong. The red frame shows MORE than what you see in the viewer in the second image. You see her hand being cut off, there's no bag of peanuts in the frame? THAT was the problem. The video image did not show up right in the viewer nor output to monitor, and while panning around in the geometry room, I couldn't see more of the image like it's supposed to behave.
The clip had a 150% scale in the FCP timeline, but I didn't think that would affect anything - obviously it did.
    The solution was to
    - get into the timeline in FCP and bake the clip to a new file and replace with the new one.
I tried to export xml and reconform with the new clip with no go. So I brute forced it by..
    - deleting the clip again
    - export xml
    - reconform in color
    - back in FCP, add the baked clip again
    - export xml and reconform
and that fixed the problem. Boy what a strange thing to do, but hey, it worked out in the end.

  • Does CS5 Merge to HDR crop the images during auto-align?

    Hi,
I am trying to use Merged HDR photos to construct a panoramic view in Autodesk Stitcher.  When I use Photoshop Merge to HDR, the stitcher program gives an error that it is unable to stitch as the file sizes are different. When I use Photomatix Pro 4.1 to create HDR, there is an option to turn off cropping. This solves the problem with Stitcher.  If Photoshop crops during Merge to HDR, is there an option to turrn it off?
    Thanks,
    Joe

I don't know if it crops, but it does change the pixel dimensions (size) depending on how out of alignment your images are if you use auto align.
You can turn that off in the HDR Pro open dialog:

  • Can I crop an image then apply the Ken Burns effect?

I shot a panoramic still with the iOS6 on my iPhone 4S.  I guess because I didn't hold it steady there are white boundries on the top and bottom.  I would like to crop these pieces out and then apply the Ken Burns effect.

Crop the image in Preview or iPhoto.

  • I only see the image outline sometimes instead of the "dynamic graphics preview"?

I'm sure everyone who uses InDesign for any amount of time is aware of something I just recently found out is called the "dynamic graphics preview." [See Fig. 2, below]
The dynamic graphics preview is the whole image you temporarily see when your trying to crop, or position an image within a frame. It's the part of the image that falls outside of the frame. The parts of the image that fall outside of the image are temporarily "seen" transparently (faded), to indicate that those areas are not within the viewable area of the frame. You usually see this when you are trying to crop the image with the direct selection tool, after you click and hold on the image for a few seconds with the direct selection tool. The temporary transparent preview goes away once you decide on the position and let go of the mouse click.
So my issue is: when I click and hold, on certain images with the direct selection tool (white arrow) the dynamic graphics preview doesn't show up? All I see is the outline of the path of the image, with NO PREVIEW, or the outline of the shape (usually a rectangle), with NO PREVIEW.
For instance there was this one situation at work (where I work on catalogs) where the same image was copied six times, in order to make swatches, and when I clicked and held on those particular images the dynamic graphics preview would show, but not on the other images, even though they're the same image!? Meaning, the same exact image file, just copied six times.
So why can I see the temporary transparent preview for certain instances of the same image but not for others?
Has anyone else ever experienced this?
Again any answers are completely appreciated.

    – Nope. Tried that.
    – It happens in other files as well. The situation is similar also, where one copy of the same file will show the dynamic graphic preview but the other copies will not.
    – Yes, even after restart, it persists. It occured again today in fact.
    – Yes. Even after I login in with a different account, I get the same issue. Others in my office have had the same issue. Can it be server related? Or permisions related? I don't see how that can be when it's the same exact file, and on one copy it works but on the others it doesn't.
    ..Makes no sense at all.
By the way this is all happening on CS 5.5 - version 7.5.2 [Fig. 3].
NOTE: The images above [Fig. 1-2] show CS 3 screen shots because they were made from my computer at home, which as far as I know don't have the same problem with the dynamic graphics preview (DGP). Those images are only there to help illustrate what the DGP is. All the issues with the DGP are occuring in CS 5.5.

  • How do I crop an image in Flash?

I've been croping my pictures to use in my flash in photoshop but I want to crop the pictures so they fit the size of my page in flash. Does anyone know how to crop pictures in flash?

There is no tool to crop the image, you can make an mask on it but still the whole image resides within the stage. May be you can break apart and remove the unwanted sides, but not for practice.
